JB, you're out, huh?
00:02:11
I'm in [music] Chicago. I'll be back
00:02:13
tomorrow. I'll call you then.
00:02:17
JB.
00:02:19
I love you.

PREDICTED
00:03:24
COMMENTS SAID HE'S HIDING THE TRUTH. WE
00:03:27
GOT TO KNOW THE TRUTH.
00:03:28
>> ALL RIGHT. LOOK, I'll take questions
00:03:29
from one of you. Do
00:03:30
>> the story says that the presumed murder
00:03:32
weapon used on Angie Hart was found in
00:03:33
Katherine White's bag?
00:03:34
>> Yeah, that's right.
00:03:35
>> How about the bag of cocaine? Did Miss
00:03:37
White get it here in Chicago?
00:03:39
>> Well, that hasn't been determined yet.
00:03:40
>> Was she a dope addict?
00:03:41
>> No.
00:03:42
>> How was Miss White related to Angie?
00:03:44
>> No idea. I'd like to know the answer to
00:03:46
that myself.
00:03:47
>> Did Miss White kill Angie?
00:03:49
>> That hasn't been determined. It's still
00:03:52
under investigation. The investigation
00:03:54
is ongoing now. That'll be all.
00:03:57
like to know.
00:04:19
He
00:04:23
Heat.
00:05:05
Heat. Heat.
00:05:14
Heat. Heat.
00:06:31
Who the hell are you?
00:06:34
JB Harold, huh? Ted Rosen, we're going
00:06:37
to be working together on this.
00:06:40
>> Just the two of us.
00:06:42
>> Hey, look. We have over 30 murder
00:06:43
investigations a week. You think we
00:06:45
could spare caps for this?
00:06:49
Yeah, even a case like this.
00:06:53
Now, uh
00:06:55
I assume you've seen this before.
00:06:59
It's the gun your friend was holding.
00:07:02
Four bullets left in the cylinder. No
00:07:03
fingerprints except for hers.
00:07:08
These are the bullets we took from the
00:07:09
victim's bodies.
00:07:11
>> Do they match the gun?
00:07:12
>> They match up perfectly.
00:07:16
Hey, look. I hate to tell you this, but
00:07:19
it's too much evidence says your
00:07:21
friend's guilty as hell. I mean, the
00:07:23
blood stained knife, the cocaine, gun
00:07:26
with fingerprints,
00:07:27
>> right?
00:07:29
>> Perfect tabloid material, you know,
00:07:31
beautiful detective, teenager, cocaine.
00:07:38
But look, it's too perfect.
00:07:41
Just doesn't make sense to me. doesn't
00:07:44
add up.
00:07:45
>> What makes you feel that way?
00:07:48
[snorts]
00:07:49
>> Well, let me ask you something, Harold.
00:07:52
Why'd you come here?
00:07:54
Just to dig up dirt on your friend and
00:07:57
expose it to the public.
00:08:00
To get my own hands on the punk that
00:08:02
killed Catherine.
00:08:06
All right.
00:08:41
Your hotel's right up there. You see it?
00:08:44
>> Yeah.
00:08:45
>> And I'll see you around 8 in the office.
00:08:48
>> Okay.
00:08:50
Hey, JB.
00:08:52
Want to get a drink?
00:08:55
Get to know one another. I know a good
00:08:56
bar around here.
00:09:24
Okay, let's get a shot. There you go.
00:09:28
All right, the bar again's right down
00:09:30
there. Let's have a drink to close in
00:09:33
this case.
00:09:55
Yeah, that hits a spot. Uh-huh.
00:09:58
>> So, tell me, Harold, how long you been a
00:10:00
cop? >> Almost 10 years.
00:10:01
>> Yeah. You ever feel like quitting?
00:10:04
>> Not yet.
00:10:06
>> Yeah. I've been a detective uh 6 years.
00:10:10
I don't know. Every now and then I feel
00:10:11
like getting out, but hell, I've been a
00:10:14
cop so long, I guess I can't be anything
00:10:16
else.
00:10:21
>> Good shot.
00:10:22
>> Not so bad.
00:10:23
>> Ever shoot anybody?
00:10:25
>> No. Well, if we get in a shootout, then
00:10:27
he let me handle it.
00:10:30
>> Never missed yet.
00:10:31
>> Dirty, hairy [clears throat] Chicago
00:10:32
style, huh?
00:10:33
>> No, not quite that cool.
00:10:35
>> Yeah, you're right.
00:10:37
>> Hey, shut up.
00:10:40
[snorts]
00:10:41
You ever been in a sting operation?
00:10:43
>> No.
00:10:44
>> Yeah. Yeah. What the hell would they
00:10:46
need a sting operation in a hick town
00:10:48
like Liberty for? Huh?
00:10:54
Yeah. Help yourself.
00:10:58
Hey, what gets you hot, man?
00:11:01
I know a couple of girls, man. They
00:11:03
can't get enough of cops with big guns.
00:11:05
What do you say? Pay them a visit?
00:11:09
>> Hey, man. If women ain't your thing.
00:11:11
>> No, don't jump to conclusions. I came
00:11:14
here to keep you company and to have a
00:11:16
drink. Besides, you've got better things
00:11:18
to do with your time until this case is
00:11:20
set. >> Don't you lecture me.
00:11:27
Some kind of drinker there. It's the
00:11:29
only thing I can show off.
00:11:31
>> Uhhuh.
00:11:33
I got to go. Where you going now? Hey,
00:11:36
come on. Don't be such a punk.
00:11:41
Tell you what, man. You think you're a
00:11:43
drinker? I could drink anybody under the
00:11:45
table. Why don't we make a little bet?
00:11:46
Huh? See who the real man is.
00:11:49
Hey, you win. You can run the
00:11:52
investigation any way you want. How's
00:11:53
that?
00:12:07
[cough]
00:12:09
[laughter]
00:12:10
>> You all right? Stop torturing yourself.
00:12:14
>> Get out of here. [sighs]
00:12:15
>> Don't drink like that. [laughter]
00:12:17
Just want to pass out drunk as a skunk.
00:12:19
It's a waste.
00:12:34
>> Listen.
00:12:35
>> What?
00:12:36
>> If the victim's a woman, [panting]
00:12:39
it's no good.
00:12:40
>> Why?
00:12:41
[sighs]
00:12:42
[gasps]
00:12:43
>> The dream.
00:12:45
This dream. The woman is always the same
00:12:48
woman. She comes,
00:12:50
[panting and sighs]
00:12:51
she makes a pass at me.
00:12:53
>> You're desperate, huh?
00:12:55
>> Huh? What? What are you talking about?
00:12:57
>> For a woman.
00:12:58
>> What? What? That's not true. [panting]
00:13:02
That's a load of crap. You don't know
00:13:03
who you're talking about. It's not true.
00:13:05
>> Have you ever Have I ever What?
00:13:08
>> Shot a woman before?
00:13:10
>> What?
00:13:12
>> I know a cop who did. The guy killed a
00:13:15
suspect by mistake on an investigation.
00:13:17
Since then, he couldn't take a case
00:13:19
involving a woman without causing
00:13:20
trouble.
00:13:35
Three years ago,
00:13:37
I was on narcotics division before
00:13:39
homicide.
00:13:48
We're going after this illegal drug
00:13:50
operation.
00:13:53
After a lot of sweat and work,
00:13:56
we finally located the hideout.
00:14:00
But we needed more evidence to get a
00:14:02
warrant.
00:14:06
So we send in this undercover cop,
00:14:10
this woman,
00:14:14
you know, [sighs]
00:14:16
seems like nothing ever goes right.
00:14:20
All got screwed up.
00:14:24
This
00:14:26
she was in love with this
00:14:29
with this scumbag dealer.
00:14:34
He tried to get away with like a ton of
00:14:37
coke.
00:14:40
[sighs]
00:14:41
I went after him.
00:14:44
I found him.
00:14:47
Ended up in a shootout.
00:14:51
He got hit. He died a couple of days
00:14:53
later.
00:14:55
>> What happened to the woman?
00:14:59
>> She took a bullet in the head.
00:15:02
No [ __ ] way. Chair lift.
00:15:05
>> You're again.
00:15:10
>> Yeah, Harold.
00:15:12
I'm going home. You [snorts] just made
00:15:14
me feel like [ __ ]
00:16:03
>> [bell]
00:16:06
>> Hello.
00:16:07
>> Is this Mr. Harold?
00:16:09
>> Yeah. Speaking.
00:16:10
>> This is Cindy White.
00:16:11
>> Cindy White?
00:16:12
>> Yes. I'm Catherine's cousin. I was
00:16:14
waiting for you to come to Chicago.
00:16:16
>> Waiting.
00:16:17
>> I was hoping you'd be involved in the
00:16:18
investigation. I mean, somebody who can
00:16:21
clear Catherine's name. You think she
00:16:23
was murdered?
00:16:24
>> Of course. Who could think Catherine
00:16:26
would murder Angie? Mr. Harold, I
00:16:29
believe you can find who did it. Please
00:16:31
prove her innocence.
00:16:33
>> Yeah. Anyway, how did you trace me down
00:16:35
here?
00:16:36
>> Well, Mr. Taylor of Liberty Town called
00:16:38
me up and said he wanted me to help.
00:16:40
>> I see.
00:16:41
>> Yeah. And I've got something to tell
00:16:42
you.
00:16:43
>> Which is
00:16:44
>> Well, it's about Catherine. I had lunch
00:16:46
with her a few times while she was here.
00:16:49
I saw her for the first time in six
00:16:50
months and I noticed she acted kind of
00:16:52
weird.
00:16:53
>> What was wrong with her?
00:16:54
>> Well, her behavior. She wasn't herself.
00:16:58
She looked pale and didn't eat much. It
00:17:00
seemed like her mind was somewhere else.
00:17:02
And Oh, hold on for a second.
00:17:06
Sorry. Um, I have company now, Mr.
00:17:09
Harold. When can I see you? Maybe
00:17:11
tomorrow. I want to talk to you about
00:17:12
this.
00:17:13
>> Okay, good idea.
00:17:15
>> Then could you come by my clinic in
00:17:16
River North? I'll be there around 4.
00:17:19
>> Okay. I'll see you then.
00:17:21
>> Great. I'll see you. Bye.
00:17:29
>> Listen to this, JB. Here's a phrase that
00:17:31
says, "People who live freely in your
00:17:33
memory will never die."
00:17:36
Tell me, darling, will you let me live
00:17:38
in your mind even if my job kills me
00:17:41
someday?
00:18:30
I got you some coffee.
00:18:32
>> Thank you. Oh god, my head hurts like
00:18:35
hell.
00:18:36
>> Uhhuh.
00:18:39
>> Hey, look, Harold. I
00:18:41
>> don't call me Harold. Everybody calls me
00:18:43
JB.
00:18:45
>> All right, JB.
00:18:48
Look, I'm a man of my word. All right,
00:18:51
you can run the investigation any way
00:18:53
you want. Just
00:18:55
just tell me what to do.
00:19:07
Do you frequent bars?
00:19:11
>> Yeah, every now and then.
00:19:13
Last night I had too much to drink.
00:19:17
What we talk about?
00:19:19
>> You don't remember anything?
00:19:30
Hey, look. You know what I mean? I mean,
00:19:33
this town's full of temptation.
00:19:36
So, she figures she's a woman alone in
00:19:39
Chicago.
00:19:41
Nobody knows her. Doesn't matter what
00:19:43
people think of her, so she can do
00:19:44
whatever she wants.
00:19:47
But a cap salary is peanuts if you want
00:19:50
to live in the fast lane.
00:19:52
>> That's why she got into coke. You mean?
00:19:55
>> Oh, yeah. Every cop knows that's the
00:19:57
fastest way to make bucks, but it can
00:19:59
backfire on you. The dealer's found her
00:20:02
out and must have put a hit on her.
00:20:05
Angie, hey, she was expendable, so she
00:20:08
got used as bait.
00:20:10
>> You got any proof?
00:20:12
>> No. No proof.
00:20:22
All right.
00:20:24
He's got a database regarding the case.
00:20:27
All the findings from the ID unit have
00:20:29
been dumped in there. Here,
00:20:33
use my ID. I got bad chemistry with that
00:20:35
thing. All right. I'll leave it up to
00:20:37
you.
00:26:02
Results will be input into the terminal
00:26:03
computer first thing tomorrow morning.
00:26:05
You can look at your computer for the
00:26:07
data.
00:26:48
So JB, where are we going next?
00:27:12
Hello, Mr. Rosen.
00:27:15
>> How's your wife doing?
00:27:16
>> She's getting better, thank you. Not
00:27:19
well, actually. It's going to take a
00:27:21
while before she's able to get up.
00:27:24
Any news today?
00:27:26
>> I brought a new detective who's joined
00:27:28
the investigation.
00:27:29
>> Really? JB Herald, Liberty Town Police
00:27:32
Department.
00:27:34
>> Liberty Town.
00:27:35
>> Katherine White was a fellow detective
00:27:37
there.
00:27:39
>> Look, uh, can we talk inside?
00:27:43
>> Yeah, sure. Come on in.
00:27:57
So, how you doing? Have the day off?
00:28:00
Yeah, I uh I took a little time off to
00:28:02
try to get things organized and uh take
00:28:06
care of my wife.
00:28:07
>> I know you've told it all before, but
00:28:09
could you tell us about the case?
00:28:11
>> Look, if possible, we'd like to talk to
00:28:13
your wife as well.
00:28:15
>> Sure. Okay.
00:28:24
>> Could you tell us where you were on the
00:28:26
night Angie was killed?
00:28:28
Yeah, I I was pretty busy that day. Um I
00:28:32
must have been in the office till after
00:28:33
10:00. Anyway, when I got home, it was
00:28:36
around 11:00 and uh my wife was was
00:28:40
pretty worried saying that uh Angie
00:28:42
hadn't gotten back and she didn't know
00:28:44
where she was.
00:28:46
Anyway, we uh we stayed up all night
00:28:48
waiting for Angie.
00:28:49
>> How did you find out she was killed?
00:28:54
>> On the TV.
00:28:56
I was watching the news and they were
00:28:58
saying
00:28:59
something about an unidentified girl
00:29:02
being found dead.
00:29:05
So I called the police.
00:29:15
>> You identified Angie on the 9th,
00:29:17
correct?
00:29:18
>> Yeah. Yeah, that's right.
00:29:20
I went down to the morg the next morning
00:29:21
with my wife and uh she was so shocked
00:29:26
she fainted.
00:29:28
>> What did you do then?
00:29:30
>> Well, they took her down to the
00:29:31
dispensary and um I stayed with her
00:29:34
until she regained consciousness.
00:29:36
Then I took her home
00:29:39
and I asked the doctor to come by and
00:29:40
and take a look at her and he basically
00:29:43
said all she needed was rest and she'd
00:29:45
get over the shock.
00:29:47
>> What happened after that?
00:29:51
And that night, this mob of newspaper
00:29:54
people and TV reporters shows up here.
00:29:57
God, I didn't want to see them.
00:30:01
I didn't even answer the phone.
00:30:12
>> Where are you from, Mr. Hart?
00:30:14
>> Uh, New York.
00:30:15
>> And you moved to Chicago?
00:30:18
Yeah, when I was 25, uh, because of my
00:30:20
business.
00:30:28
>> Had Angie ever stayed out without
00:30:30
telling you before?
00:30:31
>> No, not even once.
00:30:33
>> Do you have any idea where she was?
00:30:37
>> No.
00:30:39
>> Did you notice any changes or anything
00:30:41
different with Angie lately?
00:30:43
>> Not as far as I could see. Angie was a
00:30:46
nice, gentle daughter.
00:30:49
I just can't imagine how she got
00:30:51
involved in something like this.
00:30:53
>> Mr. Hart, I'm terribly sorry for the
00:30:56
loss of your daughter, but this was no
00:30:58
accident.
00:31:00
After Angie left your house, she changed
00:31:02
her clothes and went somewhere. Is there
00:31:05
any chance she was involved with
00:31:06
something you didn't know about?
00:31:09
>> Are you saying that my daughter was
00:31:11
hiding something from us?
00:31:12
>> You can't deny the possibility.
00:31:22
Ever seen her?
00:31:25
>> No, I I've never met her before.
00:31:28
>> She's Catherine White.
00:31:33
>> Well, can we stop now? I suppose you
00:31:36
want to see Melanie, too.
00:31:37
>> Where's your wife now?
00:31:39
>> Uh, she's in bed upstairs. I'll take
00:31:41
you.
00:31:57
Honey,
00:31:58
>> how you feeling? I
00:32:00
>> feel a little better today.
00:32:02
>> Good.
00:32:04
>> You have company, James?
00:32:06
>> Honey, these are the detectives. Uh,
00:32:08
they want to ask you a few questions
00:32:09
about Angie.
00:32:12
JB Herald, Liberty Town Police
00:32:14
Department.
00:32:16
>> Liberty Town.
00:32:19
You
00:32:21
and Detective Catherine.
00:32:22
>> Catherine was my colleague.
00:32:23
>> She killed my daughter.
00:32:26
>> Oh god. SHE SHE KILLED MY DAUGHTER.
00:32:29
>> CALM DOWN, HONEY.
00:32:30
>> That hasn't been determined yet. The
00:32:32
investigation is just starting.
00:32:34
>> We're looking for the culprit. Mrs.
00:32:35
Hart,
00:32:37
>> we need your cooperation.
00:32:46
Okay.
00:32:48
[sighs]
00:32:59
What were you doing on the day that
00:33:01
Angie was killed?
00:33:04
>> I was at home all day.
00:33:06
>> You didn't go out?
00:33:09
Do you remember what you were doing?
00:33:13
Was >> tending the roses in the greenhouse as
00:33:15
usual.
00:33:16
>> Roses.
00:33:18
>> She likes to grow roses. She raised
00:33:21
these here.
00:33:22
>> I see. And in the afternoon.
00:33:27
>> I vacuumed and cleaned house. And then
00:33:33
I baked a cherry pie.
00:33:38
Church pie was Angie's favorite.
00:33:41
>> Did you go out or did anyone visit you
00:33:43
on that day?
00:33:46
>> What time did Angie come home from
00:33:48
school?
00:33:50
>> Four.
00:33:52
We have pie together
00:33:56
and
00:33:58
>> and then
00:34:01
[sighs]
00:34:02
>> and Angie said she had something to do
00:34:04
and went out.
00:34:06
>> Did she mention where she was going?
00:34:09
>> No, but she did say she'd be back at
00:34:11
9:00.
00:34:22
Have you ever seen her before?
00:34:27
>> I've never met her before.
00:34:39
>> Can you tell us any more about Angie?
00:34:44
Angie.
00:34:49
Apparently, I knew nothing at all about
00:34:51
her.
00:34:54
Nothing at all.
00:35:03
Hello.
00:35:05
Oh, you?
00:35:08
Yeah. Okay, I see.
00:35:10
Could you hold on a second, please?
00:35:13
It's my company. Um, I'm going to have
00:35:15
to take this in the other room. Can you
00:35:17
excuse me, please?
00:35:32
Mrs. Hart, is there anything you can
00:35:34
tell us that might help us? Anything?
00:35:36
Even a small thing might be important.
00:35:43
I've left Angie's room untouched since
00:35:46
that day.
00:35:49
Maybe you'll find something in there.
00:35:53
>> Look, JB. I'll stay here with Mrs. Hart
00:35:55
and go check out Angie's room.
00:37:02
What are you doing in here? The Chicago
00:37:05
police have already been through this
00:37:06
room.
00:37:09
>> Well,
00:37:11
they might have missed something.
00:37:14
>> Did you find anything?
00:37:26
Looks like Angie was well read.
00:37:30
>> Yeah, she uh took after her mother that
00:37:32
way.
00:37:34
She wasn't a very outgoing kind of
00:37:35
person.
00:37:38
Mostly spent hours up in here just
00:37:40
reading books.
00:37:43
She once mentioned that she wanted to be
00:37:44
a writer.
00:37:46
>> A writer.
