00:00:00
What is the risk for the midterms next
00:00:02
year if the party leadership does not
00:00:03
embrace this plank of the party?
00:00:05
>> Well, the party leadership did not
00:00:07
support Mumani in New York and he won.
00:00:10
Party leadership is not supporting uh
00:00:13
Platner in Maine and I think he's going
00:00:14
to win. So, I think it is, you know, I
00:00:17
think there is a growing understanding
00:00:19
that leadership and defending the status
00:00:22
quo and the inequalities that exist in
00:00:24
America is not where the American people
00:00:27
are.
00:00:28
So that uh as you all probably know is
00:00:31
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and he
00:00:33
commandeered he sort of took over a
00:00:35
press conference that was going to be a
00:00:37
press conference for Senator uh majority
00:00:40
leader or minority leader Chuck Schumer
00:00:42
uh in DC and before uh Schumer took the
00:00:45
stage. Uh Senator Sanders came in, took
00:00:48
the Democratic leadership, as you just
00:00:50
heard, to task for not lending their
00:00:52
support to uh now mayor elect um uh
00:00:56
Zoron Manni and didn't do it when he was
00:00:59
running. And we're going to hear what
00:01:00
Schumer had to say in response, but
00:01:03
first, Jenk, uh what do you what have
00:01:05
you got on this? >> Uh it made me think of like what if uh
00:01:08
Bernie was the Senate Minority Leader?
00:01:11
Uh let alone if he were other positions.
00:01:14
But, uh, that's the type of message we
00:01:15
need to hear, I believe. So, we're going
00:01:17
to get into here, uh, what does Schumer
00:01:20
eventually say? Uh, and, uh, and but
00:01:23
most importantly and interestingly, what
00:01:25
are other Democrats saying today about
00:01:28
Mum Donnie and about the direction of
00:01:30
the Democratic party and the things they
00:01:32
say and in the things they don't say.
00:01:34
So, you'll see.
00:01:35
>> And since this is going to be one of the
00:01:36
episodes where you and I don't agree on
00:01:39
every single thing we talk about.
00:01:40
>> Oh, no. No. We won't agree on this. We
00:01:42
won't agree later on Pelosi. It'll be
00:01:44
fun. >> We'll we'll agree in essence on this,
00:01:45
but we won't agree fully on. Well,
00:01:47
anyway, stay tuned and you'll see uh
00:01:49
during Senator Sanders popin at u at the
00:01:53
uh Schumer press conference. Sanders
00:01:55
also admitted that there is a clear
00:01:57
divide within the Democratic party,
00:01:58
which of course we all knew that was
00:02:00
brought to the forefront again thanks to
00:02:02
the election in New York. Here's Senator
00:02:04
Sanders.
00:02:05
>> This guy started his campaign at 1% in
00:02:07
the polls. I called it one of the great
00:02:09
political upsets in the modern history
00:02:11
of America. And I think that's really
00:02:13
quite true. So who did he take on? He
00:02:15
took on oligarchs who put millions and
00:02:17
millions of dollars to try to defeat
00:02:20
him. He took on the Republican
00:02:21
establishment and of course he took on
00:02:23
the Democratic establishment.
00:02:25
>> But is the Democratic leader part of the
00:02:27
old
00:02:28
>> Why do you want to create? Look,
00:02:29
obviously you have a Democratic I ran
00:02:32
for president against the democratic
00:02:34
establishment. That's what Mandani did.
00:02:36
It's no great secret. That's what
00:02:37
Alexandria did. No great secret. Of
00:02:39
course there's an establishment. And of
00:02:41
course there's a division within the
00:02:43
Democratic party. There's no secret to
00:02:44
anybody here. What are we seeing in
00:02:46
Maine? What did you see in New York
00:02:47
City? What are you going to see all over
00:02:48
this country? You're going to see
00:02:50
progressives running,
00:02:52
protecting the needs of the working
00:02:54
class, taking on big money interests,
00:02:57
fighting for an agenda that works for
00:02:59
all, not just the few.
00:03:02
and uh he referenced Alexandria. That's
00:03:05
of course representative Alexandria
00:03:06
Aasio Cortez who had some harsh words
00:03:09
for the party on the night mom Donnie
00:03:11
won the race herself. And here is uh the
00:03:14
representative.
