This is the triumph rocket 3 gt; the most torquey
production motorcycle in the world! 221 newton 00:00:18

way from nothing, so this is one hell of a muscle 00:00:26
bike, and we're going to give it a complete review

but starting out, the gt's difference between
the gt and the r is basically this has forward 00:00:36
controls, slightly different bars a very slightly
lower seat and it's about three kilos heavier than 00:00:43
the R, but for taller guys, we'll go into that
in a minute, but that makes a much better riding 00:00:50

So the rocket 3 costs 21 300 pounds in this
two-tone color, we really like this color, 00:01:41
I think it's slightly less in black but
we'll put the price over the screen now 00:01:45
so it's up to you what color you think is best but
this color looks pretty nice the, rocket 3 has 165 00:01:53
horsepower at 6000 rpm but obviously the power
band is huge, so from no revs to high revs this 00:02:03
is one very very swift motorcycle and it actually
holds the world record i still think it holds it, 00:02:09
of nought to 60 in 2.73 seconds um but
although it's a very fast motorcycle 00:02:16
it also is a very gentlemanly motorcycle if
you want to ride normally so you've got your 00:02:22
different modes, so in rain mode you can
ride along quite normally and quite easily 00:02:28
and it's not a handful at all, so you've got a
2458cc inline 3 engine on this bike and as you all 00:02:38
know it's the highest torque motorcycle production
motorcycle in the world and what an incredible 00:02:45
thing to say i've got the highest torque bike in
the world, now a lot of people said on our triumph 00:02:51
rocket 3r video which we did last year, we'll
leave a link to that in the description, a lot of 00:02:57
people said about the boss hog motorcycle, i think
that's what it's called now that has a 6.3 liter 00:03:04
v8 from the chevrolet but they don't really
count as a production bike now this is a 00:03:09
production bike that's mass-produced so
that's why this is the highest torque00:03:13

now it's an incredible sounding motorcycle
obviously it's not overly loud because it's 00:03:29
got to meet the regulations for exhaust but it
does sound very good and you can hear it coming 00:03:34
from a couple of streets away so people are going
to hear you turning up wherever you're going and 00:03:39
it does make a beautiful sound and it's certainly
going to make an impression on whoever you turn 00:03:45
up to see. on the overrun you've got quite a
nice little burbly pops so when you shut off00:03:54
which sounds really nice um hopefully
we've got a clip of that we'll put that in00:04:07
now understanding this motorcycle takes a little
bit of time initially you feel perhaps a little 00:04:17
bit nervous of all that power and all that torque,
it's a big heavy bike, it's long we love long 00:04:22
bikes there needs to be more long wheelbase
bikes out there but with this riding position 00:04:27
it's very comfortable and i feel really nice on
it um but it's like you've got to get to know her 00:04:34
you've got to sort of date her you've
got to take her out you've got to 00:04:38
gradually get to know what she's like she's got
to get to know you and the more you get to know it 00:04:43
after a while you'll be able to become at one
with the bike and then you can really give it 00:04:48
a good ride and it's fabulous when
you do that so it does take some time 00:04:53
you know a few days few weeks but gradually
as you get to know this bike you can exploit 00:04:59
all that torqye and all that power in the right
conditions and when you do there's nothing like 00:05:04
it it really is tremendously fast but tremendously
fun and rewarding so it's a wonderful motorcycle00:05:18
so you've got adjustable suspension as you'd
expect on a bike like this so you can adjust it 00:05:23
to your needs your weight and you've got cornering
ABS on this bike as well you've got a torque 00:05:29
assist clutch on this bike which you certainly
need with 221 newtons of torque it just makes it 00:05:36
a little bit easier to pull in and you've got a
helical cut gearbox which is specially designed 00:05:42
to handle all that torque and power you've got
a very light clutch on this and the gears go in 00:05:47
up and down perfectly beautifully and they handle
all that torque so they've been specially made to 00:05:53
handle that extra torque that this bike puts out
um so yeah lovely gearbox on this now the riding 00:05:59
position on this gt with the forward controls is
perfect it really is nice it's very comfortable 00:06:07
i'm six foot three i've got about a 33 inside leg
and it's a spot on riding position you can undo 00:06:15
a couple of bolts on the foot pegs and move them
forward or back a little bit so it's adjustable, 00:06:23
the bars are lovely and wide so the riding
position is really good indeed uh the mirrors are 00:06:28
good i can see 90 95 percent of the road behind
which is unusual because normally i can see about 00:06:35
