00:00:03
hey guys Hennig and warden from flip
00:00:05
normals here and in today's video we are
00:00:07
doing a free introduction to Marvelous
00:00:10
Designer so a lot of people are wanting
00:00:13
to get into marvelous and you know
00:00:15
searching around you might find that
00:00:16
there's not a lot of free content
00:00:19
available to get you into this and
00:00:20
sometimes it can be a little bit
00:00:22
intimidating just shooting up a bunch of
00:00:24
money for training for software you
00:00:25
might not know if you like so hopefully
00:00:29
this introduction is gonna you know get
00:00:32
all those doubts away because this is an
00:00:34
awesome piece of software for for maybe
00:00:36
for making fabrics but before we get
00:00:38
into that we are just gonna sell our own
00:00:40
products contradictory maybe if you do
00:00:44
like this series and asked would you
00:00:45
feel like you want to get into more
00:00:47
advanced topics of creating fabrics we
00:00:50
have two products especially the first
00:00:52
one here is our concept England Marvel's
00:00:54
designer and Sivir series where we do a
00:00:57
full piece of garment in marvelous and
00:00:59
take it in the ZBrush this gives you a
00:01:02
lot of good knowledge of how to work
00:01:04
with marvellous and see brush in a
00:01:05
pipeline so this this one covers a lot
00:01:08
of lot of fundamentals it's also very
00:01:10
basic in the beginning so even if there
00:01:12
are things you might have forgotten from
00:01:14
the free introduction this is gonna
00:01:16
definitely you know you're gonna get
00:01:18
caught up with this here as well then we
00:01:20
also have our newly released street wear
00:01:22
outfit in Marvelous Designer where it's
00:01:23
more focused on purely marvelous we
00:01:25
don't really do any pipeline stuff so we
00:01:28
make this outfit from from start to
00:01:30
finish one of the I guess highlighted
00:01:33
pieces from this garment is the tied
00:01:35
sweater around her waist which is kind
00:01:37
of tricky to do also more in a stylized
00:01:40
fashion but still being you know on the
00:01:43
realistic side so if you do want to pick
00:01:45
these products up make sure to head over
00:01:47
to the flipping almost marker place
00:01:48
after you watch this video link in the
00:01:50
description yes so let's get started
00:01:54
with the introduction here so just to
00:01:56
start off with basic marvelous you have
00:01:59
a basic avatar and these marvellous
00:02:02
chips with a few avatars you have kids
00:02:03
women and men and if you want to check
00:02:07
any of these out you can always go and
00:02:08
say open avatar
00:02:10
and you can load in a new avatar when
00:02:13
you do that you're presented with this
00:02:15
menu where I would highly recommend to
00:02:17
say automatically add arrangement points
00:02:19
that just gives you arrangements points
00:02:22
that's easy for you to then fix fabrics
00:02:26
to them but we'll look into that in a
00:02:28
little bit that's a little bit confusing
00:02:29
so for this purpose one thing I feel
00:02:33
like a lot of series might not cover is
00:02:36
how to work with your own models
00:02:38
oftentimes you'll be showing stuff on
00:02:41
the basic marvelous avatars but they're
00:02:45
not always I mean they're they're fine
00:02:47
but they're not like super nice
00:02:48
oftentimes you have your own base mesh
00:02:50
and you want to get it in and the the
00:02:52
workflow between marvelous and other 3d
00:02:54
softwares can be a little bit confusing
00:02:57
just because of the scale so to start
00:02:59
with we'll import
00:03:00
a quick base mesh that I made just
00:03:02
before this so we'll go to file import
00:03:05
obj and then I have this mesh here
00:03:08
called mesh open that and then we have
00:03:12
the import obj menu so there's a bunch
00:03:14
of options here what you can do like
00:03:16
when we're making a new scene so in the
00:03:18
import option we're just gonna say open
00:03:20
if you say add it's just gonna add a
00:03:22
secondary avatar and then it's gonna be
00:03:25
confusing once you start seaming so
00:03:27
we're just gonna open it loaded as an
00:03:29
avatar you can load it as a garment if
00:03:31
you want to sim it as well which is
00:03:32
interesting actually
00:03:33
and then again automatically add
00:03:36
arrangement points this is a new feature
00:03:38
in Marvis 8 where it'll add arrangement
00:03:41
points for you to position your fabrics
00:03:43
if your mesh is like kind of in an a
00:03:47
pose or a tee pose it's not gonna work
00:03:50
with all Misha's just because it does
00:03:54
like some probably a machine learning
00:03:56
thing under the hood it's so popular
00:03:58
these days so automatically add
00:04:00
arrangement points and then set it to
00:04:02
auto scale it can be tempting to take
00:04:05
this off and then trying to like say no
00:04:07
okay I've imported and just set it to
00:04:09
auto scale and that's gonna work with
00:04:11
whatever you export it that is import
00:04:14
and here we have our beautiful beautiful
00:04:16
avatar so just as a quick note so you
00:04:19
don't have to skip until the end to
00:04:21
figure this out if you wanted to export
00:04:22
this specific avatar again so it works in the
00:04:26
3d software you export it from just go
00:04:28
to file export obj selected cuz we only
00:04:31
selected the mesh give it a name like
00:04:34
mesh 2 and then here the most important
00:04:38
thing to consider for for exporting is
00:04:40
the scale just set it to centimeter or
00:04:42
death studio I find this works with Maya
00:04:45
and and most other 3d software you can
00:04:48
go in and then mess with the scale
00:04:49
afterwards if it doesn't but centimeters
00:04:52
should work most of the time so with
00:04:55
that in place the first thing I always
00:04:57
do when I open marvellous if it's a
00:04:59
fresh installation or whatever it is I
00:05:01
changed the way everything works in here
00:05:03
like navigation and display because it's
00:05:05
not really like at least for me it's a
00:05:08
little confusing so first go to settings
00:05:10
and then you go to user settings we're
00:05:13
gonna change the navigation in here
00:05:14
under view controls change it from I
00:05:18
think it's set the regular Mouse in the
00:05:19
beginning me coming from Maya I'll just
00:05:22
set it to Maya you can do 3d studio max
00:05:24
as well if you want you can also make
00:05:26
your own but for me Maya works the best
00:05:29
so the way the navigation works with the
00:05:31
Maya is just regular my navigation hold
00:05:33
on alt and then you do everything with
00:05:36
the mouse buttons for that so all left
00:05:38
most mouse button is to rotate and alt
00:05:41
right mouse button is to I'm sorry all
00:05:45
the middle mouse button is the pan and
00:05:47
all the rice right mouse button is to
00:05:49
zoom in and out but again if you have
00:05:52
other preferences you know feel free to
00:05:54
just tweak those settings the next one
00:05:57
is going to be the gizmo which I change
00:05:59
from like if you look at this if you
00:06:01
click on your avatar you can see the
00:06:02
gizmo is sort of locked to the screen
00:06:04
which can be kind of confusing once you
00:06:06
start putting your fabrics in place and
00:06:08
you want to move them around so just go
00:06:11
to preferences gizmo and change this to
00:06:13
I usually keep it to local because then
00:06:15
it's local to whatever you click so
00:06:17
that's just now we have an actual 3d
00:06:19
gizmo to move around ok the next thing
00:06:24
is usually I just change the color a
00:06:27
little bit on the avatar pretty simple
00:06:30
you just select them and then go to
00:06:31
material and select the color this is
00:06:34
just a differentiated from the default
00:06:35
fabrics which
00:06:36
gonna be white and navigation works the
00:06:39
same in the 2d view over here which is
00:06:41
assuming an out with old and right mouse
00:06:43
button and you pan with the open middle
00:06:46
mouse button obviously you can't rotate
00:06:47
because it's a it's a 2d view so that
00:06:50
leads me into I mean it should be a
00:06:52
pretty self-explanatory but this is the
00:06:54
view where you preview all your 3d and
00:06:56
you've simulated and this is the view
00:06:58
