00:00:10
Since the release of my video on the Philosophy of Kreia,
00:00:13
several people have mentioned in the comment sections
00:00:16
that the Grey Jedi are superior to the Jedi and SIth.
00:00:19
I forgot to talk about them and, by doing so,
00:00:22
it might have been seen as glorifying the Grey Jedi indirectly.
00:00:26
Some have even expressed the idea that a balance between the light and the dark
00:00:31
could be achieved as a way of ending the perpetual wars
00:00:34
between the Jedi and the Sith.
00:00:36
While seeking an alternative between the Jedi and Sith
00:00:39
touches on one aspect of Kreia's philosophy,
00:00:41
the concept of the Grey Jedi and balance
00:00:44
holds many misconceptions that people have of the Force.
00:00:48
This might seem like a general misunderstanding
00:00:51
but it is an issue that strikes at the core of Star Wars.
00:00:55
In the style of Flash Gordon,
00:00:56
which Lucas wanted to adapt but could not get the rights,
00:01:00
Star Wars is episodic.
00:01:02
We are brought directly in the middle of an overarching story
00:01:05
without being told the history of neither the setting
00:01:07
nor the relationship between factions.
00:01:10
Take the original Star Wars movie,
00:01:13
What do we know of the Rebels?
00:01:14
What do we know of the Empire?
00:01:16
What did they stand for?
00:01:17
It's never made clear.
00:01:19
The audience is never given context (Admiral Tarkin, I'm C.I.A)
00:01:21
to the inner workings of the galaxy (Admiral Tarkin, I'm C.I.A)
00:01:24
but by being episodic stretchered over large periods of time,
00:01:28
subsequent materials by other mediums,
00:01:30
from books to comics and games were used to fill out the gap
00:01:33
and flesh out Star Wars.
00:01:36
The prequel movies further expanded the backstory,
00:01:38
leading to the original movies,
00:01:40
describing the fall of the Jedi the rise of the Sith,
00:01:43
and the Republic becoming an Empire.
00:01:46
But no matter how much of the lore is expanded upon,
00:01:48
we are never given insight to the inner structure of Star Wars.
00:01:53
None of the characters openly theorize about the structures
00:01:56
of their own setting.
00:01:58
This disconnect allows for fans of Star Wars
00:02:00
to interpret the movies by themselves.
00:02:03
However, despite nothing being spelled out to the audience,
00:02:07
there are some noticeable thematic patterns.
00:02:10
The original Star Wars movie lays the foundation
00:02:13
of the duality that would become its bedrock.
00:02:16
After the opening crawl,
00:02:18
the iconic shot of a small rebel ship,
00:02:20
fleeing the large reach of an imperial ship,
00:02:23
immediately displays the struggle
00:02:25
of the underdog fighting the dominant power.
00:02:27
We are never told what are the goals of either side
00:02:30
but the audience can infer that both are seeking dominance over the galaxy.
00:02:35
By its first fight scene, Imperial Troops are shown to be in uniform,
00:02:39
hiding their face and humanity,
00:02:41
while the Rebels show fear.
00:02:44
This portrays the Empire as being inhuman
00:02:47
and the Rebels as humane.
00:02:49
The opening scene of Vader just in black
00:02:52
meeting Princess Leia, dressed in white,
00:02:55
reinforces this duality that will become important later.
00:02:59
From these moments, using cultural signifiers,
00:03:02
the dichotomy of Star Wars being a story
00:03:04
about good versus evil is formed.
00:03:07
The most present as that of technology versus nature.
00:03:11
The Empire is shown to put its faith on technology
00:03:14
and sneer at the mystical concept of the Force.
00:03:53
Bythe end of the movie,
00:03:54
during the run to destroy the Death Star,
00:03:57
Obi-Wan tells Luke to not rely on technology.
00:04:23
While it might seem that a duality between technology and nature is a weak foundation,
00:04:28
it is in fact the basis of the dichotomy between the Sith and the Jedi
00:04:32
and is found in all human culture.
00:04:34
Nietzsche observed two opposed forces in a constant struggle.
00:04:38
He identified it as the Apollonian Dionysian dichotomy.