00:03:15
>> He had to not just defeat a Republican,
00:03:17
he had to defeat a Republican and the
00:03:20
old guard of the Democratic party at the
00:03:22
same time. He was fighting a war on two
00:03:24
fronts and not just one. And he still
00:03:27
won resoundingly. And I think the
00:03:29
message that that sends is that the
00:03:31
Democratic Party cannot last much longer
00:03:34
by denying
00:03:37
the future, by trying to undercut our
00:03:41
young, by trying to undercut uh a next
00:03:44
generation of diverse and upcoming
00:03:46
Democrats that have the parties, the
00:03:50
actual party, the actual electorate and
00:03:53
voter support.
00:03:55
Uh and and despite never having endorsed
00:03:58
mom Donnie, refusing to say even who he
00:04:01
voted for, leader Schumer fully rejected
00:04:03
that he is out of step with the
00:04:05
Democratic base. And as the New York
00:04:07
Times uh reported, Schumer still exudes
00:04:10
confidence that he is an effective party
00:04:12
leader making unpopular decisions that
00:04:14
these kinds of progressive figures don't
00:04:17
have to face. Uh he often points to the
00:04:19
fact that he never faces any challenge
00:04:21
to his leadership from the Senate
00:04:23
Democratic Caucus as a sign of his
00:04:25
strength. Even if this year he has seen
00:04:27
his poll numbers in New York dip lower
00:04:29
than they have in the past two decades
00:04:31
and that's very low. Right now his
00:04:33
popularity rating is underwater by 20
00:04:36
points according to Real Clear Polling.
00:04:39
He was asked to respond to uh
00:04:41
Congresswoman Okassio Cortez's statement
00:04:44
during his press conference yesterday.
00:04:46
Here's what the minority leader had to
00:04:48
say. >> I'm moving forward. This morning, I
00:04:50
talked with uh Mayor Elect Mani.
00:04:54
We had a very, very good conversation.
00:04:58
We said that we cared about New York
00:04:59
City and that we look forward to working
00:05:04
together to help the city and improve
00:05:06
the city. I congratulated him on running
00:05:08
a very, very good campaign. And the
00:05:11
issue that he has stressed is being
00:05:12
stressed by Democrats across the country
00:05:15
from one end of America to the other.
00:05:18
The high costs that the Trump
00:05:20
administration is imposing on us and
00:05:22
their failure to do anything about it.
00:05:25
>> So uh Jenk, we'll uh we'll, you know,
00:05:27
get to what some of the other Democrats
00:05:29
had to say about all of this and about
00:05:32
Mam Donnie's victory and about the
00:05:33
victories that happened around the
00:05:35
country. There's a similarity to the
00:05:37
tone that some of the national figures
00:05:38
struck. Uh but but before we do that,
00:05:41
let's talk a little bit about this um
00:05:44
the access of of what what you know,
00:05:46
Senator Sanders, Representative
00:05:48
Okasiocortez, and Senator Schumer had to
00:05:51
say.
00:05:52
>> Yeah. Um so let me start off with some
00:05:55
of our members and then I'll get into my
00:05:56
commentary. Over 9,000 wrote in on
00:05:58
tt.com. They got burned. Ask him about
00:06:01
establishment ghouls and he will spit
00:06:03
some fire. Uh part of the reason I'm
00:06:05
reading that to you guys is because I
00:06:06
want you to know the context. Schumer
00:06:07
was late to the press conference. So
00:06:10
Bernie's just sitting there and they
00:06:11
asked him a question about the
00:06:14
establishment. So he's like, "You want
00:06:15
to ask a question? I'll tell you."
00:06:17
Right? I mean, what is he supposed to
00:06:18
do? Hide his feelings? No, of course.
00:06:20
And uh uh Mr. In between said taps
00:06:23
Schumer on the shoulder and says,
00:06:26
"Bounce, bitch." Okay. Now, Bernie
00:06:28
didn't do that. Okay. Although that's a
00:06:30
fun way of putting it. Uh so look, uh
00:06:33
several different things here. Schumer
00:06:35
never endorsed uh and Hakee Jeff
00:06:38
endorsed like three minutes before the
00:06:41
race was called. I'm exaggerating but
00:06:43
not by much about last week or so after
00:06:45
a long long race. And the reason is
00:06:48
obvious. Their donors didn't want them
00:06:49
to. And and they're in the opposite camp
00:06:51
in the of the Democratic party. They're
00:06:53
in the corrupt camp and Mam Donnie and
00:06:54
Bernie are in the clean camp. And so
00:06:56
>> Oh, that Bernie's an independent. He's
00:06:58
not in the Democrat.
