hate the games have to admit that it was00:00:27
probably the most impactful indie horror00:00:29
series of all time and the craziest part00:00:32
about it is to this day00:00:35
no one really knows what happened like00:00:37
if you play through the games it's very00:00:39
clear that there is a story happening in00:00:41
the background however the gameplay00:00:43
always takes center stage and despite00:00:45
the countless reddit threads and youtube00:00:47
videos made on the topic there still00:00:49
doesn't seem to be a clear answer of00:00:52
what happened in the games themselves so00:00:54
i'm here to throw my hat in the ring and00:00:56
present to you what i believe to be the00:00:59
story of the five nights at freddy's00:01:00
series see this video started out i just00:01:03
wanted to cover the fnaf vhs tapes00:01:06
because a couple people specifically00:01:08
squimpus mcgrimpus which is a funny name00:01:10
has made fantastic horror set within the00:01:14
universe of five nights at freddy's but00:01:16
taking its own story direction with its00:01:19
own characters and events however after00:01:21
getting all of my research done for that00:01:24
and then thinking how i would describe00:01:26
it to you all it wouldn't make a lot of00:01:28
sense to someone who wasn't familiar00:01:31
with the five night series so i asked00:01:33
myself what is the minimal amount of00:01:36
information i need to tell you about the00:01:38
five night series in order for you to00:01:40
understand the vhs tapes and that00:01:42
eventually devolved into me breaking00:01:44
down the entire story with all of the00:01:46
characters and major events00:01:48
so i'm doing great however i'm only00:01:51
partially joking on that because i do00:01:53
believe that the five nights at freddy's00:01:54
storyline is a very interesting story00:01:57
that deserves to be told however if00:01:59
you're familiar with the series at all00:02:01
then you probably know that the problem00:02:03
with telling the story is the story00:02:05
itself see the story of the game takes00:02:08
place across the first seven entries the00:02:10
game's in chronological order or at00:02:13
least my chronological order because we00:02:15
can't even agree on when the games00:02:18
happened but in my chronological order00:02:20
it goes four two00:02:23
one five00:02:25
three six seven00:02:28
yeah and the reason that it's so00:02:30
confusing for newcomers to the series to00:02:32
try to figure out what's going on is00:02:34
because anytime you search something00:02:36
like five nights at freddy's theory00:02:38
you're greeted with videos from five00:02:40
years ago whenever the third game was00:02:42
out so we didn't know the events in the00:02:43
fourth game were going to happen but00:02:45
then the theories from the fourth game00:02:46
didn't know that the events of the fifth00:02:47
game were going to happen so people kept00:02:49
trying to glue together a puzzle because00:02:51
all the pieces weren't out yet but now i00:02:54
in the future with the privilege of00:02:55
hindsight can put together the puzzle00:02:58
the way that i believe it was always00:02:59
meant to be viewed and i'm gonna do that00:03:01
in a kind of controversial way i want00:03:04
this video to serve again not only as my00:03:06
take on the timeline for those out there00:03:08
who are a fan of the series but also as00:03:11
an introductory point so that new people00:03:13
coming in are able to view all the00:03:15
information and better understand the00:03:17
story and when you look at the entire00:03:19
series as one narrative i think it00:03:21
becomes far more interesting and far00:03:23
more terrifying so in order to achieve00:03:26
both of those ends and again putting00:03:28
emphasis on the fact that this is a cool00:03:31
story that deserves to be told i am00:03:33
simply not going to explain myself at00:03:36
least not entirely explain myself like00:03:39

