00:00:10
Well, hello model car fans. Welcome to
00:00:12
the muscle car modeler. My name is Ral
00:00:14
and this week I'm working a bit more on
00:00:16
my uh 62 Corvette uh from Rell. This is
00:00:20
the special edition kit. Here's the box
00:00:22
art for this one for those of you guys
00:00:23
that may not be familiar with the kit.
00:00:26
And uh really not doing anything crazy
00:00:28
on this one. I'm just uh building it and
00:00:30
enjoying it. So, you know, as it's uh
00:00:33
progressing. But before I jump too far
00:00:35
into this particular build, let's take a
00:00:37
moment mention my sponsor, Hobby Nut
00:00:39
Models, who's having a Christmas sale
00:00:41
going on. So, there'll be a link in the
00:00:42
video description below, but he's got
00:00:44
some discounted kits going on and as
00:00:46
he's trying to get more inventory in.
00:00:48
So, there's some pretty good deals to be
00:00:50
had there. So, check them out. Uh I'd
00:00:52
appreciate it. Uh when it comes to this
00:00:55
one, um I got a lot of stuff done.
00:00:58
There's a few things I wanted to have
00:01:00
done before uh I made this video, but
00:01:02
I've kind of run out of time and it's
00:01:04
time to make the video, but uh I got a
00:01:07
lot of time to work on it. But, uh I
00:01:09
really hadn't shown it since I last did
00:01:11
it. But, uh I did get the body clear
00:01:13
coated after repainting it um and
00:01:15
getting it all on there and getting the
00:01:18
decals on the front. Um those look
00:01:21
pretty good. Uh the the line that I was
00:01:23
fighting with is is very subtle. So some
00:01:27
angles you can see it, some angles you
00:01:29
can't. To my surprise, the decals are a
00:01:32
little bit bigger than the letters, but
00:01:34
the the bulges, they kind of, you know,
00:01:36
highlighted and everything. So getting
00:01:38
her together. This front bumper though,
00:01:41
um tight fit. Really tight fit. And I
00:01:46
didn't think too much about actually
00:01:47
test fitting this one before um I did
00:01:50
it. But uh you know she's in there, but
00:01:52
it is tight. Doesn't quite line up right
00:01:54
here on both sides. But uh not much I
00:01:57
can do about that at this point. Could
00:01:59
fill it in, smooth it, you know, make it
00:02:01
a little bit better. But this one's
00:02:03
right out of the box. So it's pretty
00:02:05
much exactly how it is. Uh there's the
00:02:07
fuel injection emblem right there, the
00:02:08
decals. Um the molding here,
00:02:12
you know, there's rockers I've got.
00:02:13
Those aren't glued on. There's some trim
00:02:15
that still hasn't been put on this
00:02:16
thing. Uh rear's done. This is another
00:02:19
piece that's another tight fit um with
00:02:21
the, you know, paint buildup and clear,
00:02:23
I'm sure, but I didn't test fit that
00:02:25
either before I put that in. Uh tail
00:02:27
lights are all on there. This fit
00:02:29
beautifully. So, a lot of things going
00:02:31
on, but you know, a little bit uh I
00:02:34
still need to do bare metal foil u these
00:02:37
items. So, right, these spears here and
00:02:40
right around here and the waterfall. So,
00:02:42
a couple little pieces of bare metal
00:02:44
foil. And I got to black out the hole
00:02:45
inside. I haven't done that yet. Usually
00:02:47
I've had that done by this point, but I
00:02:50
didn't get that far yet. And one of the
00:02:53
reasons though was when I realized, you
00:02:55
know, putting the chrome in here, um,
00:02:57
it's all exposed. So, I'm like, you know
00:02:58
what? I might as well get the chrome in
00:03:00
there cuz I'm going to be blacking out
00:03:01
all of that as well behind the
00:03:03
headlights. And same thing with the tail
00:03:04
lights and all these pins, you know,
00:03:06
that come through the body. So, that's
00:03:09
all going to get blacked out. So, I
00:03:10
decided, you know what? Let me, you
00:03:12
know, put the chrome on first and then
00:03:15
I'll do that. Then while I was at it, I
00:03:16
put the headlights in. Uh I wanted to
00:03:18
see how she looked and everything and
00:03:20
clean it up. There's still some little
00:03:22
areas where, you know, I've got glue
00:03:24
that needs to come off. So, matter of
00:03:27
fact, there's some right there.