00:06:59
>> Well, okay. And so um so that's not
00:07:02
surprising. Are there is there like what
00:07:05
I liked about that clip, Michael, was
00:07:07
that Bernie's acknowledging something
00:07:09
obvious which he doesn't always do. Like
00:07:12
there's been this unspoken war between
00:07:14
establishments and progressives. It's
00:07:16
spoken online all the time. On TV
00:07:19
though, it's almost never mentioned like
00:07:22
because if you because in the past what
00:07:24
would happen is if a progressive said,
00:07:26
"Yeah, of course there's an establishment." They say, "Well, who do
00:07:29
you think it is? Are you saying Chuck
00:07:30
Schumer has blow your establishment? And
00:07:32
then obviously the answer is yes. But
00:07:34
then that's seen as some big affront to
00:07:36
unity. Wait a minute.
00:07:39
Here are the Democratic leadership that
00:07:41
never endorsed Mumani who was a
00:07:43
Democratic candidate. So obviously they
00:07:45
never meant anything about unity.
00:07:48
Whenever they said unity, they meant
00:07:50
compliance. I think that one is
00:07:52
inarguable. You could argue about the
00:07:54
two sides and who's right, but that's
00:07:57
at is at this point we have empirical
00:08:00
evidence and we've had a lot of
00:08:01
empirical evidence. When progressives
00:08:04
are uh in in trouble or challenged, the
00:08:07
establishment never helps them. Never.
00:08:10
And whenever they feel they got an inch
00:08:12
above progressives, they're like, "YOU
00:08:14
MUST OBEY UNITY." SO, IT'S LIES. 100%
00:08:17
LIES. I'm done with that. And by the
00:08:19
way, Schumer should be done, too. Now, I
00:08:20
mean, Pelosi's gone now. [snorts]
00:08:23
Cuomo's gone and and AOC should primary
00:08:26
Schumer in for the New York Senate race,
00:08:29
obviously, and drive him out and easily
00:08:31
take that seat. That's my opinion.
00:08:33
>> I I you know, I I don't know that he
00:08:35
she'll have to p I think that that
00:08:37
Schumer will eventually just step down.
00:08:39
I don't think that it's going to be a
00:08:40
question of primary. I don't think he
00:08:42
wants to get into a primary. I don't
00:08:43
think he wants to lose a primary. Um, I
00:08:46
think that he's going to see how this
00:08:47
shutdown thing pans out and then I
00:08:49
imagine he'll have a press conference
00:08:51
where you learn a little bit about what
00:08:52
his plans are. So I
00:08:54
>> Yeah, I it's the AOC situation is
00:08:55
interesting, Michael, because I she must
00:08:57
be thinking about running for president
00:08:59
cuz if I'm her and I want it and I'm not
00:09:02
going to run for president. I want that
00:09:04
Senate seat. It's a bigger role obvious.
00:09:06
And all you have to do is say I'm coming
00:09:08
and Schumer will retire. I agree with
00:09:09
you. But in [clears throat] New York, a
00:09:11
downstate challenge from a progressive
00:09:14
may not play as well. Uh and and it's
00:09:16
interesting because although also Kathy
00:09:18
Hokll is now in the conversation, the
00:09:20
governor of New York.
00:09:21
>> I think AOC would obliterate her.
00:09:23
>> I do too, except she's she's an upstate
00:09:25
New Yorker and she's also an upstate New
00:09:27
Yorker who came out as she should have
00:09:29
for mom Donnie immediately and
00:09:31
campaigned with him and and so and
00:09:34
that's not what you would have expected
00:09:35
from from Governor.
