00:00:00
i'm not sure if the red tide's too bad i
00:00:02
kind of feel it
00:00:07
dabbing based on your public profession
00:00:09
of faith
00:00:10
welcome to my life welcome to my life
00:00:12
yeah
00:00:14
on the bright side yeah this music here
00:00:17
became my only lifeline think i'm going
00:00:20
crazy i'm not in my right mind
00:00:23
welcome to my life welcome to my life
00:00:25
yeah
00:00:26
[Music]
00:00:29
welcome to my life welcome to my life
00:00:32
here
00:00:33
well today
00:00:34
is the day
00:00:36
it's a little bittersweet but this
00:00:38
chapter is coming to an end today is it
00:00:40
today is my last
00:00:42
day at first baptist of venice
00:00:46
uh it could very well be my last day as
00:00:49
a
00:00:50
youth pastor
00:00:52
at least an official youth pastor
00:00:55
i'll always do
00:00:56
ministry i believe we as believers as
00:01:00
followers of christ are all called to
00:01:03
constantly do ministry full-time
00:01:05
ministry now doing it as a vocation like
00:01:08
i was doing it before on church staff
00:01:12
i'm not 100 sure what the future holds
00:01:14
but that is not in the immediate future
00:01:18
uh it's going to be more personal
00:01:19
ministry i'm going to continue doing my
00:01:22
podcast the truth for youth i'm going to
00:01:25
continue um ministry through
00:01:29
our family through vlogs through
00:01:33
business and entrepreneurship with grid
00:01:35
army uh and we'll see we'll see what the
00:01:38
what the rest of the future holds so
00:01:41
um
00:01:43
mixed feelings today you know very
00:01:44
blessed for these last eight years
00:01:47
uh thankful that guy was able to use me
00:01:49
in a little way
00:01:51
and
00:01:52
the lives that i've gotten to pour into
00:01:54
and the lives that have
00:01:56
poured into me and it's been a mutual
00:01:59
ministry that's the way youth pastoring
00:02:01
goes i mean
00:02:03
yes i i pastor administer to students
00:02:06
and to their families but
00:02:08
in a lot of ways it's a ministry to me
00:02:11
it helps me i i grow in my faith and
00:02:14
and learn things so
00:02:16
it's been good
00:02:17
you know there's obviously a lot of
00:02:19
struggles and a lot of
00:02:20
headaches
00:02:22
and frustrations over these past eight
00:02:25
years
00:02:26
huh it's been been a challenge
00:02:30
but you know what god has
00:02:32
has taught me a lot of patience and
00:02:33
perseverance and
00:02:36
i know it'll prepare me for the next
00:02:37
chapter of life
00:02:39
so let's get the day going
00:02:41
they're doing a little farewell
00:02:43
gathering reception for me after the
00:02:45
second service today so
00:02:48
i i don't know what to expect but
00:02:50
we'll wrap up today and then tonight
00:02:52
i'll do one more thing with the youth
00:02:54
although i was wanting to do a baptism
00:02:56
service out at the beach but
00:02:59
red tide is a little bit of an issue
00:03:00
right now
00:03:01
as well as like that 80 chance of rain
00:03:04
so that may not happen tonight
00:03:07
i'll keep you posted as i'm wrapping up
00:03:09
my last day at first baptist
00:03:12
obviously mixed feelings
00:03:14
uh being in this youth room so many
00:03:17
memories over
00:03:19
the eight plus years here
00:03:23
man so many students
00:03:26
so many activities
00:03:29
so many games and crowd breakers so many
00:03:32
messages spent teaching slash preaching
00:03:36
from the stage
00:03:37
looking out over
00:03:39
all the students
00:03:41
over the years preaching from this very
00:03:43
spot just seeing all the different faces
00:03:46
from the eight years
00:03:47
sitting in those chairs sitting in those
00:03:49
couches
00:03:51
running the sound booth and the screens
00:03:53
back there so many games of pool
00:03:56
and foosball and ping pong
00:03:59
and xbox
00:04:02
countless pizzas been served out of that
00:04:04
window
00:04:05
and popcorn
00:04:07
and
00:04:08
i don't know how many pancakes i've made
00:04:11
over the years
00:04:13
served on sunday mornings so many of my
00:04:16
own meals i have eaten in this kitchen
00:04:19
i'd use this to keep all my food so i
00:04:22
would just come over here and fix my own
00:04:23
lunches even dinners on wednesday night
00:04:26
before students got here it's been a
00:04:28
good ride to all you students out there
00:04:30
former youth that were part of the real
00:04:33
life student ministry here
00:04:35
thank you for those years of support
