00:00:01
hey what is up guys this is Eli in
00:00:03
today's tutorial we are going to make a
00:00:05
low poly house or Building inside of
00:00:07
Cinema 4D so stay
00:00:09
[Music]
00:00:13
tuned to start off I would like to give
00:00:15
you a side note I will not go into too
00:00:18
much detail about all the basics about
00:00:20
Cinema 4D so if this is the first time
00:00:22
you're using Cinema 4D I would recommend
00:00:25
checking out a basic tutorial so you
00:00:27
know the basics and you can just follow
00:00:29
along
00:00:30
so to start off I would like to give you
00:00:32
a quick tip on using the viewport camera
00:00:35
many people use these small buttons on
00:00:37
top of the viewport and they work
00:00:39
perfectly fine but they're a little bit
00:00:41
small to reach and it's not very
00:00:42
practical to use in the long run instead
00:00:45
some people use the one two and three
00:00:47
keys on the numpad but I prefer to use
00:00:50
the ALT key on my keyboard or option on
00:00:53
the Mac just hold down the left Mouse
00:00:55
button to rotate the middle Mouse button
00:00:58
to pan and the right Mouse button to
00:01:00
zoom in or out also for this tutorial we
00:01:03
are going to adjust some of the project
00:01:06
settings you can do this by hitting
00:01:08
command or control and D on the keyboard
00:01:11
and down here at the right side of the
00:01:13
screen you can scroll down and change
00:01:16
the color to 80% gray this will give our
00:01:19
objects a default color of this gray and
00:01:21
it's a little bit easier to work with in
00:01:23
my opinion it just looks better overall
00:01:26
up next I also like to adjust the
00:01:28
display settings so if you go up here at
00:01:31
display you can pick the second one Gage
00:01:33
shading lines so now when you look at
00:01:36
the cube you can see the lines of the
00:01:38
edges so you have a better view about
00:01:41
what is going on inside of your project
00:01:43
in the long run so with our Cube
00:01:45
selected let's go into this details
00:01:47
panel again and let's add some segments
00:01:51
to the cube let's make three at each
00:01:53
side and and just make it five at the Z
00:01:57
segments now when you dragon drop one of
00:02:00
these yellow knobs you can stretch the
00:02:02
cube in any way you like let's make it
00:02:05
something like this a tall and slightly
00:02:06
squeezed in Cube all right so up next
00:02:10
you need to make the object editable in
00:02:12
order to manipulate the polygons and all
00:02:14
the edges and points you can do this by
00:02:17
clicking this button at the top or just
00:02:19
hitting C on the keyboard now go into
00:02:22
polygons mode and now you can select any
00:02:24
polygon you want we are going to select
00:02:27
the middle row at the top you can simply
00:02:29
do this by clicking and holding shift
00:02:32
and now drag up the Green Arrow to raise
00:02:35
these polygons this will be our basic
00:02:37
shape for the roof now if we zoom in you
00:02:40
can see a little bit of weird shading on
00:02:42
top of the roof this is because Cinema
00:02:45
4D by default kind of rounds all the
00:02:48
edges for you but we're working with
00:02:50
very straight edges so it gets a little
00:02:52
bit weird you can easily fix this by
00:02:55
selecting the font tag at the side here
00:02:58
and just deleting it now all the shapes
00:03:00
will be exactly hard like we drew them
00:03:03
great so now we want to pick our life
00:03:05
selection tool and make sure only select
00:03:08
visible elements is checked down here
00:03:11
and let's drag all over our roof and
00:03:14
hold shift if you need to add more
00:03:15
polygons now you can right click and
00:03:19
select extrude or just simply hit D on
00:03:22
the keyboard it's a little bit easier
00:03:24
and drag on top of the roof until you
00:03:26
see it get a little bit
00:03:28
thicker down here at the right you can
00:03:30
see the number about how thick the
00:03:32
Extrusion is let's make it about 5 cm in
00:03:36
this case now let's pick our move tool
00:03:38
Again by hitting e on the keyboard and
00:03:41
click on the edges of the roof while
00:03:43
holding
00:03:49
shift pick the extrude tool again and
00:03:52
extend by 5 cm again great now for the
00:03:55
last part of the roof let's extend these
00:03:57
sides by selecting them holding shift
00:04:00
and then extrude them 5 cm again also
00:04:04
let's rename our Cube to building by
00:04:06
double clicking or clicking and hitting
00:04:08
enter up next we want to make a chimney
00:04:11
for our roof we can do this by creating
00:04:14
a new Cube and scaling it down a
00:04:19
lot until it fits something like
00:04:23
this now make the shape editable
00:04:26
again select our top polygon
00:04:31
and select the scale tool and while
00:04:33
holding command or control on the
00:04:35
keyboard drag the shape outward but make