where you actually draw your patterns so
00:07:02
there is a feature where you can draw in
00:07:04
the 3d view as well for more complex
00:07:05
shapes we're not really going to be
00:07:07
covering that but it is possible but I
00:07:10
tend to never really work with it
00:07:12
because I most the time I have pattern
00:07:14
reference so that that makes it a little
00:07:16
easier to figure out let's guess work so
00:07:20
to start with we are going to be
00:07:22
importing our reference plane and we're
00:07:27
not going to be covering like every
00:07:28
single menu item to start with and then
00:07:31
start to work the way we've structured
00:07:32
this tutorial is we'll sort of like
00:07:34
introduce it to you as we go along
00:07:36
because then you can see specific use
00:07:38
cases for the tools or how you use them
00:07:42
I think that's a little easier to wrap
00:07:43
your head around instead of getting
00:07:45
percent of it like 40 different tools
00:07:46
and then try to remember which which one
00:07:49
does what yeah it gets very intense
00:07:50
right away and your brain it's gonna be
00:07:52
overloaded so just load up our reference
00:07:55
I make a plane this is the rectangle
00:07:58
tool here and press the S key to as a
00:08:01
hotkey to activate the tool and then you
00:08:04
just drag it out nothing fancy so as far
00:08:09
as I know there's still no good way to
00:08:11
import references in marvellous this is
00:08:13
the best we've got so we technically create a piece of
00:08:16
fabric and put a texture on top of it so
00:08:19
we can so we can have our references
00:08:21
here then with the a key or this edit or
00:08:25
transform pattern tool we can then
00:08:27
select it and then just move it around
00:08:29
where it occupies the space here in the
00:08:32
2d viewport is not really important you
00:08:34
can see it's not linked to the 3d
00:08:35
viewport once it's created but in the 3d
00:08:38
viewport you know we just want to get it
00:08:40
out of the way and we want to keep this
00:08:42
area fairly clean because this is going
00:08:44
to be our reference for creating our
00:08:45
patterns there you go
00:08:49
so again with a key this is how you
00:08:52
manipulate a lot of things in the 2d
00:08:54
viewport so we can select our fabric and
00:08:57
then we want to assign a special fabric
00:09:00
just to this reference plane so that it
00:09:04
doesn't interfere with our other fabrics
00:09:06
so to do that we just select the plane
00:09:09
and hit assign that's gonna create a new
00:09:12
fabric and assign it to the mesh if you
00:09:15
wanted to reassign the first fabric for
00:09:17
example you could select this fabric and
00:09:19
then just say under fabrics change it to
00:09:22
fabric one you can see now it's it's
00:09:24
highlighted in in yellow there this
00:09:26
little tick mark means that every time
00:09:28
we create a pattern now if by default
00:09:30
it's gonna get that pattern out there so
00:09:32
we can change that by doing this so
00:09:35
again we'll just change this back to
00:09:36
fabric to cool now to apply the texture
00:09:41
we actually go into the fabric not the
00:09:44
that we go into the material for the
00:09:47
fabric and not the actual fabric itself
00:09:48
and then here we'll have basic texture
00:09:51
settings you can you can load a normal
00:09:53
map to do you know game like seams in
00:09:56
the viewport you can change the the
00:09:58
reflection how rough it is this can be
00:10:00
good for previews inside of marvellous
00:10:02
just to differentiate your fabrics a
00:10:03
little bit so click this little button
00:10:06
and then by default you'll be taken to
00:10:08
this for some reason random folder I
00:10:11
don't where marvelous stores a lot of
00:10:13
its stuff so we'll just hit to our intro
00:10:17
here and just load up this reference
00:10:20
there we go so this reference here is
00:10:24
based on what I made for this tutorial
00:10:28
so you know we cheated a little bit in
00:10:30
prep beforehand it's always better that
00:10:33
way to that like make it up on the spot
00:10:35
so this is the t-shirt will be creating
00:10:38
here and right now it's kind of hard to
00:10:40
see what's going on so the first tool
00:10:43
we'll be using over here is gonna be
00:10:44
your edit pattern tool so you hit the T
00:10:46
key it's gonna be this tool edit pattern
00:10:49
or a texture and then we can simply just
00:10:52
click on it that activates our gizmo and
00:10:54
you can see this is this is our pivot
00:10:57
point so we can move this around just by
00:11:00
holding on it we can
00:11:02
Tate it just by clicking this and then
00:11:07
we can scale it up as well so we'll just
00:11:09
scale this up to maximize space a little
00:11:12
bit there we go
00:11:15
now one can be helpful is if you just
00:11:18
take this at the a key and then move it
00:11:21
over top of our our little avatar
00:11:24
because that way we can sort of roughly
00:11:26
guess the the size of this just so it
00:11:30
doesn't it's not completely off even
00:11:32
though you know it's not transparent so
00:11:36
again to move it up so we yeah with the
00:11:39
legs there that's that's gonna be about
00:11:41
right if you hit the T key it I think it
00:11:43
becomes transparent so we can see it a
00:11:45
little better maybe scale it down a
00:11:47
little more there you go there you go so
00:11:56
now we have the rough size that we want
00:11:58
for this so if we move this over again
00:12:01
then we can start tracing the the
00:12:04
pattern and this is this is pretty
00:12:06
simple this is like the backbone of how
00:12:08
to use marvellous so let's just check
00:12:12
here the first tool that we'll be using
00:12:17
to creating for creating patterns it's
00:12:19
going to be the polygon tool which you
00:12:20
find here
00:12:21
so before we just use the rectangle one
00:12:23
we just drag out a rectangle so the
00:12:25
polygon tool allows us to be a little
00:12:27
more freehand you know we can click it's
00:12:30
kind of like the like marquee under the
00:12:33
marquee tool the polygon selection tool
00:12:36
in Photoshop we just select off stuff so
00:12:39
you can just click around if you hold it
00:12:40
down while you drag it creates a curve
00:12:43
automatically so I tend to not really
00:12:45
use predefined curves in my fabric like
00:12:48
this I tend to create them manually
00:12:51
after I make the fabric it just makes
00:12:53
the creation process a little bit easier
00:12:56
see it was still set to fabric tears it
00:12:58
was said effective everyone here so
00:13:02
polygons to a hand and then we'll just
00:13:05
start tracing around so we'll just be
00:13:07
creating one side of this just to speed
00:13:10
up the process because that means that
00:13:13
we can sew with symmetry so we is
00:13:15
account like if you're sculpting with
00:13:16
symmetry and ZBrush you only have to do
00:13:18
one side and then you just near it over
00:13:21
so I just simply tap on these points
00:13:25
where I want them
00:13:27
so for these you can see there's a
00:13:29
little bit of a curve going in I'm just
00:13:31
gonna keep it straight for now it just
00:13:33
makes it easier in the beginning so you
00:13:34
can keep it straight with either because
00:13:36
it turns pink when I get down this is a
00:13:40
smart guy that's automatically activated
00:13:42
and marvelous you know so hold down
00:13:44
shift to snap it to angles if you want
00:13:47
so we'll just have it there and there
00:13:50
and there now that's our first piece of
00:13:56
fabric so take that and put it over here
00:13:59
so to start with you can see because
00:14:02
it's linked to the 2d position this is
00:14:05
where it gets created in the 3d view to
00:14:06
started with so then we just move this
00:14:08
over and you can use the F key to zoom
00:14:11
in on your fabrics as well now we're
00:14:14
gonna have a little bit of an issue with
00:14:16
with these two fabrics here if if you
00:14:21
hit the space key that's how you
00:14:22
simulate things and marbles so if we
00:14:24
just hit a space now it's just gonna
00:14:26
fall down because there's nothing to
00:14:28
hold it up and you can see it's quite
00:14:29
slow at simulating right now that's
00:14:32
because this reference plane like I
00:14:34
mentioned is not just a reference plane
00:14:35