00:04:42
It is the fundamental conflict in all human existence.
00:04:46
The concept of Apollo
00:04:48
the Greek god of light, knowledge, art,
00:04:51
ruling over the realm of the self conscious,
00:04:53
relates the idea of individuality.
00:04:56
The concept of Dionysus,
00:04:57
the Greek god of wine ecstasy and madness,
00:05:01
ruling over the realm of the subconscious
00:05:03
relates the idea of losing the self into a collective.
00:05:07
The essence of the duality is this:
00:05:09
Apollo represents human civilization,
00:05:12
striving to overcome nature
00:05:14
and Dionysus represents the unknown elements of nature,
00:05:18
striving to undermine humanity's illusion of control.
00:05:22
Everything relating to art reflects and tries to resolve this
00:05:25
human dilemma of order versus energy.
00:05:28
And, equally, it is representative of the Sith and the Jedi.
00:05:33
Pure selfishness by using the Force for one's gain
00:05:36
and pure selflessness by being in tune with the Force.
00:05:40
The struggle between the Jedi and Sith,
00:05:42
despite being small in number compared to the rest of the people in the Star Wars galaxy,
00:05:46
is the focus of the entire franchise.
00:05:49
In the final battle of Return of the Jedi,
00:05:51
there are three main conflict:
00:05:53
on Endor, with Han and Leia trying to destroy the shield generator,
00:05:56
in space, with Lando and the rebels fighting the Empire
00:05:59
and on the Death Star, with Luke fighting Vader.
00:06:02
The battle on Endor influences the outcome in space
00:06:05
but interestingly, the fight between Luke and Vader does not influence anything
00:06:10
yet it is the main thematic drive.
00:06:12
Realistically, it should not be of any importance
00:06:15
as it is the Rebels that destroyed the Death Star
00:06:17
but spiritually, the fight between Luke not falling to the Dark Side
00:06:21
and Vader regaining his humanity is the main thematic core.
00:06:25
It is as though the outside events do not matter
00:06:28
because they REALLY do not matter.
00:06:30
The Empire, the Republic, other alien races,
00:06:33
they are ALL irrelevant backdrops.
00:06:36
The central conflict between the Jedi and Sith is the only thing that matters.
00:06:41
This is echoed in the Phantom Menace
00:06:43
with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon fighting Darth Maul
00:06:45
while the Gungan army fights the droid army,
00:06:48
Padme sneaks in to capture the Viceroy,
00:06:50
and Anakin spins in space.
00:06:53
All these battles determine the outcome of the invasion
00:06:56
but the duel between the Jedi and Sith is still the main thematic core
00:07:00
and is disconnected from the rest.
00:07:02
This is further reinforced in Revenge of the Sith
00:07:05
with the entirety of the Clone Wars being a manufactured war by Palpatine
00:07:09
to destroy the Jedi after converting Anakin to the Dark Side.
00:07:13
This is beautifully shown with Yoda and Sidious,
00:07:16
fighting in the middle of the Senate for the fate of the galaxy.
00:07:20
However, you might have noticed a contradiction,
00:07:23
if the Sith or Apollonian and are meant to represent order and stability,
00:07:27
why did they constantly destroy themselves?
00:07:30
The answer can be found in the other unique element of Star Wars:
00:07:34
the Force.
00:07:49
When Lucas wrote Star Wars, he wanted to introduce the concept of God
00:07:53
and noted that it could be reduced from a single karmatic concept:
00:07:57
an unknowable entity that manipulates causality.
00:08:18
The Force has a will that gives everyone a destiny
00:08:21
and, by that definition, could be considered our God
00:08:24
yet no one refers or worships it as such.
00:08:37
To be strong in the Force is similar to having providence from God.
00:08:44
Compared to other mythologies,
00:08:46
what is unique with the Force is that it does not 'speak' directly with anyone.
00:08:51
There is no flaming bush or physical manifestation of the Force.
00:08:55
By their own volition, everyone must accept their destiny
00:08:59
but interpret the consequences.
00:09:01
Even Anakin, the literal (dis)embodiment of Jesus in Star Wars
00:09:05
must make his own choices.