00:37:50
I used to dream of being a writer myself
00:37:52
once.
00:37:55
Guess I was a bit naive.
00:38:02
>> Hart, come here. Your wife's having some
00:38:04
kind of fit. God,
00:38:13
>> she took some medication. She should be
00:38:15
okay soon.
00:38:17
Take care.
00:38:18
>> Yeah, I really hope you find the person
00:38:20
who did this.
00:38:27
Those folks are hiding something, don't
00:38:28
you think? Hey, look. I hear the woman
00:38:32
next door is this big gossip. It seems
00:38:36
she's the main source of news for the
00:38:38
newspaper folk.
00:38:59
JB Herald Police.
00:39:01
We'd like to ask you a few questions.
00:39:04
>> Um, I suppose this is regarding Angie.
00:39:14
Oh, that was a terrible thing that
00:39:16
happened to her. I feel so sorry for her
00:39:18
family. And they seem to be getting
00:39:19
along so well, going out and doing
00:39:21
things together.
00:39:23
Well, actually, they went out for
00:39:24
holidays. But I rarely see Melanie and
00:39:27
James together anymore. In fact, since
00:39:29
Angie went to high school. Now, it seems
00:39:32
that Melanie never goes out and James is
00:39:34
rarely home.
00:39:44
Oh, I've seen her.
00:39:46
>> When was that?
00:39:47
>> Um, well, it was in the afternoon, I
00:39:50
think, last Monday. Mhm. Yeah. She was
00:39:52
asking directions around the
00:39:54
neighborhood. She showed me the heart's
00:39:55
address.
00:40:03
>> I don't know.
00:40:12
Well, that reminds me of something, Mr.
00:40:14
Harold. >> What's that
00:40:15
>> about Angie? She used to go out every
00:40:17
Monday and every Friday. I'm wondering
00:40:20
if this is giving you any clues.
00:40:30
Oh, she's very pretty, isn't she? Is it
00:40:33
true Angie had something to do with a
00:40:35
prostitution ring? Or maybe that's just
00:40:37
nothing but gossip.
00:40:56
So JB, where are we going next?
00:41:36
Hello, I'm Mary Seer, Angie's teacher.
00:41:39
>> JB Herald, Liberty Town Police
00:41:41
Department. This is Detective Rosen,
00:41:42
Chicago PD Homicide Division. We'd like
00:41:45
to ask you some questions about Angie.
00:41:48
>> Certainly. Okay, go ahead.
00:41:57
She never missed class and was a very
00:42:00
good student. She used to do well, but I
00:42:02
was concerned about how her grades had
00:42:04
dropped off recently.
00:42:12
She was a well- behaved kid. I mean, she
00:42:15
never caused any real trouble, but she
00:42:17
seemed to have some problems. Sometimes
00:42:19
she would seem depressed or withdrawn,
00:42:22
and lately her grades were down, so I
00:42:24
suggested she start counseling.
00:42:33
Mr. Rivers was in charge of counseling.
00:42:35
You might want to see him for details.
00:42:37
>> Will you call him in here, please?
00:42:40
>> I'm sorry. He's out today attending a
00:42:41
conference of the board of education,
00:42:43
but he'll be available tomorrow about
00:42:45
3:00.
00:42:54
I don't know.
00:43:03
That was the toughest thing to see
00:43:04
happen, you know. But there just some
00:43:06
students you just can't reach,
00:43:08
especially if they never really let you
00:43:10
get close to them.
00:43:19
I don't know her.
00:43:38
So JB, where are we going next?
00:44:02
What can I get you guys? Police.
00:44:05
>> Oh, so you ain't buying, huh?
00:44:07
>> Can we ask you some questions?
00:44:16
That day was so damn cold. I remember I
00:44:18
was I was ready to close a stand and
00:44:20
then I sold lemonade to a woman as young
00:44:22
as the woman who was killed.
00:44:32
I close the stand early.
00:44:41
I don't know.
00:44:49
I don't know.
00:44:58
That reminds me,
00:45:00
the woman who bought the lemonade, she
00:45:02
dropped it. And there's something
00:45:03
written on it, but it's it's great to
00:45:05
me. It doesn't make any sense, but I
00:45:07
kept it anyway cuz I thought it was
00:45:08
weird.
00:45:09
>> Dear diary, I'm hanging on the end of a
00:45:11
rope. It's too far off the ground, and I
00:45:12
can't jump off. I don't know how long I
00:45:14
can hang on.
00:45:16
>> Thanks. We'll keep this as evidence.
00:45:18
>> It's weird, huh?
00:45:27
I think she was the one that bought the
00:45:29
lemonade.
00:45:38
No, no, I definitely don't know her.
00:45:57
So JB, where are we going next?
00:46:28
I assume you work under Mr. Hart. I'd
00:46:31
like to ask you a few questions about
00:46:33
the Hart investigation.
00:46:35
>> Sure.
00:46:43
I understand you were working late with
00:46:44
Mr. Hart on the 8th. Is that correct?
00:46:49
>> Yes. It was around
00:46:51
10 when we left.
00:46:53
>> Did Mr. Hart stay with you the entire
00:46:54
time?
00:46:56
>> Yes. James didn't leave all day
00:47:00
except for once. He got a phone call and
00:47:03
then he left for about 3 hours in the
00:47:06
afternoon.
00:47:14
That reminds me, when I heard about his
00:47:16
daughter being killed with a knife, I
00:47:19
remembered something.
00:47:20
>> What was that?
00:47:24
>> James used to collect knives.
00:47:34
You know, all in all, he really is a
00:47:36
very decent and proper man.
00:47:45
I don't know.
00:47:54
I think it was about a month ago, she
00:47:57
came here to visit James
00:47:59
and they were arguing in the hall
00:48:02
and then she stormed off and he ran
00:48:06
after her asking her to stop.
00:48:15
>> Yeah, I remember.
00:48:18
I met her before. When and where?
00:48:21
>> She came here to visit James last Monday
00:48:24
afternoon and he wasn't here. So, she
00:48:27
said she'd come back.
00:48:47
Rosen, this is Fence. Listen, we got a
00:48:50
tip.
00:48:51
>> Good. What is it?
00:48:52
>> Uh, there's reports Angie was seen
00:48:54
earlier on the day she was killed.
00:48:57
>> Really? >> Yeah. Some guy saw Andrew on Michigan
00:48:59
Avenue around 5 p.m. on the A. She was
00:49:02
in a white Ferrari.
00:49:04
Bryce Rich Jr., the president of VR
00:49:06
company, was driving the car. The source
00:49:08
was unidentified.
00:49:10
Why don't you go check it out? Okay.
00:49:12
>> Roger.
00:49:38
We'd like to see Mr. Rich.
00:49:41
>> I'm afraid you don't have an appointment
00:49:42
with him.
00:49:44
Chicago Police Department. We need to
00:49:46
ask Mr. Rich a few questions regarding a
00:49:49
murder investigation.
00:49:53
>> Okay.
00:49:54
Right this way.
00:49:59
>> So, my secretary tells me you're
00:50:01
investigating a homicide.
00:50:03
>> What do you want with me?
00:50:05
>> Last Monday, a high school student named
00:50:07
Angie Hart was killed.
00:50:11
>> Yes, I read about that.
00:50:14
Well, she was reportedly seen in your
00:50:16
car that afternoon, Mr. Rich.
00:50:21
>> That's ridiculous. I don't know what
00:50:23
you're talking about.
00:50:38
>> How about this woman?
00:50:41
attractive, isn't she?
00:50:44
Unfortunately, I've never seen her
00:50:45
before.
00:50:54
Are you checking my alibi?
00:50:57
Don't waste my time.
00:50:59
>> Be wiser to answer the question if you
00:51:01
don't have anything to hide.
00:51:02
>> No, I don't think so. I don't have time
00:51:05
for [ __ ] like that.
00:51:15
I don't remember. But maybe ought to try
00:51:18
a little harder.
00:51:20
I'm serious. My interests are
00:51:22
concentrating on tomorrow, the future.
00:51:25
I'm not interested in the past.
00:51:33
Yes,
00:51:34
I see.
00:51:36
All right. I'll be right there.
00:51:40
If you gentlemen will excuse me, I'll be
00:51:42
right back.
00:52:48
Sorry, guys. Where were we?
00:52:59
>> Where is your car parked?
00:53:01
>> It's in the garage being repaired.
00:53:03
>> What happened to it? I messed up in the
00:53:06
parking lot. Got a little dent on it.
00:53:20
>> Oh, you have company, Bryce.
00:53:23
Sorry, I'll come back later.
00:53:24
>> No, Julia, never mind. They won't be
00:53:27
staying long.
00:53:29
This is our image model, Julia Foris.
00:53:34
Nice to meet you,
00:53:40
>> Julia. This is Detective Rosen from the
00:53:41
Chicago Police Department. And
00:53:43
>> JB Herald, Liberty Town Police
00:53:45
Department.
00:53:46
>> Police? Oh, Bryce, you're not going to
00:53:49
design uniforms for the police now, are
00:53:51
you? >> We didn't come here for uniforms, miss.
00:53:54
We're investigating a homicide case. We
00:53:57
need to know what your boss was doing on
00:53:59
the ETH.
00:54:00
>> The ETH? Oh, I was with him on that day.
00:54:04
>> Lucky guy.
00:54:13
>> You say you were with him?
00:54:15
>> Yes, that was on Monday, right? I had a
00:54:19
photo session for BR on that day. Came
00:54:21
here at 10:00 a.m., borrowed Bryce's
00:54:24
car, and went straight away to the
00:54:26
session.
00:54:27
>> You're right now that you mention it.
00:54:29
Bryce, you always forget things so
00:54:32
easily. It's not very good for you.
00:54:35
Bryce came to the shoot in the
00:54:37
afternoon.
00:54:38
>> Julia wore the blue and gold outfit.
00:54:40
Symbolizes this year's new concept.
00:54:44
It was inspiring.
00:54:46
>> Where did the session take place?
00:54:49
>> It's close to Buckingham Fountain. We
00:54:52
finished shooting around 5:00 p.m. and
00:54:54
Bryce stayed till it was over.
00:54:56
>> Can anyone prove it?
00:54:59
All the staff can
00:55:02
you can contact my agent, Beauty Vogue.
00:55:09
Here's the address.
00:55:22
>> Where did you go in Mr. Rich's car on
00:55:24
the ETH?
00:55:26
He came to the session in the afternoon
00:55:28
and then we went out together later.
00:55:30
>> What were you wearing? Do you remember?
00:55:33
>> My clothes.
00:55:35
>> The red dress. Julia.
00:55:38
>> Yes, that's right.
00:55:40
>> Then what?
00:55:41
>> We had dinner together.
00:55:43
>> Where?
00:55:45
>> At the restaurant in the Height.
00:55:47
It's where I'm living now.
00:55:58
I don't think I've met her before.
00:56:11
>> Have you heard about the murder of Angie
00:56:12
Hart, a high school student?
00:56:16
>> Yes, I saw it on the TV news and read
00:56:19
about it in the newspapers.
00:56:22
So what?
00:56:24
I don't have anything to do with it.
00:56:28
>> Well, guys, my alibi has been proven by
00:56:31
Julia,
00:56:33
but I don't think you have any further
00:56:34
business with me, so I'm going to have
00:56:36
to ask you to leave. Julie and I have
00:56:39
some of our business to discuss.
00:56:46
Those
00:56:57
guys are full of [ __ ]
00:57:01
So JB, where are we going next?
00:57:26
Hello, I'm Paige McShannon.
00:57:30
Have a seat.
00:57:36
>> How can I help you?
00:57:38
>> I'm Detective Rose in Chicago Police
00:57:40
Department Homicide Division. This is
00:57:42
Detective Harold, Liberty Town Police.
00:57:45
We'd like to ask you a few questions
00:57:46
about Julia Foris. We're investigating
00:57:49
the murder of a high school student,
00:57:51
Angie Hart.
00:57:53
>> Angie Hart,
00:57:55
I see.
00:57:57
And how is Julia related to this?
00:58:00
>> On that day, Angie was seen with Bryce
00:58:03
Rich in his car. However, the model
00:58:05
Julia stated that she was with Rich.
00:58:08
>> Yes.
00:58:10
Well, we're trying to establish Julia's
00:58:12
whereabouts, and we need collaboration
00:58:13
from somebody else.
00:58:15
>> I see. Go ahead.
00:58:19
Ask me anything you want to know.
00:58:28
>> What was Julia's schedule on the ETH? Do
00:58:30
you remember?
00:58:37
She had a photo session for a BR company
00:58:40
catalog from 10:00 to 5:00.
00:58:42
>> How about yourself? What were you doing
00:58:43
on the night of the 8th?
00:58:45
>> I was out of town on that day. I was in
00:58:48
New York on a business trip.
00:58:58
Came back here straight from the airport
00:59:00
that evening and had a meeting with
00:59:02
Julia. Until what time were you with
00:59:04
Julia?
00:59:05
>> Until 8. I left Julia here.
00:59:16
>> You seem to do a lot of business with
00:59:18
the BR company. Have you known Bryce
00:59:20
Rich a long time? [laughter]
00:59:22
>> Of course I have. He's wonderful.
00:59:25
Bryce's designs are incredibly beautiful
00:59:28
and he's very sharp in business.
00:59:31
Basically, he's a very good client.
00:59:41
>> When did Julia join you?
00:59:44
>> It was 91 when she first signed the
00:59:46
contract with us. Right after she won
00:59:48
that year's model search contest.
00:59:52
She was quite lucky. Soon after she
00:59:54
signed here, she was chosen as the image
00:59:57
model with the BR company.
01:00:00
Now she's our top model.
01:00:10
Detectives,
01:00:12
I want to cooperate fully with your
01:00:14
investigation.
01:00:16
I feel that it's my duty as a citizen.
01:00:20
But to be blunt, I don't want anybody to
01:00:23
think that my company or my girls are
01:00:25
involved with this in any way.
01:00:35
I don't think I know her.
01:00:45
Never met her.
01:01:05
So JB, where are we going next?
01:01:42
>> [snorts]
01:01:51
>> So JB, where are we going next?
01:02:16
Hi. You must be JB Herald. Thanks for
01:02:19
coming down here. Cindy White. Good to
01:02:22
meet you.
01:02:23
>> How you doing? You're looking good as
01:02:25
ever.
01:02:26
>> Yeah, so are you. Are you working on
01:02:29
this with him?
01:02:30
>> Yes.
01:02:31
>> Must be hard for you.
01:02:32
>> Yeah. What the hell is that supposed to
01:02:34
mean? Huh?
01:02:35
>> Have a seat.
01:02:42
I've heard so much about you from
01:02:43
Catherine. It seems like you're the
01:02:45
perfect image of her description.
01:02:48
>> Are you seeing patients here?
01:02:50
>> Yes, but I've been working on a
01:02:51
monograph and I haven't seen as many
01:02:53
patients lately.
01:02:54
>> I see. What's the theme of the report?
01:02:57
>> Psychology of crime. Hey,
01:02:59
>> that's pretty wild.
01:03:07
Catherine,
01:03:16
>> did you see Katherine on the day Angie
01:03:18
was killed?
01:03:19
>> Yes, we had lunch together. I left her
01:03:22
around 2. Katherine said she was going
01:03:25
to be going back home the following day.
01:03:28
>> Where did she go after that?
01:03:30
>> I don't know.
01:03:31
>> How about you? Where did you go? I came
01:03:34
back here to write my report. I was here
01:03:36
until late.
01:03:40
>> Would you like a cup of coffee or tea?
01:03:42
>> No, thank you. What I really want is to
01:03:45
hear what you began to mention on the
01:03:47
phone.
01:03:50
>> It's uh
01:03:55
Hey, look, JB. You want me to leave you
01:03:57
guys alone? It's no problem.
01:04:06
So, could you tell me about Catherine
01:04:08
when you saw her last?
01:04:10
>> It's obvious she had problems. She
01:04:12
looked frightened.
01:04:14
>> Did she mention what she was doing in
01:04:16
Chicago? >> She said she was on vacation. She always
01:04:18
gave me a call when she came to Chicago.
01:04:20
>> Did she have any friends other than you?
01:04:23
>> I don't know. I mean, she came to
01:04:25
Chicago for a change of pace for one or
01:04:26
two days. I mean, you knew that. She did
01:04:29
tell you that. No,
01:04:31
>> she didn't tell you. And to think this
01:04:33
is someone you were going to pop the
01:04:35
question to.
01:04:36
>> How did you know about that?
01:04:38
>> She told me she was seeing this man
01:04:39
named JB. She said he was a real piece
01:04:42
of work. Very stubborn, but attractive.
01:04:47
At first, I thought she just had a
01:04:48
problem making a decision about
01:04:49
marriage.
01:04:50
>> What?
01:04:52
>> Am I surprising you? It's never occurred
01:04:54
to you that she might have trouble
01:04:56
making up her mind.
01:04:58
I mean, she knew she was deeply in love,
01:05:00
but she wasn't sure if she could handle
01:05:01
married life. I mean, love is one thing.
01:05:04
Marriage is another.
01:05:06
It's not surprising she would have a
01:05:08
restless life being married to someone
01:05:10
like you.
01:05:12
But JB, marriage was not her problem.
01:05:14
She said there was something she had to
01:05:16
clear up before she could marry you.
01:05:18
>> Something she had to clear up.
01:05:19
>> Yeah. She said that's why she came to
01:05:21
Chicago.
01:05:22
>> To clear up.
01:05:23
>> Mhm.
01:05:25
Did Did she ever have any problems at
01:05:27
work?
01:05:28
>> No, I don't think so.
01:05:30
>> So, when I asked her about work, she
01:05:32
suddenly became very edgy. She said
01:05:34
things shouldn't have happened this way.
01:05:37
That's been nagging me ever since I left
01:05:39
her.
01:05:41
The news about Catherine has been very
01:05:44
startling to me. I felt as though my
01:05:46
premonitions had come to reality. I
01:05:49
didn't want Mr. Rosen to know this. I
01:05:50
thought it could be a disadvantage to
01:05:52
Catherine even now.
01:05:56
If you come up with any clues, anything
01:05:59
else,
01:06:01
anything,
01:06:03
please let me know.
01:06:04
>> I will.
01:06:09
>> Hey, so what's the story? Huh?
01:06:12
She got the hats for you.
01:06:17
So JB, where are we going next?
01:09:52
>> [sighs]
01:09:53
>> I got to get a pack of smokes.
01:10:02
>> Hi, Ted around.
01:10:03
>> Went out to get cigarettes. Back in a
01:10:05
minute. >> Aren't you that uh Mr. Harold of Liberty
01:10:08
Town? >> Yep.
01:10:09
>> Fred. Fred Finch.
01:10:11
I work with Ted. You can sort of say
01:10:13
he's the one who got me started in this.
01:10:18
Well, got to go. Talk to you later. Oh,
01:10:21
by the way, how you getting along with
01:10:23
Ted?
01:10:24
>> Barely.
01:10:33
>> Yeah, I heard about that. They say Ted's
01:10:36
girlfriend run off with some drug
01:10:38
dealers or something and Ted ended up
01:10:40
shooting her, right?
01:10:42
So, the female agent that was sent in as
01:10:44
a decoy was Ted's.
01:10:46
>> Yeah, that was his girlfriend, Millie. I
01:10:49
heard they were supposed to get married.
01:10:56
Hey, Mr. Harold, take care of T for me,
01:10:58
will you?
01:11:04
I went down to the crossroads, fell down
01:11:08
on my knees.
01:11:11
Goddamn cigarette machine was broken.
01:11:13
[sighs]
01:11:15
Here, have one of mine. Hey, thanks JP.
01:11:28
Angie's parents, James and Melanie,
01:11:31
identified the body on the 9th.
01:11:34
Melanie fainted at the morg.
01:11:37
There was a rose found by the body.
01:11:41
What a cocky thing to do.
01:11:51
What the hell was she doing hanging
01:11:52
around Chicago anyway?
01:11:55
I guess the notebook and the camera hold
01:11:57
the key.