this is an actual piece of fabric so if
00:14:38
we go look at our wireframe you can see
00:14:42
this actually this is pretty pretty
00:14:44
dense so let's just hit control Z to
00:14:47
undo that so the first thing we want to
00:14:50
do after we've created our fabrics is
00:14:51
make sure that this doesn't impact
00:14:53
anything so by selecting this in here
00:14:56
it's the same it's the same hotkey like
00:14:59
with you press the a key in the 2d
00:15:01
viewport you can press the a key out
00:15:02
here select your fabric
00:15:05
and then we want to increase our
00:15:07
particle distance to the max which i
00:15:09
think is 500 so now you see we have like
00:15:11
30 faces it's gonna be a lot quicker to
00:15:14
sim because no matter what this is gonna
00:15:16
be siming we can hold it in place so it
00:15:20
doesn't move anywhere but it's still
00:15:21
gonna be you know taking up CPU power
00:15:23
whenever we sim it so just right-click
00:15:26
on your fabric and say freeze and then
00:15:29
even in the 3d viewport you can go in
00:15:32
and then you can you can like hide your
00:15:34
fabric so if you see hi 3d pattern now
00:15:37
it's not going to be distracting in the
00:15:38
3d viewport at all so back to the
00:15:41
regular mesh view and then we sort of
00:15:44
like position this so obviously it
00:15:47
doesn't look like t-shirt right now
00:15:48
because it's a little off listen to this
00:15:51
so the first thing we want to do when
00:15:54
you start modifying this or at least
00:15:55
this is how I work as I first block it
00:15:58
out very basic then with the C key or
00:16:01
the curve tool you can then just go in
00:16:04
and then you can start adding curves so
00:16:07
if you just press C and then you're
00:16:09
doing you know just drag on any line
00:16:12
here it creates a curve which is a
00:16:14
pretty handy tool and then afterwards if
00:16:18
you want to tweak this you know you can
00:16:20
see you can you can change how this
00:16:22
would look better your thing works with
00:16:24
the curve but if you want it to be have
00:16:26
a little more control you can hit the
00:16:28
set key or the C key after you hit the C
00:16:31
key and that gives you these handles
00:16:34
where you can more precisely modify the
00:16:37
curve so again the regular C key C 4
00:16:41
curve to move it around and then set for
00:16:45
a curve to just like really nail it down
00:16:51
that's usually how I work with it I try
00:16:52
to keep the curbs fairly simple a good
00:16:55
rule of thumb I press the C key and the
00:16:58
set key is I try to keep this like
00:17:00
perpendicular to this previous line if
00:17:05
that makes any sense if it goes in like this that just means
00:17:08
that the angle is gonna be nicer it's
00:17:12
hard to explain but I feel like if you
00:17:14
look at it it makes sense if you go to
00:17:16
extreme here
00:17:18
like if you do this like these thing to
00:17:20
not really work that well so I try to
00:17:22
stick to to some more they just call
00:17:26
them conservative curves that just makes
00:17:28
the fabrics look a lot better I think
00:17:31
it's just tweak this a little bit you
00:17:33
can pull it up so like I never really
00:17:35
want to go below perpendicular to the
00:17:38
previous line but you can definitely go
00:17:40
up like this to make the curve a little
00:17:42
more subtle so that's gonna be our front
00:17:46
obviously we're missing half super easy
00:17:49
here in your 2d viewport just hit a
00:17:52
select the fabric right click and then a
00:17:55
bunch of options but the one we're going
00:17:58
to be concerned with is symmetric
00:17:59
pattern with sewing so hit that and then
00:18:03
we get a second piece of fabric so this
00:18:05
piece of fabric is just a duplicate
00:18:07
which is then mirrored over and then we
00:18:09
just position it anywhere now when it's
00:18:12
symmetric with sewing that just means
00:18:14
that first of all it's flipped and it's
00:18:17
linked so it's instance or whatever you
00:18:18
do to one it's gonna be reflected on the
00:18:21
other it doesn't matter which side you
00:18:22
do it on and if you do any kind of
00:18:24
sewing and say it was sewing on a sleeve
00:18:27
here if I had another sleeve that would
00:18:30
automatically be sewn on to this part so
00:18:32
that just again speeds up our workflow
00:18:34
so usually with the smart snapping on
00:18:37
and like you just pull in the center and
00:18:39
then to just give a little bit of
00:18:42
spacing again with the a tool the
00:18:44
transform tool I'll just select my
00:18:46
fabrics and then with the arrow keys you
00:18:48
can just move it out a little bit just
00:18:50
to give yourself a little bit of spacing
00:18:52
there you go now it just looks nice and
00:18:54
clean so obviously again if we were to
00:18:58
sim this right now this is just gonna
00:18:59
fall straight down so we don't want that
00:19:01
so there are a few different things you
00:19:03
can do in order to preserve your fabrics
00:19:06
where they are one thing I like to use
00:19:08
is tacking where if you hold down the W
00:19:12
key and you click on a piece of fabric
00:19:14
you make these orange text I don't know
00:19:18
I don't know if there's a name for them
00:19:20
they're hard to find in the
00:19:21
documentation I just call them like
00:19:22
quick text so if we sim again hit the
00:19:26
space key
00:19:27
these are being held in place you can
00:19:30
clear these if you press ctrl + W now
00:19:33
they're just gonna fall down so that's
00:19:34
one way to detect something in place
00:19:36
while you seem it this is a very common
00:19:38
technique especially when you're doing
00:19:40
fabrics in real life
00:19:41
obviously in real life you can't tech
00:19:43
something in midair hmm so another
00:19:47
popular way to do it in real life is
00:19:49
tacking on to the Avatar itself this one
00:19:53
detect avatar so you just click your
00:19:55
fabric and click on the avatar where you
00:19:57
want it to be tacked and we can do that
00:20:00
for the other one as well there you go
00:20:04
it's base and then it automatically gets
00:20:07
tacked on to the Avatar so this pretty
00:20:10
cool feature what we're gonna do now is
00:20:14
we'll just sew these together and then
00:20:17
we'll do a back side of these afterwards
00:20:20
so the first thing we want to do when we
00:20:23
sew is make sure that you know
00:20:26
everything works the way it's intended
00:20:27
and like a good rule of thumb is that
00:20:30
you want all your lengths to be pretty
00:20:34
much the same you can have a little bit
00:20:37
of variation in the lengths just to give
00:20:40
a more realistic feel because often
00:20:41
times at least that's my philosophy is
00:20:43
when you when you make any fabrics
00:20:46
they're never gonna be like let's say
00:20:47
this was 500 millimeters long this is
00:20:49
never going to be exactly 500 as well
00:20:51
there's like a little bit of difference
00:20:53
but you can't you can't do like if you
00:20:57
want something to fit nice you can't do
00:20:58
500 and like 550 maybe you do this one
00:21:03
is 500 this one is 502 or something like
00:21:05
that you can always vary it it's best to
00:21:08
keep it pretty close on the beginning
00:21:10
and then change it up towards the end so
00:21:13
press the shift and the set key you get
00:21:17
your links I thought that was pretty
00:21:18
close 532 millimeters so you see these
00:21:23
two are both 532 so they're going to be
00:21:26
sewing on to each other perfectly
00:21:29
obviously if we had like the outside
00:21:31
here which is 360 for to the inside this
00:21:34
would crinkle up this is a common trick
00:21:36
if you if you want to create like this
00:21:38
painting or play
00:21:40
in effect that you often like on pleated
00:21:41
skirts for example you would do that
00:21:43
so to Solis on there's there's two kinds
00:21:48
of like methods or tools you can use and
00:21:50
the first one is going to be just the
00:21:53
segment sewing this is the fastest and
00:21:56
easiest sewing tool to use you just
00:21:58
click it any key and you can see there's
00:22:02
this line here that just means that you
00:22:03
can have two sewing lines with the
00:22:05
segment tool on on itself it probably
00:22:10
doesn't make any sense
00:22:11
it just means you can so multiple
00:22:12