00:04:38
sure you're not dragging on top of the
00:04:40
shape just outside of the
00:04:42
shape with this polygon still selected
00:04:45
go into your move tool again and drag
00:04:47
the upper Arrow while holding the
00:04:49
commander control key again now on the
00:04:52
keyboard we can press the I key for
00:04:54
inner Extrusion or just right click and
00:04:56
select inner Extrusion and drag the
00:04:59
shape inwards and now with the command
00:05:01
or control key selected again let's drag
00:05:04
the shape
00:05:07
inwards Also let's rename this to
00:05:13
chimney for the next step we want to
00:05:15
make some kind of edges at the sides of
00:05:18
the building to do this start by
00:05:20
clicking on the building and select the
00:05:22
edge mode now when we press K on our
00:05:25
keyboard a small tool tip pops up and
00:05:27
let's select the loop or PA cut by
00:05:30
hitting L now when you hover on an edge
00:05:33
you can see the shape kind of
00:05:34
transitions when you move to the upper
00:05:36
part of the screen this is because it
00:05:38
automatically calculates something in
00:05:40
between of the two edges to fix this we
00:05:44
can select the offset mode and set it to
00:05:46
Edge distance now you can see it just
00:05:48
behaves like we wanted to click
00:05:50
somewhere around about here and you can
00:05:53
see at the side the distance is
00:05:56
somewhere near 10 cm and we want it to
00:05:58
be 10 cm and let's do the same with this
00:06:01
one as
00:06:04
well so now back into our polygons mode
00:06:08
let's hit U and then L on the keyboard
00:06:11
to select the loop selection tool and
00:06:14
now we can select a whole ring around
00:06:16
the building with these polygons hold
00:06:19
shift to select the second ring and now
00:06:22
on the keyboard press D to select the
00:06:24
extrude tool again and drag outwards
00:06:26
about 5 cm again
00:06:30
now we're going to add some windows to
00:06:32
our building very necessary of course to
00:06:35
do this create a new Cube and scale it
00:06:37
down roughly position it at the side of
00:06:40
the building and scale it until it looks
00:06:42
something like a window and just
00:06:45
duplicate the shape while holding
00:06:47
control or command on the keyboard and
00:06:49
dragging
00:06:51
upwards now duplicate again and rotate
00:06:53
the shape so we can add two more windows
00:06:56
at this
00:06:58
side for the upper portion of the
00:07:00
building we are going to add different
00:07:02
windows but first we're going to make
00:07:05
the indents on the building where these
00:07:08
placeholder windows are right now so up
00:07:12
here click and hold and you can select
00:07:14
bull basically this is slin illustrator
00:07:17
where two shapes overlap each other and
00:07:19
they intersect so now select the
00:07:23
building and drag it inside of this bull
00:07:25
object you'll see it gets a child of the
00:07:28
bull parent
00:07:30
and now select all the cubes and drag
00:07:33
them in as well and you'll see nothing
00:07:36
really happened this is because a bull
00:07:39
only intersects between two objects but
00:07:41
there are five inside right now so now
00:07:44
we need to select all the cubes and
00:07:46
group them you can simply do this by
00:07:48
pressing alt and G not command and G alt
00:07:51
and
00:07:52
G now make sure the building is at the
00:07:55
top of the hierarchy and you'll see it
00:07:57
cuts out perfectly
00:08:00
up next let's open this group again with
00:08:02
the windows and select one Cube we're
00:08:06
going to duplicate it so copy and paste
00:08:08
it make sure it's outside of the Bool
00:08:11
and we're going to use this to make some
00:08:12
shapes around the windows so scale it
00:08:15
down squeeze it down and make it a
00:08:18
little bit wider so it kind of looks
00:08:20
like a window
00:08:22
sill duplicate it rotate
00:08:27
it duplicate it to the top again
00:08:36
so for the upper portion of the building
00:08:37
we want to create different windows we
00:08:40
want to make windows with a round top to
00:08:44
do this go into this menu and select the
00:08:47
rectangle and now we want to change
00:08:49
views so we can have an exact view of
00:08:51
the side of this rectangle to do this go
00:08:55
up here at this little icon or hit the
00:08:57
middle Mouse button and let's let's go
00:08:59
into the front
00:09:01
mode make sure the object is editable
00:09:05
select the point mode now when we right
00:09:07
click on top of the edge at the top we
00:09:10
can select create point so let's zoom in
00:09:14
a little bit and click right inside of
00:09:16
the middle of this
00:09:18
Edge now with the move tool we can drag
00:09:20
it
00:09:22
up and right click again and select soft
00:09:26
interpolation this rounds this point now
00:09:29
with these black knobs we can just drag
00:09:32
these outwards try to stay horizontal