00:09:07
There are two ways the Force can be used as a magical power:
00:09:10
by suppressing the ego and emotions to be in to move the Force and using it as an ally
00:09:16
or by enforcing the ego and emotions to draw out the Force and using it as a tool.
00:09:22
The manner in which the Jedi and Sith use the Force is the key to this puzzle.
00:09:27
Being Apollonian, the Sith are individualist, meant to be rigid and emotionless like a rock. (Yes I know Sith are emotional, the point is that they become that way due to their desire for power. That's why the Force switches sides)
00:09:34
But by drawing power from the Force, for selfish gains, they become Dionysian mad with power; emotional. (Yes I know Sith are emotional, the point is that they become that way due to their desire for power. That's why the Force switches sides)
00:09:42
Similarly being Dionysian, Jedi are collectivist, meant to be fluid and emotional like a river.
00:09:49
But by suppressing their ego to be in tune with the Force,
00:09:52
they become rigid and unable to change.
00:09:55
the Jedi and Sith flip sides, becoming hollow to obtain power.
00:10:01
This reversal is echoed in how the Jedi and Sith dichotomy was formed.
00:10:06
I mentioned this observation in my Kreia video.
00:11:36
In the first Knights of the Old Republic game,
00:11:39
the ghost of the old Sith Lord Ajunta Pall echoes this origin.
00:12:23
This split is the result of a civil war known as the Hundred-Year Darkness.
00:12:29
Some might argue that it came from the Expanded Universe lore
00:12:32
but it was referenced in the comic Star Wars showdown on smugglers moon making it canon.
00:12:39
This reversal of Master-Slave morality depicts the master morality of the Sith as evil
00:12:45
and the Slave Morality of the Jedi as good
00:12:49
but only because there is no alternative due to the existence of the Force.
00:12:54
Either you teach the ways of the Jedi of becoming selfless
00:12:58
or they become agents of evil that bring ruin to the galaxy.
00:13:02
This is why the Jedi take children that are Force sensitive
00:13:05
at a young age from their parents to teach them the ways of the Jedi of only being selfless.
00:13:11
It is done to make sure that Jedi never enact their emotions or from connections with others.
00:13:16
The only connections Jedi form is with their masters and fellow Jedi.
00:13:21
This is why, during Order 66, as all the Jedi in the galaxy were being killed,
00:13:26
Yoda could feel their death because he trained them.
00:13:30
Similarly an outburst of emotions can be seen by Obi-Wan in the Phantom Menace when his master died.
00:13:49
If anyone were allowed to form connections with others
00:13:52
it would lead people to be greedy and fear losing them.
00:13:55
When someone acts selfish, darker emotions such as fear anger hatred passion aggression
00:14:01
it all becomes an addiction, like a drug, amplified by the Force.
00:14:06
They begin to walk the Dark Side path desiring, more power until they completely lose their humanity.
00:14:13
Because of this, the Jedi created a system where all conflict must be avoided
00:14:18
and suppressing emotions is an absolute to make sure no one EVER falls to the Dark Side.
00:14:25
This creates a system of extremes by necessity.
00:14:29
Although this explanation of the reversal of the Apollonian-Dionysian may seem unique,
00:14:34
over the years, the feeling that both the Jedi and Sith are nihilistic has been felt subconsciously by many
00:14:41
even if they could not express why.
00:14:44
What people are revolting against is this endless cycle of destruction
00:14:48
caused by both sides being hollow extremes,
00:14:51
hiding behind a romanticism of good winning over evil.
00:14:55
Rogue One shows this truth in its purest form with everyone continuously dying.
00:15:02
Some argue that good and evil does not exist
00:15:05
but the truth is that both the Jedi and Sith extremes are inhuman and thus an alternative is preferable.
00:15:12
Because of this. many people desire a middle ground;
00:15:15
something 'grey'
00:15:17
that were not completely fall to the dark side but without suppressing emotions.
00:15:22
Something... 'human'.
00:15:24
This brings us to the concept of the Grey Jedi.
00:15:32
(Mission represents most Star Wars fans that like the Grey Jedi: ignorant children that know nothing.)