fabrics on to this line so if we were to
00:22:15
sew these two together sew this one to
00:22:18
this one you can see now they're sort of
00:22:19
like it's previewing where it would be
00:22:21
sewn if we change this and sew it to the
00:22:25
bottom now we're going to be sewing the
00:22:26
bottom to the front so let me just show
00:22:29
you what happens I'll just go back here
00:22:31
to the 3d view you can hit a or you can
00:22:34
hit Q to go out of whatever tool you
00:22:37
were using when you're in the 3d view
00:22:38
port hold down W to just quickly tech
00:22:40
these on now let's watch a black hole
00:22:43
form so yeah I mean you can kind of
00:22:45
guess what's gonna happen here press
00:22:46
space to seam it and that's just a mess
00:22:48
you know
00:22:49
so is this very very common issue so to
00:22:52
fix it if you have this sewing edit
00:22:57
sewing line tool that's B for that if
00:23:00
you select your tool here and you can
00:23:03
you can right click and you can reverse
00:23:05
your sewing so if you did mess up a
00:23:07
sewing line like this very very easy to
00:23:10
correct or just control B is the hotkey
00:23:13
and now you can see in our viewport this
00:23:15
looks a lot better already
00:23:16
so again is it space and now that gets
00:23:20
sewn on there and we didn't break the
00:23:22
six have the sewing lines or the tacking
00:23:26
on there so let's just remove that so
00:23:28
edit tech is this tool you could just
00:23:31
select the permanent tax remove those
00:23:34
and then hit space again there you go so
00:23:38
now that sits on the what doesn't sit on
00:23:41
the body but these two an hour zone
00:23:42
so later we're gonna be removing this
00:23:44
line here in the middle but again this
00:23:46
is just for ease of use right now so the
00:23:50
easiest way I finally do this like
00:23:52
we're making the bag is like not tracing
00:23:54
this again but actually just duplicating
00:23:56
this so let's hit space to go to sim
00:24:01
mode ctrl W to clear the the quick text
00:24:04
and then we just select these two just
00:24:07
like any other normal selection is
00:24:09
selected with the a tool hold down shift
00:24:12
and then you can say like multiple
00:24:14
fabrics control-c control-v to paste it
00:24:18
over
00:24:19
hold on shift for a specific angle there
00:24:22
you go we've got a second piece of
00:24:24
fabric so in the viewport here as well
00:24:28
you don't have to do this you can also
00:24:30
just a marquee selection with the a tool
00:24:32
enabled and then we just move this to
00:24:35
the back press F to frame it now you can
00:24:40
either rotate this around or you can
00:24:44
right-click it and you say flip
00:24:46
horizontally does the same thing it's
00:24:48
just a little faster especially with the
00:24:50
hotkey ctrl G there we go so now we have
00:24:53
two pieces of fabric and we just want to
00:24:56
sew these together now I want to show
00:24:58
you before was the segment sewing too we
00:25:01
just sew two equal parts together you
00:25:04
can use the segment sewing two of parts
00:25:06
that aren't the same length as well like
00:25:08
I could sew this to that but again that
00:25:12
would look weird you also have the free
00:25:14
sewing tool the free sewing tool is a
00:25:15
more specialized tool when you want to
00:25:17
control let's say I only want sewing
00:25:20
distance that's that long for example
00:25:22
and then I want to show it so that on to
00:25:24
that part there so that's what the free
00:25:27
sewing tool does I'm just to quickly
00:25:29
show you but we're not really going to
00:25:31
be using that a lot so the next step is
00:25:35
just gonna so we're just gonna sew these
00:25:36
together and sometimes it can be hard to
00:25:39
wrap your head around how do things
00:25:41
translate from the 2d view into the 3d
00:25:44
view so if you just simply click on your
00:25:46
mesh you can see okay that's that part
00:25:49
on the front so remember what we did
00:25:52
before with press end for segment sewing
00:25:55
you know we have these two different
00:25:56
sewing lines and we want to make sure we
00:25:57
sew the correct part on each other's or
00:26:00
doesn't like create that black hole
00:26:02
so by selecting this in the 3d viewport
00:26:04
like that we can see okay we would start
00:26:08
from the right hand side and we need to
00:26:10
sew it on to this side here which is
00:26:12
that side that just makes it easier to
00:26:15
find out especially with more complex
00:26:17
fabrics yeah so for this specific case
00:26:19
you know you could probably visualize
00:26:21
that but I have something which does is
00:26:23
not just a simple t-shirt yeah this
00:26:24
would be really practical yeah we're
00:26:26
gonna see that when we do the sleeve
00:26:28
that's a little more complicated but the
00:26:31
cool thing is in marvellous seven
00:26:33
I think they introduced or maybe was
00:26:35
eight they introduced this free sewing
00:26:38
and segment sewing in the 3d viewport so
00:26:41
you know that makes it a lot easier to
00:26:43
visualize but it's just so you have the
00:26:44
option so again press the N key for
00:26:46
segment sewing and then sew those two
00:26:49
parts together now with magic of
00:26:51
symmetry you see this has already been
00:26:53
sewn or already like created the sewing
00:26:55
line here because it's symmetrical with
00:26:58
sewing so hit space to simit and there
00:27:03
we go he's got this nice punch oh that's
00:27:06
poncho so for t-shirts now this is not
00:27:09
going to be so much about specific
00:27:10
fabrics or like how patterns are are
00:27:13
made but we still want to make this you
00:27:16
know fairly close to how it is in real
00:27:18
life
00:27:19
so this back part here you can see this
00:27:21
is quite a big drop here usually there's
00:27:25
more well all the time on people there's
00:27:27
more volume here than there is here and
00:27:29
we want this slight slant down so if you
00:27:32
hit the set key where you can you can
00:27:34
then edit your pattern remember we did
00:27:37
this before we can hit the C key for
00:27:39
curve then we had the set key so we
00:27:41
could edit the individual curves if you
00:27:43
just hit the set key you can select
00:27:46
individual vertices or points which you
00:27:50
can move around and then just move it
00:27:53
like you would normally hold on shift
00:27:57
for versus for snapping and then we can
00:28:01
go into the curve tool and maybe edit
00:28:03
that curve a little bit see it looks a
00:28:05
little weird hit the set key and then we
00:28:10
can just tweak this curve to be a little
00:28:12
more natural for some reason you can
00:28:13
also use the V key for this
00:28:15
so the your said whatever you want to do
00:28:18
sim again now this is a fairly standard
00:28:21
t-shirt or best shirt pattern before fun
00:28:25
time back cool
00:28:27
now next up let's just sew these parts
00:28:29
together so again in four segments
00:28:31
sewing like the faster you get familiar
00:28:34
with the the hotkeys the better off
00:28:37
they're gonna be a marvelous kiss it's
00:28:38
it's so much better to work with hotkeys
00:28:41
in here just because there I mean now
00:28:43
there's a lot of tools but most of the
00:28:44
tools that you'll be using it's fairly
00:28:46
simple and it's always the same tools
00:28:47
over and over again so I would highly
00:28:50
recommend that you familiarize yourself
00:28:51
with with the hotkeys yeah we're also
00:28:54
listening all the hotkeys in the
00:28:55
description as well yeah now if you
00:28:58
because we had a pattern reference here
00:29:00
alright to start off with so we could
00:29:02
see how many points we need to add you
00:29:04
can see we add at this point one two
00:29:05
three four five six points here if you
00:29:08
only edit five and you made your pattern
00:29:11
and you realize oh shoot I didn't have
00:29:13
another point in there so I can make
00:29:15
sleeve you can always go in with the
00:29:18
edit or add point tool you see the X key
00:29:22
just select the point somewhere on the
00:29:24
mesh and now you know you had another
00:29:27
piece of or another point in there so
00:29:30
just that was a quick tip for that
00:29:33
another thing we're just gonna be doing
00:29:36
is to better visualize what this looks
00:29:38
like
00:29:39
