00:00:03
i don't know
00:00:06
[Music]
00:00:16
so here i am at the ramp
00:00:19
showroom uh loads of people in there
00:00:22
loads of youtubers it's great to sort of
00:00:24
finally meet them you feel like you've
00:00:25
known them
00:00:27
so a lot of cameras sticking about
00:00:29
everywhere
00:00:30
and but it seems like a really good
00:00:32
group we've had a bit of breakfast been
00:00:34
put out for us with food
00:00:36
and then we're going to start the
00:00:37
presentation of that spoon so yeah
00:00:39
looking forward to it one of the big
00:00:41
changes to summer spring 22 was our new
00:00:43
re-launch line of sleeping bags so the
00:00:46
first call of the day was to be
00:00:48
sort of shown the technologies that go
00:00:51
into the down sleeping bags the
00:00:53
different ranges and they talked about
00:00:55
like the fill power of the down it
00:00:57
starts from sympathetic and then it goes
00:00:59
across to like the more insulative and
00:01:02
then they tell us about all the
00:01:03
different polymers and
00:01:04
things that they use
00:01:06
to create the various ranges i mean a
00:01:09
lot of this stuff is designed
00:01:11
specifically for alpinists and it's good
00:01:14
reliable stuff but their products are
00:01:16
not just designed to be insulative and
00:01:20
long lasting they also
00:01:23
use products that are less likely to
00:01:26
release plastics and other toxins into
00:01:30
the environment so they aim to become a
00:01:33
climate neutral company by 2030
00:01:43
so now we're going over to the down
00:01:44
filling station but we had a chat with a
00:01:46
girl lauren and was like how did you
00:01:48
come up with the people you're taking
00:01:50
here because there's a mix of
00:01:52
sort of people like paul messing in your
00:01:54
abbey barnes with a lot of subscribers
00:01:58
and then it was sort of mid-range i like
00:01:59
to think
00:02:00
and then a few smaller youtubers and
00:02:03
they said that they literally had a list
00:02:05
of hundreds of youtubers and they
00:02:07
whittled them down and so it's nice to
00:02:09
think that we've all been sort of
00:02:11
hand-picked for this
00:02:18
[Music]
00:02:28
so rabb was created by the mountaineer
00:02:31
rav carrington founded in 1981 with the
00:02:35
goal of hand making climbing kit to
00:02:37
perform in extreme conditions
00:02:40
in the beginning they used to create 20
00:02:42
bags a day hand stuffing each
00:02:44
pre-weighed bundle of down feathers into
00:02:48
each individual baffle today there's a
00:02:50
computerized air pumping process which
00:02:52
allows them to produce up to 200 items
00:02:55
per day although the technology has
00:02:57
changed they still try to live up to
00:03:00
rabs original standards creating gear
00:03:03
that the mountaineering community still
00:03:05
rely upon today although rab is a
00:03:08
locally founded company it's an
00:03:10
international enterprise the down
00:03:13
filling takes place in the uk but the
00:03:16
material for the bags is put together
00:03:18
abroad and then sent over here where
00:03:21
they fill them it's also worth noting
00:03:22
that the down although not ethically
00:03:25
sourced they say that term ethically
00:03:28
sourced is a bit of a gray sentence that
00:03:29
they don't like to use the term that
00:03:31
they prefer to use is responsibly
00:03:35
sourced down because obviously the down
00:03:37
is still part of a farming process
00:03:40
however they are taking on different
00:03:42
ways of combating how the down is
00:03:46
sourced and one of the ways they're
00:03:47
doing this now is by recycling down and
00:03:50
they have a recycle center in the
00:03:53
factory so they encourage you to come
00:03:55
and bring your old down products
00:03:56
regardless of the brand and they will
00:03:59
sort it for reuse
00:04:02
[Music]
00:04:06
and now we've been given our own
00:04:09
sleeping bags so
00:04:11
yes how exciting
00:04:13
as we continued to look around the
00:04:15
factory we were shown the various
00:04:17
services that rab offer to help prolong
00:04:20
the life of their rab and low alpine
00:04:23
products
00:04:24
including warranty repairs
00:04:27
washing
00:04:28
and now they even offer a rab rental for
00:04:31
those who either cannot afford the
00:04:33
products or would like to give a product
00:04:35
test run or will only require them for a
00:04:38
short amount of time
00:04:40
then we got to look around the factory
00:04:42
shop
00:04:43
where there was numerous items at
00:04:46
incredible discounted prices
00:04:50
[Music]
00:04:54
after the tour of the factory we
00:04:56
returned to
00:04:57
hq for a spot of lunch and to have a
00:05:00
look through our bags of goodies
00:05:03
so we've just all been
00:05:06
given a goodie bag some bits in
00:05:15
[Music]
00:05:20
box
00:05:27