00:09:36
>> She wasn't on his side in the primary,
00:09:38
but she didn't have to They didn't have
00:09:39
to be in a primary. You don't have to be
00:09:40
on anybody's side. I mean, you know, and
00:09:41
and it was a funny primary for her
00:09:44
because she replaced Andrew Cuomo
00:09:46
essentially when Andrew Cuomo went. So,
00:09:48
it it was a funny place for the governor
00:09:50
to be. Interesting politics. Actually, I
00:09:51
think it was really good political
00:09:53
theater. These leaders should have
00:09:56
endorsed the the the Democrat who won
00:09:59
there. Uh I I understand why they
00:10:02
didn't, and I don't that doesn't mean I
00:10:04
sympathize with why they didn't. I get
00:10:06
why they didn't. I don't think it's as
00:10:07
much about money as you probably do. I I
00:10:11
don't think it's about the donors. Maybe
00:10:12
in in Schumer's case a little more than
00:10:14
Jeffrey's case it is. But I think that
00:10:17
it that that it's about a national
00:10:19
strategy that the Democratic Party has
00:10:22
for better or worse, whether it works or
00:10:23
it doesn't work, of saying we are not
00:10:26
going to uh get ourselves caught up in
00:10:29
what we view as being
00:10:32
fringe types of uh of issues. You hear
00:10:37
Republicans ecstatic that Manny won
00:10:39
because they can tie the national party
00:10:41
to Mam Donnie. So what these national
00:10:43
figures are doing are saying, "Yeah, we
00:10:45
we're we're okay with Mum Donnie
00:10:46
winning. We don't want to get involved
00:10:48
with it because we want to be able to a
00:10:50
raise money on it and b be able to run
00:10:53
the types of national campaigns that we
00:10:55
want to." Whether you agree with that or
00:10:56
not, that's the strategy and I I I get
00:10:59
it. So that's
00:11:00
>> So look, normally I'd say it's almost
00:11:02
always 98% about the money if it's not
00:11:05
100. Uh but in this case, I understand
00:11:07
what you're saying. It's probably 8020,
00:11:08
right? So they don't want to get labeled
00:11:10
with a socialist label. uh stuck with
00:11:12
it, right? But number one, it just won.
00:11:14
I get it. It's New York City. I get it
00:11:16
more than anybody, right? Uh now, having
00:11:18
said that, um why are you stuck with
00:11:21
that label? I mean, mainstream media
00:11:22
does this absurd thing where they're
00:11:23
like, "Okay, one Democrat is a socialist
00:11:26
and one in one of the most progressive
00:11:27
cities in the in the country." Okay. So,
00:11:30
that means all Democrats, you have to
00:11:32
say whether you're a socialist or not.
00:11:34
Why? And do you do that for Republicans?
00:11:36
when Hershel Walker was running and he
00:11:38
was mentally unstable. Like, okay,
00:11:40
Hershel Walker is mentally unstable. Are
00:11:42
all Republicans mentally unstable? ARE
00:11:43
YOU FOR MENTAL INSTABILITY? He's talking
00:11:45
about murdering people. Are you all for
00:11:46
murdering? Well, Randy Fine's talking
00:11:48
about murdering two million people in
00:11:49
Gaza. So, are they asking every single
00:11:51
Republican, Randy Fine is a genocidal
00:11:54
maniac or does that mean you're a
00:11:55
genocidal maniac? No. So, this is a
00:11:57
smear job by mainstream media. The way
00:11:59
that I would fight against it, and
00:12:00
you're not going to be surprised by
00:12:01
this, is I'd go over the top. I wouldn't
00:12:03
be worried about that. I wouldn't be
00:12:04
like, "Oh my god, we'll be all be called
00:12:06
socialists." I'd be like, "Hey, do you
00:12:07
have You're a reporter, right? You
00:12:09
understand that Montana's not the same
00:12:11
as New York. You understand that not
00:12:12
every Democrat is the same." Like, do I
00:12:14
have to explain that to you? Really?
00:12:16
Really? But ask any question you like
00:12:18
cuz I'm here all day.
00:12:19
>> Yeah. And and it is about the media.