00:04:37
thank you
00:04:38
for
00:04:39
allowing me to be here and be your youth
00:04:41
pastor and to have fun and i hope you
00:04:44
always feel like you can reach out to me
00:04:46
um just because i'm moving on doesn't
00:04:49
mean that i wouldn't still care for you
00:04:52
guys and love you guys so stay in touch
00:04:54
of course you better subscribe to the to
00:04:56
the youtube channel and as always keep
00:04:58
listening to the podcast the truth for
00:05:00
youth with micah murphy podcast on
00:05:03
itunes and spotify it's also on youtube
00:05:05
if you want to watch it on youtube but
00:05:07
thank you and um time to say goodbye in
00:05:10
here
00:05:20
all right the reception's over uh got a
00:05:22
little emotional in there a little bit
00:05:23
of a tearjerker with uh just the support
00:05:26
from several of the people the church
00:05:27
members
00:05:28
um and just reminiscing about all the
00:05:30
various memories and and the things that
00:05:32
have happened during these eight years
00:05:34
of ministry
00:05:35
um anyways it's like i said before it's
00:05:38
very bittersweet you know i'm very
00:05:39
excited about the next phase
00:05:41
but yet
00:05:42
it's difficult you know saying those
00:05:44
goodbyes and and just having those kind
00:05:46
words that were said
00:05:47
from some of the people that supported
00:05:49
me and my family over the years so let's
00:05:52
say goodbye to the office i uh
00:05:55
i cleaned it all out not all you still
00:05:57
got some
00:05:58
looks a little different than before
00:06:02
yeah all these books i'm leaving some of
00:06:05
our seminary books some of them are just
00:06:06
resources some of them are
00:06:09
just personal books some are for
00:06:11
discipleship some way the master some
00:06:15
various bible study disciple now stuff
00:06:18
some cds a lot of seminary stuff
00:06:22
the old desk is cleaned off christmas
00:06:24
decoration
00:06:27
it's time to say goodbye
00:06:30
all right we're out here at the beach we
00:06:31
got red tide
00:06:34
as i cough doesn't really smell bad but
00:06:37
if you've ever experienced red tide it
00:06:39
kind of gets down in your respiratory
00:06:41
system
00:06:42
kind of makes you cough a little bit
00:06:44
sometimes really bad so we're coming out
00:06:47
here to test it out because i really
00:06:48
want to meet with the youth out here
00:06:49
really want to baptize some students
00:06:51
want to baptize colin and gavin and my
00:06:54
niece callie but i'm not sure if the red
00:06:57
tide's too bad so we're out here we're
00:06:59
going to check it out again i kind of
00:07:01
feel it
00:07:02
kind of feel it a little bit but we're
00:07:04
going to try to make this happen
00:07:09
first of all i just want to say thank
00:07:11
you for just the support over the years
00:07:13
of
00:07:15
just the ministry or the coming to youth
00:07:17
group even if you only came one or two
00:07:20
times and still i appreciate it for
00:07:22
those that have been here longer um it's
00:07:24
been it's been good you know we've we've
00:07:26
been here as a family
00:07:27
part of first baptist for a little over
00:07:29
eight years and
00:07:31
you know i've seen god do some some
00:07:32
pretty neat stuff
00:07:34
as far as what what the future holds for
00:07:36
for me and my family it's not a hundred
00:07:38
percent sure so we can't really say
00:07:40
exactly what that looks like but so
00:07:43
we're kind of you know in that
00:07:45
transition state and just really
00:07:46
depending on god and seeing what he's
00:07:49
gonna do and of course it's always
00:07:50
bittersweet it's always tough to say
00:07:53
goodbye even if it's just saying goodbye
00:07:54
at a location it's just never easy thank
00:07:57
you guys and i hope you all still feel
00:07:59
like you can stay in communication with
00:08:01
me regardless if i'm down the street or
00:08:03
a million miles away but
00:08:05
you know i'm still doing the podcast
00:08:06
every week i was still gonna do that uh
00:08:09
we obviously have the youtube channel
00:08:10
the family vlogs stay connected with me
00:08:13
text me if you ever have questions or
00:08:14
need anything i'm always still available
00:08:16
i still
00:08:17
care i still want to help so don't ever
00:08:19
feel like you're bothering me or
00:08:21
hindering me and it just so happens it
00:08:23
comes from the book of micah it's micah
00:08:26
6 8.
