life uh living with type video so I'm

going to be showing you my day with an

lc500 hybrid and um what it's like to
00:00:50
live with usability driving quality so

I'm going to be taking the lc500 hybrid
00:00:55
that I have up to London I'll tell you
00:00:57
more about the car and more about the
00:00:58
plan later but before I get into the car

there are two things I want to show you

firstly but a bit random and not car

related this Lexus showroom has the most

stylish and comfortable seats I've ever

seen in any car dealership the second

thing is this solar flare orange RCF 300

that's currently for sale what an

incredible color anyway let's get back

to the lc500
00:01:20
hybrid you can find a direct link to the

sure here are some key features about

the car the lc500 hybrid is powered by

agile cornering and a decreased turning

Circle which will be demonstrated later

car it's quite a basic key only three

buttons on the back but it's got an

absolutely lovely design and the build

quality feels absolutely great to open

the door simply press the button and the

handles stick

out really nice feature is that they

have uh the Lexus

sign the interior itself I think is a

massive step up Lexus Interiors have

been questionable in the past but I have

to say this is actually a really really

um nicely upholstered um well thought
00:02:28
out interior space so really nice
00:02:30
feature to access the rear compartment
00:02:31
pull the seats forward and they
00:02:33
automatically
00:02:35
move makes very easy entry and exiting
00:02:39
um the space in the rear as you can see
00:02:41
up um upholstered alcantar and leather
00:02:43
as this is the uh the Sport Plus
00:02:45
version no real room whatsoever um it's
00:02:49
probably going to be using the back
00:02:51
probably really for its intended purpose

uh which is just extra storage

essentially but what I'm going to do is

i' one of my friends is helping me film

this video so I'm going to ask we're

good thing the car is really easy to get

the door really briefly and show you the

controls for the seats oh if the door

doesn't slide back so on the side we

have um these control back and forward

tilt motion that's about it this one is
00:04:21
to move the seat forward or to move the
00:04:23
seat backward and then it's got a little
00:04:25
one on the side uh rest of the Interior

Space really really nice like I said

before this is the sport plus mod

version so we got leather up the top
00:04:33
Alcantara this I think what I imagine

could be aluminium handle either way I

really love the way it's fashioned seat

memory controls down here uh usual

things so we've got um electric windows
00:04:45
lock unlock and um controls for the
00:04:49
electric mirrors as well small storage

space at the bottom of the door and

actually have to say a really really
00:04:55
nice carbon fiber seal area I think we
00:04:59
we're almost ready to start off our
00:05:01
journey so foot on the brake and there's
00:05:04
a little power on button here everything
00:05:06
gets into
00:05:08
gear and believe it or not because this
00:05:10
is a a 3 and2 l V6 hybrid the car is
00:05:13
actually on now which is pretty crazy um
00:05:15
what's my driving position like it's not
00:05:17
too
00:05:18
bad I need to adjust the mirrors so what
00:05:22
I have to do is press right and then I
00:05:24
can just adjust the mirrors
00:05:27
accordingly okay
00:05:30
got like that and then simply have to
00:05:33
press left for the left one obviously
00:05:35
and I can just adjust that one too um I
00:05:39
imagine that button is for autoc closing
00:05:41
let's just test it

out so that function is going to come in

pretty handy later little functions here

me that's with the fuel cap for the boot

and for the HUD I probably won't be
00:05:54
using that because for some reason I get
00:05:56
really re nauseated when using the hood

uh when using the HUD nice controls the

thing I like about this it's inspired

from the LFA so the center dial actually

move back when you move the car into
00:06:06
sport mode which you can do using the
00:06:09
little dial over to the side and imagine
00:06:11
traction controlled um over on this side

nice big screen which is controlled

through all the center column nicely

upholstered gear stick here for the
00:06:20
10-speed automatic gearbox it's one of
00:06:22
the first of its kind I imagine this the
00:06:25
satav is probably pretty easy to set up

but just for convenience's sake I'm
00:06:29
actually going to use ways on my phone

cuz I just think that'll be easier so

moving to the review mirror I actually
00:06:36
personally love this R mirror it's
00:06:38
seamless it's sort of um edgeless it's
00:06:40
one of the the only ones that's truly
00:06:42
edgeless I imagine it's Auto dimming as
00:06:44
well just make sure that we have the
00:06:45
best visibility possible the actual wind
00:06:47
screen itself is quite narrow I'd say
00:06:51
visibility is quite good but it the the
00:06:53
top um section the panel over here runs
00:06:56
down quite fast so I feel that is sort