00:12:22
It's about the questions they ask and
00:12:23
and how they tell the story. and and
00:12:26
Taler Rico, who's running in in Texas,
00:12:28
said that he's when he first came on the
00:12:31
air as a candidate uh for the Senate
00:12:33
seat. He he was going on the air and
00:12:35
everyone was saying, "You're all asking
00:12:37
me about LGBTQ and trans people in
00:12:40
sports. No one has asked me about the
00:12:42
cost of living. No one has asked me
00:12:44
about immigration. No one has asked me
00:12:47
about civil rights. No one has asked me
00:12:49
uh about housing." They're all talking
00:12:51
about that. So, in in in fairness and
00:12:53
and in agreement with what you're
00:12:55
saying, the media is carving this out
00:12:57
because those are the questions they're
00:12:58
asking and those are the connections
00:13:00
they're drawing. So, they will ask uh
00:13:02
Hakee Jeff, would he endorse, hey, what
00:13:04
does it mean if the minority leader of
00:13:06
the House of Representatives is
00:13:07
endorsing someone who is a Democratic
00:13:10
socialist? So, somebody like Jeff will
00:13:12
say, I don't even want to bother with
00:13:14
that. Right? I don't even want to bother
00:13:15
with that being associated that way. You
00:13:18
could say that it's clownish. You could
00:13:20
say that it's cowardly. It probably is
00:13:22
both to a degree, but it also comes with
00:13:24
a bit of strategy which they will live
00:13:27
or die by, you know.
00:13:28
>> Yeah, that kind of defensive posture
00:13:30
drives me crazy. Of course, you're like,
00:13:32
just go out and say who you are and
00:13:33
there's nothing wrong with it. Here,
00:13:34
look, I'll do it. I'm a capitalist. I'm
00:13:36
not a socialist. Uh, I like mom Donnie
00:13:38
because he was for change and he was
00:13:39
against the status quo. Or do I think
00:13:41
that every one of his positions going to
00:13:43
work? I don't know. Let's find out. But
00:13:45
I'm not in in favor of rent control, for
00:13:47
example, and he wants to further rent
00:13:48
control, just like with apartments that
00:13:50
are already rent controlled, do a freeze
00:13:52
on them. I don't think that that's going
00:13:53
to work that well. So what? So what? The
00:13:56
brother won the Democratic primary. He's
00:13:58
for a change. So I I'm in favor of him,
00:14:00
right? That doesn't mean I am him. This
00:14:03
is complicated. Is this complicated?
00:14:05
Like sometimes I feel like with
00:14:06
mainstream media, you have to talk
00:14:08
slowly. And why are they trying to do
00:14:11
look at the point that Michael's making
00:14:12
about the candidate where you said in
00:14:14
Montana that was running or Texas
00:14:16
>> in Texas. >> Yeah. So that they're constantly asking
00:14:19
him culture war questions.
00:14:21
>> Okay. Why? Because mainstream media
00:14:23
doesn't want to focus on what Manny was
00:14:26
desperately trying to focus on
00:14:28
affordability.
00:14:30
Because corporate media and corporate
00:14:31
politicians love that it's not
00:14:33
affordable. They love it cuz it's that's
00:14:35
the corporations that are getting rich
00:14:37
off of crushing us and making things
00:14:39
unaffordable. And it's complicated,
00:14:41
guys. It's not there's no conspiracy.
00:14:43
There's no, you know, the cable news
00:14:45
anchors don't get together with the
00:14:46
Chamber of Commerce. I've talked a lot
00:14:48
about this. You know, it's group think
00:14:50
and where does that group think comes
00:14:51
from? It's uh invisible hand of the
00:14:54
market. It's I wrote about it in Justice
00:14:56
Gumming, my book. But bottom line here
00:14:58
is you're seeing it in action as you're
00:15:01
seeing them constantly focus on culture
00:15:03
war issues and things that divide us and
00:15:06
never really asking about the issues
00:15:08
that the New York voters just told you
00:15:10
are the most important.
00:15:11
>> Right. And all that matters is what the
00:15:13
New York voters had to say. Right. And
00:15:14
and and he won resoundingly against a
00:15:18
familiar name in in Andrew Cuomo. I
00:15:21
don't think Curtis Leewa had anything to
00:15:22
do with what happened the other night.