00:09:35
when doing this and keep adjusting until
00:09:37
you're
00:09:40
satisfied now scale is down until it
00:09:43
fits some of our previous
00:09:45
windows let's go back into our
00:09:48
perspective
00:09:49
mode you can see the shape is not filled
00:09:52
it's just a couple of lines to make this
00:09:55
a real solid shape we need to extrude
00:09:58
these lines
00:10:00
you can do this by selecting extrude up
00:10:02
here and dragging the rectangle inside
00:10:04
of the extrude
00:10:06
object when we select the extrude object
00:10:10
we can go into the object properties and
00:10:13
we see the Extrusion is at the right
00:10:15
side right now so let's rotate the shape
00:10:18
and put it right at the top of the
00:10:19
building duplicate it for a second
00:10:22
window and let's just add them inside of
00:10:25
this group of the bull
00:10:31
great so this is the basic shape of our
00:10:33
building already now let's move on and
00:10:36
go to the bottom of the building make
00:10:39
sure the building is
00:10:40
selected go into polygon mode and select
00:10:43
all the bottom
00:10:45
polygons and let's extrude these a
00:10:48
little bit like 20 cm this can be done
00:10:51
easily by holding shift when you hold
00:10:54
shift everything goes in increments of
00:10:56
10
00:10:57
cm now press U and L on the keyboard
00:11:01
again to select the loop selection
00:11:03
tool and let's select this ring of
00:11:05
polygons with the exr tool we can extend
00:11:08
these again by 5
00:11:13
cm all right up next we want to add a
00:11:15
hole for our door it looks good when it
00:11:19
also has a round top so let's just pick
00:11:22
one of these previous
00:11:24
extrusions and duplicate it to the
00:11:27
bottom
00:11:31
and now you can scale it up so it looks
00:11:33
more like a door instead of a
00:11:37
window when you're not satisfied about
00:11:39
the shape you can select the rectangle
00:11:41
and go into point mode and adjust
00:11:43
according to your
00:11:46
needs also we want to add some kind of
00:11:49
attic windows so let's start off with a
00:11:52
round one at the side you can do this by
00:11:55
creating a cylinder rotate and scale it
00:11:57
until it fits something like this
00:12:00
and just drag inside of the windows
00:12:02
inside of the
00:12:04
Bool now for a window that sticks
00:12:07
outside of the roof let's select one of
00:12:09
these rounded
00:12:11
extrusions copy and paste it so it's
00:12:13
outside of the bull and drag it
00:12:17
up now let's make it less tall so it
00:12:20
kind of looks
00:12:22
realistic and change the Extrusion so it
00:12:25
totally sinks inside of the roof
00:12:31
to make further adjustments on this
00:12:33
window we need to make it editable again
00:12:35
by hitting this button or pressing C on
00:12:37
the
00:12:38
keyboard and now go inside of this group
00:12:41
and select the front cap when you're
00:12:44
into the polygon mode you can make an
00:12:46
inner Extrusion again and then drag in
00:12:49
the shape a little bit while holding
00:12:51
control or command so it gets a little
00:12:53
bit of indent now you see a little bit of
00:12:56
glitchy shading going on here this gy be
00:12:59
fixed by deleting the fun tag again so
00:13:02
keep this as a reminder if there is some
00:13:04
kind of weird shading going on you might
00:13:06
need to delete the fun
00:13:08
tag now select the main Extrusion again
00:13:11
let's pick our live selection tool again
00:13:14
and just drag over the top of the
00:13:17
window and extrude it again so we get a
00:13:20
little bit of a roof feeling also select
00:13:22
these sides and extrude these as well so
00:13:24
we have an
00:13:26
overhang now we want to select the front
00:13:28
of this roof
00:13:29
move also if you see you selected too
00:13:32
much of it you can simply hold command
00:13:35
or control on the keyboard and select
00:13:36
the polygon that isn't necessary to be
00:13:41
selected now extrude the shape so we
00:13:44
have an
00:13:48
overand as a next step it would be nice
00:13:50
to add some gutters on the
00:13:52
roof to do this let's create a tube
00:13:55
shape and scale and rotate it until it
00:13:58
would fit under the
00:14:03
roof now select the tube and go into the
00:14:06
slice Tab and just select slice you can
00:14:09
see the tube is now sliced in half it's
00:14:12
not starting and ending at the right
00:14:13
Point let's make it from 90 to
00:14:23
270° great now for the drain part we can
00:14:26
just pick a regular cylinder
00:14:31
and just make it really
00:14:33
thin now position it until it fits don't
00:14:36
really worry about the length we can
00:14:38
adjust this later and now let's make
00:14:41
this object editable
00:14:46
again now zoom in at the bottom portion
00:14:48
of the cylinder and let's select all the
00:14:51
bottom
00:14:54
polygons let's extrude these move this a