01:12:06
It's obvious rich in that model Julia
01:12:08
line. Yeah. Hey, what's this?
01:12:12
>> Finch came and left it a while ago.
01:12:14
>> Fred did, huh?
01:12:16
>> Yeah. What's it about?
01:12:18
>> It's a report on Bryce Rich's tax dodge.
01:12:22
Seems he's been investigated three
01:12:24
times, but never prosecuted.
01:12:27
He's going to be awfully difficult to
01:12:28
deal with.
01:12:30
We need more evidence.
01:12:33
I'll get Fred to check his background.
01:12:39
Hey, what are we going to do now?
01:12:42
>> I suggest we split up.
01:12:45
>> Okay, whatever you want. God, I'm tired.
01:12:49
It's been a long day. I need a drink.
01:12:53
>> Yeah, I will. >> Hey, you call me if you need anything.
01:12:56
>> All right, take it easy.
01:12:59
>> Uh, Taylor called a little while ago.
01:13:02
Said he'll try to catch up with you at
01:13:03
your hotel around 11:00. So you better
01:13:06
try and be there.
01:13:08
>> Got it.
01:13:21
>> Where too?
01:13:47
Sorry for bothering you so late, but I
01:13:49
need to speak with you.
01:13:53
>> Okay, come in.
01:13:59
>> Please sit.
01:14:04
What do you want?
01:14:12
I don't know.
01:14:20
>> I don't know.
01:14:28
I know you lied when you told us Bryce's
01:14:30
alibi today.
01:14:35
Two people have been killed. I want you
01:14:38
to explain why you lied.
01:14:40
>> Well, Bryce asked me to
01:14:43
>> go on.
01:14:44
>> What I said was mostly true.
01:14:49
I had bored his car and we did have
01:14:51
dinner together that day.
01:14:54
I just wasn't with him between 5 to 8. I
01:14:57
don't know what he was doing during the
01:14:58
hours.
01:15:05
>> Is there anything else you know?
01:15:10
>> Well,
01:15:13
let's see.
01:15:18
Would
01:15:31
you have some brandy?
01:15:33
>> No, thank you.
01:15:36
>> Okay.
01:15:50
I said I didn't know that woman,
01:15:54
but I saw her last week
01:15:58
when I went to borrow Bryce's car.
01:16:01
I saw her in the office.
01:16:05
>> Thank you for telling me.
01:16:08
>> God, I told Bryce I didn't want to be
01:16:10
involved in a scandal.
01:16:13
It must be difficult to say no to your
01:16:15
most important client.
01:16:18
>> Yes, it is.
01:16:23
But I hate asking people to do me a
01:16:25
favor as much as I hate to be asked.
01:16:29
It was his mistake to ask me, me of all
01:16:32
people, to establish his alibi.
01:16:37
That's all I can tell you. Look, I
01:16:40
cooperated in your investigation, right?
01:16:42
I have a session early in the morning
01:16:43
tomorrow.
01:16:55
Where too?
01:17:24
May I sit with you?
01:17:26
>> Sure.
01:17:32
>> You alone?
01:17:33
>> Yes.
01:17:36
I saw you going into this bar.
01:17:38
>> You followed me,
01:17:39
>> right?
01:17:48
>> Have you ever been here before?
01:17:50
>> Yes, a long time ago. Just one time with
01:17:52
my ex-husband.
01:17:54
This place reminds me of something.
01:18:04
I still can't figure out what was
01:18:06
troubling Catherine.
01:18:07
>> I want to know what was on her mind,
01:18:08
too. It must be the clue to this case.
01:18:18
Speaking of Catherine, I remembered
01:18:20
something. Catherine was really
01:18:22
engrossed in this article
01:18:25
here.
01:18:30
Oh, I didn't realize it's so late. I got
01:18:32
to go.
01:18:34
>> I might stop by the clinic tomorrow.
01:18:36
>> Okay. I'll be out during the day, but
01:18:38
I'll be there at night. Good night.
01:19:00
Where too?
01:19:44
>> [bell]
01:19:47
>> Hello.
01:19:48
>> Yo, JB.
01:19:49
>> Oh, it's you, Mr. Taylor.
01:19:51
>> Yeah, here it comes. It's you, Mr.
01:19:52
Taylor. It sounds like you wish it was
01:19:54
somebody else. No, don't give me a hard
01:19:56
time.
01:19:57
>> All right. All right. How's your
01:19:59
investigation coming along?
01:20:00
>> I'm trying to trace Catherine's
01:20:02
movements here in Chicago. She went to
01:20:04
see some people that are related to this
01:20:05
case.
01:20:06
>> Really?
01:20:07
>> Any chance she might have been involved
01:20:08
in some kind of investigation here?
01:20:11
>> No way. I swear I didn't assign her to
01:20:13
any investigation. Besides, she was on
01:20:15
vacation. Suppose she came to Chicago to
01:20:18
investigate something. She'd tell you
01:20:20
about it even if she didn't tell me.
01:20:23
Check the records of her last few cases
01:20:25
she handled. If you find something
01:20:27
related to Chicago, let me know.
01:20:30
>> Okay, JB.
01:20:41
>> Look, JB.
01:20:42
>> What?
01:20:44
>> I'm going to Chicago.
01:20:45
>> Chicago?
01:20:46
>> I need some time to think things over by
01:20:48
myself. I won't be away long. Don't
01:20:52
worry, honey.
01:20:54
Before I go, I need you to promise me
01:20:56
something.
01:20:57
Don't drink too much while I'm gone.
01:20:59
Okay.
01:21:35
God, am I tired? Morning.
01:21:39
>> You look like you went a bit wild last
01:21:41
night.
01:21:42
>> Yeah, well, who's asking you?
01:21:46
>> Did you release this information?
01:21:49
>> Now, those guys are good at making up
01:21:51
stories. Watch out, they don't quote you
01:21:53
wrong.
01:22:27
I asked her about Rich's alibi on the
01:22:29
ETH again.
01:22:30
>> What'd she say?
01:22:31
>> She said she wasn't with Rich from 5:00
01:22:33
p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
01:22:36
>> Now that's odd. She'd uh change a story
01:22:39
like that without it being sweated out
01:22:41
of her.
01:22:42
>> She told me Rich asked her to lie. She
01:22:45
also said she saw Catherine in his
01:22:47
office on the morning of the 8th. Huh. I
01:22:51
see.
01:22:52
>> You don't trust her, do you?
01:22:54
>> Now, you can't trust a [ __ ] like that.
01:22:57
Change a story so quick.
01:23:06
I went to bar again before I went to the
01:23:08
hotel last night. Saw Cindy there by
01:23:12
accident.
01:23:13
>> By accident, huh?
01:23:15
>> Cindy said Katherine was totally
01:23:16
engrossed in this article.
01:23:22
The glorious life of Bryce Rich, huh? I
01:23:26
never fought a losing battle. Jesus
01:23:29
Christ.
01:23:32
You know, I'm wondering what brought
01:23:34
your girl here to Chicago. I mean, what
01:23:36
was she doing hanging around people
01:23:38
connected with Angie for?
01:23:49
Yo, pal, you better have a damn good
01:23:51
reason for busting in here like this.
01:23:57
>> So, you the dicks handling the Angie
01:23:59
Hawk case or what? Come on, fess up.
01:24:01
>> Sounds like he's looking for us. What do
01:24:03
you want?
01:24:04
>> You the [ __ ] losers.
01:24:06
>> Detectives Ted Rosen, JB Harold. Now, if
01:24:10
you want an interview or some goddamn
01:24:12
pictures, you better talk to our boss.
01:24:14
>> And hold up. I didn't come down here to
01:24:15
take any [ __ ] pictures. All right? I
01:24:16
don't waste my film on dicks like you
01:24:18
anyhow.
01:24:19
>> That's who are you, [ __ ]
01:24:28
>> What do you want?
01:24:29
>> What I want is is I want to know why you
01:24:31
haven't busted Rich yet. I tipped you
01:24:33
all so you could take him down. What's
01:24:34
up?
01:24:35
>> Are you the one who reported seeing
01:24:36
Angie in Rich's car?
01:24:37
>> Yeah, that's right.
01:24:40
So, what you going to do
01:24:49
>> before that? Why don't you introduce
01:24:51
yourself?
01:24:52
>> I'm Arnold Fenix, freelance
01:24:54
photographer. You want to check my
01:24:56
identity?
01:24:57
>> Are you an athlete or something? You
01:24:59
look pretty solid. >> Yeah, I used to be. I played in the NBA
01:25:01
for a while. You want an autograph?
01:25:03
>> Yeah, but when did you change jobs?
01:25:05
>> Three years ago.
01:25:06
>> Have you known Rich and Angie long?
01:25:08
Yeah, I've known him for a long time. I
01:25:10
photographed Rich for a couple of
01:25:11
magazine interviews. And I know Angie,
01:25:12
too.
01:25:13
>> Yeah. Well, did you take her photograph
01:25:15
as well?
01:25:16
>> Yeah, that's right. I scoped on the
01:25:17
street one day, rolled up on her, asked
01:25:19
if I could take a couple of shots. She
01:25:21
said, "Cool." Took them and sent them
01:25:22
into Babe, you know, the magazine.
01:25:34
>> What's Babe?
01:25:35
>> Babe. Babe, you know it's a trashy
01:25:37
magazine. A lot of photos of fine
01:25:39
females in it. Guys write in and get the
01:25:41
profiles and the models they got a heart
01:25:42
on for.
01:25:43
>> It's like a younger version of Playmate,
01:25:46
right? >> Exactly.
01:25:47
>> When did Angie's photograph appear in
01:25:49
this magazine?
01:25:50
>> Last month.
01:25:51
>> Did she get a lot of letters from
01:25:52
readers?
01:25:53
>> Hell yeah, man. She was fun. I heard she
01:25:55
was the most popular model ever.
01:26:04
Yeah, I'm sure that's her. I know it. I
01:26:06
photographed the [ __ ] Okay. You sure?
01:26:08
>> Yeah, I'm sure. Look, y'all got to
01:26:11
understand something. This [ __ ]
01:26:12
is pure evil. Ain't no thing for a
01:26:15
cowboy like Rich to whack a little girl.
01:26:24
Oh yeah, Katherine White. I bet he
01:26:26
dusted her, too. Ain't this a
01:26:29
[ __ ] He's out here doing
01:26:30
anything he [ __ ] wants. And y'all two
01:26:32
sitting around here jerking off with me.
01:27:03
So JB, where are we going next?
01:27:23
Oh, it's you. Look, we're sorry to
01:27:26
bother you, but could we ask you a few
01:27:27
more questions?
01:27:29
>> How are you feeling?
01:27:31
>> Better. I'm okay. Come in.
01:27:37
>> How's the investigation proceeding?
01:27:40
Have you got any clues? Angie was
01:27:42
reported to be seen with Bryce Rich in
01:27:45
his car on the day she was killed.
01:27:48
Have you ever heard his name?
01:27:50
>> Bryce Rich?
01:27:53
No, I've never heard of him.
01:28:01
>> Is Mr. Hart out now?
01:28:03
>> He's doing some shopping. Should be back
01:28:06
soon.
01:28:14
I don't know.
01:28:22
I don't know.
01:28:30
I don't know.
01:28:37
According to Angie's teacher, Angie's
01:28:40
grades were down lately and she seemed
01:28:42
to be having some problems. I'm
01:28:44
wondering if you had noticed anything
01:28:45
unusual with her.
01:28:49
If you have something on your mind,
01:28:51
please tell us, Mrs. Hart.
01:28:54
>> Here. Angie gave this to me for my
01:28:57
birthday about two weeks ago.
01:29:00
>> If that's a natural stone, I'd say
01:29:02
that's a bit too expensive for a high
01:29:04
school student to buy. Yes, I thought
01:29:06
so, too. I asked Angie how she could buy
01:29:10
such an expensive ring, but Angie got
01:29:13
mad at me, saying I should have at least
01:29:16
have appreciated it. She wouldn't say
01:29:18
how she got it.
01:29:20
>> Do you mind if we take this ring back to
01:29:21
the station and have it checked?
01:29:23
>> No, go ahead.
01:29:26
I haven't mentioned this to my husband,
01:29:28
so please uh keep it secret.
01:29:36
Oh, you guys are here.
01:29:40
>> Melanie, are you okay?
01:29:42
>> Yes, I'm all right, dear.
01:29:45
>> Any progress?
01:29:46
>> They say Angie was seen in the car of a
01:29:49
man named Bryce Rich.
01:29:52
>> Then this man killed Angie.
01:29:54
>> We don't know yet. It's one possibility.
01:29:59
But this man, he
01:30:00
>> Oh my god,
01:30:01
>> Melanie, what's the matter? I
01:30:03
>> I just feel dizzy.
01:30:05
>> Okay, don't move. Okay, you need to lie
01:30:07
down. [sighs] Look, she hasn't recovered
01:30:09
yet. Could you guys please leave?
01:30:12
>> Please.
01:30:27
So JB, where are we going next?
01:30:54
Yeah, we'd like to see Mr. Rich.
01:30:57
>> I'm sorry. He's out.
01:30:58
>> Where is he?
01:31:00
>> Well,
01:31:02
>> you don't know.
01:31:03
>> I'm sorry, I don't.
01:31:12
>> We're investigating the murder of a high
01:31:14
school student. Can you check his
01:31:16
schedule for the ETH?
01:31:17
>> I'm sorry, I can't.
01:31:20
>> What do you mean you can't? You're a
01:31:22
secretary, aren't you? You're supposed
01:31:23
to know those things.
01:31:26
>> I don't know. I just started here
01:31:28
yesterday.
01:31:29
>> What happened to the former secretary?
01:31:32
>> I heard she quit. Anyway, I never met
01:31:34
her.
01:31:43
>> I don't know her.
01:31:51
Do you have any idea where he's gone?
01:31:53
Well,
01:31:54
>> I think he went to pick up his car.
01:31:55
That's what he told me. He just said
01:31:56
he'd be back by 4:00.
01:31:57
>> Where does he have his car serviced?
01:32:01
>> Let's see. It's
01:32:02
>> Come on, think a little harder,
01:32:04
sweetheart. >> Well, they called here. That's when he
01:32:06
left.
01:32:07
>> Okay, good. Where, too?
01:32:10
>> Come on, speak.
01:32:12
>> Auto repair 25. Something like that.
01:32:14
>> I know that. It's on the loop.
01:32:24
I don't know.
01:32:33
I've never met her before. But
01:32:34
>> But
01:32:35
>> but she looks familiar.
01:32:37
>> Where'd you see her?
01:32:39
>> I can't remember.
01:32:49
>> [snorts]
01:32:58
>> So JB, where are we going next?
01:33:26
Hey, where are you going?
01:33:28
>> Let's ask the girl some questions. Huh?
01:33:35
>> Do you have a moment?
01:33:36
>> Yeah. What is it?
01:33:37
>> We're with the police. We'd like to ask
01:33:40
you a few questions.
01:33:42
police.
01:33:43
>> Hey, look. He's scaring these beautiful
01:33:45
young ladies, huh? Will you let me
01:33:47
handle it?
01:33:55
>> Hey, are either of you girls friends
01:33:57
with Julia Foris?
01:33:59
>> I don't think we're friends. I mean, she
01:34:00
is a lot older than us and she's done a
01:34:03
lot of work. I mean, she's pretty much
01:34:04
the big model in our agency. Hey, well,
01:34:07
maybe she's the big model now, but you
01:34:10
girls are tomorrow's stars, right?
01:34:12
>> Well, we hope so.
01:34:14
>> Hey, everybody's got a chance.
01:34:16
>> Yeah, I guess you're right. I mean, if
01:34:18
you consider the fact that Julia used to
01:34:20
belong to a third grade agency like
01:34:21
Urban Models, I still think we have a
01:34:24
good chance. >> Well, you're telling me that she had to
01:34:26
work to get where she is? She just
01:34:28
didn't rise to stardom with a single
01:34:30
click of the shutter?
01:34:31
>> That's right. She proved it. Even a
01:34:33
centerfold pinup girl can become a big
01:34:35
star if she can get the chance to prove
01:34:37
herself.
01:34:38
>> Ain't that true? If you sell your soul
01:34:40
to the devil to get what you want like
01:34:42
Julia has.
01:34:43
>> I won't prostitute myself for any job.
01:34:53
>> I don't know. I don't know either.
01:35:02
Sounds like McShannon has pretty high
01:35:04
opinion of Julia.
01:35:06
>> Yeah, well, Julia owes all her success
01:35:08
to Paige. Paige is like our mom. She's
01:35:11
also our teacher. She's trained a lot of
01:35:13
supermodels.
01:35:14
>> Yeah, I wish she'd push us like that,
01:35:15
but I guess she's just too busy. She's
01:35:18
hardly in her office. She's even out
01:35:19
now.
01:35:27
Have you uh ever heard anything about
01:35:29
the uh president of the BR company?
01:35:32
>> Oh yeah, of course we have. He's famous
01:35:35
and infamous.
01:35:37
>> What do you mean?
01:35:38
>> Well, he's generous when it comes to
01:35:40
money, but he screws everything that
01:35:42
moves. Rachel,
01:35:52
>> we're investigating the murder of a high
01:35:54
school student, Angie Hart.
01:35:56
>> Oh, was she a model or something?
01:35:58
>> No.
01:35:59
>> I want to stay away from [ __ ] like that.
01:36:08
>> Well, hey, isn't that the one Paige
01:36:10
brought by here a while ago? Did you see
01:36:13
her? >> I think so, but um I'm not sure.
01:36:25
>> I don't know her.
01:36:26
>> Never met her.
01:36:45
So JB, where are we going next?
01:37:14
Yo, Ted.
01:37:16
>> Joe, man. What's up? You still a cop?
01:37:19
>> Yeah, I'm surviving. Look at you. Never
01:37:22
thought you'd sober up get a job.
01:37:24
>> Oh, [ __ ] I'm a decent worker, you know,
01:37:26
unlike you. Anyway, what's up today?
01:37:29
investigation.
01:37:30
>> Yeah.
01:37:31
>> Do you need my help?
01:37:40
>> I don't know.
01:37:48
>> Yeah. Do you know this model, Julia
01:37:50
Foris, who lives here?
01:37:51
>> Sure do. She's a fox.
01:37:54
>> Yeah. Does she get much company?
01:37:57
>> Rarely. What about men?
01:37:59
>> Well, I've never seen her coming back
01:38:00
with a man.
01:38:04
>> I don't believe it.
01:38:05
>> Well, if you don't believe it, don't.
01:38:07
Anyway, I've never seen it ever.
01:38:10
>> But
01:38:11
>> But what?
01:38:12
>> There is one. Her old man.
01:38:15
>> Her old man.
01:38:17
>> Yeah. Her father comes by every now and
01:38:18
then begging for money. Slimy guy. He
01:38:22
never leaves without money. And what's
01:38:24
worse, he's a sloppy drunk.
01:38:35
I don't know.
01:38:43
>> Yeah, we're investigating the murder of
01:38:45
Angie Hart.
01:38:47
>> Yeah, read about that in the newspaper.
01:38:57
I know her.
01:38:58
>> Really?
01:38:59
>> Yeah, definitely. About two weeks ago,
01:39:01
she came and left a bunch of flowers for
01:39:02
Julia at the front desk.
01:39:04
>> She brought flowers for Julia?
01:39:05
>> Yeah. I thought she might be her fan.
01:39:07
You know, there are folks like that.
01:39:10
Hey, don't tell me it was her.
01:39:13
Really?
01:39:24
Never met her.
01:39:42
So JB, where are we going next?
01:40:08
Chicago Police Department got some
01:40:10
questions to ask you.
01:40:12
>> Police? Jeez, sounds scary.
01:40:15
>> Go ahead. Pull up a chair.
01:40:21
>> We'd like you to tell us about Julia
01:40:23
Foris. We understand she was with this
01:40:25
agency.
01:40:27
Julia, huh?
01:40:34
>> When did you represent her?