00:15:25
uh and and now he's the mayor of New
00:15:27
York. And and listen, there have been
00:15:28
and Jen and I off air talked about this
00:15:30
the other night. There have been other
00:15:32
mayors of New York who have challenged
00:15:34
the establishment and been wildly
00:15:36
unsuccessful mayors. Uh I happen to
00:15:38
think Mum Donnie is is too smart to be
00:15:41
dumb when he is mayor. Uh David Dinkens
00:15:44
uh challenged the establishment. He's a
00:15:46
black burough president, Manhattan
00:15:47
burough president in New York. Yes, he
00:15:48
came up through a political machine in
00:15:50
New York, but you know, there there were
00:15:52
not a lot of citywide uh black figures
00:15:54
who did well in that way. And of course,
00:15:57
he was the first black mayor. Uh and
00:15:59
then Bill Delasio, who came kind of out
00:16:01
of nowhere as a progressive, a very
00:16:03
progressive candidate who came in with
00:16:05
an arrogance that he could do whatever
00:16:07
he wanted and was uh while while
00:16:09
charismatic, unsuccessful. So I I think
00:16:11
that there is most definitely precedent
00:16:13
for challenging the establishment in New
00:16:16
York. But when leadership in Washington
00:16:18
comes from New York, it's different. You
00:16:20
have a New York senator who runs the
00:16:22
minority in the Senate and you have a
00:16:24
New York representative from Queens and
00:16:25
Hakee Jeff who runs the minority party
00:16:28
in the House. They should have stood up.
00:16:30
You know, now now unfortunately Mumani
00:16:32
needs them more than he needs, you know,
00:16:34
more than they need him. Uh because if
00:16:37
if Trump is going to make it difficult
00:16:38
on him, he's going to have to find a way
00:16:41
to get money and support from Congress.
00:16:43
uh and and that's the way it's going to
00:16:45
shake out at least for the next year
00:16:46
while that leadership team is in there.
00:16:48
So, uh on election night though, there
00:16:51
were other Democrats, many national
00:16:53
Democrats who congratulated the two
00:16:55
candidates who won that night in other
00:16:57
places and some of the others uh on
00:17:00
their victories, but didn't point to
00:17:02
Mamani. So, consistent with what we've
00:17:04
been talking about, Pete Budajage,
00:17:05
former transportation secretary and um
00:17:09
and mayor, um he said New Jersey and
00:17:11
Virginia have chosen well by electing
00:17:13
Mikey Cheryl and Spanberger for
00:17:15
Virginia. That's Abigail Spanberger as
00:17:16
their next governors. There are proven
00:17:18
leaders who won by focusing on what
00:17:20
matters most, how politics and policy
00:17:22
can make everyday life better and more
00:17:25
affordable. Cy Booker put out a tweet,
00:17:27
the senator from New Jersey, saying
00:17:29
yesterday, "We showed that the power of
00:17:31
the people is greater than the president
00:17:33
in power with the images of four
00:17:36
headlines attached, none mentioning New
00:17:38
York or Mamani. You'll see uh
00:17:40
Philadelphia with uh New Jersey. Uh
00:17:43
Philadelphia had had in Pennsylvania
00:17:46
Supreme Court justices that all won. Uh
00:17:48
New They're a bedroom community for some
00:17:50
New Jersey uh voters. Uh they have Mikey
00:17:53
Cheryl there. California and Prop 50,
00:17:55
the Demistricting, and Abigail
00:17:57
Spamberger. There seemed to have been
00:17:58
room. I think you could have lost the
00:18:00
across Philly and New Jersey headline
00:18:02
there and put room for Mum Donnie
00:18:04
winning. Uh Cy Booker, though, um uh did
00:18:07
not do that in his tweet. Debbie Dingle,
00:18:09
a member of Congress from Michigan, was
00:18:11
asked about Mom Donnie on CNN. She
00:18:13
immediately went right to Spamberger and
00:18:16
Mikey Cheryl. Here is Debbie Dingle,
00:18:18
their former colleague. Do you have
00:18:21
concerns about uh Mandami and the labels
00:18:25
that this affords Republicans being used
00:18:27
as a weapon against Democrats?
00:18:30
>> Okay. Republicans tried to make Nancy
00:18:32
Pelosi the enemy in Europe's past. I'm
00:18:36
going to focus on the election of
00:18:37
Abigail Spanberger who is clearly a
00:18:40
moderate as is Mikey Cheryl. both women
00:18:44
that had strong uh military and national
00:18:47
intelligence background.