00:14:58
little bit forward and rotate these and
00:15:00
repeat so we get a little bit of a curve
00:15:02
at the end of the
00:15:04
drain now right here we can see the
00:15:07
objects are overlapping this is
00:15:09
obviously not something we want so let's
00:15:11
hit K and L again for the loop cut tool
00:15:15
and just make a cut right on top of the
00:15:17
overlapping part now go into our move
00:15:20
tool and select this ring with the U and
00:15:23
L key for the loop selection tool make
00:15:26
sure you are in the edge mode you might
00:15:29
need to zoom in a little bit to select
00:15:31
this and just drag this ring outwards
00:15:34
you can also reposition this a little
00:15:36
bit so it looks more wonky it gives the
00:15:37
building a little bit more of character
00:15:40
now repeat this step on the other
00:15:42
overlapping
00:15:45
parts now you can see the gutter ends
00:15:48
are still open so this wouldn't work in
00:15:51
real life so to fix this we can delete
00:15:54
the second gutter REM made so we can fix
00:15:57
this and then duplicate it again so with
00:15:59
this one duplicate it then scale it down
00:16:04
horizontally and move it right to the
00:16:07
side and now when we change the inner
00:16:10
radius to zero we can make it a full
00:16:12
shape
00:16:14
again duplicate it to the other side of
00:16:16
the gutter and then duplicate the whole
00:16:18
gutter to the other side of the
00:16:25
building it might also be a good time to
00:16:27
rename our objects that haven't been
00:16:29
renamed
00:16:31
already so this is starting to look like
00:16:34
something so when we look down here we
00:16:37
can see the door but no steps to reach
00:16:39
the door so let's make those
00:16:41
steps start off by selecting the
00:16:44
building and go into polygon mode select
00:16:47
this middle polygon at the front and
00:16:49
scale it up horizontally so it's wider
00:16:51
than the actual door we want to separate
00:16:54
this polygon into three equal polygons
00:16:58
this can be done by right clicking and
00:17:00
selecting the loop or path cut make sure
00:17:04
restrict to selection is selected and
00:17:07
now just click somewhere inside of this
00:17:09
polygon and then down here you can
00:17:11
change the number of cuts to two so that
00:17:15
adds up to three separate polygons
00:17:17
divided by two edges or Cuts so now when
00:17:20
you deselect everything you can see the
00:17:23
cuts only reached inside of this single
00:17:25
polygon because we checked that check
00:17:28
mark so let's select these three
00:17:31
polygons and extrude them while holding
00:17:33
shift so it's just 10 cm then select the
00:17:37
bottom two polygons and extrude these 10
00:17:40
cm and finally only the bottom
00:17:44
one so these are our
00:17:47
stairs now these look a little bit lost
00:17:50
so let's make some sides for these
00:17:53
staircases just create a new Cube and
00:17:56
rescale it until it looks something like
00:17:58
this make the cube editable and go
00:18:01
inside of the edge
00:18:02
mode then select this Edge now you can
00:18:06
see the edge axis are kind of in a weird
00:18:09
rotation you can fix this by resetting
00:18:12
the AIS rotation to do this go up here
00:18:15
and select enable axis and then down in
00:18:18
these fields you can see the rotation
00:18:20
values of this axis let's put zeros
00:18:23
instead and hit apply and now the A's
00:18:25
are perfectly
00:18:27
straight make sure you deselect the
00:18:29
enable AIS mode and now you can move the
00:18:32
AIS like we want them to you might need
00:18:34
to repeat this on the other side so you
00:18:36
can make nice sides for a
00:18:38
staircase when you're done duplicate the
00:18:41
shape at the other side and you're
00:18:42
completely
00:18:44
done next up let's add some kind of
00:18:47
balconies on the top Windows let's start
00:18:50
off with a disc roughly position it on
00:18:52
the center of the windows Edge and make
00:18:55
sure it kind of overlaps the sides down
00:18:58
here let's add some more rotation
00:19:00
segments something around 53 would be a
00:19:04
good option just make sure it's not an
00:19:07
even number also let's add some dis
00:19:09
segments so that other ring has some
00:19:11
kind of square shapes let's make this
00:19:14
dis editable and go into our polygon
00:19:16
mode and let's select every other
00:19:18
polygon starting from the
00:19:21
walls with these select just extrude
00:19:23
these upwards or no let's undo this and
00:19:27
before we are going to EXT extrud these
00:19:29
let's duplicate our object and then go
00:19:32
to the bottom one and extrude
00:19:37
them now let's take a look at the bottom
00:19:40
of the balcony and select our second
00:19:42
object we just
00:19:44
duplicated make sure all the polygons
00:19:47
are selected now we can extrude these to
00:19:50
make the bottom a little bit