01:40:38
>> It was
01:40:40
about four years ago. And she was with
01:40:43
me for two years.
01:40:46
>> Where did she work for mostly?
01:40:48
>> Mostly
01:40:50
centerfolds, pin-ups, trashy magazines.
01:40:54
You know, I never dreamed she would have
01:40:56
been so successful.
01:40:58
>> She was just damn lucky.
01:41:00
>> Was she a model before she came to your
01:41:02
agency?
01:41:03
>> I'm not sure about that. I mean, she was
01:41:05
with this slimy leech who was taking
01:41:07
advantage of her. You know, she begged
01:41:10
me for a job. I mean, she would do
01:41:12
anything she could. If it paid the
01:41:14
bucks, she'd go for it.
01:41:16
>> Yo, what happened to the slimy leech?
01:41:21
>> He died.
01:41:22
>> Died? Yeah.
01:41:25
And you know, right after he died, luck
01:41:28
just flew into her life.
01:41:37
>> What's the reputation of beauty Vogue in
01:41:40
this field,
01:41:42
Paige?
01:41:43
Well, she's one hell of a Wheeler
01:41:45
dealer. And let me tell you, when it
01:41:48
comes to raising the pay of her models,
01:41:52
there's none like her. Of course, she
01:41:55
has the greatest models, and she charges
01:41:57
the most for them, too.
01:42:07
>> Have you ever worked for BR Company?
01:42:09
>> Of course not. I don't have a lot of big
01:42:12
clients. You know, back then I tried to
01:42:14
push Julie on them,
01:42:17
but it didn't work.
01:42:27
I don't know.
01:42:35
We are investigating the murder of a
01:42:37
high school student named Angie Hart.
01:42:41
>> Listen, I don't get involved in risky
01:42:43
businesses and I don't know anything
01:42:45
about a murder, okay?
01:42:48
There's no way.
01:42:57
>> No, I don't know her.
01:43:06
Yeah,
01:43:08
now she's my type.
01:43:18
>> [snorts]
01:43:33
>> Hey, want a bike? It's not bad.
01:44:02
All right, just a minute.
01:44:12
Hi, can I help you? What kind of sports
01:44:14
you into? We got a wide variety of
01:44:16
selections. We got baseball, football,
01:44:18
basketball, wrestling, hockey. Oh, I
01:44:21
should add, we're also in the sumo.
01:44:23
>> Sumo?
01:44:24
>> Yeah.
01:44:26
>> We're not buying anything. We're
01:44:28
detectives.
01:44:30
Is Arnold Finnick around?
01:44:32
>> Arnold? Uh, he's gone already.
01:44:41
Where has Phoenix gone?
01:44:43
>> I don't know. He rushed out of here in a
01:44:45
fluster saying he had this incredibly
01:44:47
big story. He exaggerates everything.
01:44:50
Um, but he did say he'd get in contact
01:44:51
with you guys later.
01:44:59
>> What do you sell here?
01:45:01
>> We're selling dreams.
01:45:03
>> Dreams? We sell fictionalized contracts
01:45:06
with pro sports teams for the customer
01:45:07
under the condition they want. They not
01:45:09
only get contracts, we give them press
01:45:11
releases and newspaper articles praising
01:45:13
their abilities.
01:45:21
I don't know.
01:45:29
We're investigating the murder of a high
01:45:31
school student named Angie Hart.
01:45:34
Hey guys, I don't want no problems with
01:45:37
the police. Arnold's my buddy, but I
01:45:40
don't want nothing risky.
01:45:49
I don't know.
01:45:56
I don't know.
01:46:14
So JB, where are we going next?
01:46:41
Where the hell's goddamn rich gone?
01:46:47
What can I do for you?
01:46:53
>> We're detectives. Can we talk?
01:46:57
Yeah.
01:47:05
I don't know.
01:47:13
I don't know.
01:47:20
>> I heard the president of BR Company had
01:47:22
his car fixed here. Yeah, he was a
01:47:25
[ __ ] too, man. That guy's a jerk. So,
01:47:27
he's rushing us around.
01:47:29
>> Yeah. Where's his car?
01:47:30
>> Picked it up.
01:47:31
>> I see. What part did you fix? I uh I
01:47:36
pulled a dent out of the body and uh
01:47:39
recovered the seat.
01:47:40
>> Recovered the seat?
01:47:42
>> Yeah. It was all cut up or something. I
01:47:44
I don't know.
01:47:45
>> When did he bring it in here?
01:47:48
>> The uh brought it in the morning of the
01:47:51
9th.
01:47:59
Have you heard about the murder of Angie
01:48:01
Hart, a high school student?
01:48:03
>> Yeah. Yeah. That's the uh someone they
01:48:06
found dead up at the planetarium, huh?
01:48:08
You know, I heard some female detective
01:48:09
did that. One of your buddies, huh?
01:48:13
I say something wrong.
01:48:14
>> Yeah, you did.
01:48:19
>> You know, man, that reminds me when Rich
01:48:20
was in here reading the paper. When was
01:48:22
that?
01:48:24
>> Day he got his car fixed. He came in and
01:48:26
there was a guy reading the paper and he
01:48:28
snatched it out of his hands. Got all
01:48:30
serious about it. You know, I figured
01:48:32
maybe he knew the chick or something. I
01:48:34
made a joke about it. I said, "What?
01:48:35
That's the chick you've been hot with?"
01:48:37
And he just flipped out, man. Started
01:48:39
yelling at me.
01:48:48
Nah, man. I don't know her.
01:48:57
Nah, no. I'd never forget a fox like
01:48:59
that, man.
01:49:19
So JB, where are we going next?
01:51:04
So JB, where are we going next?
01:51:40
Good afternoon. I'm JB Herald, Liberty
01:51:42
Town Police Department. This is
01:51:43
Detective Ted Rosen, Chicago PD Homicide
01:51:46
Division.
01:51:47
>> I'm Mr. Rivers. Nice to meet you. Ser
01:51:50
told me you wanted to know about the
01:51:51
counseling I had with Angie. Is that
01:51:53
correct?
01:51:54
>> Yes, that's right. Could you tell us
01:51:55
about it?
01:52:02
I don't know.
01:52:10
I don't know.
01:52:18
The relationship with her parents was
01:52:20
difficult. She said she wasn't loved and
01:52:23
she shouldn't have been born. How did
01:52:25
you respond to that?
01:52:27
>> Angie was young. I mean, in the middle
01:52:29
of adolescence. It's the most enjoyable
01:52:32
time in life, people say. But it's a
01:52:34
time of transition as well. It's a time
01:52:36
where they're desperately searching for
01:52:38
their own identity. They just don't know
01:52:40
who they are. I told her most kids at
01:52:43
her age had experienced that at one time
01:52:45
or another.
01:52:54
Can you think of any information that
01:52:55
might help us out?
01:52:57
>> I can't think of anything significant.
01:53:00
I'm just shocked. It's a terrible thing
01:53:03
to happen to her. I don't think her
01:53:05
problems had anything to do with this
01:53:07
case, but I just wish I could have
01:53:09
worked harder to help her out.
01:53:18
Angie was very sensitive.
01:53:27
I don't know her.
01:53:46
So JB, where are we going next?
01:54:29
So JB, where are we going next?
01:54:58
>> [snorts]
01:55:12
>> Hey, want a piece? It's not bad.
01:55:15
Hey, look. There's James Hart.
01:55:18
He's in a hurry. Hey, he's getting in
01:55:20
that taxi. Hey, let's tail him. What do
01:55:23
you say?
01:55:28
Well, well, he's going into that
01:55:30
building.
01:55:35
What the hell's he doing?
01:55:40
What's taking that guy so long? Let's go
01:55:43
take a look.
01:55:55
Pardon me. Can I help you?
01:55:58
>> Yeah.
01:56:02
>> There was a man in here.
01:56:08
>> Oh, you must be talking about Hart.
01:56:10
>> Yes.
01:56:11
>> He's the father of Red Shoes. He was
01:56:12
here a while ago.
01:56:14
>> Red Shoes.
01:56:25
Where has he gone?
01:56:27
He left through the back door.
01:56:37
>> What's this office?
01:56:40
>> Bloody Mary.
01:56:41
>> Bloody Mary.
01:56:44
Yes, it's a members association and I'm
01:56:46
the chairperson. Lily Alden
01:56:49
>> private club, huh? Well, what do you
01:56:51
people do in this here bloody Mary?
01:56:54
>> Well, the purpose of our organization is
01:56:56
to express ourselves and share the
01:56:59
feelings with others through writing.
01:57:01
>> Pardon?
01:57:02
>> Well, in other words, members write
01:57:04
stories and present them to other
01:57:05
members and get their opinions.
01:57:08
>> Does James Hart belong to this club?
01:57:12
No, it was his first time here. He's the
01:57:15
father of Red Shoes.
01:57:17
>> What do you mean by Red Shoes?
01:57:20
>> Well, every member has a pen name. And
01:57:23
the birth name of Red Shoes is Angie
01:57:25
Hart.
01:57:33
>> What was Hart doing here?
01:57:36
>> Well, I contacted him and I asked him to
01:57:38
come and pick up a story that Red Shoes
01:57:40
had written.
01:57:49
I don't know.
01:57:58
>> I don't know.
01:58:06
>> Did you hear about the murder?
01:58:07
>> Of course I did. It was on the
01:58:09
television and the newspaper.
01:58:12
I remember her red shoes. She came here
01:58:14
every Monday, but she didn't make it
01:58:16
here on the ETH.
01:58:27
>> Oh, yeah. I know. Red Shu. She joined
01:58:29
the club six months ago.
01:58:31
>> What kind of stories did she write?
01:58:34
passionate, tense and romantic stories
01:58:38
that were becoming to her personality.
01:58:41
She also wrote um mysterious and tense
01:58:44
detective stories.
01:58:46
You know, everybody loved her work.
01:58:58
No, she doesn't belong to our club.
01:59:18
So JB, where are we going next?
02:00:31
Hey, Ted. There you are.
02:00:32
>> Yo, Fred, what's up?
02:00:34
>> Look, an officer found these in a coin
02:00:36
locker while on patrol.
02:00:38
We think these are the clothes Andy was
02:00:40
wearing when she left the house.
02:00:41
>> What the hell is this thing?
02:00:44
Oh,
02:00:49
hey, this is weird. Listen to this.
02:00:52
A mob of sheep came to go through some
02:00:55
wooden gates. I helped the sheep so they
02:00:59
could make it. And I hugged a black
02:01:02
sheep tightly. What the hell is this
02:01:04
[ __ ]
02:01:05
>> I don't know. It's only my opinion, but
02:01:06
it seems like one of those diaries where
02:01:08
she might have kept record of her dreams
02:01:10
or something like that.
02:01:11
>> A record of her dreams.
02:01:12
>> Yeah, I kept one of those things. You
02:01:14
know, I wake up in the morning and I
02:01:15
write down the dream I just had.
02:01:17
>> Uh-huh.
02:01:25
>> Do you think this is connected to the
02:01:26
case?
02:01:27
>> No idea.
02:01:28
>> Looks like some souvenir from South
02:01:30
America or something.
02:01:31
>> South America.
02:01:40
Doesn't make any sense. I tell you,
02:01:43
dreams can tell you a lot. I bet if we
02:01:45
have that diary analyzed, we can get
02:01:46
some idea what was on Angie's mind.
02:01:49
>> The last entry was November 7th. Now, if
02:01:52
we could get that diary checked out, it
02:01:54
might tell us something. I can't deal
02:01:56
with [ __ ] like that, though. Why don't
02:01:58
you have that woman doc check it out?
02:02:22
Where too?
02:03:00
Hi, I've been waiting for you.
02:03:01
>> Hello. Sorry to bother you. I want to
02:03:03
ask for your help.
02:03:04
>> I know. An analysis of Angie's diary,
02:03:07
right? Rosen just called and said you
02:03:09
were on your way.
02:03:10
>> I see.
02:03:12
This is the diary.
02:03:16
>> Okay. Be happy to do that.
02:03:18
>> How long do you think it'll take you to
02:03:19
finish?
02:03:20
>> I know you're in a hurry. I'll do it
02:03:22
ASAP and let you know when it's done.
02:03:25
Why don't you take a break? Have a seat.
02:03:35
>> All right, I will. Thank you.
02:03:42
>> So, how's the investigation going? Any
02:03:45
progress?
02:03:46
>> Well, not so bad.
02:03:48
>> What does that mean? Tell me. Have you
02:03:50
found any clues? Anything that might
02:03:52
help clear Catherine's name?
02:04:01
We found that Catherine visited some
02:04:02
places related to Angie, such as Angie's
02:04:04
house, Angie's father's office.
02:04:07
>> What? Why would she do such things?
02:04:10
>> I don't know.
02:04:14
Well, I've got to go.
02:04:29
Where too?
02:05:06
Evening, >> my man in blue. What's up?
02:05:09
>> You left us standing at your buddy's
02:05:11
shop.
02:05:12
>> Yeah.
02:05:13
>> Can I sit?
02:05:15
Go >> ahead, man.
02:05:26
I don't know.
02:05:34
>> Sounds like you got a big story, huh?
02:05:37
>> Yeah. Well, I thought I might step by
02:05:38
the precinct tomorrow and give you all a
02:05:40
little gift. And what would that be?
02:05:43
>> Nothing. Just definite evidence that
02:05:45
Rich did Angie Hart. I'll have it in no
02:05:47
time.
02:05:48
>> Don't beat around the bush. Tell me now.
02:05:50
>> Chill out. Be patient, babe. You're
02:05:52
going to have a lot of fun tomorrow.
02:06:01
>> Why are you so pissed off at Rich
02:06:03
anyway?
02:06:05
>> He's a slimy sneak.
02:06:07
>> A slimy sneak.
02:06:08
>> Okay. He's a scumbag. I hate Rich far
02:06:11
more than I hate cops.
02:06:14
Also, he don't know a thing about
02:06:15
design. All his designs, he's cribed
02:06:18
from other people's work.
02:06:25
I got a break, man. Got an appointment.
02:06:28
All right, take it easy. I'll see you
02:06:30
tomorrow. Huh?
02:06:31
>> Word.
02:06:51
Where too?
02:07:39
Hello. >> Yo, JB.
02:07:40
>> Oh, Mr. Taylor.
02:07:41
>> Listen, JB. We have found a case
02:07:43
Catherine was in charge of involving
02:07:45
other crimes.
02:07:46
>> What other crimes?
02:07:47
>> Forging birth certificates. She was
02:07:49
investigating this guy and it's reported
02:07:51
that she had inquired to the Chicago
02:07:52
police several times about criminal
02:07:55
JB. This is nagging me. He must have
02:07:58
known something. I'll talk to you later.
02:08:01
>> Bye.
02:08:13
>> Hello.
02:08:14
>> What's the matter?
02:08:26
I surprised you, didn't I?
02:08:28
>> What's wrong? Something's happening
02:08:31
makes you feel you need to see a cop?
02:08:33
>> I'm so scared. I feel I'm being watched.
02:08:36
>> Watched?
02:08:39
When did this begin?
02:08:42
>> I don't know. I just don't want to be
02:08:44
alone tonight.
02:08:46
Tell me in detail.
02:09:05
>> Hello.
02:09:06
>> Hi, Harold. This is Finch.
02:09:08
>> Yeah. What's the matter?
02:09:10
>> Well, Ted asked me to check out Rich's
02:09:12
background and stuff, and the report
02:09:13
just came back. Where is Rosen?
02:09:17
>> He got a call from some guy named
02:09:18
Phoenix. Then he rushed out of the
02:09:20
office. Ted told me to contact.
02:09:22
>> I see.
02:09:24
>> Yeah, I found something that might help.
02:09:26
Listen, Rich broke his leg and was in
02:09:28
the hospital in ' 88. Guess what? Doctor
02:09:31
in charge was Cindy's ex-husband,
02:09:33
Michael Eert.
02:09:35
>> Michael Eert?
02:09:36
>> Yeah. And Eert's been missing since he
02:09:38
went to South America two years ago.
02:09:41
Here's more. In 81, Rich started his
02:09:43
design business with a partner in
02:09:45
Manhattan, but the partner vanished
02:09:47
after that Black Monday in ' 87. Now
02:09:49
Rich is the financer of Beauty Vote.
02:09:51
Somehow he's gotten ownership from the
02:09:53
president.
02:09:55
>> Anyway, I'll give you all the details
02:09:56
tomorrow.
02:09:57
>> Okay. Thanks, Finch.
02:10:48
I'll be back this weekend. I told Taylor
02:10:51
I was taking a vacation.
02:10:59
How come you haven't asked me anything?
02:11:01
How come you haven't asked me why I'm
02:11:03
going to Chicago?
02:11:06
That's right. I told you not to ask.
02:11:11
Good night.
02:12:29
Well, well, this is a sweet surprise.
02:12:32
What's happened?
02:12:34
>> The goddamn Fred trapped me.
02:12:36
Fred called me last night, said a report
02:12:38
on Bryce's personal data had come out.
02:12:41
>> Yeah, the [ __ ] had dumped all the data
02:12:43
into this computer. That's why I'm
02:12:46
sitting behind this [ __ ] machine
02:12:48
losing my [ __ ] mind.
02:12:50
>> Why don't you have Fred do it?
02:12:52
>> Yeah, well, I wish I could, but that
02:12:54
[ __ ] isn't on duty today.
02:12:56
>> Fred told me two people related to Bryce
02:12:58
are missing. Is that right?
02:13:00
>> Yeah, till yesterday.
02:13:03
>> What do you mean by till yesterday?
02:13:08
Okay, there it is. It's taking me all
02:13:11
day to get this baby.
02:14:12
[ __ ] I hate that [ __ ] machine.
02:14:15
Fred, what a [ __ ] Leave me this
02:14:18
note. Ted, I set up a program to allow
02:14:22
you to search for information regarding
02:14:24
the people concerned in the data of
02:14:27
criminal cases which are still unsolved.
02:14:30
I think it'll be helpful in your
02:14:31
investigation from now on. Give me that
02:14:34
trap.
02:14:35
>> He's right. You know, it will be helpful
02:14:38
in the investigation.
02:14:39
>> Yeah. Well, let him do it. Make my life
02:14:43
easier.
02:14:51
That's pretty good.
02:14:59
>> Fred mentioned Phoenix called you last
02:15:01
night. What did he bring you?
02:15:03
>> Yeah, well, his source disappeared on
02:15:05
him. He thinks Rich did it to cover his
02:15:07
ass and that we'd better nail the son of
02:15:09
a [ __ ]
02:15:10
>> There he goes.
02:15:13
>> You saw Phoenix at the bar last night,
02:15:15
didn't you? >> Yeah. They told me Rich is stealing
02:15:17
somebody's designs.
02:15:19
>> Yeah, well, I heard Rich doesn't even do
02:15:22
his own designs anymore. Either has his
02:15:24
assistants do them or just steals the
02:15:27
stuff from other people's portfolios.
02:15:30
There's this one guy used to work for
02:15:32
Rich. Had a tape recording. A Rich
02:15:35
threatening this one designer to keep
02:15:37
quiet about Rich using his designs.
02:15:41
Guess what?
02:15:43
This guy disappeared last night.
02:15:46
disappeared.
02:15:48
[snorts] >> Yeah. When Phoenix went over to his
02:15:50
place was all messed up. Wasn't any sign
02:15:53
of the guy or the tape. That's when he
02:15:56
called me screaming that we better nail
02:15:57
Rich.
02:15:58
>> But no proof, huh?
02:16:00
>> Nah. No, it's just Phoenix's damn
02:16:03
imagination.
02:16:04
I told him there wasn't a [ __ ] thing
02:16:06
we could do. At least not yet.
02:16:10
>> Phoenix's hunch.
02:16:12
>> That was your specialty, wasn't it?
02:16:15
Shut up.
02:16:24
>> I've got new information regarding
02:16:25
Katherine from Liberty Town Police.
02:16:28
>> What is it?