00:03:29
[snorts]
00:03:30
Looking at my camera lens and seeing it
00:03:33
on there, uh much easier to see than,
00:03:36
you know, with my naked eye, apparently
00:03:38
getting old. But, uh, you know, that's
00:03:41
really excited about the way this is.
00:03:43
Hood's fitting. That's always a scare.
00:03:46
Um, with the clear and whatnot, it
00:03:49
builds up kind of tight, but that that's
00:03:50
fitting really nicely. And same thing,
00:03:53
got to black out the bottom. But, uh,
00:03:55
headlights are in there. The waterfall
00:03:57
that goes right down this console,
00:03:59
which, you know, leads me to the
00:04:00
interior, which is half done, but that's
00:04:03
going to go right there. So, got to put
00:04:06
some bare metal foil on that as well.
00:04:08
So, that's one of the next things I need
00:04:10
to do. But, uh, the interior, um, simple
00:04:14
black, the pedals and the shifter with
00:04:17
the white shift knob and, you know,
00:04:19
silver painting the part of the console,
00:04:21
which really isn't a console, but
00:04:24
getting all this together. Now, I had
00:04:27
one little issue when I was painting my
00:04:30
dash.
00:04:32
Um, it was mounted like this and I
00:04:34
forgot to flip it over just like that.
00:04:36
really flip it over and make sure I got
00:04:38
paint on this back lip here and on the
00:04:40
back of this. So, there was some white
00:04:42
exposed there. And then the mold lines
00:04:45
were a little bit obvious. So, I decided
00:04:46
I'm going to sand those and repaint the
00:04:49
dash. So, that kind of delayed me
00:04:51
because I was actually doing painting on
00:04:54
a couple other cars. So, I did a lot of
00:04:57
semig gloss black uh today. So, this is
00:04:59
one of the things got painted. So,
00:05:01
that's why the dash isn't done. I don't
00:05:03
have the decals on it, the silver trim
00:05:05
or anything. It was I ran into that
00:05:07
delay. Uh door panels were pretty much
00:05:09
ready. They were already painted. They
00:05:11
just need the foil and the silver trim,
00:05:12
but I put the red in the doors right
00:05:15
there. Um those are the reflectors for
00:05:17
when the doors open. So, you can see the
00:05:18
doors open. Pretty cool. Uh steering
00:05:22
wheel. It's pretty much ready for the
00:05:24
the painting. Um a lot of the trim parts
00:05:27
here, but that kind of stalled finishing
00:05:29
this the chassis though. this thing. Um,
00:05:33
loving this. So, there's the engine, the
00:05:37
manual I got the shocks painted
00:05:40
gold. Steering linkages painted that uh
00:05:43
more of an iron color exhaust. Blackout
00:05:46
in the tips here. Uh, gold shocks. Um,
00:05:50
getting it all together. The leaf
00:05:52
springs and just some of the details
00:05:55
here. There's a decal on the filter
00:05:57
there. If you can see it, you can
00:05:58
definitely see it from that side.
00:06:01
um painted around the rim here for the
00:06:05
body color because the rims on these
00:06:07
were body color and
00:06:10
a lot of trim here and a lot of little
00:06:12
decals. There's one on the bottle here.
00:06:14
Uh the fuel filter, which is what that
00:06:16
actually is, is the fuel filter cuz
00:06:18
that's the fuel inlet uh decal there.
00:06:21
Then the the two on the generator here
00:06:25
and then um right on the radiator as
00:06:28
well. But getting all this stuff to fit
00:06:29
and getting all the hoses to fit. Um, a
00:06:32
little bit of um, black wash on the
00:06:35
valve covers and all over the fuel
00:06:37
injection stuff and even the steering
00:06:40
column and steering uh, steering gear
00:06:43
right there. So, lot a lot of little
00:06:46
things here that make this u quite a
00:06:48
bit. Now, I still got decals for the uh,
00:06:51
white line tires. um emblems that go in
00:06:54
the very center there and you know the
00:06:56
Corvette lettering and stuff or
00:06:57
Chevrolet.
