Let's check it again
00:00:03
Will it decreased by 20 kilometers
00:00:05
It have increased
00:00:07
Impressive Quite good
00:00:08
But something really did happen before
00:00:10
I mean when I worked there
00:00:11
You have been caught by police
00:00:12
Yeah Really Yes
00:00:15
I believe that for the time being
00:00:17
For cars of this level in China
00:00:19
Only this car is RR layout
00:00:21
Why do they have to do this
00:00:22
The manufacturer says it's to enhance the driving feel
00:00:27
There will be slightly increase
00:00:36
I haven't been here before
00:00:37
Shanghai Hongqiao New Development Area Very new
00:00:40
Today we're in Shanghai to test drive two cars
00:00:44
Two new Geely cars that are coming to Hong Kong soon
00:00:46
One of them is quite impressive
00:00:48
Plug-in hybrid
00:00:49
A car that uses less than 3L of fuel per 100 kilometers
00:00:52
Almost no fuel consumption Crazy
00:00:54
The other one is a small city electric car
00:00:58
With some new features
00:00:59
RR laypout Awesome
00:01:02
Such an interesting car
00:01:04
Where can we do test drive in Shanghai
00:01:06
Actually there aren't many places in Shanghai to test drive
00:01:10
Where did you test drive when you worked in Shanghai before
00:01:13
I mostly went to the race track
00:01:16
The Formula One track
00:01:17
That's impossible
00:01:18
Actually there's a smaller race track in Shanghai
00:01:20
I don't know if everyone knows about it
00:01:21
It's called Shanghai Tianma Circuit
00:01:22
Back when I worked at "Autocar"
00:01:25
I could do some lap time tests
00:01:26
Why not go there
00:01:29
It's quite far away
00:01:30
We'll also do a fuel consumption test this time
00:01:36
Just got in the car Driving range is over 900 kilometers
00:01:38
Have you seen it before
00:01:40
Even though it's a Plug-in Hybrid
00:01:41
The car we're driving now is the
00:01:43
Galaxy L7 EM-i
00:01:46
This is the large battery version
00:01:48
Equipped with approximately 19kWh LFP battery
00:01:52
There's also a 8kWh smaller battery version
00:01:55
There's a difference in the pure electric range between the two versions
00:01:59
This car hasn't been charged
00:02:02
So it only has 46km left
00:02:03
Theoretically the official figure
00:02:05
It stated up to 120 kilometers
00:02:06
And the smaller battery version can probably do about 50 kilometers
00:02:14
How long has it been since you last drove in Shanghai
00:02:17
Probably since I returned to Hong Kong in 2008
00:02:19
I haven't driven in Shanghai since then
00:02:21
Almost 20 years
00:02:25
But people drive quite aggressively here
00:02:26
I think it suits you well
00:02:28
You just act like this
00:02:29
But I'm an outsider I'm not in a rush
00:02:32
The distance to Shanghai Tianma Circuit
00:02:34
It seems not far away
00:02:36
Only dozens of kilometers
00:02:37
But when I worked in Shanghai
00:02:39
Sometimes I had to pick up cars from Pudong
00:02:42
Because I had to pick them up from dealers or manufacturers
00:02:45
It could take over an hour to drive there
00:02:47
That's often how I test drive in Shanghai
00:02:50
It's really a flat city
00:02:51
Apart from Shanghai Tianma Circuit
00:02:54
We would go to other places too
00:02:57
But it depends on the car arrangement
00:02:59
Because that particular car
00:03:00
They might not lend it to you for many days
00:03:02
Often we have to return it on the same day
00:03:03
If so
00:03:05
The test drive time could be very short
00:03:08
We might ended test drive around city centre only
00:03:11
You don't really get to test much
00:03:13
If it's such a short time
00:03:15
Then I will do a shorter segment
00:03:17
It can't be helped
00:03:18
And these temporary plates
00:03:21
You won't have a driver bring the car out to you like that
00:03:23
Meaning you have to pick up the car yourself
00:03:25
Yeah pick it up yourself
00:03:27
Can you feel the benefits of this "marshmallow seat"
00:03:31
I'm a bit distracted by the massage right now
00:03:35
Do you feel like you just don't want to turn the massage off
00:03:37
It feels pretty good