interpretation of what happened so00:03:46

the story of two people and those two00:07:00
people are william afton and henry emily00:07:03
henry and william were business partners00:07:05
and they went in as partners together on00:07:08
a new branch of children's entertainment00:07:10
this new style of children's00:07:12
entertainment would be demonstrated on00:07:14
their first business venture together a00:07:16
restaurant known as fredbear's family00:07:18
diner with later entries of the series00:07:20
as many people have pointed out you00:07:22
could think of the restaurants as a sort00:07:25
of chuck e cheese establishment the kind00:07:27
of places that would have singing00:07:28
animatronics as well as arcade games and00:07:31
pizza parties for children of all ages00:07:34
however at least in the beginning00:07:36
fredbears wasn't like that it was a much00:07:38
smaller establishment that boasted two00:07:40
animatronics the down-to-earth homey00:07:42
nature of it is even present in the name00:07:45
of fredbear's family diner it certainly00:07:48
seems like a passion project not only in00:07:50
the name and very nature of a children's00:07:53
entertainment business but also in the00:07:55
attitudes of the two owners from00:07:57
everything we see later in the series it00:07:59
seems like henry was the business and00:08:02
managerial side of the partnership while00:08:04
william was more interested in the00:08:06
day-to-day operations and specifically00:08:09
the construction of the animatronics00:08:11
what made these animatronics unique and00:08:13
the thing that set their business apart00:08:15
from other competitors was the addition00:08:18
of something william dubbed as spring00:08:20
lock suits the core idea behind a spring00:08:23
lock suit is that it is initially a00:08:25
normal animatronic however if someone00:08:28
were to twist the gear on the back of00:08:31
the costume the animatronic parts would00:08:33
slip to the sides and allow a worker to00:08:36
step inside of the animatronic itself00:08:39
and use it as a costume whereas at other00:08:41
establishments the children would see an00:08:43
animatronic on stage and then a worker00:08:45
would come out to serve them pizza in a00:08:48
kind of dollar store mascot version of00:08:50
the costume at fredbear's family diner00:08:53
they could watch the animatronics get00:08:55
off stage themselves and come play with00:08:57
the kids it seems like in the beginning00:08:59
that was part of the goal for william to00:09:02
keep the magic alive in the mind of a00:09:03
child and in the beginning it seems that00:09:05
they had such humble beginnings that00:09:08
william and henry were the people00:09:10
running the costumes themselves despite00:09:12
being owners they would take the time to00:09:14
step into their own respective spring00:09:16
lock suits and go play and entertain the00:09:19
children henry would pilot the00:09:21
restaurant's namesake the fredbear suit00:09:23
itself whereas william would slip into00:09:25
the secondary mascot of the business a00:09:28
golden rabbit costume which would later00:09:30
be known to the community as spring00:09:32
bonnie perhaps part of this dedication00:09:34
to the project came in the form of their00:09:36
own children william having three00:09:39
children himself elizabeth michael and00:09:41

around 1970 and then thanks in no small00:10:32
part to the dedication of the owners00:10:34
themselves as well as the invention of00:10:36
spring glock suits a decade later they00:10:39
are able to expand their brand as around00:10:41

william and henry continue to expand the00:10:48
business itself with fazbear00:10:50
entertainment which becomes a sort of00:10:52
industrial chain of freddy fazbear00:10:55

inventions that we see in the games is a00:11:09
small fredbear plush that seems to have00:11:12
a camera inside of it as well as a00:11:14
series of animatronics later dubbed00:11:16
funtime animatronics that it seems00:11:18
william was building during this time00:11:20
everything was going great and it seemed00:11:22
that nothing would stop the pair from00:11:24
accomplishing great things in the realm00:11:26
of children's entertainment that was00:11:28
until the accident that happened in00:11:30
1983. for whatever reason it seems that00:11:34
evan was particularly terrified of the00:11:37
animatronics his father was building and00:11:39
no one's really certain why people who00:11:41
have gathered information from the books00:11:43
have speculated that perhaps william was00:11:45
purposefully making his child afraid of00:11:48
the animatronics because william knew00:11:50
that they were dangerous because you00:11:52
know animatronic suits that have like00:11:54
wires and gears holding the animatronic00:11:57
pieces from flying back into place and00:11:59
impaling you it's called foreshadowing00:12:02
would be dangerous to go around00:12:03
especially if william is building them00:12:05
in his house from what we see in future00:12:07
games it even seems that william had put00:12:10
cameras throughout his house so that00:12:12
while he was working on his animatronics00:12:15
he could monitor exactly what his son00:12:17
was doing in the meantime evan's older00:12:19
brother michael began to torment evan00:12:22
over his fear of these creatures see at00:12:25
this point the brand had extended from00:12:27
not only fredbear's family diner but00:12:29
there was also fredbear and friends and00:12:32
there were several other mascots that00:12:34
would stand on stage along with fredbear00:12:36
one of these was a character by the name00:12:38
of foxy so michael would wear a foxy00:12:41
mask and begin tormenting his brother00:12:44
because he thought it was funny william00:12:46
didn't seem to mind this perhaps even00:12:48
encouraging it as he saw it as another00:12:51
way to keep his son safe the events of00:12:53
five nights at freddy's 4 which again00:12:55
according to me is the earliest game in00:12:57
the timeline follow the nightmares of00:13:00
young evan afton the reason the00:13:02
animatronics look so over the top creepy00:13:05
and terrifying is because these aren't00:13:07
real animatronics these are the00:13:09
nightmare imaginations of a young child00:13:11
who's afraid of his father's creations00:13:14
and evan is spending these sleepless00:13:16
nights trying to evade these creatures00:13:18
of his own imagination that is until the00:13:20
end of the week whenever afton and his00:13:22
family go to fredbear's family diner00:13:25
while there michael and his friends all00:13:27
wearing the mascot's faces begin to00:13:29
torment evan and make him get closer and00:13:32
closer to the animatronics themselves00:13:34
until michael makes a joke that evan00:13:36
wants to give fredbear a kiss to which00:13:39
the boys put evan into fredbear's mouth00:13:42
and whenever the animatronic bites down00:13:45