out of marvellous once we unite say we
00:29:41
get it in to see brush or Maya where we
00:29:43
add thickness you can add the rendering
00:29:45
of the fabric to the thickness so then
00:29:48
we get a double sided as well and then
00:29:50
we have a little bit of thickness to it
00:29:52
just just makes the previewing a little
00:29:54
more realistic if you will there we go
00:29:58
okay next up we are going to be handling
00:30:01
sleeve so sleeves are it's annoying but
00:30:06
if you have reference for sleeves
00:30:07
they're a lot less annoying so that was
00:30:11
why it's primarily the reason why I made
00:30:13
this beforehand and wanted to provide
00:30:15
this as a reference because sleeves are
00:30:17
and pain in the butt
00:30:18
it's it's such an unintuitive shape you
00:30:21
know it's like how you how you ever
00:30:24
going to be able to visualize this if
00:30:26
you've never made a sleeve before so if
00:30:28
people want to find out reference for something like this how
00:30:30
would they go about that just google
00:30:32
anything pattern like hood pattern or
00:30:37
t-shirt pattern dress shirt pattern
00:30:39
dress pattern on in Google and because
00:30:43
marvelous is being used so much now and
00:30:45
close 3ds being used so much now it's
00:30:48
really easy to find pattern references
00:30:50
sweater pattern anything pattern and
00:30:53
that level typically work yeah I don't
00:30:57
really have any websites anymore that I
00:30:59
go to I usually just use Google they
00:31:01
have most of what I need so to do this
00:31:05
again will do the same basic blocking
00:31:07
technique where we don't use any curves
00:31:09
or anything to start with so when I make
00:31:13
something like this from scratch let's
00:31:16
do that actually you can see it's it's
00:31:18
actually doesn't have like a center
00:31:20
point here for symmetry but that's
00:31:21
usually how I would do it so let's let's
00:31:24
do that just to illustrate how this
00:31:26
would be done so I'll create a point
00:31:28
here one there one straight down to
00:31:31
there and then we'll skip this little
00:31:35
curve in there like this okay with the C
00:31:40
key for curve we can sort of match this
00:31:43
so I'm gonna keep this set key I'm gonna
00:31:46
keep it in this view right now just so I
00:31:48
can match this because sleeves are the
00:31:51
bane of our existence when we make this
00:31:53
so again for this stuff here you can see
00:31:56
now I'm going above perpendicular that's
00:32:01
gonna not flow as nicely into the other
00:32:03
part so you want to try especially when
00:32:05
you have connecting parts like this you
00:32:06
really want to try and keep it pretty
00:32:08
close to perpendicular and then keV is a
00:32:11
nice shape that flows into the other one
00:32:14
something like that cool like that with
00:32:18
our transform tool per se and we'll just
00:32:21
move it over here finally the 3d view
00:32:26
now something I actually haven't covered
00:32:28
like if you click on on your object and
00:32:31
it doesn't like the gizmo doesn't show
00:32:33
up it's a little bit temperamental just
00:32:36
keep clicking it I can see disappeared
00:32:38
there just click it somewhere else and
00:32:39
the gizmo will eventually show
00:32:41
this is something that I don't know I've
00:32:43
been using marvelous for the past five
00:32:46
years and I still don't know how to fix
00:32:48
that but I just keep commission so keep
00:32:53
that there so in order to get the other
00:32:55
side now it's super handy and marvelous
00:32:58
just go to your 2d view hit the set key
00:33:00
and then you can you manipulate these
00:33:02
lines right click this line and then you
00:33:04
say unfold they go then I have the other
00:33:08
side as well like this is assuming it
00:33:10
was perfect from the beginning and
00:33:11
nothing's gonna change we can always go
00:33:13
in and change this curve or change the
00:33:15
sizing of this if we need it to be
00:33:16
different I'm full feature is awesome
00:33:19
yeah it really saves a lot of time you
00:33:22
can do that you could eat you do that
00:33:23
with shirts as well so it's it's pretty
00:33:27
cool alright and then we're just roughly
00:33:30
position this and this is where and f2
00:33:34
zoom in this is where arrangement point
00:33:36
to come in real handy until they added
00:33:39
it where they had the automatic
00:33:40
arrangement points the way I would do it
00:33:42
like right now if I were to sew this
00:33:45
part to this part it wouldn't really
00:33:47
wrap around the arm so usually how I
00:33:49
would do is I would seem it like this
00:33:51
and then it roughly you know gets that
00:33:54
shape there
00:33:55
but with arrangement points you can
00:33:59
actually just turn them on here you can
00:34:01
actually just select your fabric and
00:34:03
select the arrangement point you want it
00:34:05
to wrap - boom and then it's awesome
00:34:07
really quick stuff so again this is an
00:34:09
auto-generated arrangement pattern
00:34:12
because this pose was close enough to
00:34:16
whatever algorithm figures it out if you
00:34:19
have a more extreme pose this this is
00:34:21
not going to work it's not going to
00:34:22
generate this for you so we'll just turn
00:34:24
this off again and then we can move this
00:34:26
into place so sewing on patterns are
00:34:31
just an or like sleeves are just always
00:34:33
annoying making them are annoying the
00:34:35
shape of them more annoying and sewing
00:34:37
them on is annoying so I'll show you why
00:34:41
so now you're gonna this is where like I
00:34:43
don't know spatial mind you have to
00:34:45
train it a little bit to figure out okay
00:34:46
how does it actually work where do I
00:34:48
start the sewing and what's what is it
00:34:49
going to look like so it's not too hard
00:34:52
to figure out this part always
00:34:54
goes up there but then you kind of have
00:34:56
to in your mind like see okay so this
00:34:58
part like we track it around here goes
00:35:01
down there and then eventually this
00:35:04
point here is going to be sewn on to
00:35:06
that point right there and if you keep
00:35:09
an eye on the 2d view want to do this
00:35:10
you can sort of track that line and see
00:35:13
where okay that would go there to there
00:35:15
to there so that's a way to visualize it
00:35:18
again clicking on it in the 3d port so
00:35:21
this is where the free sewing actually
00:35:24
comes in really handy but not just a
00:35:26
regular free sewing this is where the
00:35:28
M&N free sewing tool comes in handy so
00:35:31
Eminem I don't know what it stands for
00:35:33
but what the tool does is that if you
00:35:36
have a surface so quick math this is
00:35:39
around 500 milliliters in length element
00:35:42
millimeters not milliliters so if we
00:35:45
click on this point here right we can
00:35:47
see that it's 503 and like if I wanted
00:35:51
to show this on to another point let's
00:35:52
say this one which is 236 let's do that
00:35:56
the M&M free sewing tool automatically
00:36:00
figures out the spacing here and takes
00:36:04
the 500 millimeters and squeezes them
00:36:07
into 236 so if I saw this on now just to
00:36:12
illustrate this it doesn't look very
00:36:14
nice but trust me it it saves a lot of
00:36:17
pain that's the terrible example anyway
00:36:21
just trust me on this when it actually
00:36:22
like it actually shows it on so this
00:36:24
part here is like nicely fitted and you
00:36:27
can use this for like if you have that
00:36:28
um I don't know I'm not good with
00:36:31
history and numbers like Knights and
00:36:33
like the big like Victorian dresses that
00:36:35
have those like being pouches on the
00:36:38
shoulders that kind of fabric where you
00:36:41
get a lot of puffiness you know that's
00:36:43
how you would do that so this of me with
00:36:45
more extreme them yeah yeah exactly
00:36:47
something which doesn't flow nicely into
00:36:49
each other I guess yeah
00:36:50
so for this again the easiest way to do
00:36:54
this is if you have a clear anchor point
00:36:56
so a clear anchor point is something
00:36:59
like this we can see that two surfaces
00:37:01
meet and we know that this part here
00:37:04
we're gonna have two surfaces and meet
00:37:05
each other
00:37:06
also in this part so that's where we're
00:37:08