of in the way a bit so one other thing

I've just realized is at the moment my

view this is my view it's a little bit

sort of muted I can't really see the top

of the display panel I was just looking

around to see and you adjust the um

steering column using this little button

over here electrically adjustable

forward backwards up and down so

actually exceptionally easy to adjust

Forward a little bit perfect we're

finally ready to go so um what I'm going

to do now is put the car into drive um

so simply just turn over to the right

and then it's a neutral I can put it up

for reverse or down into drive believe

it or not the car is actually on already
00:07:37
um it's amazingly silent because it's a
00:07:39
hybrid so into to drive simply just
00:07:41
release it's got a little creep function
00:07:44
and then there we go silently

away okay so let me introduce the actual

concept behind today what we're actually
00:07:54
going to do how am I going to test this
00:07:56
car in a real world setting you may not
00:07:59
be English watching this video in which

case I need to do a bit of explaining
00:08:03
now in the UK we have a food stuff it's
00:08:06
called a scotch egg so essentially
00:08:07
imagine a boiled egg and then you get
00:08:09
meat from like that's inside of a
00:08:11
sausage normally you put it around the
00:08:13
egg you put breadcrumbs around that
00:08:15
which probably has some sort of egg yolk
00:08:17
to stick it together and then you
00:08:19
probably bake it or or or something like
00:08:22
that and it's absolutely delicious now
00:08:25
you can buy these in supermarkets
00:08:26
they're very easily attainable but
00:08:28
they're dry and
00:08:29
disgusting so there's a place in London
00:08:32
which you may have heard of called
00:08:33
fortam and Mason they're very famous
00:08:35
they've been going since about the 18th
00:08:37
century and they're probably most
00:08:38
notable for providing the queen with all
00:08:41
of her um weekly shopping so what I'm
00:08:45
doing today is I'm taking the lc500
00:08:47
hybrid up to London which is about 30 m
00:08:49
or around maybe an hour from where we
00:08:51
are now lots of different Road types
00:08:53
lots of different driving conditions and
00:08:56
on The Voyage to get the most delicious
00:08:58
scotch sh I can find I'm going to put
00:09:01
the car through its
00:09:02

Paces after leaving the dealership we

very briefly drove along some country
00:09:08
roads before joining the motorway I'll
00:09:11
go into more detail about how the lc500
00:09:13
hybrid handles this environment later in
00:09:15
the

video so now we're doing some Motorway

driving been on here for about 10
00:09:29
minutes now so obviously don't have a
00:09:31
really in-depth view of it we're in
00:09:33
Comfort mode so far once again it's
00:09:35
exactly the same as it was on the
00:09:37
Country Roads it feels extremely smooth
00:09:40
um it's handling the speed very very
00:09:42
well altogether this is just a very
00:09:44
comfortable car I mean this is built to
00:09:46
be a a sporty luxurious GT and from what
00:09:49
I can see of course I haven't really put
00:09:51
it through its Paces on some proper
00:09:52
roads but on the Country Roads we on
00:09:55
back there and now on the motorway here
00:09:57
it's just it fits its role so perfectly
00:09:59
like I said the seat's comfortable we're
00:10:01
cruising comfortably at you know the
00:10:04
speed limit the car feels very
00:10:06
comfortable at the speed limit uh
00:10:07
there's a little trailer up ahead so
00:10:09
what I'm going to do is I'll give you an
00:10:10
example of how well this car overtakes
00:10:12
so we're just in Comfort
00:10:15
mode I need to wait obviously for the
00:10:17
traffic to die down on my right side so
00:10:18
I can get past but I'll show you the
00:10:20
ease at which this car goes through so
00:10:23
we're going to indicate and then check
00:10:25
so we're in
00:10:27
Comfort just a little little probably
00:10:29
about I don't know 50% throttle maybe
00:10:32
just to get the car going and then look
00:10:34
easy straight
00:10:37
past available power when you need it so

the two things I found most impressive
00:10:42
about this so far one is the sound

