Moneron Island is a beautiful nature park and one of the phenomena of the Russian Far East,

We start our tour of the island from Chuprov Bay. It is not only the gateway to Moneron, but also its most

The most serious changes in the landforms occurred after a powerful earthquake in 1971, called the Moneron earthquake.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the island came under Japanese jurisdiction and began to be actively inhabited.

A weather station was built in 1910,

which is still in operation today, and an underwater telegraph cable was