gonna start sewing from so if you just make sure to
00:37:12
hit the M&M free sewing tool you see in
00:37:15
the 3d viewport we can actually trace
00:37:16
this around but I find that it doesn't
00:37:19
always work that well when you go all
00:37:21
the way around the surface that can be a
00:37:23
little confusing so if we look at the
00:37:26
entire 2d view now you can just see if
00:37:28
we track up there that's gonna be that
00:37:30
part so we'll start by doing that so
00:37:34
we'll click there then we'll hit enter
00:37:37
and then we'll see ok so where do we go
00:37:40
next
00:37:41
well ok then we go there so we can start
00:37:44
from there and then go over to the other
00:37:46
side and then we would go all the way
00:37:49
around so we kind of have to do that in
00:37:51
one action the way it works is that used
00:37:54
you mark a whole piece hit enter and
00:37:58
then you mark the other second piece so
00:38:00
sometimes this tool can be a little
00:38:02
confusing to use but bear with me so
00:38:06
let's see select that part from the
00:38:09
sleeve all the way over hit enter so
00:38:13
because we started here we know that we
00:38:16
want to start there and then we want to
00:38:19
finish over there so we start there go
00:38:24
top to bottom like that and now you can
00:38:28
see it gives us a little warning saying
00:38:29
that oh you're about twenty nine
00:38:31
millimeters off this is exactly what I
00:38:33
told you not to do in the beginning but
00:38:35
for sleeves sometimes this can work out
00:38:38
so this hit space Oh hit enter then hit
00:38:44
space there you go so now it's been sewn
00:38:50
on and then all we need to do is just
00:38:52
sew these two pieces together hit the
00:38:54
end for a segment sewing and then we can
00:38:56
do that directly in the viewport so it
00:38:58
again and now this t-shirt piece has
00:39:01
been so long and to quickly get your
00:39:04
sleeve on to the other sides you don't
00:39:06
have to do the work twice you just right
00:39:07
click on the pattern symmetric pattern
00:39:10
with sewing and you can see we get some
00:39:12
some sewing lines here so then we just
00:39:14
move it into place real quick
00:39:16
but because now it's already been
00:39:17
flipped to the right side it's been
00:39:20
mindful of trying to get it to not
00:39:22
intersect too much it makes it a lot
00:39:24
easier for us there's hit spacebar to
00:39:27
sew it together yes in it
00:39:29
okay so now we have the basic t-shirt
00:39:31
here so what we can do now is just tweak
00:39:35
it a little bit so if you remember from
00:39:38
our reference you can see we had like
00:39:40
some curves to go in a little bit on the
00:39:42
on the sleeves as well so we'll just do
00:39:45
that by hitting the set key selecting a
00:39:47
piece of it and like just with the arrow
00:39:51
key like moving it in that just tightens
00:39:54
the the sleeve a little bit this is a
00:39:57
really nice way to technique to use just
00:40:00
to refine the design because sometimes
00:40:01
you know you're not gonna get it perfect
00:40:03
the first time no and another thing to keep in mind is
00:40:06
for like teachers and dress shirts is
00:40:08
like the backside here often time use X
00:40:10
you will actually have a you'll find
00:40:13
that it's bigger on the back like this
00:40:17
so we can move it down so just selecting
00:40:20
these parts identical so you know see
00:40:23
this is still 364 364 but the pattern
00:40:26
one for the for the sleeve is gonna be a
00:40:30
little bit bigger so we can go in with
00:40:32
the C key just make this a little deeper
00:40:34
here as well just sort and match this a
00:40:36
little bit better then we can resume it
00:40:39
and then that means that the t-shirt is
00:40:42
not gonna have a drop here at the back a
00:40:43
little bit then we can again with the z
00:40:46
key or set to set key it's confusing
00:40:49
with C and Z select these points and
00:40:52
form-fitted just a tiny bit we'll do
00:40:54
that on the front and on the back as
00:40:56
well that just pulls it in makes a
00:40:59
little bit of a V shape as well usually
00:41:01
for like mail t-shirts not all the time
00:41:03
some mail t-shirts they will they will
00:41:05
have this and you know for if it's a
00:41:07
female kind of shirt what you might want
00:41:10
to do is go in with a curve tool and
00:41:11
form fit it even more to like accentuate
00:41:14
the the silhouette but usually for men
00:41:16
you you don't do that it is crazy how
00:41:19
different a design is just based on yeah
00:41:22
or you know it's just it's just a tiny
00:41:24
bit sometimes it's just five millimeters
00:41:26
and it makes a big difference changes
00:41:27
are from
00:41:28
very very regular t-shirt you look more
00:41:30
heroic - more feminine right away yeah
00:41:32
so now we can get started with some of
00:41:35
the detail work this is really you know
00:41:36
this is this is the basics this is most
00:41:39
of what you need to know but we can just
00:41:40
take it a little step further so with
00:41:43
the set key we want to make your color
00:41:44
so usually the way you would make a
00:41:46
color in real life is you just make like
00:41:48
a straight bar you know like this and
00:41:50
then you just sew it on I find that in
00:41:53
marble is most the time that gives me a
00:41:55
result where the colors that pops out
00:41:57
too much so what I found is if you hit
00:41:59
the set key select the line here don't
00:42:04
worry about the second line because it's
00:42:05
symmetric so it's already selected
00:42:06
select this one hold shift and sometimes
00:42:09
we add it to the selection then what you
00:42:12
can do is just right click on any line
00:42:13
there and say offset as a pattern
00:42:16
outline now you can see that's gonna be
00:42:19
creating an actual outline of the
00:42:21
pattern so with you 15:18 let's do 18
00:42:28
millimeters so it's gonna create this
00:42:29
part then an important thing is you want
00:42:32
to turn on create internal lines I'll
00:42:36
show you why doesn't make sense to just
00:42:38
explain it so hit OK and now we have
00:42:40
this part so we sim this again we now
00:42:43
have a color but it's a little hard to
00:42:45
distinguish it that's why we made the
00:42:47
internal one so the internal line is
00:42:49
purely a guide for us to cut this piece
00:42:51
off because right now these are actually
00:42:52
one merged piece so hit the set Keegan
00:42:55
select that line shift select that line
00:42:59
right click and say cut and sew so this
00:43:02
really easy way to create additional
00:43:04
pieces of fabric to give you or your
00:43:07
clothing more detail just assume that
00:43:10
like that and then we can do what we did
00:43:13
before for the for the sleeve we just
00:43:17
select this part right click and say
00:43:20
merge don't worry about the angle
00:43:21
doesn't matter here and we'll do the
00:43:24
same thing here the same merge there you
00:43:26
go you can always go in and you can
00:43:28
adjust this so it looks a little more
00:43:30
perfect
00:43:31
and then in the three of you hit the end
00:43:35
key and they would just need to sew
00:43:37
these parts together so we're speeding
00:43:41
up a little bit more now because we're
00:43:42
just going over the same kind of tools
00:43:44
that we've been using since the
00:43:45
beginning it's based the semen and now
00:43:48
we actually have a collar you know with
00:43:49
a little bit of detail work here so
00:43:52
another way to add detail work is to
00:43:55
utilize the internal lines the internal
00:43:57
lines can be used for more than just
00:43:59
cutting things off so one way I like to
00:44:02
detail things is by adding internal
00:44:04
lines and then varying the pressure
00:44:06
around them so a good example of that
00:44:09
let's do a sleeve for example so what is
00:44:13
some internal line so an internal line
00:44:14
is just yeah it's a line that's internal
00:44:18
it's just it's like a it's like a sewing
00:44:20
line into the flow basically but you can
00:44:23
use it for a lot of things like you can
00:44:24
sew other pieces of fabric onto an
00:44:26
internal line you can use internal lines
00:44:28
to create more detail by like embedding
00:44:32
it but it kind of works like a sewing
00:44:34
line but so it's not a visual thing it
00:44:36