00:06:58
But this is uh looking really good. Now
00:07:01
this is kind of a tight fit here and you
00:07:02
got to get that steering to go into this
00:07:04
thing. Um but getting all of this to fit
00:07:07
it's a a bit of a a struggle to get it
00:07:10
quite fit, but I'm following the
00:07:11
instructions in the order that they want
00:07:13
you to do it. But extremely happy with
00:07:18
the the way this is looking. So
00:07:20
hopefully it fits together really nice.
00:07:22
The other ones I've seen built up look
00:07:24
great. So, uh, she's coming along. Just
00:07:27
some just a few pieces. Matter of fact,
00:07:29
I don't think I have any parts. Well,
00:07:32
the glass.
00:07:33
Uh, yeah, that's pretty much it. The the
00:07:36
glass and, you know, maybe another part
00:07:38
or two cuz the mirrors are here. It's
00:07:40
got this really nice dash mounted mirror
00:07:42
if I don't drop it and lose it. Um, but
00:07:45
that mounts right on top of the dash.
00:07:47
So, that's pretty slick. And then the
00:07:50
tray. But I got a lot of uh things that
00:07:52
I need to foil on this thing. Uh black
00:07:56
trim on these rockers, which these if
00:07:59
you look at how they're shaped. A lot of
00:08:01
the chrome on this thing is very
00:08:03
specific to left and right are exactly
00:08:05
where it goes. So you got to pay really
00:08:08
close attention. So yeah, you can see
00:08:09
how it's shaped follows that. You got to
00:08:12
glue that down. But being that I got to
00:08:14
flex this out, I think I'll glue that
00:08:15
after the body is on and paint that.
00:08:19
Same thing with these tail lights.
00:08:21
They're marked specifically where they
00:08:23
go, but I don't think they're marked
00:08:25
right. So, I was just kind of fumbling
00:08:27
around with them, seeing which ones look
00:08:29
better, which way they go, and how they
00:08:31
fit. And the bumpers are also left and
00:08:34
right specific um as far as the
00:08:36
instructions say, but they seem like
00:08:38
they would interchange, but maybe the
00:08:41
angle on this side was just a little
00:08:43
different where I could I could tweak
00:08:44
it. Those are obviously left and right
00:08:47
specific. Um, nothing really on the
00:08:49
front. These by part number are, but I
00:08:53
couldn't really figure out if they
00:08:55
actually were or not. They seem like
00:08:56
they are, but once I got them glued in,
00:08:58
um, but even mockup, when you're sliding
00:09:00
them in there to get them in and out of
00:09:02
there, they don't come in and out very
00:09:03
well. It's hard to get them out. So, no,
00:09:05
they're glued in now, though. Same
00:09:07
thing. This bumper is glued in now. So,
00:09:10
pretty happy with the way this thing is
00:09:12
coming out. So, maybe the next time you
00:09:14
see it, it'll probably be completely
00:09:15
done. Um, not sure, you know, how much
00:09:18
more time we're going to get this week.
00:09:20
Um, may do a little bit more to it
00:09:22
tonight, but I needed to get this this
00:09:24
uh filmed for you so that we had
00:09:26
something here to to show you for
00:09:28
Wednesday. So, we'll get back on it
00:09:31
here. And I did, like I said, this
00:09:33
weekend I did get some time put some
00:09:35
primer on a couple other projects. Uh,
00:09:37
the bullet Mustang that I talked about,
00:09:39
which got primer and a lot of semig
00:09:41
gloss black. Another one that's been
00:09:43
stalled, been sitting for a long time. I
00:09:45
got some primer on that one. Uh I'll
00:09:47
reveal that one at a later date. I don't
00:09:49
know if I'll actually build it on the
00:09:50
channel where I just show you the
00:09:52
finished build on that one as well. Um
00:09:55
that's kind of how some of these go is,
00:09:56
you know, I I don't really have a
00:09:59
pressure or a timeline. I just do it as
00:10:01
I do it and as I feel. So, you know, no
00:10:05
real pressure there on my side. But
00:10:07
that's just how you know the content
00:10:08
keeps coming your way. So anyways, you
00:10:10
guys, thank you for tuning in,
00:10:12
subscribing, all your comments and
00:10:14
everything, your likes, shares, um,
00:10:16
subscribes of course. And you guys, you
00:10:18
have a wonderful weekend and I'll see
00:10:19
you next time.