evan doesn't die yet at least not00:13:51
immediately his family rushes him to the00:13:53

bag or flower pod not only that but the00:14:07
nightmares within the final nights of00:14:10

animatronics from the restaurant to just00:14:16
nightmarish apparitions of fredbear00:14:18
himself while evan is lying in a00:14:20
hospital bed we hear michael tell evan00:14:23
that he's sorry and ask for his00:14:25
forgiveness until the fredbear plush00:14:27
itself begins to speak to evan as00:14:30
established earlier this is one of00:14:32
william afton's camera plushies so it's00:14:34
safe to assume that this is william00:14:36
speaking to his son in his final moments00:14:38
we hear william say that it's going to00:14:40
be okay and that he's going to put evan00:14:43
back together before everything fades00:14:45

if you're a big efficient auto of the00:14:50
series you may disagree with that00:14:52
placement in the story however this as00:14:55
well as the events that happen directly00:14:57

blah blah blah but again as a story this00:15:08
makes the most sense to me as the00:15:10
catalyst that began everything william a00:15:13
man who wanted to entertain children and00:15:15
managed to do so for decades began his00:15:18
mad descent when one of his children00:15:21
used one of william's own creations to00:15:24
kill his other child and then in that00:15:26
father's desperation he begins00:15:28
experiments and procedures to try to00:15:31
maintain the soul of a child see that's00:15:33
where the horror comes from for those of00:15:35
you who may have not known anything else00:15:37
about the five nights at freddy's games00:15:40
you've probably heard it has to do with00:15:42
dead children possessing animatronics00:15:44
and while the rules of it aren't00:15:46
explicitly laid clear at least not in00:15:48
the video games themselves it seems that00:15:51
if a child is killed by an animatronic00:15:53
or a piece of their body is put into00:15:56
that animatronic after death that their00:15:59
soul possesses the animatronic itself00:16:02
you can essentially think of it as a00:16:03
haunt or a haunted house if someone dies00:16:06
in a derelict mansion then they haunt00:16:08
that derelict mansion if someone dies00:16:11
and their body is put inside of an00:16:13
animatronic then their spirit possesses00:16:15

funtime animatronics with the express00:17:36
purpose of trapping another child so00:17:39

specifically designed with a giant claw00:17:53
inside of its chest cavity as well as00:17:55
sensors that would always calculate and00:17:57

alone all by themselves so that its claw00:18:08
could then come out and grab the child00:18:11

timeline the beginning of williams evil00:18:37
and murderous intent it seems that the00:18:39
death of his own child pushed william to00:18:42
such extreme lengths that he was now00:18:44
willing to kill another kid in order to00:18:47
either see what happened to his son or00:18:49
perhaps even find a way to bring him00:18:51
back during the construction of circus00:18:53
baby william's daughter elizabeth was in00:18:56
love with it probably because it was an00:18:58
animatronic that looked like a young00:18:59
girl and had the ability to serve ice00:19:01
cream on the opening day of a new freddy00:19:04
fazbear's sister location known as00:19:06
circus babies pizza world elizabeth00:19:09
managed to get away from her father and00:19:11
go see circus baby all by herself the00:19:14
circus baby animatronic calculating that00:19:17
elizabeth was the only one in the room00:19:19
put out a piece of ice cream to serve00:19:21
her before grabbing her and bringing her00:19:24
into her chest to which elizabeth was00:19:26
killed00:19:27
did you know that i was on stage once00:19:31
it wasn't for very long00:19:33

i would always count the children00:19:37

i was always acutely aware of how many00:19:42
there were in the room with me00:19:45

that her father tried to keep her away00:20:37
and she specifically went against his00:20:39
will in order to go see circus baby by00:20:41
herself it seems that he didn't want00:20:43
circus baby to kill his daughter00:20:45
elizabeth however that's exactly what00:20:47
happened despite this however his plan00:20:50
seemed to work and the soul of elizabeth00:20:53
began to possess the animatronic known00:20:55
as circus baby now whenever evan died00:21:00
it was simply seen as an accident while00:21:02
michael and his friends caused the death00:21:04
of evan they were children as well and00:21:07
it could be seen as a bullying incident00:21:09
gone wrong however when elizabeth00:21:11
disappeared that raised a lot more00:21:14
questions we're told in the games that00:21:16
the sister location known as circus00:21:18
baby's pizza world again the place where00:21:20
elizabeth was killed by circus baby we00:21:23
are told that it was closed due to gas00:21:26
leaks this obviously being a cover-up00:21:29
for this event here however there is no00:21:32
way this could have happened without00:21:34
henry knowing he was essentially the00:21:36
acting ceo over fazbear's entertainment00:21:39