00:03:38
Many cars have massage functions
00:03:40
And we usually just try them out briefly
00:03:42
But in this car you'll find that
00:03:43
It's intensity and frequency are quite suitable
00:03:48
It's like those massage chairs that are harder
00:03:52
With that feeling of pressing on your back all at once
00:03:55
The entire system is called "Thor"
00:03:57
That's the Galaxy 7 EM-i's Plug-in Hybrid system
00:04:01
Because Geely has two hybrid systems
00:04:03
One of them has higher performance
00:04:05
I think it's called EM-P
00:04:06
That's the one Lynk & Co uses
00:04:08
EM-I seems this is the first car to use it
00:04:11
Pursuing ultimate fuel efficiency
00:04:13
So that's why it can achieve 3L/100km
00:04:18
It's not just a claim
00:04:19
It has some technical substance
00:04:21
This powertrain system
00:04:22
That is the engine plus Plug-in Hybrid system
00:04:24
The overall thermal efficiency reaches 46.5%
00:04:28
That's quite high
00:04:29
Because Toyota's hybrid system
00:04:31
It is already known for its high thermal efficiency
00:04:33
At least 40%
00:04:35
And BYD which their competitor
00:04:37
It has a similar system
00:04:38
Reaching 46%
00:04:39
So its thermal efficiency is impressive
00:04:42
Being able to achieve this
00:04:43
Of course it's related to the engine's special design
00:04:46
Including the intake and ignition timing
00:04:48
The cooling method all-aluminum alloy
00:04:51
And it has a very special system
00:04:54
Besides having two motors
00:04:56
It also has something similar to Toyota's power split device
00:04:59
So it's a parallel hybrid system
00:05:02
It can drive purely on electric power
00:05:03
Or the engine and motor can work together
00:05:06
So it's not like the other hybrid systems
00:05:09
Which we've seen in Hong Kong before
00:05:10
Such as the Zero Hybrid e-POWER
00:05:12
Or even Honda's hybrid system
00:05:13
It's more similar to Toyota's hybrid system
00:05:16
And then there's its battery
00:05:18
It has a large battery and a small battery
00:05:19
But they equipped with LFP batteries
00:05:20
Not created by CATL
00:05:21
Not BYD's batteries
00:05:22
It's manufactured by another company
00:05:23
But its energy density
00:05:25
It reaches 170 kWh/kg
00:05:28
Which is also higher than the common LFP battery
00:05:31
Which is 160 kWh/kg slightly
00:05:32
So that's why its body is relatively light
00:05:36
Have you noticed that
00:05:37
That I've parked the car for so long
00:05:38
And the engine hasn't started at all
00:05:39
Yes there's no engine sound at all
00:05:41
I think we've been parked for almost 45 minutes
00:05:44
Yes the engine hasn't started at all
00:05:47
This could be used for a workout it's so heavy
00:05:49
It's hard to imagine this car weighs 1,700kg
00:05:53
is made entirely of iron
00:05:54
Iron man
00:06:05
Did you hear the engine sound
00:06:07
When you accelerated just now
00:06:09
You couldn't really hear the engine sound
00:06:12
You can't really hear it that well
00:06:14
Firstly this car prioritizes comfort
00:06:17
I've looked at the specs
00:06:19
The chassis uses a lot of softer bushings
00:06:23
And they've added more points of contact
00:06:25
Which reduces noise during driving
00:06:27
And reduces vibrations
00:06:29
Also there's the firewall
00:06:32
Which is the part where your feet rest
00:06:34
The soundproofing material is thicker
00:06:36
Officially they say they used 6kg of soundproofing material
00:06:39
Just for lining the firewall
00:06:40
6kg is quite a lot
00:06:42
Generally many manufacturer
00:06:44
They use 4kg of materials
00:06:46
So it uses 50% more than others
00:06:48
I think that's reasonable
00:06:49
Because of these fuel-efficient engines
00:06:51
We've tested quite a few of them in Hong Kong
00:06:54
Typical engines are also relatively noisy
00:06:56
Unless it's some more expensive cars
00:06:59
But right now driving on the highway
00:07:01
What I'm hearing is mostly tire noise
00:07:03
This might due to tires
00:07:06
Let's try a hard acceleration
00:07:07
I'm ready
00:07:09
Let's go
00:07:14
