Description:
Recorded at the same time as the other two vids of this song, but recorded with a mini DVR cam attached to the headstock of the bass guitar. My bass is an Ibanez Gio GSR206 six-string bass guitar hooked up to a Boss GT-10B bass fx pedalboard, running to a small Behringer mixer and out to the analog inputs of the m-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 sound card in my computer. I use Ableton Suite 8.3.4 to strip out 90% of the bass line so that what you hear is as if I stepped in with the band to jam with them (to the best of my poor abilities, but I never give up on trying to get better and learn more). Once the original song has been stripped of the bass, I play along with the modified recording while recording both together on a separate track. Then I take that track and run it through a multi-band dynamics processor in Ableton Suite to bring out the impact of the low's, the mid's and the high's and then raising the Output dB until the VU meter peaks at -0.49dB so there is no clipping. Still learning how to "master" the audio (mad props to those audio gurus who know The Way), and have so much to learn. :-) Anyways, I listen to the audio track and my own bass playing via the amplified headphone jack in the small Behringer Xenyx 502 mixer that everything is running back & forth through it. I've spent a lot of time fiddling with all of the grooviness that is my Boss GT-10B bass fx processor pedalboard to come up with a sound that sounds the way it does. Eventually I scaled back all of the fx so that I'm only using minimal fx. So, to get my sound, I only the Boss Compressor set at 50% sustain, 100% on Attack, and 50% on the fx level, and the only other fx is a Bass Distortion effect with Drive set to 2, Tone set to +50, and Effect Level set to 89%.(the GT-10B has decent simulators of various pedals & rack fx, amp & pre-amp modelings, and all of the other pedal fx you're familiar with). The rest, for better and/or for worse, is all the fault of my bass, the Rotosound SM666 round-wounds, and my slightly stupid fingers. :-)