02:16:29
>> The last case Katherine was in charge of
02:16:31
involved various crimes, including
02:16:34
counterfeited birth certificates. She
02:16:36
had called Chicago Police Department
02:16:38
several times regarding these crimes.
02:16:40
>> Counterfeited birth certificates.
02:16:49
We'll be sweating blood before Rich
02:16:51
shows his true colors.
02:16:53
>> Yeah, that bastard's going to be a real
02:16:55
son of a [ __ ] to deal with.
02:17:04
>> What do you think of Cindy?
02:17:06
>> The woman, Doc,
02:17:09
I don't think she had anything to do
02:17:10
with this case, but I don't like her.
02:17:13
You can handle her better than I can.
02:17:17
Something about her ex-husband is
02:17:18
bugging me.
02:18:53
What are you looking for, man?
02:18:54
>> You happen to know what office Simon
02:18:56
Osborne's in.
02:18:57
>> Simon Osborne? That old man retired.
02:19:00
What do you want with him?
02:19:01
>> I need information from him regarding an
02:19:03
unsolved case he dealt with.
02:19:04
>> You know, he's living on his pension. I
02:19:06
dropped by his place once, so I know
02:19:08
where it is. You want to stop by later?
02:19:11
Yeah.
02:19:35
So, JB, where are we going next?
02:19:59
Look, I guess nobody's home.
02:20:05
>> Yes.
02:20:06
>> I sure you are home. Look, Melanie is
02:20:09
not feeling well. If this isn't urgent,
02:20:11
could you come back later?
02:20:14
>> Mr. Hart,
02:20:16
>> what?
02:20:24
>> We want you to show us a story Angie
02:20:26
wrote.
02:20:27
>> Look, I don't know what you're talking
02:20:28
about.
02:20:29
>> I'll tell you. We're talking about
02:20:30
Angie's story that you received from
02:20:32
Bloody Mary.
02:20:33
>> Angie was called Red Shoes at the club.
02:20:36
Look, there's a whole bunch of stuff
02:20:37
your daughter didn't tell you.
02:20:40
>> All right. I I admit she's a member of
02:20:41
this club, but it's got nothing to do
02:20:43
with her murder.
02:20:45
>> Now, I'm not going to show you the
02:20:46
story.
02:20:47
>> Okay, then tell us about its contents.
02:20:49
>> Anyway, it's got nothing to do with your
02:20:51
case. Look, I want to keep this story in
02:20:53
Angie's memory. You're not going to
02:20:55
touch it.
02:21:04
In the afternoon of the day Angie was
02:21:05
killed, Kathern White called on you at
02:21:07
your office. Did you know that?
02:21:08
>> No.
02:21:09
>> Katherine was investigating a
02:21:10
counterfeit birth certificate here in
02:21:12
Chicago. Does this mean anything to you?
02:21:14
>> Counterfeit birth certificates? I don't
02:21:16
know anything about that.
02:21:24
>> I heard you collect knives.
02:21:27
>> I used to. Not anymore.
02:21:29
>> Did you ever own a dagger?
02:21:34
Mr. Harold, I don't think I know what
02:21:36
you mean. That woman, that friend of
02:21:39
yours, the detective, she was found with
02:21:41
a bag of cocaine and the knife that
02:21:43
killed Angie.
02:21:45
Now, how do you explain that? How does a
02:21:47
clean living detective end up with
02:21:50
things like that when she's supposed to
02:21:51
be investigating criminal activity in
02:21:53
Chicago? Huh? I'll tell you how.
02:21:57
You don't give a damn about finding
02:21:59
Angie's killer.
02:22:03
I really feel sorry for Angie. All the
02:22:05
police care about is clearing your
02:22:07
friend's name. And Angie,
02:22:13
go away. I'll tell you nothing.
02:22:30
So JB, where are we going next?
02:22:51
Oh, hello dear. I knew you were coming.
02:22:54
You went up to the hearts, didn't you?
02:23:02
Melanie looked well today. That's good
02:23:05
for her.
02:23:06
>> Pardon?
02:23:07
>> Oh, I saw her in her garden this
02:23:08
morning. You know, it's been a long time
02:23:11
since she tended her flowers. Yes, she
02:23:13
said hi to me.
02:23:21
Speaking of the hearts, I remember
02:23:23
something very interesting.
02:23:24
>> What is it?
02:23:25
>> Well, it happened just after they moved
02:23:28
in about 10 years ago. Angie was
02:23:30
involved in a traffic accident on a
02:23:32
nearby street, and it was so bad that
02:23:34
she had to be taken to the hospital in
02:23:35
an ambulance.
02:23:37
Well, I happened to be around, so I went
02:23:39
to the hospital with Melanie. Now, Angie
02:23:42
needed a blood transfusion and James
02:23:45
came running over from his work and both
02:23:47
Melanie and James were absolutely
02:23:49
frantic. They both wanted to give their
02:23:50
blood. Well, it was the thin petite
02:23:53
Melanie who ended up donating her blood.
02:23:56
James' blood type didn't match.
02:24:00
Well, it occurred to me that um well,
02:24:04
you know, James isn't really Angie's
02:24:06
father.
02:24:08
Now, I know it's nothing but gossip, and
02:24:10
I really shouldn't say such a silly
02:24:12
thing.
02:24:21
[snorts]
02:24:30
So, JB, where are we going next?
02:24:54
Right.
02:24:56
Got it.
02:24:58
Okay, that sounds good. I'll call you
02:24:59
later.
02:25:04
>> Dr. Green.
02:25:07
>> Yeah.
02:25:08
>> We'd like to ask you a few questions
02:25:09
about Michael Ebert. He used to work at
02:25:11
this facility. May we have a moment of
02:25:12
your time?
02:25:14
>> Sure. Anything I can do.
02:25:23
>> I've been informed you've known Michael
02:25:24
Eert a long time, since college.
02:25:27
>> Yes. He was quite an outstanding
02:25:29
surgeon. Excellent.
02:25:32
Except, well, he was a bit loose with
02:25:35
money and women.
02:25:37
>> I assume you know Cindy White.
02:25:39
>> Oh, of course I do. She was Michael's
02:25:41
junior at the medical school. They were
02:25:44
very deeply in love when they first got
02:25:46
married, but after a year, Michael
02:25:49
started cheating on her. He was having
02:25:51
an affair with a young woman doctor.
02:25:54
>> Is that [snorts] the reason for the
02:25:55
divorce?
02:25:57
Not exactly.
02:25:59
Michael was also screwing around with
02:26:01
money. It seems there was this patient
02:26:04
of hers who developed serious
02:26:06
complications after surgery. This was
02:26:08
during the time that they were having
02:26:10
their affair.
02:26:12
Well, the patient's family sued for
02:26:14
malpractice
02:26:15
and she was forced to pay quite a
02:26:17
substantial sum. So, Michael withdrew
02:26:20
money from Cindy's account without
02:26:22
telling her to make up for it. And um
02:26:26
well shortly after that they were
02:26:27
getting a divorce.
02:26:29
>> Did Dr. Eert continue to see this woman
02:26:32
doctor after that?
02:26:34
>> No, they broke up. She quit her practice
02:26:37
and returned to her hometown. Michael
02:26:40
was totally devastated after Cindy left
02:26:43
him. He started using drugs very heavily
02:26:46
and um well 6 months after the divorce
02:26:49
came through, he quit his job and left.
02:26:53
Have you kept in touch with him since
02:26:54
then?
02:26:56
>> No, but I did get a postcard from him.
02:26:59
>> Postcard?
02:27:01
>> Yes, it was from South America, or at
02:27:05
least I believe it was from South
02:27:07
America. He said that uh he was on a
02:27:10
trip and had found a new job, and I'm
02:27:13
afraid that's the last I heard from him.
02:27:23
I don't know.
02:27:30
>> Do you remember Bryce Rich? One of Dr.
02:27:32
Eert's patients.
02:27:35
Bryce Rich?
02:27:38
Yes. He was in the hospital while
02:27:40
Michael was having all that difficulty
02:27:42
with his divorce.
02:27:44
Um, it it kind of seemed like they were
02:27:47
getting along very well together. They
02:27:49
were becoming friends. You know, I don't
02:27:52
think Michael would really appreciate
02:27:54
this. I think he'd be embarrassed, but I
02:27:57
think he was borrowing money from Bryce.
02:28:06
I don't know.
02:28:15
No, I don't think I know her.
02:28:25
Oh, yes. She came to see me just like
02:28:28
you. She was asking questions about
02:28:30
Cindy and and Michael.
02:28:49
Should we go to Cindy's clinic?
02:29:14
So, what do you guys want from an old
02:29:16
man?
02:29:17
>> Talk to him.
02:29:19
>> Well, sir, I need some information
02:29:21
regarding the Kevin Grady murder case in
02:29:23
1975.
02:29:25
>> Kevin Grady?
02:29:27
The report said the asalent was Danny
02:29:29
Jackson.
02:29:30
>> Danny Jackson?
02:29:33
>> Yeah, I remember the case vividly.
02:29:36
And the truth about the case is unknown.
02:29:47
Kevin was a petty gangster. To me, it
02:29:50
was just another skirmish or a fight
02:29:52
involving some dope dealer or some [ __ ]
02:29:55
like that.
02:29:57
There were no clues. We couldn't get any
02:30:00
clues cuz all his fellows vanished as
02:30:02
soon as the case went
02:30:03
>> vanished.
02:30:04
>> Well, Kevin always hung around with
02:30:06
these three punks. It was obvious they
02:30:08
had something to do with the case, but
02:30:10
there was nothing we could do about it.
02:30:12
>> Yeah, well, being a cap, you always run
02:30:14
across tons of cases like that. You know
02:30:17
who did it from the get-go, but you just
02:30:19
can't nail to some [ __ ] you know.
02:30:21
Yeah, you're telling me.
02:30:30
I think he had a mother in poor health
02:30:32
and a sister. Yeah, sister Maggie was
02:30:36
one of those that vanished.
02:30:38
Then his mother died in seven years.
02:30:43
Hardly anyone went to the funeral. It
02:30:45
was
02:30:47
terrible.
02:30:49
What were the names of the rest of
02:30:50
Kevin's henchmen?
02:30:53
>> Well, let's see. There was Gordon and
02:30:56
Allan, I think.
02:30:58
>> Kevin,
02:31:00
Maggie,
02:31:02
Gordon, and Allan.
02:31:04
>> JB, are these people connected to the
02:31:06
case or what?
02:31:17
Ah, she reminds me of someone
02:31:21
that looks like Maggie.
02:31:31
That's Katherine White. She was a
02:31:33
coworker at JB's. She got
02:31:37
She was killed on this case.
02:31:40
>> White? Yeah. What's wrong, Osborne?
02:31:45
JB, you go back to the station and you
02:31:47
look up everything involving Danny
02:31:49
Jackson. He died in 75.
02:32:10
So JB, where are we going next?
02:32:34
Come on in.
02:32:38
Have a seat.
02:32:43
I'll have the analysis done soon. I was
02:32:46
going to bring it to you this evening.
02:32:47
Can you wait a while?
02:32:49
>> I want to ask you something.
02:32:50
>> What's the matter?
02:32:52
>> You knew about Bryce Rich, didn't you?
02:32:55
>> What are you talking about?
02:32:57
>> There's any reason why you didn't tell
02:32:58
us your ex-husband was a friend of
02:33:00
Riches.
02:33:02
>> I don't know what you're talking about.
02:33:03
>> Stop playing [ __ ] innocent. You're
02:33:05
hiding something, aren't you? God,
02:33:07
>> I don't know what you're talking about.
02:33:17
Could you tell us about Michael Eert?
02:33:21
>> Did you know that Michael was missing?
02:33:23
>> I divorced Michael 3 years ago. I
02:33:26
haven't seen or heard from him since. I
02:33:28
have no idea where he is or what he's
02:33:30
doing.
02:33:31
>> Did you know that Bryce Rich was once a
02:33:33
patient of Michael's?
02:33:37
>> Miss White. Hello.
02:33:40
Susan, come in.
02:33:44
What's wrong? I
02:33:45
>> I'm not feeling very well. Miss White,
02:33:47
>> did you not sleep well last night?
02:33:49
>> No, not at all.
02:33:50
>> I see. Why don't you go wait in the
02:33:52
consultation room? Okay.
02:33:59
>> I have a patient. Can you wait a while?
02:34:01
I'll be right back.
02:34:26
What did you just do? I can't believe
02:34:28
you just searched my office. You're
02:34:30
suspicious of me, aren't you? I see. You
02:34:33
count me amongst your suspects. Okay, go
02:34:36
ahead. Search to your heart's content.
02:35:30
Are you satisfied now?
02:35:31
>> Hey, look. We didn't mean to offend you.
02:35:33
All right.
02:35:34
>> Yeah, I'm sure you didn't. Listen, I've
02:35:36
got patience to see. I will be by around
02:35:38
7 with the results of the analysis and
02:35:40
to talk to you about Michael. Goodbye.
02:35:58
So JB, where are we going next?
02:38:17
So JB, where are we going next?
02:38:39
before she left. Red shoes. I mean,
02:38:41
Angie wanted me to give this to you.
02:38:49
>> Thank you.
02:38:52
Thank you very much.
02:38:54
>> No problem.
02:39:06
Can I help you?
02:39:10
Today's our meeting day. The members
02:39:11
will be here soon.
02:39:20
Who was that lady?
02:39:24
What did you give to her?
02:39:27
>> Red Shoes left it with me.
02:39:28
>> She left it.
02:39:30
>> I got a letter in the mail from Red
02:39:32
Shoes.
02:39:33
>> What? You got mail from Angie Hart.
02:39:37
>> Red Shoes wrote me a letter and said
02:39:39
that she had a premonition about her
02:39:41
death.
02:39:43
>> Oh my god.
02:39:46
Red shoes, I got your message.
02:39:49
>> Hey, look, just tell us straight, will
02:39:50
you? I don't understand what you're
02:39:52
talking about. Just speak in plain
02:39:53
English
02:39:55
>> here.
02:40:01
>> Dear Lily, could you please return this
02:40:03
to Paige McShannon, the vice president
02:40:05
of beauty Vogue modeling for me? Thanks.
02:40:09
Red shoes.
02:40:11
What was in the package? I don't know
02:40:13
what was in the package. It's her
02:40:15
secret. I am not going to open up her
02:40:17
secret by myself.
02:40:26
>> I've got nothing more to say.
02:40:35
>> Could you tell us about the story Angie
02:40:37
wrote?
02:40:39
Red Shoes was killed before she
02:40:41
presented the story to the club.
02:40:43
>> What was the title?
02:40:46
>> Kill me.
02:40:47
>> What?
02:40:48
>> So the title was kill me. I didn't know
02:40:50
the contents.
02:41:04
>> Why don't we pop in at Beauty Vogue?
02:41:29
Come in.
02:41:32
>> I'm sorry. I'm expecting company.
02:41:35
>> Yeah. We just came by to see the nice
02:41:37
little package you got from Lily the
02:41:39
Bloody Mary.
02:41:41
>> What are you talking about?
02:41:43
>> Please tell us about Angie Hart.
02:41:52
>> What did Angie return to you? I want you
02:41:55
to show us the package.
02:42:05
Where did you see Angie?
02:42:08
If you don't say anything, I'll begin to
02:42:10
wonder if you're hiding something.
02:42:13
>> Now I'm starting to wonder if you really
02:42:14
were in New York on the day Angie was
02:42:16
killed.
02:42:17
>> I didn't kill Angie.
02:42:19
>> Yeah. Then who did?
02:42:21
>> I don't know.
02:42:22
>> Well, tell us what you do know.
02:42:31
Two models said they saw Angie here.
02:42:33
Your relationship with Angie will come
02:42:35
out if we take action.
02:42:40
I scouted her.
02:42:43
As soon as I spotted her picture in
02:42:44
Babe, I went to work. I got her
02:42:47
telephone number from the magazine
02:42:49
editor and I called her up.
02:42:51
She answered the phone and she agreed to
02:42:53
see me.
02:42:56
As soon as I met her,
02:42:59
I just knew that she had it all.
02:43:03
I mean, she had star quality.
02:43:08
I knew Bryce was going to be happy with
02:43:10
my choice.
02:43:12
>> You introduced her to Bryce.
02:43:15
>> BR Company was looking for a new image
02:43:18
model for next year. I thought Angie
02:43:21
Hart would be just perfect for the
02:43:23
image. How did she respond when you
02:43:26
scouted her?
02:43:28
>> She was surprised,
02:43:31
but she was happy.
02:43:34
She said she wanted to sleep on it.
02:43:37
But I had a feeling that we could go for
02:43:39
it.
02:43:42
So, I gave her these.
02:43:45
I sent them to her.
02:43:52
some kind of present, huh?
02:43:56
>> Did Angie accept this?
02:43:59
>> I expected her to.
02:44:02
I mean, it usually worked,
02:44:06
>> but she was different.
02:44:08
>> You forced her to take him anyway.
02:44:14
>> How many times did you see Angie?
02:44:18
>> Twice. That's it.
02:44:21
When was the second time?
02:44:24
>> On the last Friday
02:44:25
>> with Bryce Rich.
02:44:27
You set up that meeting, didn't you?
02:44:30
>> Yes, I did. But that's all I know. I had
02:44:33
nothing else to do with that.
02:44:48
Rich, that son of a [ __ ]
02:44:54
So JB, where are we going next?
02:45:23
Did somebody just pass by?
02:45:30
>> You're full of [ __ ] Rich. What the hell
02:45:33
is this? You guys come here to insult
02:45:35
me? Explain why you didn't tell us she'd
02:45:37
been introduced to Angie Hart by Paige.
02:45:42
>> Julia Foris admitted she lied about your
02:45:44
alibi on the ETH. Stop fooling with us,
02:45:47
Rich. It's not in your best interest.
02:45:50
>> Is that what Julia said, huh?
02:45:53
>> That's so [ __ ] funny.
02:45:56
>> Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sure whatever Julia
02:45:58
says must be the truth. Isn't that
02:46:01
right, Mr. Herald?
02:46:04
Please, gentlemen, sit down.
02:46:12
So, Mr. Harold, who are you with last
02:46:14
night?
02:46:18
>> I suppose Julie would probably say
02:46:20
anything you want her to, wouldn't she?
02:46:23
>> Julie B, what's this [ __ ] talking
02:46:25
about?
02:46:26
>> I mean, you've got some nerve. Letting a
02:46:28
woman involved with this case into your
02:46:30
hotel room
02:46:32
seems like a pretty unprofessional thing
02:46:34
for a cop to do.
02:46:45
>> Where were you from 5 to 8:00 p.m. on
02:46:47
the 8th?
02:46:48
>> I was with a woman.
02:46:50
>> Who?
02:46:52
>> I don't know. I don't remember her name.
02:46:54
It was another one night stand.
02:46:57
You know what I mean?
02:47:05
>> Why did you have your car fixed?
02:47:08
>> I bumped into something in the parking
02:47:09
lot. I thought I told you that.
02:47:11
>> And why did you have your seat
02:47:12
reupholstered?
02:47:15
>> I don't remember.
02:47:24
I assume you know Michael Eert.
02:47:27
>> Who is he?
02:47:28
>> The doctor in charge when you broke your
02:47:30
leg. Rumor has it he borrowed some money
02:47:33
from you.
02:47:35
>> I don't know. Maybe.
02:47:45
>> Why did you say you didn't know her?
02:47:48
>> Didn't want to be involved.
02:47:50
I mean, that girl had the makings of a
02:47:52
fine model, but I had nothing to do with
02:47:55
her death. I mean, first of all, what
02:47:57
would our company have to benefit from
02:47:58
announcing that we were eyeing Angie
02:48:00
Hart to be our new image model?
02:48:03
And you can't blame me for wanting to
02:48:04
cover ourselves from being involved in a
02:48:06
scandal, can you?
02:48:09
>> By whatever means necessary, huh?
02:48:12
>> You're quite right.
02:48:21
The whole story surrounding you stinks.