00:15:39
The term originated to describe the actions of Qui-gon Jin in the Phantom Menace.
00:15:44
Although the audience had never seen how the Jedi operated before the original trilogy,
00:15:50
Qui-Gon' s actions seemed... weird.
00:15:53
He would act aloof, use mind tricks to get what he wanted and leave everything to ''random'' chance.
00:15:59
What set him apart from the rest of the Jedi was this mention by Obi-Wan:
00:16:23
In the second Knights of the Old Republic game,
00:16:25
there is a Grey Jedi robe with a description of the Grey Jedi.
00:16:29
It reads:
00:16:33
(I'm not going to subtitle this, it's on the damn screen, read it there)
00:16:43
It's an adequate description.
00:16:45
However, the true underlying meaning of a Grey Jedi
00:16:49
is that they're Humane Jedi that have not become entirely Zen
00:16:52
yet have not also fallen to the temptations of the Dark Side by enacting their passions.
00:16:59
So... if the Grey Jedi are a better alternative to the typical Jedi/Sith extremes
00:17:04
should it not be further promoted?
00:17:06
The answer is that because of the corrupting nature of the Force (when used selfishly, known as the Dark Side)
00:17:10
and the inherent selfishness of humanity (the self is the primary standard by which we value existence and use nature to survive ),
00:17:12
it is a *worse* alternative.
00:17:14
What categorizes a Grey Jedi -- more than simply disagreeing with the Jedi Council -- is that
00:17:20
they still maintain connections beyond those in the Jedi Order.
00:17:23
But by being more humane in having connections,
00:17:26
it makes a person more susceptible to fall to the Dark Side.
00:17:30
This is echoed many times in the Star Wars Canon.
00:17:34
Kyle Katarn, a prominent Grey Jedi, nearly fell to the dark side
00:17:38
after his girlfriend was murdered and sought revenge.
00:17:42
And in Return of the Jedi, Vader used the knowledge of Luke's connection with his sister
00:17:46
to draw him out to the Dark Side.
00:18:20
noo
00:18:22
In my Kreia video,
00:18:23
I mentioned that in the Expanded Universe, Luke had created a new Jedi order that was similar but new.
00:18:30
I implied that by doing so, Luke had stopped a Dark Side and the Sith from returning,
00:18:35
but that is not entirely the case.
00:18:38
Due to the small amount of Jedi left in the galaxy,
00:18:41
Luke readily trained any Force-Sensitives that he could find and train them in the ways of the Jedi.
00:18:47
However, Luke did not train younglings...
00:18:49
he trained adults.
00:18:52
By already having connections with their parents, or other people throughout their life,
00:18:56
the type of Jedi Luke trained were Grey Jedi.
00:19:00
Within a few years after Return of the Jedi
00:19:03
many fell to the Dark Side, and within a few generations,
00:19:06
the Sith returned, and the Jedi Order was destroyed during the third Jedi purge.
00:19:12
The cycle... never... ended.
00:19:15
The same thing happened in the new Disney movie canon.
00:19:40
Yet despite these repeated failures,
00:19:42
people still demand for the Grey Jedi to become canon as a way to save the galaxy.
00:19:47
A noted example that many bring up is the character Bendu
00:19:51
from the TV show Star Wars Rebels.
00:20:10
But there is a problem,
00:20:12
there's no such thing as the 'light side' of the Force.
00:20:15
The 'light side' is simply a shorthand for enlightenment (en-light-ment, get it?)
00:20:19
becoming Zen; losing your ego to be in tune with the Force.
00:20:23
As previously mentioned, the Jedi and Sith represent the Apollonian-Dionysian dichotomy which
00:20:30
is similar to the popular concept of the yin-yang.
00:20:33
However, this form of duality does NOT work in Star Wars
00:20:37
because of the existence of the Force.
00:20:40
The Star Wars universe is heavily inspired by Manichaean philosophy.
00:20:44
Specifically, the Manichaean view of evil.
00:20:48
According to this view, good and evil are opposite forces in the world
00:20:52
and good must triumph by opposing evil in order to eradicate it.