five to ten percent of the road behind so these
are great because the bars are so wide and bar 00:06:39
end mirrors are very good for that now riding
with a passenger on the back is perfectly good 00:06:46
i'd say the honda gold wing you feel the passenger
less than you do on this or anything else to be 00:06:52
honest but um it's perfectly good it's perfectly
fine um it just feels perhaps a little bit more 00:06:58
top heavy when you've got someone sitting behind
you but that's the same with any bike now from 00:07:03
a passenger's point of view if you're sitting on
the back it's quite nice and comfortable you feel 00:07:08
very secure with this backrest so if you've got
a person who's a little bit scared they're not 00:07:14
going to be that scared having that on the back
and you don't want to come off of all that torque 00:07:19
the seat's slightly firmer than
the front seat i think so it's 00:07:22
not really a seat you'd want to be on for a
really long journey but it's perfectly comfortable 00:07:28
for most normal journeys now the rake on this is
27.9 degrees that's the angle of the headstock the 00:07:36
steering bit and the trail is 134.9 millimeters
but triumph cleverly have kicked out the forks 00:07:44
so they look like they're say 30 to 32 degrees
or something i don't know what the angle is 00:07:51
so that's a clever way of sort
of disguising a steeper rake 00:07:55
and like all triumphs this bike handles extremely
well and it's a very sharp handling bike 00:08:03
all triumphs are like that this has a less
rake than all the other triumphs but even so 00:08:08
it still makes it a very sharp handling
motorcycle not too sharp so if it had a 00:08:15
30 degree rake or a 32.7 like the bmw r18 it
would make it more of a cruiser more laid back 00:08:24
more stable perhaps in the corners
and less likely to want to turn 00:08:28
but this being a big heavy bike you think it's
going to be a handful to turn but it's not at all 00:08:33
it handles much more like a sport bike so
if you're that kind of rider you're going 00:08:37
to get a lot out of this bike not only the
power on the torque but the handling as well00:08:47
the seat height is 750 millimeters and
if i sit on it i'm about six foot one 00:08:54
six foot two and it feels very nice and
roomy obviously that's to do the forward 00:08:59
controls and the wheelbase as well but the seat
height is quite nice this has got four modes 00:09:06
which you just go through with the
little buttons on the left handlebar here 00:09:11
i would recommend when you first buy this bike
to put it in rain even if it's not raining 00:09:15
that just gives you a little bit less delivery of
all that torque and power numbs down the throttle 00:09:21
control a little bit and obviously the traction
control will be at its maximum um once you get 00:09:27
through the modes the road the sport and the rider
configurable mode in sport it's monstrously fast 00:09:36
but it's not dangerously fast i mean yes
you have to give it a lot of respect and the 00:09:40
throttle response will be a lot more um but
they've done it in such a way that it doesn't 00:09:46
sort of snap your neck off so it still delivers it
in a gentlemanly way even though it's an extremely 00:09:53
fast and very rapid motorcycle the rocket 3 gt
weighs 294 kilograms and for what a bike it is 00:10:03
and how massive it is and the size of the engine
it's actually not very heavy um if you compare 00:10:10
that to the honda gold wing for example that's
365 kilograms so a lot heavier than this and 00:10:18
this doesn't feel too heavy either it's quite
easily controllable obviously it does feel heavy 00:10:24
but for what it is you'd expect it to feel a lot
heavier than it actually is are these racehorses 00:10:31
all right that's very pretty oops sorry i won't
start it now it's freezing today it's five degrees 00:10:38
and you've got a little temperature thing on the
dash here you've got a little button on the left 00:10:43
and you've got heated grips which is fantastic so
if you've ever ridden in the winter without them 00:10:48
you know that after 20 minutes you can't
move your hands and it's got three levels 00:10:52
hot medium and warm which is great so you can get
it just right for your hands and depending on how 00:10:59
thick your gloves are so that's a very welcome
comfort there's an 18 litre fuel tank on this bike 00:11:05
which looks massive if you're sitting on the bike
it's just massive wide fuel tank and you'll get 00:11:12
official figures 41.45 miles per gallon but
we've been getting 36 but we've been doing a 00:11:20
lot of accelerating stop start and testing
for the bike so that's why we're getting a 00:11:25
bit less but it obviously depends how you ride
as to what miles per gallon figures you'll get 00:11:30
out of it if you're thrashing it everywhere you
probably get 30. if you're going really gently 00:11:35
everywhere you'll probably get nearer to 40.