insulating I'm not sure if you can tell

quite how quiet it is in here but I mean
00:10:49
we're Motorway driving it's quite a big
00:10:51
engine up up front we're going at the
00:10:53
speed limit and it's exceptionally quiet
00:10:57
really really really is quiet there's
00:10:58
nothing else going on and the second
00:11:00
thing to add to that is because this is
00:11:01
a hybrid powertrain the car is very very
00:11:04
quiet until you put your foot down so
00:11:06
it's a very relaxed
00:11:09

experience as our journey progresses

when we move closer and closer into
00:11:22
London we get more confined in our space
00:11:25
and it's given me a good opportunity to
00:11:27
test out the visibility so so far what I
00:11:29
can conclude is that the mirrors the
00:11:32
exterior mirrors being quite large mean
00:11:35
that I can position the car quite easily
00:11:37
I can I feel like I can see where the
00:11:39
car is in the lane I can see where the
00:11:41
additional vehicles are and on the edge
00:11:43
there are some proximity sensors as well
00:11:46
uh which is really useful the main
00:11:48
mirror in the center the rearview mirror
00:11:51
uh is quite large it's Auto
00:11:53
dimming uh so generally despite this top
00:11:57
bit being quite sort of low
00:11:59
the exterior visibility of the car I
00:12:01
would say is pretty good you feel like
00:12:02
you can uh place the car in lane very
00:12:05

easily so we've reached greater London
00:12:16
if you are unfamiliar with the uh area

sort of just surrounding Central London
00:12:23
unsurprisingly um now we're getting into
00:12:25
real City driving so we've even got some
00:12:27
sort of speed bumps to contend with as
00:12:28
well
00:12:29
which the car is actually dealing with
00:12:31
really
00:12:36
well so as I was saying before it has a
00:12:38
very very smooth ride and that's most
00:12:41
notable over these speed bumps it feels
00:12:43
very very
00:12:44
relaxed not jarring at
00:12:50
all after spending some time admiring
00:12:52
the car's reflection we headed down the
00:12:54
home of the UK Supercar scene the
00:12:55
legendary SLO Street and unsurprisingly
00:12:58
we came across some car spotters as we
00:13:00
slowly drove past they simply had to
00:13:02
tear themselves away from the aventor SV
00:13:04
they were photographing and instead get
00:13:06
the
00:13:08
Lexus right we finally made it into
00:13:10
Central London we've just gone past
00:13:12
Harolds weren't exactly a lot of people
00:13:14
there so now we're going to head to uh
00:13:16
St James's Square when we can test the
00:13:18
parking ability of the lc500 hybrid and
00:13:21
also we can finally go and get the
00:13:23
delicious treats I was talking about
00:13:25
earlier in the video um couple of people
00:13:27
having a little look it's pretty
00:13:28
interesting to see their reactions I
00:13:30
found to put the wing up you have to be
00:13:31
stationary with your foot on the brake
00:13:33
and then you can manually put the wing
00:13:35
up personally I think it looks really
00:13:37
really really good with the wing up on
00:13:38
SLO Street there are lots of buildings
00:13:40
with glass uh faes and Frontiers and
00:13:42
things and the reflection of the car
00:13:44
going across the window is amazing it
00:13:47
looks so futuristic it it looks like a
00:13:49
concept car it sort of doesn't look like
00:13:51
a normal Road car so now we can also
00:13:53
test the car's start stop sort of
00:13:56
capability um start stop driving as as
00:13:58
well now we're driving sort of into
00:14:01
Mayfair Direction um lots of stopping
00:14:04
starting stopping starting good thing
00:14:07
about the gearbox it's nice and smooth
00:14:09
so just thought you feel sort of
00:14:10
seamlessly uh transitioned through the
00:14:13
gears despite the fact that London has
00:14:15
notoriously terrible
00:14:17
roads so you hear that even my glamorous
00:14:20
assistant is comfortable despite
00:14:23
notoriously terrible roads in London the
00:14:25
the car has a creep function like most
00:14:27
um automatic cars so you release the
00:14:30
brake the car creeps forward very very
00:14:32
slowly then you can very easily engage
00:14:35
the uh accelerator
00:14:37
pedal um and more it's a very it's not a
00:14:40
jerky type of acceleration so it's you
00:14:42
don't feel it in sort of steps it's very
00:14:44
very smooth uh which makes this s this
00:14:46
sort of um communicating communication
00:14:49
through traffic very easy the brake
00:14:51
itself there is a regenerative braking
00:14:53
function um I think you can sort of feel
00:14:55
that a bit which is why depressing it
00:14:58
can feel a little bit but there's a bit
00:14:59
more different type of resistance than
00:15:01
in other cars that I felt but um it's
00:15:03
very very smooth just as the accelerator
00:15:06
you don't have to depress that harshly
00:15:08
really it's sort of a very smooth
00:15:12
understandable