00:18:50
>> So uh you know look the the that was the
00:18:55
example of what we were talking about,
00:18:56
right? I mean you had the CNN anchor
00:18:58
asking the representative from Michigan,
00:19:00
what about the socialist who just won,
00:19:03
right? Um that that's how they're
00:19:05
framing this and that's how that you
00:19:08
know it's an interesting thing to talk
00:19:10
about after a primary. He's the Democrat
00:19:13
who won the mayor's race in New York.
00:19:16
It's a diffic It's an interesting thing
00:19:18
to talk about when that person is a
00:19:20
candidate. Can a socialist win? You're a
00:19:22
socialist. Can you win in New York City?
00:19:24
Well, he proved that he can win in New
00:19:25
York City. So, it's an irresponsible
00:19:27
question to still be asking. I get why
00:19:30
they're asking, but if that's the lead
00:19:32
question, that's terribly irresponsible.
00:19:34
Uh and Dingle of course talking about
00:19:36
her former colleagues and and the
00:19:38
Democrats as we talked about earlier in
00:19:40
the segment Jenk talking about
00:19:42
moderation. It seems to be a national
00:19:44
plan.
00:19:46
You're not going to agree with it. I'm
00:19:47
not sure that I agree with it across the
00:19:49
board, but I get the strategy. I get why
00:19:51
they're trying it.
00:19:52
>> Yeah. So, look, everyone's a little bit
00:19:54
different place with within the
00:19:56
Democratic party. I just keep saying so
00:19:57
what. So, and in terms of these uh
00:20:00
Democrats that Michael just quoted, uh
00:20:03
Art Garfuncle wrote about this a long
00:20:05
time ago called The Sound of Silence. Uh
00:20:08
so, when it comes to M don't say
00:20:10
anything, there was a hilarious thing
00:20:12
about Cory Booker, you know, he's not
00:20:13
backing Mom Donnie. Uh they ask him
00:20:16
about it and he says, "Oh, well, New
00:20:17
York is so far. I I don't like to get
00:20:19
involved in New York politics." Philly's
00:20:20
a little further and DC's definitely
00:20:22
further. Uh but yet you seem to be
00:20:24
involved in their politics, right? So,
00:20:28
all right, one last time. This is super
00:20:30
simple. Chuck Schumer and I are in the
00:20:32
same party. I'm a Democrat. He's a
00:20:34
Democrat. Okay. Does that mean I agree
00:20:36
with everything Chuck Schumer says?
00:20:38
That's comical, right? I I barely agree
00:20:40
with anything he says. So, so what? So
00:20:43
what? Not a complicated
00:20:46
question here. And for the Democrats,
00:20:48
it's look, that's why I say it's 80%
00:20:50
about money because it isn't just like,
00:20:52
hey, AOC won. And when AOC won, a lot of
00:20:55
them immediately flipped and were like,
00:20:56
"Oh, okay. Well, you know, what am I
00:20:58
going to do?" Right? Um, but they're not
00:21:01
flipping here. They're not mentioning
00:21:02
him. They're purposely avoiding him.
00:21:05
Because, yeah, of course, their donors
00:21:06
would be super pissed. The donor class
00:21:09
despises Mom Donnie. So, that's why
00:21:12
they're all nervous as hell. Like, don't
00:21:14
say Mom Donnie. I got it. I got it. Come
00:21:18
on. Cy Booker is the most obvious
00:21:19
because okay, Debbie Dingle, her
00:21:22
politics is confusing. I I don't even
00:21:24
know what to call her, right? Uh and
00:21:26
Buddhaj's corporate establishment 101. I
00:21:29
get it. But Cy Booker's would sometimes
00:21:32
pretend to be a progressive. So what
00:21:35
would be the issue with Mumani? Come on,
00:21:37
get real.
00:21:38
>> Yeah. Well, I you can paint it pretty
00:21:41
easily with money. and the fact that
00:21:43
most of Cy Booker's or many of Cy
00:21:46
Booker's constituents work in New York
00:21:47
City every single day and uh and make a
00:21:50
lot of money doing it. And so there's
00:21:52
there's obviously that connection and
00:21:54
you know he's a national candidate and
00:21:57
uh and he's going to be extra careful
00:21:59
annoyingly so uh as a US senator um in
00:22:02
this case at least.
00:22:03
>> Every time you ring the bell below an
00:22:05
angel gets his swings. Totally not true,
00:22:07
but it does keep you updated on our live
00:22:09
shows.