after spending a little bit of time
00:05:28
getting to know the other youtubers and
00:05:30
the rab team we then headed out to the
00:05:32
edge of the peak district
00:05:34
meeting at the robin hood pub before
00:05:36
heading up to the campsite to set up
00:05:39
camp for the night to test out our
00:05:40
sleeping bags
00:05:42
[Music]
00:05:53
so off to the campsite now i bought a
00:05:56
cloud peak today haven't used that one
00:05:58
for a little while before i'd have a go
00:06:01
probably be surrounded by hillebergs and
00:06:03
scarps and
00:06:05
what i have yeah i do notice that i'm
00:06:07
the only one like everyone else has got
00:06:09
like gopros
00:06:11
dslrs
00:06:14
and uh
00:06:15
i've got a little sony handycam
00:06:18
with a bit of uh foam
00:06:20
stuck to the front of it
00:06:22
budget treb
00:06:23
[Applause]
00:06:25
i do wonder why rob picked me
00:06:28
[Music]
00:07:00
what
00:07:11
it's like a youtubers convention
00:07:14
influencers are us
00:07:17
so we've all got the new rab sleeping
00:07:19
bag to try out
00:07:21
a nice warm jacket i'm not sure if it's
00:07:23
a down jacket i haven't had a quick
00:07:24
proper look at it yet
00:07:27
but we're going to go and do a bit of a
00:07:28
hike in a minute
00:07:31
which is what i'm looking forward to
00:07:32
i've been most excited
00:07:34
[Music]
00:07:36
it's nice obviously having new gear free
00:07:38
gear
00:07:39
and
00:07:40
rab to say the least
00:07:48
here we are
00:07:55
only two hands
00:07:57
[Music]
00:08:06
so i'll get me all wrapped up look
00:08:11
a new down jacket
00:08:16
i don't know if it's a color i'd have
00:08:17
chosen but
00:08:19
so writing it
00:08:20
i don't mind blue to be honest
00:08:25
warm toasty and then look miss sleeping
00:08:27
bag
00:08:34
three gifts the perks of being
00:08:37
a youtuber
00:08:40
now that's uh
00:08:42
yes and all the food we've had all day
00:08:43
great
00:08:49
so yeah it's the
00:08:51
the newest model of the
00:08:53
rab collection
00:08:54
the alpine 600
00:08:57
650 fill power
00:08:59
european hydrophobic duck down minus 9
00:09:03
to 15 degrees
00:09:08
it's got all your details in there
00:09:10
limit of comfort extreme minus 32
00:09:13
celsius
00:09:14
minus 26 fahrenheit comfort -5 is 23
00:09:18
fahrenheit
00:09:20
weighs a thousand and fifty grams one
00:09:23
hundred percent polymored recycled
00:09:25
fibers
00:09:27
so yeah it's good having a look around
00:09:28
the rab factory today i wish i'd have
00:09:31
known that we was gonna get a discount
00:09:33
at the factory shop because uh there
00:09:35
were some really good prices on things
00:09:37
there but i sort of spent all my money
00:09:40
on the way up here yesterday stopping at
00:09:42
different places
00:09:43
making sure i had a rab jacket to come
00:09:45
because that was one of the things i
00:09:47
said make sure you wear your wrap gear i
00:09:49
didn't have any so i bought a
00:09:51
wrap jacket yesterday probably would
00:09:53
have been able to buy the same one today
00:09:55
for half the price
00:09:57
but there you go
00:09:59
tripped it right up
00:10:00
oop
00:10:02
what have you got there
00:10:16
no guarantee for that
00:10:21
[Music]
00:10:26
[Music]
00:10:36
[Music]
00:10:47
oh shifting now
00:10:49
first hill
00:10:50
[Music]
00:10:52
we're going to get up to this ridgeline
00:10:54
did you hear what ridge they said it was
00:10:57
called
00:10:59
[Music]
00:11:04
it's a great standard
00:11:06
i'm sure someone will tell us
00:11:08
something
00:11:09
at some
00:11:10
[Music]
00:11:12
point so the walk took place up to
00:11:15
burton edge it was only a short walk but
00:11:17
we was joined by
00:11:19
professional
00:11:20
mountain climber andy cave and he would
00:11:24
later on join us in the robin hood pub
00:11:27
where he conducted an informative chat
00:11:30
about mountaineering
00:11:34
[Music]
00:11:43
[Music]
00:11:51
[Music]
00:11:55
this is what it's all about in here
00:11:58
look at these views
00:11:59
this is the campsite
00:12:02
i find it difficult today to do
00:12:04
my video in and
00:12:06
i keep hearing everyone else saying
00:12:08
things and i think
00:12:09
well i don't want to say that because
00:12:11
they've said that in their videos
00:12:13
how can i be different
00:12:15
i just won't say or film anything
00:12:26
[Music]
00:12:32
[Music]
00:12:43
[Music]
00:13:00
it look real
00:13:03
almost
00:13:04
carved
00:13:06
victory
00:13:07
[Music]
00:13:10
defiance
00:13:11
[Music]
00:13:13
and royal sovereignty
00:13:30
this one's pretty good
00:13:46
him
00:13:52
at the end of the day we started our
00:13:54
descent
00:13:56
back down the rock face having a bit of
00:13:58
a scramble on the way led by andy cave
00:14:01
and then we went back to the pub for pub
00:14:03
lunch
00:14:04
before heading back to the tents to test
00:14:06
out the sleeping bag