00:19:52
thicker now let's duplicate this whole
00:19:54
shape on its own and drag it upwards and
00:19:57
we might need to rotate it to make look
00:19:59
like a fil
00:20:01
shape now get a little bit of a look at
00:20:04
the top we need to delete the whole
00:20:05
Center of this balcony part so select
00:20:09
all the unnecessary polygons and just
00:20:11
delete
00:20:14
them now let's group these and duplicate
00:20:17
them to the other
00:20:19
window so that is basically it for this
00:20:21
part of the building for the next part
00:20:24
which is the shop at the side I will be
00:20:26
going a little bit faster because it's
00:20:28
mostly the same techniques so bear at me
00:20:31
when I'm going a little bit
00:20:33
fast I start off with creating a new
00:20:36
Cube and roughly scaling it until it
00:20:38
fits the kind of dimensions of the
00:20:40
previous building also make sure there
00:20:42
are two segments at each side just to
00:20:45
make things a little bit easier and now
00:20:47
when the object is editable select the
00:20:50
upper edges and drag them upwards to
00:20:52
make a slanted roof make sure the fun
00:20:55
tag is
00:20:57
deleted in the Pol poons mode select the
00:20:59
upper portion of the roof extrude these
00:21:03
do the same on the sides here at the
00:21:05
front I want to make a window and the
00:21:09
door let's raise these edges a little
00:21:12
bit so we have more room to work with
00:21:13
these polygons select the right one and
00:21:16
duplicate it with the scale tool so it's
00:21:19
just as wide as the door would be
00:21:21
selecting the upper Edge we need to
00:21:23
reset the AIS again and now we can move
00:21:25
it down like we wanted to let's make it
00:21:27
a little bit wider here select the
00:21:30
polygon drag it inwards duplicate with
00:21:33
the scale tool again and also drag this
00:21:35
inwards so we have a little bit of an
00:21:37
indent like there are two doors for a
00:21:40
door knob select this polygon and Inter
00:21:42
extrude it let's scale it down a little
00:21:45
bit and just place it to this side of
00:21:48
the door and then extrude it outwards so
00:21:50
it's a little bit thicker at this side
00:21:53
of the front we want to have a nice big
00:21:55
window so make an inner Extrusion again
00:21:57
extrude it Inward and then for the
00:22:00
window s select this bottom polygon
00:22:02
extrude it just a little bit and then
00:22:04
select this newly created polygon and
00:22:06
drag it outwards so now we have a nice
00:22:09
little window
00:22:10
sill up next let's add some kind of sign
00:22:13
above the window also duplicate the
00:22:16
shape to make some second sign we can
00:22:19
put above the door and we want to add
00:22:22
some kind of text on top of this we can
00:22:24
simply do this by clicking here and
00:22:27
selecting text
00:22:29
inside of the object properties we can
00:22:32
manually add the words we want to show
00:22:34
in this case I'll go for flowers let's
00:22:37
scale it and position it until it fits
00:22:39
the sign we can see the sign is a little
00:22:41
bit wider than our text so let's go into
00:22:44
the horizontal spacing here and let's
00:22:47
stretch the text a little bit once again
00:22:49
we can see the text is just a bunch of
00:22:51
lines and not the real shape so we need
00:22:53
to extrude it again make sure you're
00:22:55
extruding at the right side now
00:22:57
duplicate this and position it on the
00:22:59
other sign and we might need to reduce
00:23:02
the lead spacing again it would also be
00:23:05
nice to have some kind of lamp at the
00:23:06
side of this building so to do this I
00:23:10
create a cone And the cylinder let's
00:23:13
drag this upwards so we can focus on
00:23:15
these I just rescale everything until it
00:23:18
kind of fits like a
00:23:21
lamp remove the Caps of the cone we
00:23:25
don't need
00:23:27
these and also will duplicate the
00:23:29
cylinder make it
00:23:31
editable and let's do this trick we did
00:23:34
on the drain by extruding rotating and
00:23:36
moving slices we just
00:23:42
created group these and name lamp and
00:23:46
now we can scale it down and position it
00:23:48
where we wanted
00:23:51
to Also let's make some room for some
00:23:53
plants by starting with a cube with an
00:23:56
inner Extrusion and make it sink inside
00:23:58
of the building so it feels like it's
00:24:00
connected to the walls then make a
00:24:03
second Cube again make it really small
00:24:05
this will be the base for our bushes
00:24:08
make the object editable again scale
00:24:10
down the top polygon a little bit and
00:24:12
then extrude it again drag it over a
00:24:15
little bit to the left in this case make
00:24:17
some more extrusions that will serve
00:24:19
like
00:24:20
branches and now on top of this let's
00:24:23
add a tall
00:24:25
Cube and then the object properties
00:24:27
let's select