00:20:57
In a Star Wars universe, the Force always makes the 'good' side win by destroying
00:21:02
those that used the Dark Side of the Force and returning everything to the status quo.
00:21:06
This is known as 'Bringing Balance to the Force'.
00:21:10
However, the concept of Balance has been largely misunderstood
00:21:14
by the Star Wars audience for two reasons.
00:21:17
Firstly, the word itself (Balance) brings about confusion.
00:21:21
When you think of 'balance', you imagine equilibrium or equality.
00:21:25
Secondly, people have been confused as to what the prophecy was meant to entail as it was
00:21:31
never revealed directly in the movies.
00:21:58
Some have misinterpreted the concept of balance by looking at the outcome of Revenge of the Sith
00:22:04
rather than the entirety of the Star Wars movies.
00:22:07
After Order 66, only two Jedi remained; Obi-Wan and Yoda.
00:22:12
And only to Sith remained; Vader and Sidious.
00:22:17
But no... The numbers on both sides is irrelevant.
00:22:20
Obi-wan clearly explains what Balance was meant to happen.
00:22:24
(Note: the prophecy was NOT misinterpreted, it simply did not happen in the roundabout way the Jedi thought it would)
00:22:50
Destroying theJedi and joining the Sith did not invalidate or change the prophecy.
00:22:56
And by the end of Return of the Jedi,
00:22:58
Anakin fulfilled the prophecy by destroying the Sith and bringing Balance to the Force.
00:23:04
This is shown thematically as well
00:23:06
with the Ewoks, representing nature, destroying the Empire, representing technology.
00:23:13
Lucas even confirms this in the Revenge of the Sith commentary.
00:23:17
(Note: Obi-Wan and Lucas explain what Balance was meant to happen. If you place your own theorizes over what of characters and the creator say, then you are wrong. What you believe is irrelevant.)
00:23:42
Getting rid of the Sith and the Dark Side = Bringing Balance to the Force!!!
00:23:47
This misunderstanding of Balance can even be found by those that contribute to the lore of Star Wars.
00:23:53
One such example is from the CG TV show clone wars with the Mortis arc.
00:24:16
(Note: Father keeping balance of his children ≠ controlling the Force and the Dark Side of the Force.)
00:24:25
The arc is fueled general misconception of both the Force and of 'balance'.
00:24:30
The father believes Anakin to be the Chosen One and to bring balance to the Force.
00:24:36
(Note: he is talking about his children, not of the Force itself.)
00:25:01
However he believes that 'balancing' means to control his children (and then Star Wars audience thought it meant) metaphorically balancing the Light and a Dark side of the Force
00:25:10
(And yes, I do know about Lucas being involved with the arc, however, it does not invalidate the fact that the Father thought that Bringing Balance to the Force somehow meant controlling his children instead of destroying the Sith and the Dark Side)
00:25:17
Contrary to the popular view that the Daughter and Son represent the yin-yang,
00:25:21
this depiction *slightly* inaccurate.
00:25:25
What is interesting is that, traditionally,
00:25:27
the negative Dark One, the yin, represents the feminine
00:25:31
and the positive light. the yang represents the masculine.
00:25:35
The colours associated to the genders of the Son and the Daughter
00:25:39
are reversed!
00:25:41
Intentional or not, it echos the switch of the Apollonian-Dionysian in the Star Wars universe.
00:25:48
But of course, the Son and the Daughter are not actual
00:25:52
manifestations of the Light and the Dark side.
00:25:55
They are simply Force wielders.
00:25:58
So it can be brushed off that the Father misunderstood what bringing balance to the force actually meant.
00:26:04
(Though they do represent very well the reversal of the Apollonian-Dionysian)
00:26:10
And this misconception of a duality of the Force
00:26:13
and a possibility of a balance between the two of them
00:26:16
may be spilling in the last Jedi movie.
00:26:19
(Thankfully, the movie did not advocate this misconception of balance. Watch my video on The Last Jedi to see how the movie reflects the Grey Jedi and Balance)
00:26:40
Whether Luke advocates that balance is a coexistence between the light and a dark
00:26:45
or retains a traditional view that good will triumph over evil remains to be seen.