actually changes yeah it's not just a
00:44:39
preview thing so if we with the set key
00:44:42
we just select this part and this part
00:44:45
is automatically gonna get selected as
00:44:46
well and then we'll do shift select on
00:44:49
the back as well and now these are
00:44:50
selected so right click so instead of
00:44:53
saying officer offset as pattern outline
00:44:55
we're gonna offset as internal line so
00:44:58
we can see this actually offsets it
00:45:00
internally what we can do is use a
00:45:02
reverse direction and offset it
00:45:04
externally it doesn't make sense for
00:45:06
this shirt here but I'll show you in a
00:45:08
second what we can use that so let's do
00:45:11
eight no years so hit okay and now we've
00:45:16
added seven millimeters around there
00:45:19
okay so we select these internal lines
00:45:23
now might you actually do hits there you
00:45:27
go you're gonna have this property
00:45:30
editor editor over here we have full
00:45:32
strength and fold angle so that just
00:45:35
with that selector you can select your
00:45:37
internal line and say so 180 is 180
00:45:41
degrees which means it doesn't nothing
00:45:44
like it right now just lie
00:45:45
on the surface but if you change this to
00:45:47
something like 200 270 seem again you
00:45:51
can see that we actually start to cut
00:45:53
into the fabric a little more to make
00:45:56
this a little more extreme we can add
00:45:59
that to the tops of the sleeves as well
00:46:03
so we're going to right click so with
00:46:06
the set key select the curves right
00:46:08
click and say offset as internal line
00:46:09
seven millimeters with what we had
00:46:11
before now they're already selected set
00:46:15
them to 200 and then swim again and now
00:46:18
we get you know it's kind of like okay
00:46:20
we've added a little bit of sewing
00:46:21
detail in there so the good way this a
00:46:23
bit cheated in in Marvelous Designer it
00:46:26
just makes it look more realistic it
00:46:28
just adds more details instead of have
00:46:29
to sculpt this and later on yeah so like
00:46:33
we did with like we did with collar will
00:46:37
do the offset as pattern outlined for
00:46:39
the sleeves and the bottom of this shirt
00:46:42
as well so you know attitude lexing with
00:46:46
shift right click offset as pattern
00:46:48
outline will stick to the 18 millimeters
00:46:51
remember to create as an internal line
00:46:53
because we'll use that internal line as
00:46:54
a guide to cut it off that's been
00:46:57
created so just select these slit that
00:47:02
right-click on there say couldn't so
00:47:04
that cuts it off and it shows it on same
00:47:08
and again and now we've added more
00:47:10
detail you know anything about this is
00:47:11
you do have to go in and manually sew
00:47:16
these together so with the segment
00:47:18
sewing tool I just sew this part to this
00:47:19
part and so this part this part this
00:47:23
part should go the back part I believe
00:47:28
and if it's confusing in the 3d viewport
00:47:31
or in the 2d viewport remember you can
00:47:32
always go into the 3d viewport and so
00:47:35
these things together space sim let's
00:47:39
base them for space to simulate and now
00:47:42
you know the t-shirt is starting to come
00:47:44
together so an additional tool you can
00:47:48
use if you aren't getting the Foles that
00:47:52
you that you really want I forgot to cut
00:47:57
these
00:47:59
crunch so let's do that so ignore what I
00:48:03
just said and we'll get back to that in
00:48:05
like two seconds okay everything is
00:48:07
going to go cool is the use of elastics
00:48:11
elastics is is a really cool tool it
00:48:14
just yeah it like it just makes whatever
00:48:16
line you select like a rubber band so
00:48:18
just pulls in on itself so with a set
00:48:20
tool like the Edit I never you got the
00:48:23
error and pattern tool to select shift
00:48:25
select these two here and then again in
00:48:27
the property editor just say elastics on
00:48:30
there you go and now yes it's super
00:48:33
girly going to bed dress shirt or
00:48:36
something we're from really cool to
00:48:37
really lame but what you can do is if
00:48:41
you do select the elastics here so this
00:48:43
is just the default
00:48:44
um the ratio is set to 80 I finally
00:48:47
changing the strength is minimal what it
00:48:50
does I usually just change the ratio so this
00:48:53
is just a cheated a little bit all it
00:48:54
said it like 98 something high it just
00:48:59
adds a little bit of undulation down
00:49:01
here at the bottom so it doesn't look as
00:49:03
perfect but it just helps create a
00:49:06
little bit of variation it's not very
00:49:08
realistic to do this but I just find it
00:49:10
helps sometimes you can find though when
00:49:13
you do these kind of changes that
00:49:14
everything messes up and you have to
00:49:16
like redo your sim so let's say that
00:49:18
this was like a black hole it's really
00:49:19
hard to create it on purpose
00:49:21
but let's say okay super messed up what
00:49:23
you can do is you can select your
00:49:25
fabrics in the three of you port and
00:49:28
right click and say reset 3d arrangement
00:49:30
that's gonna put it where it was before
00:49:33
just moving into place again and hit
00:49:38
ctrl G to flip horizontally same again
00:49:41
and that just sort like forces it to
00:49:43
recent from the beginning so sometimes
00:49:46
can be annoying if you have super
00:49:47
advanced fabrics so just make sure to
00:49:49
save pretty regularly and how do you
00:49:52
drag the materials there with it such as
00:49:54
- left left mouse button yeah just so
00:49:57
like you select any fabric oops
00:50:00
like that you just drag it like that no
00:50:02
I mean like the skull it's almost like
00:50:03
you have like a hand which moves to
00:50:05
fabric you can adjust your fabrics right
00:50:08
so here when you're in Sim mode you can
00:50:10
move the
00:50:11
like this that's regular like you just
00:50:14
insane mode you hit the cue or the age
00:50:17
button and then that gives you you're
00:50:19
sort of like drag selection tool furnace
00:50:22
yeah yeah I think we haven't covered
00:50:24
that until now but yeah that's how you
00:50:26
would drag it around so next up we're
00:50:30
gonna cover the steam tool like this is
00:50:31
a tool I'm kind of reluctant to use most
00:50:33
of the time because it's like obviously
00:50:35
we're doing 3d so were cheating already
00:50:36
but this is really cheating what the
00:50:39
steam tool does is like exactly like a
00:50:41
normal iron in real life it can it can
00:50:44
iron out a lot of folds so let's say we
00:50:46
had folds here that we didn't like you
00:50:48
can go into your 2d view selected here
00:50:50
if that's where our fold is then just
00:50:54
select this you're getting your
00:50:56
shrinkage so how much it's gonna pull
00:50:58
together besides your brush and the
00:51:00
hardness and percentage I usually leave
00:51:01
these by default and then you can just
00:51:03
sort of paint on this so you can do it
00:51:05
while simming is activated so you can
00:51:07
real-time you can see the change so like
00:51:10
then it starts to pull in if you
00:51:12
activate this tool might be a little
00:51:14
easier to see I can see we're creating
00:51:16
tension in here this good color still
00:51:20
good color but slightly bad we wanted to
00:51:21
be as blue as possible but we just keep
00:51:25
painting here you know you can see we
00:51:26
start to pull the fabric in now we get
00:51:28
to create more folds instead of getting
00:51:30
rid of them it's a really cool tool I
00:51:33
would using I would use it sparingly but
00:51:35
it definitely has this use cases just
00:51:38
quickly wanted to cover that and it's
00:51:40
just undo all of that there you go
00:51:43
like I said it's not something that I
00:51:45
tend to use a lot sometimes I'll go over
00:51:47
like a little piece of my fabric and
00:51:49
just like quickly with the with the
00:51:52
steam tool just to make sure that you
00:51:54
know nothing is all messed up alright so
00:51:57
the fabric being in the dis condition
00:52:00
now we want to like get towards
00:52:02
finalizing it so let's merge these
00:52:05
things together and that's as simple as
00:52:06
what we did before we just slip and
00:52:08
select edit pattern tool with rosette