00:08:27
and i i actually told the story that i
00:08:30
honestly didn't even know what that
00:08:32
passage was
00:08:33
but when i was an auburn cheerleader
00:08:35
with lois and we were at camp at the
00:08:37
university of alabama and one of the uca
00:08:40
instructors when he found out my name
00:08:42
was micah he said
00:08:44
like at fixate it's one of my favorite
00:08:45
passages and i was like
00:08:48
i'm a christian my name is micah but i
00:08:50
have no clue what that is
00:08:52
and uh he told me and he kind of made me
00:08:54
memorize it so i'm there at camp and
00:08:57
which is not a christian camp at all but
00:08:59
he wanted me to memorize that and i
00:09:01
learned it and over the years you know
00:09:02
i've kind of grabbed on to it and i'm
00:09:05
going to share that with you in kind of
00:09:06
the context of what that actually means
00:09:09
but this is the passage it says the lord
00:09:11
has told you human what is good
00:09:14
he has told you what he wants from you
00:09:18
to do what is right to other people to
00:09:20
love being kind to others
00:09:23
and to live humbly
00:09:24
obeying your god
00:09:27
now when he was telling the israelites
00:09:29
this was like an agreement so it's like
00:09:30
hey if you do this i do that the guy was
00:09:33
saying look if you will uphold these
00:09:35
things
00:09:36
and i'm your only god then i'm going to
00:09:38
put my hand a protection on you i'm
00:09:40
going to bless you i'm going to protect
00:09:41
you from other things and then we see
00:09:43
throughout the old testament
00:09:46
they get away from that right and bad
00:09:47
things happen to them and then they get
00:09:49
back in good graces with god and they go
00:09:51
back again it's this cycle over and over
00:09:53
and this is one of those times when
00:09:55
they're like
00:09:56
far from god and they've been conquered
00:09:58
and they're like what do we do and and
00:10:01
so mike as a prophet he says look
00:10:03
god's already told you what to do
00:10:06
you know quit being dumb you know and
00:10:08
just listen to what god's trying to tell
00:10:10
you and uh and they're like should we do
00:10:13
sacrifices to get god's blessing on us
00:10:15
you know we he's
00:10:25
you know sometimes we talk a good game
00:10:27
and we say we're going to treat people
00:10:29
fairly but we really don't throw our
00:10:30
actions
00:10:31
so he says you know what treat people
00:10:33
right
00:10:34
and then he says
00:10:35
you know you love mercy
00:10:38
you know if you're a karate kid and
00:10:40
cobra kai fan
00:10:41
you know you have the cobra tie dojo and
00:10:43
they're all about mercies for the weak
00:10:46
right no mercy
00:10:48
but god and as christians we're supposed
00:10:49
to love mercy we're supposed to show
00:10:51
mercy god has shown us mercy
00:10:53
and we too are supposed to pass that on
00:10:55
and show mercy to others
00:10:57
and then to walk humbly with god that
00:11:00
just means you know what you're trying
00:11:01
to live
00:11:02
like god wants you to live you're just
00:11:04
being obedient to him and god says you
00:11:07
know what
00:11:08
if you're living that way then i'm gonna
00:11:10
i'm gonna bless you you know what acts
00:11:12
justly treat people fairly love mercy
00:11:15
and walk humbly with god you know that's
00:11:17
what that's what jesus wants if we're
00:11:19
going to be a follower him
00:11:22
okay so let's get to this baptism thing
00:11:24
now i just want to go over this because
00:11:25