reaction right so the next challenge is

to park this thing I finally found a

space see how easy it is to

park we do have a reversing

camera quite close on that side I have

parked so the the wing mirar is actually

change uh when the car's going into

reverse and stuff which is a really

useful function right so we just parked

the car as you saw um it was made very

easy for two main factors first of all
00:16:55
the folding Wing mirrors they didn't
00:16:57
just fold in but they actually folded
00:16:58
down so I had better visibility of
00:17:01
Curves of lines different things like
00:17:02
that the second thing was the large
00:17:05
reversing camera screen so of course the
00:17:07
screen doesn't actually change but one
00:17:08
of the the good feature is that the
00:17:10
reversing camera itself fills up the
00:17:12
entire screen with um little lines that
00:17:14
Bend round I understand it's a common
00:17:16
feature but I found it very very useful
00:17:19
um anyway so now parked up we're both
00:17:21
starving cuz it's lunchtime as you can
00:17:23
see by everyone queuing up for their
00:17:24
lunch and we're heading over to Portland
00:17:26
Mason to grab the tasty treats I told

hand this actually makes a good test to

uh see the boot space now in the hybrid

there's 172 L of boot space it's not a
00:18:34
huge amount it's actually down because
00:18:36
of the hybrid drive system it's down 20
00:18:38
L on the V8 so if you come in and take a
00:18:41
closer look have a look in inside we've
00:18:44
just got some like generic camera
00:18:45
equipment in here that we had um in the
00:18:48
car obviously this isn't going to take
00:18:50
up much room but I mean you could
00:18:52
probably fit
00:18:53
some um small bags in there if you're
00:18:56
going you can probably fit a small
00:18:58
family shop as well so really it's a
00:19:00
fairly usable
00:19:27
car with our valuable cargo now on board
00:19:30
it was time to head out of London and
00:19:31
back to the relative Tranquility of the
00:19:33
countryside however there were some
00:19:35
important tests still to
00:19:37

undertake basically the entire time
00:19:45
we've been in the car we've been
00:19:46
utilizing Comfort mode but the car does
00:19:48
have multiple Drive modes it has Eco
00:19:50
Comfort Sport and Sport Plus each of
00:19:53
these as with other Drive modes and
00:19:54
other cars they become gradually more
00:19:57
aggressive as you go up in comfort as
00:19:59
we're in now it's a very very relaxed
00:20:01
driving Dynamic there's probably slower
00:20:03
gear changes the steering column is very
00:20:06
soft and smooth and so is the suspension
00:20:08
as you progress through the driving
00:20:09
modes from Eco normal sport to Sport
00:20:12
Plus the car will become more stiff the
00:20:16
suspension will become more rigid uh the
00:20:18
steering feel will become a lot harder
00:20:21
as well and the uh the car will
00:20:24
accelerate faster we can experiment with
00:20:26
these modes a little bit later probably
00:20:27
when we end up hitting more sort of open
00:20:29
road because there's obviously a lot
00:20:30
going on at the moment it's harder to
00:20:32
really embrace it one other thing that I
00:20:34
can mention is that there are three
00:20:36
different ways to change gear in this
00:20:37
car so firstly you can just leave the
00:20:39
car in automatic mode in standard auto
00:20:42
mode you can let the car do all of the
00:20:43
changes itself the 10-speed automatic
00:20:46
gearbox is very very smooth you can kind
00:20:48
of tell when it's changing gear but it's
00:20:50
not a jerky or jolting sensation you can
00:20:52
also change gear using the paddles
00:20:54
behind the wheel um haven't experimented
00:20:56
with that yet but we will do you can and
00:20:59
you can put the actual Drive selector
00:21:01
centrally into manual mode and then sort
00:21:04
of sequentially push down for down a
00:21:06
gear will push up for up I think we
00:21:07
should also experience that later in the
00:21:09