00:52:11
key right click on a line and say merge
00:52:14
it's gonna merge that over there
00:52:17
so offset it a little bit to the center
00:52:19
we can do that here as well merge
00:52:22
that the a key at the transformation
00:52:27
tool at that a little bit now these have
00:52:30
been merged so you know I would
00:52:31
recommend that we do that for these as
00:52:32
well just to keep them consistent or
00:52:36
sometimes you can't find any merge stuff
00:52:38
that your sewing line actually
00:52:41
disappears because now it's a that's a
00:52:43
new fabric if you if you merge across
00:52:45
something where there's no longer a
00:52:47
connection point and then it just falls
00:52:49
apart so then you have to resort but you
00:52:52
know like I feel like the trade off you
00:52:54
get by doing symmetric sewing is well
00:52:55
worth waiting with until the end when
00:52:58
you know you know ok I'm done with all
00:52:59
of my changes there you go so now these
00:53:03
have been sewn together so you know by
00:53:06
this point it's pretty much a finished
00:53:07
t-shirt a t-shirt is not that advanced
00:53:09
but I feel like it helps you cover a lot
00:53:11
of the different pieces and tools you
00:53:13
need in order to get started with
00:53:15
marvellous but there is another use case
00:53:17
for the internal tool or the internal
00:53:19
and that we haven't covered so we'll
00:53:22
just create like a little breast pocket
00:53:23
for him right here just to show you what
00:53:25
else you can use it for so the internal
00:53:28
line lives up here that's just where you
00:53:30
draw out the internal line it's not just
00:53:32
something that you can generate from
00:53:33
something you can actually like you can
00:53:34
trace this you know around inside if you
00:53:37
want to complex shapes so for a breast
00:53:40
pocket we'll just keep it fairly simple
00:53:42
and we'll just make it a square or like
00:53:46
a rectangle and then what we can do is
00:53:49
with a again you select the inside of it
00:53:52
you just say you right-click and Oh
00:53:56
still the set key select the line of it
00:53:59
and then you can offset or clone it as a
00:54:03
pattern so now it's been cloned like
00:54:06
it's been stamped out now it's super
00:54:08
easy now we have our breast part you
00:54:10
could always detail this more just hit
00:54:12
in and then we can so the different
00:54:14
sides on here remember don't sew it on
00:54:18
like that so done like that now can sew that on
00:54:21
there any space now we cloak breast
00:54:24
pocket there so a really cool thing
00:54:26
again you know with everything where we
00:54:28
have internal lines now we can start
00:54:30
generating more internal lines for
00:54:32
detailing
00:54:33
so with the set key you just marquee
00:54:36
over this can right-click it and then
00:54:39
you can say offset as internal line will
00:54:42
stick with the seven millimeters just
00:54:44
offset it internally like this and then
00:54:47
please select these now you can change
00:54:50
the fold angle let's do two twenty this
00:54:52
time and then we can simit again so now
00:54:55
creates an extra bit of detail so you
00:54:59
know this is pretty close to like the
00:55:00
end of this fabric now so then we can
00:55:03
start playing around with different
00:55:05
properties of the fabrics so first off
00:55:08
you just hit a and then select
00:55:11
everything you get into your your
00:55:14
fabrics here so these are like the
00:55:16
folding strength and elastics that we
00:55:18
talked about before now if what you can
00:55:22
also do is you can change the the
00:55:24
particle distance kind of like we did
00:55:26
with the now hidden reference sheet here
00:55:29
so this one we made lower res by
00:55:31
increasing it for these other ones what
00:55:33
we can do is we can actually make them
00:55:35
higher risk so by decreasing the
00:55:38
particle distance so again we can so we
00:55:41
need to select our fabric and then we go
00:55:43
down to particle distance so for this
00:55:46
one like while I'm still seaming and
00:55:47
like we're finding stuff I'll keep it to
00:55:49
like ten and then once I'm ready to
00:55:51
finalize all lower this to maybe five or
00:55:53
even three and then it gets quite quite
00:55:57
high res so just same it again and then
00:55:59
we still like we so all the details now
00:56:01
we get a little nicer result what you
00:56:04
can do for something like a breast
00:56:05
pocket here as well you could
00:56:07
individually select this piece for
00:56:09
example and then you could change the
00:56:13
particle distance for this one to
00:56:14
something like five because maybe you
00:56:16
wanted to allocate like more detail just
00:56:19
to the breast pocket for example then
00:56:23
what you can do is you can define how
00:56:27
your fabrics like what kind of fabric it
00:56:29
is and that's pretty easy by just
00:56:30
selecting the fabric selected and then
00:56:34
you can change the presets so you know
00:56:36
we can't go over all the presets but you
00:56:38
feel free to miss around with these you
00:56:39
can do like denim raw and then if you do
00:56:42
it in sim mode at the same time you sort
00:56:45
of get like
00:56:46
feedback featherweight and nylon is
00:56:48
really good for a lot of crinkly details
00:56:51
you have leather cowhide to puff it out
00:56:57
a little bit maybe good for like a
00:56:58
leather jacket exit kind of cool you
00:57:01
really dramatic differences you have
00:57:02
between them yeah like if you go to
00:57:04
something like silk silk chiffon it
00:57:06
folds down it doesn't actually wrinkle a
00:57:08
lot but the fabric comes really heavy
00:57:10
kinda like for curtains and stuff like
00:57:12
that so you know that's how you would do
00:57:14
that but we'll just keep it to default
00:57:16
simulation for now one advantage of the
00:57:18
full simulation is that it's actually a
00:57:19
lot faster to sim compared to the other
00:57:21
ones as well and then just to cover some
00:57:25
guess some bonus tools that that you
00:57:28
might be needing as well the first one
00:57:31
is gonna be the UV editor so once you're
00:57:33
done with your fabrics here just ignore
00:57:36
that one for now you can actually well
00:57:39
ignore it so much that will delete it
00:57:41
there you go because we don't need it
00:57:43
anymore we've done our work is pretty
00:57:44
Nord you can go into a UV editor and
00:57:47
just right click it's a fiddy UV into
00:57:49
unified tile so that just fits it into
00:57:51
the first yuri tile you pull into Maya
00:57:53
blender whatever this is gonna sit here
00:57:56
the way we usually work with is
00:57:58
production is that we have a dedicated
00:57:59
marvelous tile or UV set so this is
00:58:02
going to be one UV set this doesn't need
00:58:03
to be perfect will create another UV set
00:58:06
in something like Maya where we lay it
00:58:08
out properly but this is just make sure
00:58:10
that we can always jump between Maya and
00:58:12
marvellous and we can transfer his
00:58:14
attributes like the mesh based on you
00:58:16
v's if you don't know what any of that
00:58:18
means don't worry about it
00:58:20
it's cool for production the other part
00:58:23
is gonna be the sculpt tool which is
00:58:25
probably the worst sculpt tools you'll
00:58:27
ever use but if you do have changes like
00:58:30
this you don't have access to see brush
00:58:32
or sculpting and blender whatever it is
00:58:34
and you just want to do some quick fixes
00:58:35
inside a marvelous this tool is great
00:58:37
for that usually what I've used it for
00:58:39
is used to grab brush here you can just
00:58:43
take a piece and like let's say you get
00:58:45
weird intersections just move that out
00:58:47
of the way a little bit or make him into
00:58:50
like a weird Spider Man that's very nice
00:58:52
right and then you jump out of sculpt
00:58:54
mode again that's gonna stay there
00:58:56
except if you simulate it's gonna go
00:58:58
away so it
00:59:00
use it sparingly but for adjusting my
00:59:02
patterns a little bit and that's about
00:59:05
it yes not to see brush replacement no
00:59:07
definitely not but it does help you with
00:59:09
just making small tweaks and you can go
00:59:11
in and scope we have a more in-depth
00:59:12
video on this it's also free in the
00:59:14