i want everybody to to understand
00:11:27
baptism
00:11:29
baptism does not save you okay
00:11:32
just because you say i want to get
00:11:34
baptized and i get dunked under water
00:11:36
doesn't mean you're automatically going
00:11:37
to heaven okay what baptism is it's a
00:11:40
symbol
00:11:41
it is you saying i want to
00:11:43
symbolize i want to tell others that i
00:11:46
have decided to follow jesus
00:11:49
and this is my public profession of
00:11:51
faith now now jesus he doesn't demand it
00:11:54
he doesn't say you have to be baptized
00:11:55
in order to you know get to heaven one
00:11:57
day but he does say i want you to be
00:11:59
baptized i want you as an act of
00:12:01
obedience to do that because it's
00:12:03
symbolic and if you think about what
00:12:05
baptism is it's going under water and
00:12:08
coming back up and you think what does
00:12:10
water do hopefully we all take baths and
00:12:12
showers
00:12:14
so we think of water as a cleansing okay
00:12:16
it cleanses you so a lot of times if
00:12:18
you're dirty water will cleanse that and
00:12:21
then if you think about going underwater
00:12:23
now some people baptize different ways
00:12:26
but but as a baptist i believe in the
00:12:28
submersion going underwater and that's a
00:12:31
symbol of how jesus died right when he
00:12:34
died he was buried
00:12:36
and then when he came back he raised
00:12:38
from the dead so that's kind of a symbol
00:12:40
of the baptism it's you dying to
00:12:43
yourself you dying to the old way
00:12:45
your old self is gone you're you're
00:12:48
being buried and then when you come back
00:12:50
you are now a new it says you're a new
00:12:52
creation you are a new
00:12:54
person because you are now a follower of
00:12:56
christ and god's got a new plan and a
00:12:59
new purpose for you
00:13:01
so i just want you to understand it is
00:13:02
simply a symbol
00:13:04
right
00:13:05
it's a great symbol and i i encourage
00:13:07
everyone to do it if you claim to be a
00:13:08
follower of christ
00:13:10
but just because you're baptized does
00:13:12
not make you saved okay i just want to
00:13:14
make sure everybody's clear on that
00:13:16
um i know today we have several i want
00:13:18
to be baptized my actually my middle my
00:13:21
youngest they've never been baptized
00:13:22
they've wanted to and we've talked about
00:13:24
it
00:13:25
and uh so they're gonna do that today as
00:13:27
well my niece callie is gonna get
00:13:29
baptized as well and then we have
00:13:31
charlotte her sister and david they're
00:13:33
all gonna get baptized as well right
00:13:35
awesome so what we'll do is we'll just
00:13:37
kind of do it one at a time
00:13:38
and uh and what i'm gonna ask you the
00:13:41
first question i ask is
00:13:43
is jesus christ the lord of your life
00:13:46
and then you just
00:13:47
say yes if that's the case okay if not
00:13:50
let's talk some more
00:13:51
um
00:13:52
we'll say yes and that's your that is
00:13:54
your public profession and then i'll
00:13:55
just kind of walk you through it i'll
00:13:57
baptize you
00:13:59
um under the water
00:14:00
now if you have an issue with water
00:14:03
going up your nose or maybe if you don't
00:14:04
it's probably a good idea
00:14:06
cross your just cross your arms and then
00:14:09
you just kind of hold your nose okay
00:14:11
because when you go back that'll keep
00:14:12
water from going up your nose it'll be
00:14:14
quick boom
00:14:15
get your head underwater and then we'll
00:14:16
come right back up your mouth closed