00:24:29
fillet or filet if you want to act
00:24:31
French and add a bunch of segments to
00:24:34
the cube so we can easily manipulate the
00:24:36
shape of
00:24:37
this now here comes a fun part when we
00:24:40
make the object editable again and
00:24:42
select the polygons mode right click and
00:24:45
select the brush make sure it's not too
00:24:48
big you can resize this by holding the
00:24:50
middle Mouse button and
00:24:53
dragging and now you can drag and drop
00:24:55
to reshape the bushes
00:25:00
now duplicate these and rotate them a
00:25:02
little bit to make a little bit of
00:25:03
variation in the view Also let's add a
00:25:06
cube down here at the entrance to make
00:25:08
it look a little bit more inviting and
00:25:11
now we're really finishing things up so
00:25:14
let's add some more details by
00:25:17
duplicating some of these window sills
00:25:19
and dragging them up here like it's a
00:25:21
window
00:25:23
frame you might want to do this at this
00:25:26
round window as well
00:25:29
and finally up here at the Attic
00:25:35
Window so that's basically our
00:25:41
building as you can notice there is no
00:25:44
floor for our building so let's make
00:25:46
something for this we are going to use a
00:25:49
cylinder for this make it really large
00:25:53
and down here at the object properties
00:25:56
select the Caps Tab and select fill it
00:25:59
adjust the radius until you're satisfied
00:26:01
something about 8 cm looks fine then go
00:26:04
into the top view so you can perfectly
00:26:07
Center it with the
00:26:09
building then make sure it kind of
00:26:12
connects with the actual building so
00:26:14
it's not
00:26:18
floating and this is our final
00:26:23
model now if we click on the render
00:26:26
button it doesn't look very pleasing at
00:26:29
all but don't worry this can easily be
00:26:32
fixed up here we can hit edit render
00:26:36
settings and click on the effect button
00:26:39
we get a whole list of effects but we
00:26:41
just want the first one ambient
00:26:44
occlusion this is something you'll use
00:26:47
in mostly every project that needs to
00:26:49
look a little bit realistic you don't
00:26:52
need to fiddle around with these
00:26:53
settings just go outside of this window
00:26:56
and hit render again and you can see
00:26:58
nice
00:27:00
shading to enhance this look let's add a
00:27:02
light
00:27:03
source the best one for beginners is the
00:27:07
physical Sky inside of Cinema 4D when
00:27:10
you render you can see something is
00:27:12
happening it's like the sun is shining
00:27:15
but not something that looks pleasing
00:27:17
right now out of the box to fix this go
00:27:19
inside of time and location and now you
00:27:21
can start playing around personally I am
00:27:25
a big fan of using the month May for
00:27:28
this project let's set the time to
00:27:30
something about 90 hours 45 minutes
00:27:35
something about that let's render this
00:27:38
and you'll see everything is orange we
00:27:40
don't want this but this is happening
00:27:42
because the only light source right now
00:27:44
is the sun and the Sun at this time of
00:27:46
the day only sheds some kind of orange
00:27:49
light obviously but it's not bouncing
00:27:52
off clouds it's not bouncing off
00:27:54
anything a trick I usually like to apply
00:27:57
to a project using physical sky is
00:28:00
adding a second manual light which we
00:28:03
can manipulate more easily and you can
00:28:06
do this by clicking on this light bulb
00:28:09
and selecting area
00:28:12
light now when we rotate the camera we
00:28:14
can see the light source of the physical
00:28:16
sky where the sun is and let's drag the
00:28:19
area light somewhat in front of this so
00:28:22
the light comes from the same direction
00:28:25
and let's make the color some kind of
00:28:28
orange as well now down here make sure
00:28:30
the shadow is set to area this is
00:28:34
somewhat the most realistic Shadow
00:28:37
option but also one of the slower ones
00:28:40
and now when we hit render we can see it
00:28:43
adds a little bit more of a dimension to
00:28:45
the whole building the details pop out a
00:28:48
little bit more now we want to get rid
00:28:50
of this orange look to it we can fix
00:28:54
this by adding a wide light so click on
00:28:56
this light bulb to create a regular
00:28:58
light make sure it's an omni light keep
00:29:01
the shadow to none and then down here is
00:29:04
the magic button ambient illumination
00:29:08
when you click this it will light the
00:29:10
whole scene on its own regardless of the
00:29:13
position of your light bulb you can
00:29:15
instantly see everything turns more
00:29:17
white but now it would be too bright so
00:29:20
let's turn down the intensity to
00:29:22
something like 80 or
00:29:25
83 and hit render and now you can see
00:29:29
the original colors of the object are
00:29:31