00:26:51
There are rumors that Luke will detail the origins of the Jedi this is
00:26:56
concerning because there are two possible origins the traditional one was
00:27:01
the Jedi being the original thesis on morality in Star Wars created after the
00:27:06
invention of hyperspace technology was discovered
00:27:08
and the one from the comic Dawn of the Jedi.
00:27:11
it is very worrisome because the comic
00:27:13
tries to changed the structure of Star Wars by showing a proto Jedi Order
00:27:18
called the 'Jee'dai' that existed thousands of years before the discovery of hyperspace technology.
00:27:25
The comic itself is very bad but is remembered specifically because it advocates for
00:27:30
'balance' between the light and the dark.
00:27:33
The Jee'dai were officially retconned destroying themselves before the
00:27:37
discovery of hyperspace technology and the birth of the Jedi Order.
00:27:42
It should be remembered that there is no third way of using the Force.
00:27:48
So if 'balance' is incorrect, as there is only the Force and a Dark Side of the Force,
00:27:53
what does the Bendu mean when it says to be in the middle?
00:28:06
Kreia provides the answer.
00:28:18
The middle is not a third source of power from the Force but apathy
00:28:23
and THAT is the ultimate failure of the Grey Jedi.
00:28:28
Some eventually come to understand the problems of the Jedi and Sith, see the extremes, like the audience,
00:28:34
but refuse to do anything to stop the perpetual wars.
00:28:39
They are cowards!
00:29:09
This applies equally with Jolee Bindo.
00:29:12
He saw the problems of the Jedi, saw their blindness and what did he do?
00:29:16
Nothing...
00:29:18
He ran away like a coward
00:30:19
The Grey Jedi have their fun, maintain connections with others
00:30:22
but when push comes to shove and they see that the Jedi are inhuman
00:30:26
and unwilling to change, they exile themselves and blind themselves to all of life.
00:32:11
In the second Knights of the Old Republic game,
00:32:13
each Jedi Master represents an abstract criticism of the Jedi Order.
00:32:36
Vrook represents the arrogance and foresight of the Jedi Masters; always knowing what's best
00:32:41
but is blind to the effects it has on the galaxy and those living in it.
00:32:54
Kavar represents the fighting spirit of the Jedi Order; naive and always ready for a good fight (He's also very patriotic to the Republic for no reason)
00:33:00
but is blind to what such teachings accomplish in war (He's also very patriotic to the Republic for no reason)
00:33:13
And Zez-Kei-Ell, the Grey Jedi that saw the failures of the Jedi, was ready to leave the Jedi Order,
00:33:19
but was unwilling to give up his connection to the Force to live a normal life.
00:33:37
This is the criticism that Kreia had of Force wielders in the Star Wars universe:
00:33:42
they are unable and unwilling to let go of power.
00:33:47
It is the source of the perpetual wars between the Jedi and Sith,
00:33:51
causing millions of death every generation.
00:33:55
(If it's not obvious, Kreia is blaming the Jedi for letting students fall to the Dark Side, causing endless wars)
00:34:23
(without the Force, all you see... is nothing but life itself)
00:34:28
This is what makes Kreia unique compared all the Grey Jedi in existence.
00:34:33
She is equally a Grey Jedi but sought the contrast to understand the Force
00:34:39
and stop the endless cycle of war between the Jedi and Sith.
00:34:44
And so, with the knowledge of the Force corrupting anyone that uses it selfishly (Dark Side),
00:34:50
what can be done to save the Star Wars galaxy?
00:34:53
Ultimately, even Kreia did not find many solutions.
00:34:58
If you ask the Handmaiden she proposes a naive solution.
00:35:10
(This is essentially the Anarchist solution of freeing knowledge)
00:35:20
The Jedi and Sith hoard their knowledge so perhaps if their teachings
00:35:24
were freely given it might provide a solution.
00:35:28
Unfortunately, allowing anyone to learn how to use the Force
00:35:32
by themselves without the teachings of the Jedi to suppress the ego
00:35:33
and being trained at a young age would only give rise to unofficial Grey Jedi
00:35:41
that would use the force selfishly,
00:35:43
turning people to the Dark Side, bringing destruction.