so it depends how you ride the dials on this 00:11:41
are easy to see it's a modern digital display we
flick through the modes and you can see a little 00:11:48
icon that tells you what mode you're in etcetera
the speedometer is a digital number display could 00:11:56
be a little bit larger be easier to see if it was
the rev counter is digital but it looks like an 00:12:01
analog i prefer analog dials i'd like to see a
couple of analogues a bit more retro perhaps but 00:12:07
it's perfectly fine so you've got a 17-inch front
wheel and a 16 inch rear you've got 240 millimeter 00:12:15
rear tyre now that looks really menacing
from behind it's got a lot of road presence 00:12:21
comparable to that of the harley-davidson fat
boy the big wide fat tyre it's kind of like that 00:12:27
and rear-wise it kind of reminds me of i said
this on the rocket 3r video the fat bob with that 00:12:35
re-offender styling and the way
that they've got the number plate 00:12:39
on this extended bracket round here
it's very similar design to that00:12:53
now up front you've got the twin discs brembo
and a single at the rear the stopping power is 00:13:01
as you would expect very good indeed the
suspension is very good it soaks up the bumps 00:13:06
nicely it's quite a firm ride so on the big bumps
you do feel it but it doesn't unsettle the bike 00:13:12
uh it's actually quite a stable bike to
ride so the more you get to know this bike 00:13:17
the more you fall in love with it because it
is actually very very nice indeed you've got 00:13:21
massively wide tyre at the back tons of
grip especially made tires for this bike 00:13:25
um we've been riding around in the wet and it's
filthy but it hasn't slipped at all so in rain 00:13:31
mode it's very good indeed i haven't spun the
wheel up and i have been opening up quite a bit 00:13:36
so it does work very well and it's a
rewarding and very satisfying motorcycle00:13:51
so you can get the sports panniers for this bike
they're 470 pounds you'd also need the mounting 00:13:56
kit or you can get the highway pack which is
around 1500 pounds which comes with some other 00:14:02
accessories as well but they're really easy to
take off you just undo the key pull the front 00:14:06
bit out and then you lift it up it's so easy
to do which is really nice and handy now the 00:14:12
advantage of having panniers like this that are
so easy to take on and off is that when you get 00:14:17
somewhere with your luggage you can just pull
them off take them with you take them inside if 00:14:22
you're going to see someone and it's much easier
than having panniers that are just locked on 00:14:28
and it's a lot better looks wise because say
you're going somewhere and you don't need to take 00:14:32
a lot of stuff you could say well i'm not going
to have the panniers on today and it looks a lot 00:14:37
more aesthetically pleasing so it's a very good
design in that case i've got this little screen 00:14:43
on the gt the r version doesn't have it above
200 miles an hour it's very good you can feel 00:14:50
the wind going over you quite well but it doesn't
do a lot really 200 miles an hour yeah so you've 00:14:57
got ten thousand miles service intervals on the
rocket three or sixteen thousand kilometers um 00:15:03
this bike also comes with cruise control and it's
got hill hold it's called so if you're on a hill 00:15:10
like he'll start it's going to hold the bike for
a couple of seconds while you're doing the clutch 00:15:15
so you don't have to worry about fiddling with the
back brake which is a really useful feature with 00:15:19
such a heavy bike like this you've got a USB
port under the seat like all triumphs they're 00:15:25
always under the seat i think it'd be better if
it was up near the headstock like the harleys 00:15:30
um it's a bit easier to access and it would make
more practical sense but at least you've got it 00:15:36