coming back to life now let's not forget
00:29:34
the lamp at the side of the building we
00:29:35
also need some kind of light source for
00:29:37
this one and we can do this with a
00:29:40
spotlight when you create this you can
00:29:42
already see what direction the spot
00:29:44
would cast light so let's rotate it and
00:29:47
put it in
00:29:49
place and drag the bottom Circle a
00:29:52
little bit upwards because it doesn't
00:29:54
need to extend all the way down there
00:29:56
you can also resize the radius of the
00:29:58
fall
00:29:59
off now in the light properties let's
00:30:02
make it a little bit of a warmer tone
00:30:04
because most light isn't really white
00:30:08
make sure the shadow is set to area and
00:30:11
then the second option is to set the
00:30:13
visibility to
00:30:15
volumetric this will make sure you can
00:30:17
see some kind of haze around the
00:30:21
light so when we render this you can see
00:30:24
the light falling off
00:30:28
so this is basically our lighting feel
00:30:30
free to adjust this to anything you like
00:30:33
it's really up to you what you
00:30:36
like next up let's make sure we have
00:30:38
some kind of nice composition a nice
00:30:40
angle we're viewing the building we can
00:30:42
do this by creating a camera up here
00:30:45
make sure you're selecting this little
00:30:47
black Square so it turns white and now
00:30:50
in the object properties change the
00:30:53
focal length to 200 this is some kind of
00:30:57
trick or you zoom in so much that the
00:31:00
perspective is kind of crunched together
00:31:03
it's basically the opposite of a fish
00:31:05
Island where everything looks really
00:31:07
tall and big and this makes it look like
00:31:09
a miniature
00:31:11
building so when you're satisfied with
00:31:13
the position we might want to lock the
00:31:15
camera position so we don't accidentally
00:31:18
move it around when we're working on the
00:31:20
project itself to do this right click on
00:31:23
the camera and go into the Cinema 4D
00:31:25
tags and select the protection tag now
00:31:29
you can't move the camera again until
00:31:32
you delete this tag so now as a
00:31:34
Finishing Touch we can add some colors
00:31:36
and textures to our model to make it
00:31:39
look like a finalized
00:31:42
project to create a color or material to
00:31:45
put on top of an object you can simply
00:31:48
double click down here in this field
00:31:52
double click to open it and most of the
00:31:54
times for this kind of low poly style we
00:31:56
can deselect the reflect
00:31:58
because it makes everything look really
00:32:00
plasticky and cheap we just want to have
00:32:03
some nice pure
00:32:05
colors so when we click on color we can
00:32:09
adjust the color and for the walls we
00:32:11
are going to make some kind of
00:32:14
off-white kind of be tint you can drag
00:32:19
and drop this on top of the building
00:32:21
object and also on top of the second
00:32:25
building now for the windows Sills and
00:32:28
all these edges on and all these edges
00:32:31
around the building we want to have
00:32:32
something a little bit brighter so let's
00:32:36
create a new color and make it some
00:32:38
lighter be or almost gray look and
00:32:42
select our building and pick the polygon
00:32:45
mode and with the loop selection tool we
00:32:47
can select all the polygons we want to
00:32:49
give this color
00:32:58
once we selected what we want you can
00:33:00
simply drag and drop the colors on top
00:33:02
of
00:33:05
it let's also add this color on the
00:33:09
chimney and all the window seal details
00:33:13
it's easier to put it on top of the
00:33:14
group you now you might have noticed we
00:33:17
have some kind of weird gradient in the
00:33:19
back this is the physical Sky we are
00:33:22
seeing we want to hide this so select
00:33:25
the physical sky and right click and go
00:33:27
into Cinema 4D tags and select the
00:33:31
compositing tag and down here we can
00:33:34
uncheck seen by camera and now it's
00:33:37
completely gone we will replace this by
00:33:41
a background we manually selected and
00:33:43
create it for the roof we want to have
00:33:46
some kind of really dark brownish
00:33:50
color select all the polygons we need to
00:33:53
color and apply the
00:33:56
material do the same thing with the
00:33:58
second
00:34:00
building now down here at the side we
00:34:03
want to add the accents color to the
00:34:07
cube and then create a new material for
00:34:10
the dirt that is inside of the cube this
00:34:13
will be some kind of really dark brown
00:34:15
color something that looks like dirt to
00:34:18
give a little bit more character to this
00:34:20
material we can add a texture to this
00:34:23
which is noise and set the mix mode to
00:34:26
multiply and we might want to make the
00:34:28
noise really thin so it doesn't look
00:34:31
like big chunks so click on this image
00:34:34