02:48:23
Too many people related to you are
02:48:25
missing. Your old partner, the doctor,
02:48:27
and the man who has a tape recording of
02:48:29
you threatening a designer to keep
02:48:30
silent.
02:48:32
>> Stop talking nonsense. I can't just pass
02:48:34
over remarks like that. You make me out
02:48:37
to be some sort of a criminal or
02:48:39
something.
02:48:40
You better be careful, Mr. Herald.
02:48:52
You [ __ ] killed Angie, DIDN'T YOU?
02:48:54
YOU [ __ ] KILLED HER.
02:49:03
>> Stupid people like to use muscle.
02:49:11
Don't bother me with your goddamn
02:49:13
investigation unless you have real
02:49:14
evidence.
02:49:16
I'm perfectly clean. If you two keep
02:49:19
sniffing around here, I'm going to have
02:49:21
to take real action.
02:49:22
>> Like what?
02:49:24
Get your buddies at city hall to
02:49:26
pressure the police commissioner into
02:49:28
stonewalling this investigation?
02:49:32
>> You're right. At least you're learning.
02:49:36
If you're truly innocent, don't play
02:49:39
dirty.
02:49:53
>> So, JB, where are we going next?
02:55:50
Hi,
02:55:54
I've been waiting for you. I've done the
02:55:56
analysis of Angie's diary.
02:55:59
Any progress?
02:56:00
>> Hey, who do you think we are?
02:56:03
>> I'm sorry about what happened earlier.
02:56:05
The way I acted. I was too emotional.
02:56:15
So tell me about the results.
02:56:19
>> A mob of sheep were waiting to go
02:56:21
through some wooden gates. Dad and I
02:56:24
helped the sheep so that they could make
02:56:25
it, and I hugged a black sheep tightly.
02:56:30
In this case, sheep means the warm,
02:56:32
good-natured part of Angie. Wooden gate
02:56:36
suggests something that she got over
02:56:37
that was an obstacle to her. And black
02:56:40
sheep means something Angie's denied
02:56:42
from her past.
02:56:43
>> Yeah, well, so what? The [ __ ] still
02:56:45
doesn't make any sense.
02:56:48
>> Mom led a bull into a room where I was,
02:56:51
and it made a dash towards me. I was
02:56:53
furious and climbed up the wall to
02:56:55
protect myself. I didn't hurt. Instead,
02:56:58
I was in the next room full of feast.
02:57:01
>> Hey, I get it. The bull, right? Some
02:57:02
kind of sex fantasy, huh? In this case,
02:57:07
bull suggests her healthy animal
02:57:10
instincts, suggesting that she'll be
02:57:12
stronger. What she says, "The bull
02:57:14
dashed towards me and I was furious."
02:57:16
This represents Angie's state of mind,
02:57:18
that she couldn't control the anger that
02:57:20
was just coming straight out of her.
02:57:23
Climbing up the wall means she wanted to
02:57:25
get away from the feelings that she just
02:57:26
couldn't handle anymore. And feasts
02:57:29
suggest broadening your horizons once
02:57:32
you swallow it and get over yourself.
02:57:36
In short, it seems that Angie was
02:57:39
unwilling to accept something from her
02:57:41
past and it was troubling her all the
02:57:43
time, but she was struggling to make it
02:57:46
through somehow.
02:57:48
>> Are there any hints or suggestions in
02:57:50
the diary as to what her problems were?
02:57:53
>> Well, there was one word used frequently
02:57:55
that did catch my attention. That word
02:57:58
was glass key.
02:58:00
>> What does it mean?
02:58:03
Mom and dad locked the door using a
02:58:05
glass key. I found the key and tried to
02:58:08
put it into the keyhole, but there was
02:58:10
no keyhole. I looked for a door that
02:58:12
matched the key all night long, but
02:58:14
there was no such door. Now, this is
02:58:17
only an example, but if Angie's parents
02:58:20
had something to hide, knowing that
02:58:22
secret would have bothered her like
02:58:23
hell.
02:58:25
I would say it's possible.
02:58:35
Could you tell us about Michael Eert?
02:58:40
>> I really loved him. That's why I married
02:58:43
him,
02:58:44
but we messed up the relationship.
02:58:48
Just remembering him is painful to me.
02:58:52
I haven't met with him since we
02:58:54
divorced. I can't believe he's missing.
02:58:56
Is it true? It looks that way.
02:59:00
>> Michael never talked about work at home,
02:59:02
so I knew nothing about his work.
02:59:05
I can't believe Bryce Rich was one of
02:59:07
his patients.
02:59:09
>> Catherine must have known Michael Eert,
02:59:11
right?
02:59:12
>> Yes. I mean, she met him once at my
02:59:14
wedding. What's Catherine's concern with
02:59:16
Michael?
02:59:18
>> Nothing. Don't worry about it.
02:59:23
>> Okay, I've got to go.
02:59:48
Where too?
03:00:14
Can we talk?
03:00:16
>> Yeah. Come in.
03:00:22
I want to ask you something.
03:00:23
>> What?
03:00:25
>> Everything going all right? Feel like
03:00:26
you're still being watched?
03:00:31
>> Why did you come to my room last night?
03:00:38
>> I've just gotten out of the shower. Let
03:00:40
me get dressed.
03:01:25
Want a drink? No, I'm on duty.
03:01:30
>> I'll have one.
03:01:38
>> The detective you work with,
03:01:40
>> Rosen. You mean?
03:01:43
>> I know him.
03:01:44
>> You met him before?
03:01:50
I wish Steve hadn't existed in my life.
03:01:54
When Steve died,
03:01:58
I felt I could start over again.
03:02:02
I thought I could erase the memory of
03:02:03
him.
03:02:06
You checked things about me, didn't you?
03:02:10
You should know that I was with a slimy
03:02:12
guy who took me for all I was worth.
03:02:14
>> Yeah.
03:02:16
A cop shot him,
03:02:21
[sighs and gasps] but I feel like he's
03:02:23
still alive inside of me.
03:02:26
When I saw that cop,
03:02:30
the memories came back.
03:02:32
>> Rosen has no clue about it.
03:02:38
>> He doesn't know about me and Steve.
03:02:44
>> Steve is a dirt bag.
03:02:46
He was nothing but scum.
03:02:49
I wanted to leave thousands of times.
03:02:54
But I loved him.
03:03:09
Okay, I got it.
03:03:20
Don't drink too much. Okay.
03:03:28
>> Who was it?
03:03:31
>> My only family.
03:03:41
I heard Angie was a big fan of yours.
03:03:44
She brought you flowers, didn't she?
03:03:47
>> I don't know.
03:03:49
I swear I don't remember things like
03:03:51
that.
03:03:59
>> He took advantage of me. When Bryce
03:04:02
couldn't get anything more from me, he
03:04:04
kicked me out.
03:04:09
It's the same with Paige.
03:04:17
>> I heard Angie was a big fan of yours.
03:04:20
She brought you flowers, didn't she?
03:04:23
>> I don't know.
03:04:25
I swear I don't remember things like
03:04:27
that.
03:04:34
I want you to tell me everything you
03:04:36
know.
03:04:39
What are you hiding?
03:04:41
I know you have something to do with
03:04:43
this case.
03:04:47
>> Get out of here.
03:04:49
>> Tell me what's on your mind.
03:04:50
>> Go away. Catherine was trying to break
03:04:53
open memories which shouldn't have been
03:04:54
opened. That's why she was killed.
03:04:56
>> What the hell does that mean?
03:04:58
>> Just leave. Get out of here.
03:05:11
Where too?
03:05:46
Yo,
03:05:48
there you are.
03:05:51
>> What's up?
03:05:53
I got these from the identification unit
03:05:55
after you left. These photos, they were
03:05:58
developed from the roll of film that we
03:06:00
found in Cindy's drawer.
03:06:03
Rich, Melanie, James, Julia.
03:06:08
Hey, it doesn't take a genius to figure
03:06:10
out who took him.
03:06:13
Hey, tomorrow's going to be a big day,
03:06:16
huh?
03:06:42
Where too?
03:07:28
Hello, >> JB. How's it going?
03:07:30
>> Well, apparently this case is related to
03:07:32
a murder case that occurred here in 75.
03:07:35
Mr. Taylor, have you ever heard of Frank
03:07:37
White?
03:07:38
>> Frank White? Yeah, he was Katherine's
03:07:40
uncle. I heard that she became a
03:07:42
detective because of him.
03:07:44
It seems like this background is getting
03:07:46
a little complicated. JB,
03:07:48
>> Mr. Taylor, Katherine seemed to be
03:07:50
investigating the people concerned with
03:07:52
Angie.
03:07:53
>> JB, you have got to clear up this case
03:07:55
with these clues you found.
03:07:57
>> Yes, sir.
03:08:08
JB, my parents are not happy about me
03:08:10
being a detective. I mean, they still
03:08:12
don't like it. I've had the same old
03:08:15
argument over and over and again
03:08:18
yesterday.
03:08:20
My brother was a cop, you know, but he
03:08:24
was killed while on duty, so they're
03:08:26
afraid that might happen to me.
03:08:36
I'm just wondering what they're going to
03:08:37
say when I announce I'm going to be
03:08:39
marrying a detective.
03:09:19
[ __ ]
03:09:23
Godamn.
03:09:25
>> What's wrong?
03:09:26
>> We've been taken OFF THE GODDAMN CASE
03:09:29
>> NOW. JUST >> [ __ ] ASS.
03:09:30
>> Calm down. What's happened?
03:09:32
>> The [ __ ] captain. He tells me we got
03:09:34
24 hours to narrow it down to a key
03:09:36
suspect or else we're off the case. It's
03:09:38
an ORDER FROM THE [ __ ] COMMISSIONER'S
03:09:40
OFFICE.
03:09:42
>> HEY. HEY.
03:09:44
>> Who the [ __ ] do you want, [ __ ]
03:09:47
>> Man, why you dissing me like that?
03:09:49
>> What's up? Have you found your source
03:09:51
yet? >> No, not yet.
03:09:52
>> Yeah, well, what the hell you doing here
03:09:54
then, >> man? You know, you keep sweating me like
03:09:56
this. I'm not going to tell you all
03:09:57
about the sweet surprise I brought down
03:09:59
to you. >> Yeah, well, what is it?
03:10:01
>> Well, I tailed Rich yesterday.
03:10:04
>> Yeah, you tailed him. Oh, that's well
03:10:05
done, Mr. Marlo. Well, somebody's got to
03:10:07
do some investigating around here.
03:10:09
Thought I might find something
03:10:11
interesting.
03:10:19
>> And did you?
03:10:20
>> Yeah, man. Check this out. Rich went up
03:10:23
to the height after work and he met some
03:10:25
middle class suburbia looking guy in the
03:10:27
lobby and they raped for a while. Now,
03:10:29
whatever they was talking about, they
03:10:30
were dead serious. This white dude was
03:10:32
way up in Rich's face, pissed off. I
03:10:35
don't know what it was, but it was
03:10:37
serious.
03:10:38
>> Yeah. Well, who was this guy?
03:10:39
>> I don't know. Some middle class suburbia
03:10:42
looking guy with glasses. Check it out.
03:10:43
>> A man with glasses.
03:10:44
>> Yeah.
03:10:45
>> Sanji Hardo man.
03:10:47
>> What?
03:10:48
You don't know they knew each other?
03:10:50
>> No way, man. This is right out of the
03:10:52
[ __ ] blue.
03:10:53
>> Well, I'll tell you something, man. I
03:10:55
don't think this was their first
03:10:56
rendevu. I think Rich said something
03:10:58
like, "It's been a long time." Or some
03:11:00
[ __ ] like that. Now,
03:11:01
>> this is weird, man. What the hell's
03:11:03
happening here? It's getting all tangled
03:11:05
up in a web, huh? That's why y'all get
03:11:08
the big bucks. So, why don't you uh go
03:11:11
make like cops and investigate?
03:11:22
>> Don't you think it's time we drill them?
03:11:25
>> Yeah, I guess so.
03:11:26
>> All right. Listen, I'm going to go bring
03:11:27
them in. You grill them, you get it out
03:11:30
of them. Okay.
03:12:13
So, have you found out who did it?
03:12:15
>> No, but we're getting very close to
03:12:17
figuring out why Angie was murdered.
03:12:20
>> Mr. Hart, there are a few things I'd
03:12:22
like to ask you.
03:12:23
>> All right.
03:12:28
What is it?
03:12:36
>> I'm informed that you met Mr. Rich of
03:12:38
the BR company yesterday. Correct.
03:12:47
>> It is you, Mr. Hart. What did you meet
03:12:50
Rich for?
03:12:53
The truth is, I found his business card.
03:12:56
It was in the pages of Angie's story
03:12:58
that I was reading.
03:13:00
I don't know. It kind of nagged me. So,
03:13:02
I called the number.
03:13:04
This Mr. Rich, he wanted to meet with
03:13:07
me. So, he suggested we meet at the
03:13:09
height.
03:13:11
Actually, I was surprised to find out he
03:13:12
was scouting Angie as a fashion model.
03:13:15
She never said anything about that to
03:13:17
us. Oh, and he's pretty annoyed at the
03:13:20
police investigation, too. He's got
03:13:22
nothing to do with this.
03:13:26
So, he asked me to keep it a secret.
03:13:28
>> How did you respond?
03:13:32
We had told you there was a possibility
03:13:34
that Bryce Rich did it. I would say it's
03:13:36
rather strange you did him a favor
03:13:38
anyway.
03:13:41
You've known him a long time, haven't
03:13:43
you?
03:13:44
>> No. No. That's ridiculous. I I've never
03:13:46
met the guy before.
03:13:56
What kind of story was Angie writing?
03:14:00
>> I don't know. Nothing particularly
03:14:01
interesting. It was same old story.
03:14:05
>> Did you find anything which might be
03:14:06
related to the case?
03:14:09
>> No, [clears throat] nothing.
03:14:18
>> Mr. Hart, let me ask you something
03:14:21
personal.
03:14:23
Was Angie your real daughter?
03:14:28
The story is you couldn't give blood
03:14:30
when Angie had an accident 10 years ago.
03:14:34
Angie's my daughter.
03:14:36
I don't care if we're not related by
03:14:38
blood. She's my daughter.
03:14:41
>> How did you meet your wife?
03:14:46
I was friends with her brother. I've
03:14:48
known her since childhood. What is her
03:14:51
brother's name?
03:14:54
It's uh
03:15:08
Have you seen this photograph before?
03:15:12
The man in this photograph was a
03:15:14
detective and was killed 17 years ago.
03:15:19
>> I don't know.
03:15:24
>> I have nothing to do with this.
03:15:27
>> I know that's not true. You're hiding
03:15:29
something.
03:15:31
I can't let you go before I get the
03:15:33
truth.
03:15:35
>> Mr. Harold,
03:15:36
my childhood was miserable. You
03:15:39
understand that? My parents were killed
03:15:41
when I was little, but I've been devoted
03:15:43
to my family. See, I've got this dream,
03:15:46
home sweet home, trust, love. But
03:15:49
sometimes, sometimes that reality is
03:15:52
just a little too severe.
03:16:10
Where's my husband?
03:16:12
>> In another room.
03:16:15
Mr. Hart is hiding something.
03:16:18
>> Did he tell you anything?
03:16:22
>> He said he wasn't Angie's real father.
03:16:27
He also said he wanted to be devoted to
03:16:29
his family, but he's sorry it didn't
03:16:31
work out that way.
03:16:36
[snorts]
03:16:38
>> Tell me, Mrs. Hart, who is Angie's
03:16:41
father?
03:16:42
>> Oh my god,
03:16:46
>> James.
03:16:47
Mrs.
03:16:48
>> Hart, can we talk for a while?
03:17:18
This is Angie's diary.
03:17:23
She implied in this diary that you and
03:17:24
James had some secret.
03:17:27
She sensed your secret and was suffering
03:17:29
because of it.
03:17:31
Mrs. Hart, can you tell me what it is?
03:17:46
I assume you've seen this photograph
03:17:48
before.
03:17:50
I found this photograph in Angie's room.
03:17:53
These are you and your husband when the
03:17:55
two of you were younger, right?
03:17:57
Kevin Grady, the man standing between
03:17:59
you, was found dead at Chicago Harbor in
03:18:01
1975.
03:18:03
The detective in charge of the case told
03:18:05
me Kevin had a sister named Maggie. She
03:18:08
vanished before Kevin was found dead.
03:18:12
If if you happen to be that Maggie,
03:18:16
[sighs] >> then your husband is
03:18:18
>> it's
03:18:19
>> Allan Black, right?
03:18:32
Tell me, Mrs. Hart, who in this
03:18:34
photograph is Angie's father?
03:18:40
Angie could have been murdered because
03:18:41
of your former life. Please, Mrs. Hart,
03:18:44
tell me the truth.
03:18:50
>> What is this man's name?
03:18:54
>> Gordon.
03:18:57
>> Gordon Lewis.
03:18:59
>> Did you tell Angie about that?
03:19:04
>> Do you know what happened to this man or
03:19:06
where he is? I don't know
03:19:09
anything.
03:19:18
Why was Kevin Grady killed? Who killed
03:19:21
him?
03:19:25
[sighs] Kevin was
03:19:30
Oh, God.
03:19:34
James
03:19:37
knows everything.
03:19:41
Angie was the victim of our
03:20:33
What do you want from me?
03:20:36
>> I want you to tell me everything you
03:20:37
know about the case.
03:20:50
I found it in your room. It supposedly
03:20:53
belongs to Angie Hart. Can you give me
03:20:56
an explanation for this?
03:20:59
>> I um it's
03:21:02
I don't know.
03:21:04
>> Related to Bryce Rich, huh? What
03:21:07
relation are you to Rich?
03:21:11
You came to my room a couple of days
03:21:13
ago. Rich set it up, too, right?
03:21:20
You said you hate asking people to do
03:21:22
you favors as much as you hate being
03:21:23
asked. Now I know it was a lie. You do
03:21:27
whatever he wants. An obedient little
03:21:30
puppet.
03:21:32
>> No, I'm not.
03:21:33
>> Really? And why do you follow him?
03:21:36
>> I'm on debt. So I just repaid him.
03:21:39
>> What obligation do you have?
03:21:43
>> Soon after I signed with Beauty Vogue, I
03:21:46
was threatened by this guy that Steve
03:21:48
used to hang around with.
03:21:50
I used to do anything if it made a buck.
03:21:54
The guy had a blue movie that I'd done
03:21:56
before, and he threatened me, saying he
03:21:59
could ruin my career as a fashion model.
03:22:03
Bryce settled it for me. I owe my
03:22:06
success to him. I mean, he saved me from
03:22:09
being spoiled by a nasty scandal.
03:22:13
Are you saying you're paying him back by
03:22:16
covering his murder?
03:22:26
one of the dorm and witnessed a woman in
03:22:28
a red dress visiting your room on the
03:22:29
day Angie was killed.
03:22:32
>> Uh, I don't know.
03:22:34
>> Can you explain what the stain is on the
03:22:36
carpet in your room?
03:22:38
>> I spilled coffee.
03:22:40
>> It's not coffee, Julia. You should know
03:22:42
that. It's blood.
03:22:52
Let me go.
03:22:56
Don't leave. I got more things to ask
03:22:59
you.
03:23:16
What do you want now?
03:23:18
>> I'm surprised you came here.
03:23:21
>> Well, my theory is you never turn your
03:23:23
back on the enemy.
03:23:25
>> So, we are your enemies, I presume.
03:23:30
>> It's a figure of speech, you know.
03:23:39
What were you doing last night?
03:23:42
>> I forgot. I think I've already told you.
03:23:44
I'm not interested in the past. I'm
03:23:46
concentrated on the future.
03:23:49
>> What did you talk about with James Hart?
03:23:52
>> I don't know. I forgot.
03:23:54
>> Have you known him long?
03:23:55
>> What?
03:23:56
>> Wasn't the first time you met him, was
03:23:58
it?
03:24:06
I was informed that you lived in Chicago
03:24:08
before. When was that?
03:24:14
>> Have you seen him?