there's many optional extras that you can get
for this bike there's a triumph assist clutch 00:15:41
which effectively makes it clutchless so you can
shift without putting the clutch in and there's 00:15:47
also a gopro control system which you can opt for
we haven't used that i'm not sure if this bike 00:15:52
in particular has it but i believe that will give
you integrated control so you can control a gopro 00:15:58
from your handlebars that's really handy if
you're filming like us that would be a really 00:16:03
handy feature now the styling of this bike as
you can see is extremely beautiful you've got 00:16:10
your drive shaft on the left hand side which looks
really cool and it gives it a much more minimalist 00:16:17
look on the other side because you haven't got
anything coming out and the overall looks of the 00:16:22
bike are incredible it's huge it's got a lot of
road presence and that engine looks incredible 00:16:29
and it's just a really really well styled bike
i think it's a lot more better looking than the 00:16:36
previous model of the rocket 3 i think they
look a little bit dated now but this looks 00:16:42
very futuristic and very very cool indeed. the
wheelbase on this bike is 1607 millimeters that's 00:16:53
a bit longer than the harley-davidson touring
bikes not quite as long as the honda gold wing and 00:16:59
not as long as the bmw r18, the advantage on this
bike compared to say the honda gold wing and the 00:17:06
r18 is that you don't have the engine sticking out
so you can get your feet forwards which is nice 00:17:11
otherwise they're going to be here the r
version your feet are about here as i said 00:17:16
before being taller it's nice to get your feet
stretched out so this is a very well engineered 00:17:24
and designed motorcycle and as i said before
the more more you ride it the more you love it00:17:44
now another thing i noticed with the rocket
3 even from a passenger's perspective is 00:17:51
how obviously noticeable the torque is and
when you're going up a hill even if you're in 00:17:57
low revs it's just like the hill doesn't exist
you can just pull up it like a absolute rhinoceros 00:18:04
and there is no other bike that
does it as well as the rocket three00:18:15
the side stand on the triumph rocket is really
good um unlike the harleys when you put this down 00:18:23
you know it's in and it doesn't rock
about but when you put a harley stand down 00:18:27
it's like going forwards three inches going
back and you're like am i going to drop the bike 00:18:32
but you don't have to worry about that with this
bike the rocket 3 is a bike that it grows on you 00:18:38
more and more the more you ride it and we really
really enjoyed the rocket 3 gt perhaps a bit more 00:18:44
than we enjoyed the rocket 3r back in the summer
and also a lot of people say about the engine 00:18:51
getting hot on the rocket 3 we noticed that a lot
in the summer on the rocket 3r and it's staying 00:18:57
hot for a while but as it's a freezing cold
day today we didn't really notice that being a 00:19:03
problem on the rocket 3 and as we said in the last
video of the other rocket 3r is that in the cold 00:19:11
it's really nice to keep you warm and we've been
holding our hands on the engine to warm them up so 00:19:16
that's not been a bad problem on the day like this
overall we really really like this bike i think 00:19:23
if we rode it in december last year we probably
would have put it in our top five bikes of 2020 00:19:31
we didn't quite get enough time to get used
to the rocket 3r when we rode it in the summer 00:19:37
it's a bike that you need some time on to get used
to and really exploit the power and the torque but 00:19:44
once you do it really is a rewarding bike and the
forward controls on the gt is definitely something 00:19:51
that persuaded this bike made it a little bit
better to us being tall people than the rocket 3r, 00:19:59
