Description:

A playthrough of Capcom's 1990 action game for the NES, Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight. Contrary to what the title implies, Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight has nothing to do with Street Fighter or Final Fight. It's neither a fighting game nor a beat em up, and only in the English version is the hero named Ken. In this sci-fi themed platformer, you play as Ken, an over-the-hill street fighter turned cyborg scientist. Ken is fighting to avenge the death of his partner Troy, who was left "as a pile of jelly on the floor" by the people who broke into their lab and stole their research. There are nineteen stages set across five planets, and the goal in each is to kill the designated target and collect enough energy to open the warp dimension portal that leads to the next area. The game places a heavy focus on boss battles, and the action is split between two primary modes. In the first, you take on waves of baddies in confined arenas. In the second, you have to fight them as you're being pushed through auto-scrolling platforming gauntlets. The stages are short, but their creative visual designs and tight construction give them a lot of impact, and the game strikes a really nice balance with its pacing in how it jumps between the two modes. It's loaded with tense action sequences, but it knows when to back off and give you a moment to breathe, and you'll quickly come to appreciate those brief reprieves. Street Fighter 2010 is an unapologetically demanding game. The controls take some time to get the hang of - Ken has a ton of moves at his disposal, and the game immediately throws you into the deep end - but once you've finally cottoned onto to the flow of combat and mastered the first stage, you'll be set to take on the rest. It's consistently difficult throughout, but it gets easier with experience, and the unlimited continues are a real boon when you find yourself being stonewalled by a new boss's attack patterns. Street Fighter 2010 is a hardcore action game that makes no concessions for beginner and casual players, but I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a steep but fair challenge. It's a quality game. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