00:35:47
The teachings of the Jedi-- flawed and inhuman as they may be-- exist
00:35:52
to make sure Force-Sensitives do not fall to the Dark Side.
00:35:56
So what about teaching the next generation to become Grey Jedi
00:36:00
to be more humane without falling to the Dark Side?
00:36:03
This is how Kreia taught Revan as a Padawan.
00:36:07
Unfortunately, this is not a good solution
00:36:10
as I pointed out in my Kreia video with Atris,
00:36:13
the type of Jedi created would be strong in the Force but leaning Sith.
00:36:18
And as shown with Luke in both the Expanded Universe and in the Sequels,
00:36:22
teaching adults how to use the Force will still lead some to fall to the Dark side.
00:36:28
As a Sith, Kreia sought out more drastic measures by making it impossible
00:36:33
to be in tune with the Force.
00:36:35
if no one could use the Force, then the galaxy would be saved.
00:36:39
But such a plan would require the death of perhaps the entire galaxy. (around 100 Quadrillion lives)
00:36:44
It's impossible to get rid of the Force from Star Wars.
00:36:48
And only after being betrayed by Nihilus and Sion that cared more about power
00:36:53
did Kreia find a solution:
00:36:56
attract all force-sensitive on Malachor V as a beacon
00:37:00
and have them remain on the planet to live their life,
00:37:03
after destroying the Jedi and Sith.
00:37:06
It would remove all Force-Sensitive from the galaxy and end the wars.
00:37:12
These are essentially the only choices left in Star Wars
00:37:16
if you command the Force.
00:37:17
You followed the Jedi way and lose all attachments and then becomes Zen.
00:37:22
You follow the Sith way by embracing the Dark Side, acting your ego
00:37:26
until you lose your humanity.
00:37:29
You follow the Grey Jedi way, try to do good live your life,
00:37:33
until you eventually enact your passions trying to protect something you care about
00:37:38
and fall to the Dark Side.
00:37:40
You follow the Grey Jedi way as a coward,
00:37:42
see the extremes of the Jedi and Sith
00:37:46
and decide to live in exile away from all of
00:37:49
civilization for the rest of your life; living as a rock.
00:37:54
There exists no other alternatives.
00:37:59
But regardless of these fought experiments what makes the structure
00:38:02
of Star Wars great is the perpetual war between the Jedi and Sith
00:38:06
with one side always winning by design.
00:38:10
There are no solutions, unless you changed the foundation of Star Wars
00:38:14
or misunderstand the concept of Balance.
00:38:18
And no one should want that because the Jedi, the Sith and the Force,
00:38:22
they are what makes Star Wars interesting.
00:38:24
And the Grey Jedi are but a dead end wish fulfillment
00:38:28
to destroy the nihilistic cycle of death.
00:38:31
But in our world, one word there is no Force that controls everything,
00:38:35
balance of the self between the Apollonian and Dionysian
00:38:40
is possible with effort.
00:38:42
Just... not in Star Wars.
00:38:44
Not with the Force.
00:38:46
It is a doomed galaxy far far...
00:39:23
This was an interesting video to make after a long hiatus. Although I am very biased in my views regarding the Grey Jedi, I do not think that they are bad for Star Wars, but the problem is the Star Wars fanbase that sees them as Sith without repercussions. Many Grey Jedi fans argue that being able to use the Dark Side without somehow being corrupted is the key when it is impossible. It's the reason they want to bend the meaning of the prophecy and what balance really meant. They unwittingly desire for Star Wars to stop being Star Wars, and I highly suspect it is because they hate Star Wars. Regardless, I hope people now understand the Grey Jedi better.

Description:

This video serves as an addendum to The Philosophy of Kreia: A Critical Examination of Star Wars. It examines in greater detail the inner structure of Star Wars and the elusive concept of the Grey Jedi, something I omitted to discuss. This will likely be my final video on Star Wars. I feel as though I said everything there had to be said about it within these two videos. I have nothing more to add or analyze about Star Wars. Anything more would be redundant. The topic of my next video is hidden somewhere in this video.