03:24:22
>> What's wrong, Mr. Rich?
03:24:25
>> This is ridiculous. I don't have time
03:24:27
for your shitty little investigation.
03:24:29
I'm leaving
03:24:30
>> because our progress in the
03:24:31
investigation might break open memories
03:24:33
you've kept locked up.
03:24:36
>> I can't let you go before you tell me
03:24:38
the truth.
03:25:03
If you need me to analyze Angie's diary,
03:25:05
I'll take care of that later.
03:25:07
>> No, that's not what I want. I'd like to
03:25:10
ask you about the case. Will you sit
03:25:11
down?
03:25:17
>> I don't understand. What's going on?
03:25:28
What's wrong with those?
03:25:30
>> These were developed from the film that
03:25:31
we found in your drawer.
03:25:34
I want you to explain why you took these
03:25:36
photos. >> I didn't. Catherine gave them to me. The
03:25:39
film was hers.
03:25:40
>> Catherine did. When?
03:25:43
>> Well, let's see.
03:25:54
What?
03:25:56
>> He's the one who introduced Angie to
03:25:57
your clinic.
03:26:00
You met Angie before she was killed. You
03:26:02
knew her, but you didn't tell us that.
03:26:05
And yet you offered us cooperation. I
03:26:07
find it very strange, Cindy.
03:26:17
I found this picture in Angie's room.
03:26:20
This boy named Kevin was killed in 75.
03:26:24
I met the detective in charge and he
03:26:26
told me to review the murder case of
03:26:27
your father.
03:26:30
Your father died in a narcotics
03:26:31
investigation in 75. They found the
03:26:34
presumed asalent, but the truth has been
03:26:37
hushed up.
03:26:38
>> I was only a kid when he was killed. I
03:26:41
don't know anything about it.
03:26:43
Nothing.
03:26:50
>> I'm leaving.
03:26:52
>> Don't.
03:26:54
I want to ask you more.
03:26:56
>> What do you mean?
03:26:58
>> I need your cooperation, Cindy.
03:27:13
Hey, Mr. Herald. Here's that facts from
03:27:14
Mr. Taylor over at Liberty PD.
03:27:17
>> What is it?
03:27:18
>> Things about the case Katherine was
03:27:20
investigating.
03:27:21
>> What? That list of forged birth
03:27:23
certificates, right?
03:27:45
>> [sighs]
03:27:46
>> Can we hurry up and get this thing over
03:27:47
with?
03:27:49
Look, I'm worried about Melanie. I'd
03:27:50
like to get home and take care of her.
03:27:54
>> Your wife was here a while ago.
03:27:58
>> What are you talking about?
03:28:08
Angie was killed with this knife.
03:28:15
Are you sure you've never seen this
03:28:17
knife before?
03:28:29
I don't know.
03:28:38
I I don't know about things like this.
03:28:40
I've got nothing to do with it.
03:28:49
This is you, right?
03:28:52
[sighs] I showed this photograph to your
03:28:54
wife. It's Maggie, Kevin, Jordan, and
03:28:58
you, Mr. Hart.
03:29:02
Your wife told me who Angie's father is.
03:29:06
>> What are you?
03:29:07
>> Angie's father is in this photograph.
03:29:12
She This is ridiculous.
03:29:16
Angie's my daughter.
03:29:28
Do you have any idea why Angie was
03:29:29
murdered?
03:29:32
I presume she was killed because of your
03:29:34
secret. Am I correct?
03:29:45
>> Katherine visited you at your office.
03:29:48
What did she talk to you about?
03:29:51
She uh
03:29:55
what did she see you for?
03:29:58
It was
03:30:08
Mr. Hart. Stop trying to fool us.
03:30:12
We know you're Allan Black.
03:30:15
Katherine White was investigating your
03:30:17
forged birth certificate.
03:30:20
What did you do 17 years ago?
03:30:26
This is my assumption,
03:30:29
but Angie's murder is related to what
03:30:32
you did 17 years ago.
03:30:35
Right.
03:30:40
I've had enough of this crap. I'm out of
03:30:43
here.
03:31:05
I have a session in the evening.
03:31:08
Hurry up and let me out of here.
03:31:17
Angie was killed by this knife.
03:31:27
>> I don't know.
03:31:35
I don't know.
03:31:43
This ornament was found in Angie's bag.
03:31:45
I also found the same thing in your
03:31:47
room.
03:32:01
How How should I know?
03:32:09
Can you explain why this pump was in
03:32:11
your room?
03:32:15
>> It
03:32:25
Angie was in your room on that night.
03:32:29
Did Angie visit you?
03:32:40
You've met Catherine before?
03:32:45
>> I didn't talk to her. I just saw her in
03:32:47
the office. Got it.
03:32:49
>> You said she came to bring back memories
03:32:51
that shouldn't be remembered.
03:32:53
>> What does that mean?
03:32:56
>> That's what Bryce told me.
03:33:12
Who is that?
03:33:15
>> What's happened?
03:33:19
>> Must be serious.
03:33:22
>> That woman came back to
03:33:24
bring memories that I'd locked away.
03:33:27
>> What?
03:33:29
I thought I'd erased everything.
03:33:32
>> What do you mean, Bryce?
03:33:44
>> I'm telling you, Julia, if we search
03:33:46
your room, we'll be able to find out
03:33:47
right away if Angie was killed there.
03:33:50
>> Yeah. So, what
03:33:52
>> did you do it?
03:33:55
>> Maybe.
03:34:04
I was so annoyed when I found out she
03:34:06
was scouted.
03:34:09
I mean, this little girl could
03:34:11
jeopardize my position as top model, you
03:34:13
know?
03:34:14
>> That's weird. You don't seem like you
03:34:16
worry about your career so much.
03:34:21
Why do you defend Bryce?
03:34:24
Is it because of a former life you've
03:34:25
kept hidden just like Bryce?
03:34:28
Stop wasting your time on such a
03:34:29
worthless game. Don't give up on
03:34:31
yourself. You could do better for
03:34:33
yourself.
03:34:36
>> Don't talk like you know everything
03:34:38
about me.
03:34:39
>> You're a slave to your former life, to
03:34:42
your old dead boyfriend.
03:34:45
Why is that?
03:34:48
It was me
03:34:51
who tipped the police about Steve.
03:34:55
Steve wouldn't have been killed if I
03:34:57
hadn't.
03:34:58
>> Don't blame yourself, Julia.
03:35:01
You should be free from your memories.
03:35:09
>> I'm out of here.
03:35:30
Look, I'm under no obligation to stay
03:35:32
here. I mean, let me leave now. If you
03:35:34
want to talk further, contact my
03:35:35
lawyers.
03:35:39
>> Come here, Mr. Rich.
03:35:43
What do you want?
03:35:45
I can't let you go. What are you doing?
03:35:48
Hey, cut it out. What the hell's going
03:35:51
on?
03:35:59
Angie was killed with this knife. The
03:36:02
same is used in the murders of Kevin
03:36:03
Grady and Frank White 17 years ago.
03:36:14
I don't know.
03:36:25
>> What's that [ __ ] stuff?
03:36:27
>> Don't tell me you don't know, Mr. Rich.
03:36:30
You're doing something crooked to
03:36:31
support the financing of the BR company.
03:36:34
Keeping your hands clean, you take
03:36:35
advantage of people who are hard up.
03:36:38
Michael Eber was one of those people,
03:36:41
right?
03:36:51
>> Have you seen this photograph before?
03:36:54
What a coincidence that the man in this
03:36:55
photograph has a birthark the same place
03:36:57
you do. This man's name is Gordon Lewis,
03:37:02
Angie's father.
03:37:13
Does this look familiar to you?
03:37:15
>> No. No [ __ ] way.
03:37:18
>> You had models smuggling dope using
03:37:20
ornaments like this.
03:37:31
I don't know [ __ ] about that.
03:37:40
Angie was killed when she was wearing
03:37:41
these pumps. This one was found in
03:37:44
Julia's room. You should know the reason
03:37:47
why it was there.
03:37:49
>> It was uh
03:37:58
>> I'm informed you saw Angie on the day
03:38:00
she was murdered.
03:38:03
It's been proven.
03:38:06
Paige McShannon said she set up a
03:38:07
meeting on Friday, too. [snorts]
03:38:21
>> Julia witnessed Katherine as she called
03:38:23
on you at your firm.
03:38:25
Well,
03:38:35
Julia Foris confessed about the night of
03:38:37
the eighth. It was you who took Angie's
03:38:40
body to the planetarium, right?
03:38:43
>> You killed Angie, didn't you?
03:38:44
>> No.
03:38:45
>> And you killed Catherine, didn't you?
03:38:47
>> No [ __ ] way. I didn't do that.
03:38:53
>> I'm through with you.
03:39:16
I've told you everything I know. What do
03:39:19
you want from me?
03:39:20
>> I found out what brought Catherine to
03:39:22
Chicago.
03:39:26
The man who presumably killed your
03:39:28
father is listed on this paper.
03:39:37
The asalent stabbed Angie with this
03:39:40
knife.
03:40:20
Why didn't you tell me you'd met Angie?
03:40:33
A woman with blonde hair killed Angie,
03:40:36
but it wasn't Catherine.
03:40:46
Catherine visited the people related to
03:40:48
Angie, but it was another blonde woman
03:40:51
wearing a coat, not Catherine. Catherine
03:40:54
had no motive to kill Angie. There must
03:40:57
be a person who had to or was motivated
03:40:59
to kill Angie.
03:41:01
Now the question is, who was it?
03:41:05
This person killed Angie to make some
03:41:07
people feel sorry for what they had done
03:41:09
in their former lives.
03:41:13
This is my hope that this person would
03:41:16
appear to confess her sin
03:41:18
before I have to go and get her.
03:41:24
>> I don't have to put up with this.
03:41:28
>> Goodbye.
03:41:50
I have a session in the evening.
03:41:53
Hurry up and let me out of here.
03:42:02
I'm telling you, Julia, if we search
03:42:04
your room, we'll be able to find out
03:42:06
right away if Angie was killed there.
03:42:08
>> Yeah. So, what
03:42:10
>> did you do it?
03:42:13
>> Maybe
03:42:23
I was so annoyed when I found out she
03:42:24
was scouted.
03:42:27
I mean, this little girl could
03:42:30
jeopardize my position as top model, you
03:42:32
know?
03:42:33
>> That's weird. You don't seem like you
03:42:35
worry about your career so much.
03:42:40
Why do you defend Bryce?
03:42:42
Is it because of a former life you've
03:42:44
kept hidden, just like Bryce?
03:42:46
Stop wasting your time on such a
03:42:48
worthless game. Don't give up on
03:42:50
yourself. You could do better for
03:42:51
yourself.
03:42:55
Don't talk like you know everything
03:42:57
about me.
03:42:58
>> You're a slave to your former life, to
03:43:01
your old dead boyfriend.
03:43:04
>> Why is that?
03:43:07
>> It was me.
03:43:10
Who tipped the police about Steve?
03:43:14
>> Steve wouldn't have been killed if I
03:43:15
hadn't.
03:43:17
>> Don't blame yourself, Julia.
03:43:20
You should be free from your memories.
03:43:32
You know, so many guys paid attention to
03:43:36
my body,
03:43:38
[sighs]
03:43:39
but none of them were ever serious about
03:43:41
me
03:43:44
or cared about me.
03:43:47
JB,
03:43:50
this is the first time someone's ever
03:43:52
worried about me.
03:43:58
I'm obligated so much to Paige and
03:44:00
Bryce. You know,
03:44:03
they help me make a clean break from
03:44:04
that damn life I was living.
03:44:09
So, they're convinced there's no way I
03:44:12
could ever betray them.
03:44:18
But I can't take it anymore.
03:44:23
I think I should tell you everything.
03:44:30
Beauty Vogue isn't doing as good as it
03:44:31
looks.
03:44:33
Management ran it into a corner.
03:44:36
I mean, we were in a deadlock.
03:44:40
So, paid Jess Bryce to finance.
03:44:45
Bryce agreed on one condition, which was
03:44:47
um
03:44:48
he demanded that Paige help him in his
03:44:52
other business,
03:44:54
smuggling cocaine.
03:44:59
Models were sent to South America to do
03:45:00
sessions and brought back souvenirs
03:45:04
given to them by the local staff.
03:45:08
You know, [sighs] they never dreamed
03:45:10
that cocaine was in the souvenirs.
03:45:14
Paige pulled out the cocaine from the
03:45:16
souvenirs and handed it to Bryce.
03:45:22
Every time a new model was hired,
03:45:25
it was their first assignment.
03:45:31
Take it with you if you like.
03:45:34
>> You can have it.
03:45:37
[laughter]
03:45:40
>> Look, Angie.
03:45:42
You have got to realize how lucky you
03:45:45
are. It's all up to you. It's not
03:45:48
everybody who gets a big chance like
03:45:50
this. You know what I mean?
03:45:54
Now, the president, Bryce Rich, he said
03:45:57
that you have something very special
03:45:59
that inspires him a lot. Now, Mr. Rich
03:46:03
is a wonderful man.
03:46:06
I'm sure that you'll make up your mind
03:46:08
after you meet him. Oh, that reminds me.
03:46:11
I've got to see him soon.
03:46:14
Why don't you come with me, Angie?
03:46:16
>> Really? All right, Angie. Let's do it.
03:46:20
[laughter]
03:46:22
>> This is for you. Something to remember
03:46:25
me by.
03:46:27
You'll love it.
03:46:32
[laughter]
03:46:33
I knew Paige had her eye on Angie.
03:46:37
I mean, I knew it was almost time for
03:46:40
her to start hunting for a new model to
03:46:42
replace me.
03:46:46
It was such an irony. It was the girl
03:46:48
that gave me the flowers. You know,
03:46:56
Bryce asked me to let the girl stay over
03:46:58
at my room on the ETH.
03:47:01
I didn't ask why,
03:47:04
cuz it wasn't unusual for him to poke
03:47:06
model wannabes.
03:47:08
And he never hesitated to ask me to do
03:47:10
stuff like that.
03:47:21
>> Excuse me, but Mr. Rich told me to wait
03:47:23
here.
03:47:24
>> Oh, it's you.
03:47:37
I'm going to be a model.
03:47:39
>> Well, it's a lot harder than it looks.
03:47:41
You're not interested in a high
03:47:42
education or what?
03:47:45
>> I want to be independent from my
03:47:47
parents.
03:47:48
>> I see.
03:47:50
Everybody has your motive.
03:47:53
>> Yeah.
03:48:02
Hello.
03:48:06
It was my father,
03:48:11
begging me for some money as usual.
03:48:16
I went down to the back door to meet
03:48:18
him, leaving Angie in the room.
03:48:38
When I returned to the room later,
03:48:41
the door was open
03:48:45
and that girl was
03:48:48
lying there.
03:48:52
She was dead.
03:49:11
I didn't know what to do.
03:49:16
I got a call from Bryce and I told him
03:49:18
what happened.
03:49:20
He came by right away.
03:49:24
He was shocked when he saw she was dead
03:49:31
and he just
03:49:35
stood there.
03:49:38
He couldn't move.
03:49:42
And then
03:49:45
he started sobbing.
03:49:48
I couldn't believe it.
03:49:50
That man was crying.
03:49:54
The man who looked like he had no tears
03:49:57
in his body cried.
03:50:02
I couldn't say anything to him.
03:50:08
And then he muttered something.
03:50:18
>> That woman,
03:50:21
she came back to open up a box of
03:50:23
memories.
03:50:29
I helped him carry her body to the car.
03:50:34
Bryce took it to somewhere.
03:50:38
I cleaned the blood stain on the carpet,
03:50:42
but I couldn't get it off.
03:50:47
And then I realized
03:50:51
there was the red pump next to the bed.
03:50:58
That's all I know.
03:51:02
That's it.
03:51:06
The next thing was that detective
03:51:08
Catherine was killed, which led you and
03:51:11
Rosen to the case.
03:51:16
That's all I know.
03:51:43
Mr. Hart, stop trying to fool us.
03:51:47
We know you're Allan Black.
03:51:50
Katherine White was investigating your
03:51:52
forged birth certificate.
03:51:55
What did you do 17 years ago?
03:52:01
This is my assumption,
03:52:04
but Angie's murder is related to what
03:52:06
you did 17 years ago,
03:52:10
right?
03:52:21
Angie was a victim of our former lives.
03:52:27
You're right. My My real name is Alan
03:52:30
Black
03:52:32
and I killed the detective Frank White
03:52:35
03:52:41
Melanie was a friend of mine and we
03:52:44
called her Maggie back then.
03:52:49
17 years ago, me and Gordon and
03:52:53
Kevin and Maggie,
03:52:55
Kevin's sister,
03:52:58
We were all, you know, just street
03:52:59
punks. We we hung out together.
03:53:04
I don't know. We were we were looking to
03:53:06
make some money, some way to get off the
03:53:08
streets, you know.
03:53:12
I don't know. Gordon hit on this
03:53:14
windfall. He
03:53:16
his story was that he uh he had smuggled
03:53:18
in some cocaine into the country and
03:53:21
sold it to the mob.
03:53:24
It sounded like easy money, you know,
03:53:27
and [sighs] uh
03:53:31
well, we swallowed the whole story.
03:53:36
And then uh about that time,
03:53:41
this middle-aged man showed up.
03:53:46
That was Frank White.
03:53:49
>> [ __ ] that guy was a [ __ ] cop, that
03:53:51
bastard.
03:53:52
So, what do you want to do about it?
03:53:53
>> Hey, it was you that took this guy to
03:53:55
the mob. You know, if anybody sniffs out
03:53:57
that we brought a goddamn undercover
03:53:58
cop, they're going to rub us out, too.
03:54:04
>> What's wrong, guys?
03:54:05
>> Oh, God.
03:54:14
Gordon uh he asked the mob people to get
03:54:16
rid of the dead body of Frank White,
03:54:21
but that wasn't the end of it.
03:54:26
>> Maggie, what the hell happened? [snorts]
03:54:29
>> Gordon shot Kevin with that cop's gun.
03:54:35
I begged him to stop it. He was He was
03:54:38
[snorts] trying to split with the coke.
03:54:42
God, he was stupid. But Gordon shot him.
03:54:47
Oh my god, he killed my brother.
03:54:53
>> You know, we got to take this money and
03:54:54
get the hell out of Chicago. Otherwise,
03:54:56
we're going to end up like Kevin.
03:54:58
>> And what do we do when we leave here?
03:55:00
Play hideand-seek with the cops for the
03:55:02
rest of our lives.
03:55:03
>> No, no, no. We forget everything. We
03:55:05
dump the past. Make a new start.
03:55:10
I'm going to make it come back to
03:55:12
Chicago someday.
03:55:16
>> Gordon,
03:55:20
>> I left Chicago with Maggie and uh we hit
03:55:23
New York.
03:55:25
We got some false birth certificates and
03:55:27
and we were reborn, you know, James and
03:55:29
Melanie.
03:55:32
Less than a year later, Angie was born.
03:55:35
[clears throat]
03:55:38
where we lived in New York for a while
03:55:40
and finally we had to move back to
03:55:43
Chicago cuz Maggie's mom got sick
03:55:46
and and we had to take care of her, you
03:55:48
know.
03:55:51
[sighs]
03:55:53
Oh god, we were so scared.
03:55:57
[sighs and gasps]
03:55:58
We were afraid somebody was going to
03:56:00
link us to the murders, you know,
03:56:06
but uh Chicago just let us live our new
03:56:10
lives
03:56:12
and I started believing that, you know,
03:56:13
we could put all of this behind us and
03:56:15
and maybe start over again.
03:56:22
I don't know. I had a new family,
03:56:24
a wife, a beautiful baby girl. It was
03:56:27
everything I wanted.
03:56:33
But then I felt something inside of me
03:56:34
just die
03:56:37
when I found out that
03:56:40
and she wasn't my real daughter.
03:56:45
Melanie never told me a thing about it,
03:56:50
but it occurred to me that, you know,
03:56:52
Angie's real father must have been
03:56:54
Gordon.