so now we're on the motorway I think

it's time to test out how responsive and
00:21:35
Slick the manual shifting capabilities
00:21:37
of this car are so first of all we're
00:21:39
going to shift down using the paddles
00:21:40
first of all I have to say the paddles
00:21:42
are really nice I imagine they're M from
00:21:44
aluminium or something they feel very
00:21:45
smooth and they're quite large as well
00:21:48
you if you're holding the top at sort of
00:21:49
the 10 and two position or the bottom of
00:21:51
the steering wheel you'll still be able
00:21:53
to um access them so if we move down
00:21:56
it's pretty much instantaneous if you
00:21:58
look at the number on the dash it
00:22:00
changes over very very
00:22:02
quickly and it just takes
00:22:04
over going back into uh auto mode it's
00:22:08
not a particularly hot day the uh Thum
00:22:10
outside saying it's about 24° for some
00:22:13
reason this car it seems to be like a
00:22:16
heat sink it gets so incredibly hot in
00:22:18
here with the windows up but there's a
00:22:20
really really good airon system where
00:22:22
the vents have quite uh wide uh
00:22:24
divisions between each slap um and it's
00:22:27
literally ice it's on low at the moment
00:22:29
so there's uh one in the middle sort of
00:22:32
on the center Center column there's one
00:22:34
over here for me and then there's two on
00:22:36
the passenger side uh they seem to be
00:22:39
pretty effective so I mean cooling isn't a
00:22:42
problem whatsoever even on like a a
00:22:44
rarely a fairly sort of mild day for the
00:22:47
UK um in sort of stopt traffic on a main
00:22:50
Motorway so as well as adjusting the air
00:22:52
conditioning which is done on the
00:22:53
controls along here which is actually
00:22:55
fairly easy to use you may also want to
00:22:58
change the settings on the main display
00:23:00
uh you know to change radio station or
00:23:02
to change the direction of travel you
00:23:04
know etc etc this can all be done on the
00:23:06
main um touch interface down here if you
00:23:10
have bottles and different things it can
00:23:11
be quite difficult to access um and
00:23:14
because it's it's quite an independ
00:23:16
individual system not many have a system
00:23:19
that's quite like that it takes a bit of
00:23:21
getting used to I mean this is obviously
00:23:23
the first day I've actually had time
00:23:24
with the car and you know having to take
00:23:28
my eyes off the screen for quite a while
00:23:30
to navigate to where I want to using the
00:23:32
touchpad is a little bit distracting in
00:23:35
my opinion and probably take a bit of
00:23:37
time getting used to of course you can
00:23:39
use the direct um select buttons ahead
00:23:41
so I can just press that and it goes
00:23:43
straight to radio press that it goes
00:23:45
straight to
00:23:46
Media um or I can go to map for example
00:23:49
so I mean that isn't too bad that's
00:23:51
quite easy in itself I mean any system
00:23:53
can be quite difficult to get get to use

to if if you're like in a brand new car

that you have no idea of how to use

lc500 hybrid what are three main things

I can say about it well the first is

that it's like with the rx450 hybrid I

drove a few months ago it's riding is

exceptionally smooth it's very very easy

to drive I've actually had a really

really great time in it the second point

I want to raise is that the powertrain

is very subtle but it has power when you

need it so we're just cruising around

right now at speed limit and it's very

easy to to sort of to do that but if I

need to maneuver into a different lane

or if I need to make an overtake the car

has the punch to be able to provide that

in a very smooth effective manner but

the power doesn't feel overwhelming so

once again that ties into the first

point of this being very easy to drive

is built I love the style of everything

amount of looks we've got in London

paint coming out look at it's beautiful

the second is that this actually has a

carbon fiber roof because this is the

sport version I imagine that does

actively help to decrease a car's center

of gravity but it also looks great so in

another way the weight is kept down in

this car other than the carbon roof is

that a lot of carbon fiber is used so

that you've got a lot of carbon fiber

here in it sort of raw form it feels

pretty nice it's not just a panel bolted

on but um it means that the doors are

actually pretty easy to open and close

and I like the um the mechanism on them

that you can really snap it into place

quite easily and they're not hard to