00:14:09
all right hello there welcome
00:14:18
well goodnight robin
00:14:20
nice to have met you
00:14:22
see you at half four in the morning five
00:14:26
seat five
00:14:30
i might just stay up do i think gonna
00:14:31
stop it up do something i can i don't
00:14:34
know if anybody's interested
00:14:38
it's rather hike now than half four in
00:14:40
the morning i think
00:14:43
hello i'm in the tent
00:14:46
that was really not good evening
00:14:49
sat with some
00:14:51
good chaps having a good chat
00:14:54
just about life in general um
00:14:56
and youtube a lot of chat about youtube
00:14:59
with the likes paul messner
00:15:02
and walks with wallace
00:15:04
and uh
00:15:05
it used to be renegade scott i think
00:15:07
he's rvs outdoors now what did he say
00:15:10
and uh another chapandi
00:15:13
yeah good four good lads had a really
00:15:15
nice evening
00:15:17
lovely food and uh
00:15:19
beer on tap just
00:15:21
every time we finish a beer have another
00:15:24
one then sorry all paid for
00:15:27
just come right in the head but now i'm
00:15:28
in me
00:15:29
let me tent and try my new sleeping bag
00:15:31
i might try out my new toilet roll
00:15:34
but no those guys from lab they went to
00:15:36
a lot of effort for us today and yeah
00:15:38
really enjoyed the day
00:15:40
and tomorrow morning we're getting up at
00:15:42
half past four
00:15:43
in the morning
00:15:45
and going for a hike
00:15:47
up to the top of the hill to watch the
00:15:48
sunrise i don't think we're gonna see
00:15:49
the sunrise i think it's gonna be misty
00:15:51
i don't think i'm gonna manage getting
00:15:53
up
00:15:54
not four in the morning at this rate
00:15:57
pretty tired
00:15:59
305.
00:16:04
i've got an hour before i need to get up
00:16:19
it's not
00:16:28
i wouldn't have been wearing t-shirts
00:16:29
and shorts the last time i was like oh
00:16:33
just yeah just lying awake really that's
00:16:36
all slipped well till about
00:16:38
one
00:16:41
now i'm just fidgeting
00:16:44
i'm trying to sleep
00:16:57
i actually fell asleep
00:16:59
as soon as it went off
00:17:01
decided then i was that that's when i'm
00:17:03
gonna sleep
00:17:05
get my trouser legs back on
00:17:07
with a thick head
00:17:12
sort of
00:17:13
excursion is coming to an end
00:17:17
trek up
00:17:18
and some breakfast
00:17:22
good morning how's it going out there
00:17:24
you're right
00:17:27
are you out
00:17:29
there what's it like out there yeah i
00:17:32
can just about make out the moon
00:17:37
the crags were on yesterday
00:17:39
ah sorry you can see something that
00:17:45
all right see
00:17:57
[Music]
00:18:08
do
00:18:22
[Music]
00:18:26
so this is pretty much the end of the
00:18:27
day well it's nice the beginning of the
00:18:29
day the end of the event
00:18:31
i'm sorry set up on
00:18:33
what's this ridge called again
00:18:35
is it bertrand ridge
00:18:39
virgin edge
00:18:40
virtually i knew it was birch and
00:18:42
something
00:18:43
so we're here on burton edge
00:18:45
just having a spot of breakfast we're
00:18:47
gonna watch the sun come up but it's a
00:18:48
bit
00:18:49
overcast i think the sun's over that way
00:18:51
somewhere but it's been a really great
00:18:53
event it's great to meet a lot of
00:18:55
different people the guys who've
00:18:56
organised it have done a stellar job
00:18:58
really absolutely brilliant and it's
00:19:00
made me realize just how accessible the
00:19:02
peak district is from the south west
00:19:05
so i will be coming back
00:19:07
and doing some peak districts soon for
00:19:10
sure getting some miles in i could have done
00:19:12
that today really i
00:19:13
didn't think about it yeah just have
00:19:15
some breakfast taking some views
00:19:18
chilling cool
00:19:22
[Music]
00:19:32
you

Description:

I've made it! Surely there must be some mistake?! Budget Backpacker Trev gets the RAB FACTORY TOUR, and his first visit to the Peak Disctrict for some hiking and camping. @Rab Equipment Its spot the YouTubers in this weeks episode, as Trev gets invited to have a look at the RAB factory, in the company of a handful of YouTube legends (links below). I was amazed that I even got an invite, to be fair, as I have tended to be very much the opposite end of the scale, however, if you are familiar with my channel you will be aware that I have in the past year been slowly acquiring more pricier and reliable gear in recent months, so it will be great to get these RAB items out on the trail and share with you my thoughts further down the line. I would like to thank the ladies and gentlemen at Rab and Brand Nation for inviting me, and also spoiling us with the extravagant gifts including a Brand New ALPINE 600 SLEEPING BAG and an Infinity Microlite Down Jacket and also massive thanks to mountaineer Andy Cave, who joined us for a bimble and Q&A at the end of the day.