03:56:58
After that, Mel and I,
03:57:02
we couldn't work it out. We we never got
03:57:04
along anymore.
03:57:07
And whenever I would see Angie,
03:57:12
I remembered everything that happened.
03:57:17
It was like I had this sin, you know,
03:57:19
just locked up inside of me. I couldn't
03:57:22
forget.
03:57:25
[snorts]
03:57:26
Oh, I tried not to let Angie notice, but
03:57:31
she could see right through the lies.
03:57:36
[sighs and gasps] >> Angie, I'm I'm
03:57:37
>> You know, why don't you JUST BEAT THE
03:57:39
[ __ ] OUT OF ME? COME ON, HIT ME MORE. I
03:57:42
know you hate me. What are you [snorts]
03:57:44
saying?
03:57:46
Don't you know I'm worried about you?
03:57:49
My god, you've been acting crazy these
03:57:51
past few days.
03:57:53
[sighs and gasps] Won't you please just
03:57:55
listen to me?
03:57:56
>> No. You're a liar.
03:57:59
>> What are you talking about?
03:58:00
>> You hate me.
03:58:03
>> God, Angie, this is nonsense.
03:58:06
How could you think that I hate you?
03:58:08
>> I can tell when I look in your eyes.
03:58:10
Okay. You hate me,
03:58:13
>> Angie.
03:58:18
I couldn't say a word to her.
03:58:24
And that day, the day Angie was killed,
03:58:28
the woman appeared.
03:58:35
>> Oh. Uh, how can I help you?
03:58:37
>> Hello, Mr. James Hart.
03:58:39
>> Yes. Uh-huh. And your other name is
03:58:42
>> what?
03:58:43
>> Alan Black, right?
03:58:46
>> Wait a minute. Who are you? Don't wait.
03:58:53
She knew my former life. Everything that
03:58:55
happened 17 years ago.
03:58:59
And she [clears throat] went and saw Melanie, too. Not only me.
03:59:08
>> Yes.
03:59:09
Can I help you with something?
03:59:11
>> Maggie. So now you're Maggie.
03:59:14
Finally, I've got you. It's been a long
03:59:16
way to come. I've been looking for you.
03:59:23
That night, Angie didn't come home.
03:59:27
And when I heard that a woman named
03:59:29
Katherine White might have killed her,
03:59:34
it struck me that, you know, that was
03:59:36
the woman that came to see me.
03:59:41
And I felt like Angie's death was like a
03:59:45
punishment for what I had done 17 years
03:59:47
ago.
03:59:52
Mr. Harold, the story that Angie was
03:59:55
writing, it was like this mirror to her
03:59:57
mind. [sighs]
04:00:00
It was about a girl who
04:00:03
was killed by her father.
04:00:09
She was suffering knowing that uh
04:00:12
[sighs] her father had committed this
04:00:13
crime in the past. And well, she tried
04:00:16
to help him, but
04:00:19
he killed her just to shut her up.
04:00:25
There was no way Angie knew about the
04:00:27
case,
04:00:29
but I felt like she was reading my mind,
04:00:31
you know?
04:00:35
I was shocked
04:00:38
reading it because
04:00:41
it was my fault.
04:00:44
What happened to Angie was my fault?
04:00:49
[gasps and sighs]
04:01:07
Look, I'm under no obligation to stay
04:01:08
here. I mean, let me leave now. If you
04:01:11
want to talk further, contact my
04:01:12
lawyers.
04:01:21
Julia Foris confessed about the night of
04:01:23
the eighth. It was you who took Angie's
04:01:26
body to the planetarium, right?
04:01:29
You killed Angie, didn't you?
04:01:30
>> No.
04:01:31
>> And you killed Catherine, didn't you?
04:01:33
>> No [ __ ] way. I didn't do that.
04:01:39
>> Yes. I took Angie's body to the
04:01:42
planetarium.
04:01:44
She said she liked the place. You know,
04:01:47
I've never wondered about my way. I
04:01:49
mean, never had any doubt about it.
04:01:53
But with her, I mean, I couldn't be
04:01:55
perfectly practical. I mean, there were
04:01:57
feelings,
04:01:59
some kind of an attachment.
04:02:02
[snorts]
04:02:04
I left those feelings there with the
04:02:07
yellow rose.
04:02:10
You know, you are the perfect image for
04:02:11
my company.
04:02:13
Have you made up your mind?
04:02:17
>> I don't know.
04:02:19
I'm wondering if maybe you came to the
04:02:21
wrong person.
04:02:24
You've got star potential.
04:02:27
It's going to be okay. You are going to
04:02:30
be a big hit. Have you told your parents
04:02:32
about this opportunity?
04:02:36
It's okay. Paige will take care of
04:02:38
everything. And I'm sure your parents
04:02:40
won't mind having their daughter being a
04:02:42
huge
04:02:44
success.
04:02:50
>> Flowers are pretty.
04:02:53
>> [sighs]
04:02:54
>> Yellow roses
04:02:56
reminds me of something.
04:03:00
First girl I was in love with.
04:03:09
I am so I must be a little bit nervous.
04:03:14
So I don't even know your name.
04:03:18
>> Angie.
04:03:19
Angie Hart. [laughter]
04:03:23
Angie,
04:03:24
it's a great name.
04:03:29
>> Well, let me sleep on it, please, and
04:03:32
I'll let you know on Monday.
04:03:34
>> Monday? Okay. I'll pick you up at 5:00.
04:03:38
Where should we meet?
04:03:41
>> How about in front of the planetarium?
04:03:44
>> Planetarium?
04:03:45
>> Yeah. I've loved that place since I was
04:03:48
little.
04:03:51
I used to like to look at the stars when
04:03:52
I was a little kid, too.
04:03:57
I've got this for you.
04:04:00
I think it'll fit. I'd like to see you
04:04:02
with this dress on the next time I see
04:04:04
you.
04:04:06
>> Okay.
04:04:07
[sighs]
04:04:08
Oh,
04:04:11
>> I mean, Angie is the perfect image for
04:04:13
my new brand. I mean, she really
04:04:16
inspired me a lot. I mean, and it felt
04:04:18
like any inspiration that I had
04:04:20
previously was lost. And I and I had the
04:04:22
feeling that she could bring out my full
04:04:25
potential.
04:04:31
And I'd never felt that way before. You
04:04:33
know,
04:04:35
it was something.
04:04:37
But I had no way of knowing that she was
04:04:39
my daughter
04:04:41
till that woman came to see me.
04:04:46
Well, you don't have an appointment,
04:04:48
but I would heartily invite a beauty
04:04:51
like you into my office anytime. So, why
04:04:54
don't we get started?
04:04:56
>> Where are you from originally?
04:04:59
>> Connecticut.
04:05:00
>> Hartford, correct?
04:05:03
>> Look, if you already know all the
04:05:04
answers to these questions, why don't we
04:05:06
just skip to something more exciting?
04:05:09
>> Do you remember a man named Gordon
04:05:11
Lewis?
04:05:12
>> Oh, come on. I don't know what you're
04:05:13
talking about.
04:05:15
>> You took a trip to California in the
04:05:16
summer of 76.
04:05:19
>> I don't remember.
04:05:21
>> Gordon Lewis was in California about the
04:05:23
same time as you.
04:05:26
Obituary column.
04:05:29
Bryce Rich, 20 years old. According to
04:05:33
this article, you were killed in a car
04:05:35
accident in California in 77.
04:05:41
>> Who are you?
04:05:43
someone who knows who you really are.
04:05:48
>> Your true name is Gordon Lewis.
04:05:51
>> I don't know what the hell you're
04:05:52
talking about, and I certainly don't
04:05:53
know anything about any [ __ ] like that.
04:05:56
>> You think you have completely made up
04:05:57
your new life, don't you? But you can't
04:05:59
just dump your former life.
04:06:04
You know what?
04:06:06
You've got a daughter. Her name's Angie
04:06:09
Hart. The child of yourself and Maggie.
04:06:14
>> What?
04:06:17
>> I've made up my mind.
04:06:19
>> Great, Angie. I love it. So, what did
04:06:24
your parents say?
04:06:26
>> This is my life. I'm the one who makes
04:06:28
the decisions. They have no control over
04:06:30
me. I don't want to go home.
04:06:34
I don't want to live with them anymore.
04:06:38
I mean, I was supposed to cut off my
04:06:39
former life, get what I wanted.
04:06:45
I mean, I never thought that I'd regret
04:06:46
it.
04:06:51
But when I saw Angie,
04:06:54
what that woman said came back to haunt
04:06:56
me.
04:07:00
You just can't dump your former life.
04:07:05
Just stop. Please
04:07:06
>> put it back, Kevin. It belongs to all of
04:07:09
us. >> Stop, Kevin. I mean, please put it back.
04:07:12
>> Don't worry, Maggie. He doesn't have the
04:07:15
nerve to shoot me. He's just chicken
04:07:16
[ __ ]
04:07:22
I >> mean, I did anything to survive.
04:07:26
Nothing's ever bothered me as long as I
04:07:28
got what I wanted. And I trusted nobody.
04:07:34
I wanted to win my success at all costs.
04:07:38
No matter who cursed me or who hated me
04:07:40
or how badly anybody got hurt, I didn't
04:07:43
care.
04:07:46
Seeing Angie
04:07:49
brought back memories that I thought I'd
04:07:51
locked away.
04:07:54
I mean, Angie was killed for doing
04:07:56
nothing.
04:07:59
She was a kid.
04:08:03
So yeah,
04:08:05
I brought her body to the planetarium
04:08:08
in my car.
04:08:23
My life
04:08:25
is nothing but lies,
04:08:27
corruption.
04:08:31
I mean, my own daughter shed blood.
04:08:37
My wrongdoing can't be amended.
04:08:41
That woman,
04:08:43
she came to tell me how sinful I was.
04:09:11
Catherine visited the people related to
04:09:13
Angie, but it was another blonde woman
04:09:16
wearing a coat, not Catherine.
04:09:18
Catherine had no motive to kill Angie.
04:09:21
There must be a person who had to or was
04:09:24
motivated to kill Angie.
04:09:26
Now the question is who was it?
04:09:30
This person killed Angie to make some
04:09:32
people feel sorry for what they had done
04:09:34
in their former lives.
04:09:38
This is my hope that this person would
04:09:41
appear to confess her sin
04:09:43
before I have to go and get her.
04:10:02
Relax. You can tell me everything that's
04:10:04
on your mind. Really, don't worry. You
04:10:07
can count on me. I'm on your side. I've
04:10:10
known Mr. Rivers for quite some time.
04:10:12
He's mentioned you several times to me.
04:10:16
So tell me, why do you think you weren't
04:10:17
supposed to be born?
04:10:19
>> Because my mom and dad aren't happy
04:10:21
because of me.
04:10:22
>> Why not?
04:10:24
>> Because I'm not his daughter.
04:10:27
>> Who says such things? Maybe you're the
04:10:29
only one who thinks this.
04:10:32
>> Mom told me that this is my real father.
04:10:37
Who were you raised by?
04:10:39
>> James Hart.
04:10:45
Hello.
04:10:46
>> Hello.
04:10:47
>> Hi, Catherine. What's up?
04:10:49
>> I didn't I traced this guy, Alan Black.
04:10:52
I found him here in Chicago.
04:10:54
>> Alan Black,
04:10:56
>> a man who was arrested for swindling,
04:10:57
confessed that he'd been involved in
04:10:59
forgery. This man has forged birth
04:11:01
certific.
04:11:24
>> Help me, Cindy.
04:11:25
>> Jesus. Michael, what's going on?
04:11:26
>> Here, take this bag.
04:11:29
Tell me what's going on.
04:11:30
>> I [ __ ] UP. SOMEONE'S AFTER ME.
04:11:32
>> FOR WHAT?
04:11:33
>> If I die, you go to the police with that
04:11:35
bag. This man, this man trapped me.
04:11:41
That's not BRYCE RICH. IT'S A FAKE. HE'S
04:11:44
HAD PLASTIC SURGERY. GOD, I'M STUPID.
04:11:47
I'm sorry if I've caused you problems.
04:11:50
Forgive me.
04:11:54
I'll call you.
04:12:00
Frank should have known better.
04:12:03
Feel stupid to do a sting operation by
04:12:05
himself.
04:12:06
>> He was doing okay in the beginning. I
04:12:08
guess it looked like he was getting
04:12:10
close to penetrating the mob.
04:12:12
>> He underrated those punks.
04:12:14
This was a cop and in a whack.
04:12:18
>> You mean those punks in the picture?
04:12:23
>> Daddy J is nothing but a dummy.
04:12:43
Now we better call in Cindy.
04:12:51
Homicide
04:12:55
>> is for you. It's Cindy.
04:13:03
>> Cindy,
04:13:05
>> I've got to see you. You come here?
04:13:09
>> I'll be there.
04:13:14
>> I'll be right back.
04:13:16
>> Hey, where you going?
04:13:18
Hey, what about me? Ain't I going with
04:13:20
you? Stay here and be good.
04:13:44
Catherine
04:13:47
>> JB,
04:13:50
you should have known better. Revenge is
04:13:53
the stupidest thing you can do.
04:13:56
Please, Cindy, you must listen to me.
04:14:02
That's what Catherine said.
04:14:06
I was only 12 years old when my father
04:14:08
died.
04:14:09
He was an old-fashioned man. I mean a
04:14:13
very poor speaker and a stubborn man.
04:14:18
You know that kind of person.
04:14:21
He thought about nothing but his job. He
04:14:24
wouldn't mind staying away from us day
04:14:26
in and day out for the sake of his
04:14:27
investigations.
04:14:30
He came home once in a while, but he
04:14:32
didn't spend much [music] time with us.
04:14:36
But I liked him anyway.
04:14:39
I still remember its big shoulders and
04:14:41
its strong hands.
04:14:44
I used to sit around with my mom and
04:14:46
wait for him to come home after settling
04:14:48
a case.
04:14:51
I just couldn't believe it when he died.
04:14:54
I mean, when they placed him in that
04:14:55
coffin and buried him under the ground,
04:14:57
I realized it was the godamn reality.
04:15:01
I couldn't stop crying.
04:15:06
My mother told me what a respectful
04:15:08
detective he was. She said, "Dad is our
04:15:11
pride. We must always remember how much
04:15:14
we love him."
04:15:22
One month after his funeral, some
04:15:24
newspaper made a comment that my father
04:15:26
took his investigation [music]
04:15:27
too far.
04:15:29
>> So, what you're saying is that your son
04:15:30
was killed by the detectives. Is that
04:15:32
about right? Yes, absolutely. That
04:15:35
detective used my son [music] for his
04:15:37
investigation. He pressured him into
04:15:39
smuggling drugs. My Kevin, my Kevin
04:15:42
[music] was such a good boy. He would
04:15:44
never ever get involved in such a nasty
04:15:48
mess as this. And I'm telling you, he
04:15:50
was a victim of this investigation.
04:15:51
[music]
04:15:52
And this detective put him up to
04:15:54
committing the crime. He didn't give a
04:15:57
damn what happened to Kevin. He was a
04:15:59
bastard.
04:16:01
He was the last person that should have
04:16:03
been described like that. The newspapers
04:16:05
just jumped on it [music] because it was
04:16:06
somewhat scandalous.
04:16:09
They leaned more towards Kevin's
04:16:10
mother's point of view and criticized
04:16:12
Frank's investigation.
04:16:14
My father's boss was a wimp. He did
04:16:17
nothing to clear [music] my father's
04:16:18
name cuz he was afraid he might be
04:16:20
blamed, too.
04:16:22
At the same time, my mother was slowly
04:16:24
losing her mind. She woke me up many
04:16:28
times in the middle [music] of the night
04:16:29
saying she couldn't sleep.
04:16:31
She also started saying odd things like,
04:16:33
"Frank hasn't come home yet. I couldn't
04:16:36
help but just cry, holding her there."
04:16:40
She just couldn't take it anymore. Not
04:16:43
just his death, but him being reproached
04:16:45
across the nation.
04:16:48
Several years after my father's [music]
04:16:49
case had been forgotten, she died.
04:16:56
She had a severe nervous breakdown
04:16:58
[music] and killed herself. I was 17.
04:17:03
Just like my father was killed, she
04:17:05
stabbed herself in the chest with a
04:17:07
knife.
04:17:10
She left nothing for me, but the
04:17:13
frustration that we could never clear my
04:17:16
father's disgrace [music]
04:17:17
and a blood stained knife.
04:17:22
After she died, I went to college.
04:17:24
supported by Catherine's father. I
04:17:27
wanted to help people who had problems
04:17:29
that they couldn't handle on their own.
04:17:32
Just like my mother,
04:17:35
there was no hope for myself.
04:17:38
I couldn't just throw away the hate I
04:17:40
had inside me.
04:17:48
Cindy, how could you [music] have done
04:17:49
such a horrible thing? It's too stupid.
04:17:53
Cindy, why?
04:17:56
I found the blood stained knife and the
04:17:57
[music] cocaine in your room. You should
04:17:59
have known better. Revenge is the
04:18:01
stupidest thing you could have done.
04:18:03
Cindy, you've got to listen to me.
04:18:12
JB, you were right. I did it.
04:18:29
Heat.
04:18:38
[music]
04:18:48
Heat.
04:18:53

04:19:35

04:19:44

04:19:56
[music]
04:19:57
Heat
04:20:08
up
04:20:11
here.
04:20:15
[music]
04:20:34

Description:

A playthrough of Riverhill Soft's 1995 murder mystery/detective game for the Pioneer LaserActive w/Mega-LD PAC, J.B. Harold: Blue Chicago Blues. The J.B. Harold series originally kicked off in 1986 on Japanese PCs with Murder Club, which was first published in English for Dos PCs in 1989, and is perhaps best known by its 1991 remake for the TurboGrafx-CD (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jRyUNZSzi4%29. Murder Club's direct sequel, Manhattan Requiem, was released in English in 1993 as an LD-ROM² title for the Pioneer LaserActive. Blue Chicago Blues was the fifth and final entry in the J.B. Harold series, and it was the third (and final) one to be officially released in English. Like Manhattan Requiem, the North American release of Blue Chicago Blues was a LaserActive exclusive, though it was made available in both Mega-LD and LD-ROM² formats. If you aren't familiar, the Pioneer LaserActive was a Laserdisc player that could be turned into a *very* premium game console by installing one of two modules ("PACs") in its expansion bay. NEC's LD-ROM² PAC enabled support for TurboGrafx games on HuCards, CDs, and LD-ROM² formatted LaserDiscs. Sega's Mega-LD PAC supported games for the Genesis, Sega CD, and the Mega-LD LaserDisc format. When the hardware debuted in 1993, the LaserActive deck retailed for $970 USD, game PACs sold for $600 each, and LaserDisc-based games went for $100 a pop. Just think, with the $1700 (appx. $3800 in 2025 money) you'd have spent on a LaserActive, a PAC, and a game, you could've had two NeoGeo AES Gold systems, or a used car! Then again, it was not a product catering to the working class market, and its price tag positioned it as a high-end piece of A/V equipment, not a game console. Riverhill Soft went all out in ensuring that Blue Chicago Blues made the most of the LD format. The game comes on a dual-layer, double-sided disc that holds nearly four hours worth of high-quality video. The game follows the same format as the older games - someone has been murdered, and JB has to solve the case by finding clues and interrogating suspects - but the shift to FMV makes it feel more like a television drama than the older games that stick to text prompts and voiceovers. The scope of the world and the story were reined in to accommodate space limitations, and the challenge has been dialed way back, but it's pretty engaging throughout. The writing is cheesy and the quality of the acting ranges from decent to laughably awful, but the production values are extraordinarily high for a game of its time, and I had a blast seeing the mystery through to the end. If you want to play it yourself, this is easily the best version of the game, and it runs perfectly on Ares (a multi-system emulator). The console and PC ports replaced the majority of the FMV clips with digitized stills and voiceovers, and the IOS remake is limited to cheap-looking drawings and walls of text. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