and set the global scale to something
00:34:36
like 3% it's really
00:34:39
small now select the polygon which will
00:34:42
be the dirt and drag the material on top
00:34:44
of it next up is another kind of brown
00:34:47
for the
00:34:50
branches and some kind of green you like
00:34:53
for the bushes itself for the lamp
00:34:56
material we are not not going to
00:34:58
deselect the
00:34:59
reflectant just add some kind of rusty
00:35:03
gold look to it maybe bronze up here at
00:35:06
the front let's make these letters red
00:35:08
to make them stand out a little
00:35:13
bit for all the metal parts we are also
00:35:16
keeping the reflectance channel checked
00:35:19
and make the color some kind of gray of
00:35:21
course apply them to the gutter the
00:35:24
drain the balcony everything that's
00:35:26
metal also make sure the Attic Roof is
00:35:29
also
00:35:32
red in this case I forgot to make the
00:35:35
rest of the shape this kind of off beig
00:35:39
so let's drag this material on top of it
00:35:41
but you can see it overrides all the
00:35:43
other materials if you look at the side
00:35:46
you can see this material is set at the
00:35:49
last position in the row just drag and
00:35:52
drop it in front of all the other
00:35:54
materials so the hierarchy is restored
00:35:57
again
00:35:59
again so when we render we can see it's
00:36:02
starting to look like
00:36:04
something but the background is pure
00:36:06
black and it doesn't really fit in the
00:36:08
whole scene so let's create a new
00:36:11
background you can do this right
00:36:14
here and create a new material for
00:36:18
this let's add a texture to it which
00:36:21
will be a
00:36:25
gradient click on the image of the
00:36:27
gradient
00:36:28
and set the type to 2D circular let's
00:36:31
make it from y to something slightly
00:36:36
gray and set the mode to
00:36:40
multiply Now set the main color to
00:36:43
something bash
00:36:45
yellow and apply it to the background
00:36:48
and it doesn't really look that nice so
00:36:50
let's so let's play around with the mix
00:36:53
mode let's just keep it at normal and
00:36:56
set the mixed strength to something
00:36:58
about
00:37:02
40 that looks kind of
00:37:06
nicer maybe add a little bit more of
00:37:09
contrast to the
00:37:11
gradient now for the windows we need to
00:37:14
add a special material that looks kind
00:37:16
of transparent kind of reflective but
00:37:18
doesn't really make it see through
00:37:20
because we have no objects inside of our
00:37:22
building so start off with creating a
00:37:25
new material set setting the color to
00:37:28
some kind of medium dark gray and go
00:37:30
into a reflectance channel up here click
00:37:34
on the add button and add a backman
00:37:38
reflection now check
00:37:41
transparency and here at reflection put
00:37:45
2.2 this makes it look kind of like
00:37:48
glass and also reduce the brightness so
00:37:51
it's less seethrough apply this material
00:37:54
on the extrusions and all the window
00:37:56
parts
00:37:57
[Music]
00:37:59
except for the attic ones because we
00:38:01
want to make them look a little bit more
00:38:02
dark for those let's duplicate this
00:38:05
glassy material and make the color a
00:38:08
little bit more bright and
00:38:10
bluish and reduce the brightness of the
00:38:14
transparency so it's less seethrough
00:38:16
then apply the material to these upper
00:38:19
Windows also apply that same material to
00:38:22
the bottom window of the shop and the
00:38:24
doors
00:38:28
for the door handle we can reuse the
00:38:31
same material we used for the drain and
00:38:33
all the metal objects so that's
00:38:36
basically it now it's just up to you to
00:38:39
fine-tune everything you want the
00:38:41
lighting the camera position and the
00:38:43
colors until it looks good to your taste
00:38:46
I have one final bonus trick for you if
00:38:49
you select all the objects that create
00:38:51
this building and group them
00:38:53
together you can go up here and select
00:38:57
any of these but let's take taper and
00:39:00
drag them inside of the group and now
00:39:03
when we resize this purple frame so it
00:39:05
fits around our building and adjust the
00:39:08
strength you can see it gets kind of
00:39:09
inflated or deflated like you can see in
00:39:13
cartoons so this might be a nice little
00:39:15
detail to make a little bit more
00:39:17
cartoony or playful if you like that so
00:39:20
that is it for this kind of lengthy
00:39:22
tutorial I hope you enjoyed it I hope
00:39:24
you learned a lot and with all the
00:39:26
techniques we learn to today you can
00:39:28
make all kinds of buildings create
00:39:30
cities all kinds of creative things with
00:39:32
this kind of simple and low poly style
00:39:35
if you have any kind of comments or
00:39:37
questions about this video just put them
00:39:38
down below leave a like if you like this