Finally hearing the engine
00:07:16
So it was running in pure electric mode
00:07:18
But doesn't it have a short battery range
00:07:22
It had 45 kilometers
00:07:23
Let's check again
00:07:25
Will it have dropped by 20 kilometers already
00:07:27
It's actually increased
00:07:29
Impressive it's quite clever
00:07:31
Because it uses "intelligent mode"
00:07:33
So which system is actually being used while driving
00:07:36
When to recharge the battery
00:07:38
It will calculate itself
00:07:39
In other words this Plug-in hybrid system
00:07:40
Doesn't just deplete the battery first
00:07:42
And then rely on the engine to help propel or even charge it
00:07:46
The "intelligent Mode" seems quite impressive
00:07:49
The battery level keeps increasing
00:07:51
It's quite satisfying just seeing the numbers increase Yes
00:08:00
Everything's different now
00:08:02
00:08:03
It was literally just a shed
00:08:05
Similar to Zhuhai in the early days
00:08:08
There weren't many buildings
00:08:09
Basically it's just a low shed
00:08:10
Wow it's amazing now
00:08:14
But actually this racetrack is quite small
00:08:16
It's a bit of a shame we can't go inside and take a look
00:08:20
Because the racetrack's layout probably hasn't changed
00:08:23
It's only about two kilometers long
00:08:25
But it's already the most accessible racetrack in Shanghai
00:08:28
You have mentioned the F1 circuit earlier Yes
00:08:31
Do you want to go in
00:08:32
It's not that easy
00:08:36
How about we go somewhere else Sounds good
00:08:38
Get in
00:08:45
The turning radius is really small
00:08:48
It's definitely the real deal
00:08:50
The turning diameter is less than 11 meters
00:08:53
It's really small
00:08:54
Because the wheelbase of this car isn't particularly short
00:08:57
Of course it's not a very big car
00:09:00
If we compare the size of the vehicles
00:09:02
It's roughly between the BMW iX and iX3
00:09:07
I'm a little curious
00:09:08
Have you ever taken a seemingly ordinary car to the racetrack
00:09:10
Have you ever taken a seemingly ordinary car to the racetrack
00:09:15
Not a lot of them
00:09:17
I remember I drove Chinese car into the track
00:09:20
It was a Chinese car from 20 years ago
00:09:22
Only entry-level car were made in China
00:09:24
I mean independent brands
00:09:26
Any car made by Geely
00:09:29
Yes
00:09:31
Seriously
00:09:32
Geely used to have a sports car
00:09:35
It's named 'Beauty Leopard' from 20 years ago
00:09:37
I don't know if you can remember or not
00:09:38
It sounds powerful
00:09:40
Actually it was a two-door coupe similar to the Hyundai Coupe
00:09:46
The car body was very small
00:09:47
I remember taking it to the racetrack once
00:09:49
But the engine wasn't very good back then
00:09:51
It was an early model after all
00:09:53
Edmond where are you taking us now
00:09:55
Actually my friend recommended this place
00:09:58
He said we wouldn't be kicked out at this place
00:10:00
I also asked about it
00:10:01
So if that's the case
00:10:03
Are there many places in Shanghai
00:10:05
Where filming can be a bit risky
00:10:06
When we were at Shanghai Tianma Circuit
00:10:09
There might have been some closed-door activities going on
00:10:10
That's why everyone seemed so tense
00:10:12
But there's something happened when I worked there
00:10:15
Caught by police
00:10:16
Yeah Really Yes
00:10:19
It wasn't in Shanghai
00:10:21
I remember it happened in Hainan
00:10:23
I didn't go
00:10:24
You saw a sea and dock
00:10:26
You saw a sea and dock
00:10:27
The car was parked on the side for taking pictures
00:10:30
But the background was the sea and the dock
00:10:32
Very far away and very small
00:10:34
It was a military dock
00:10:38
Things got serious
00:10:39
Then officers actually came out
00:10:42
And arrested my colleague
00:10:43
Wow that's scary Yeah
00:10:45
What happened next
00:10:46
Actually nothing happened They just investigated
00:10:49
Asked what you doing here
00:10:51
I never thought they'd investigate from so far away
00:10:54
In the end, they detained him for a while and then released him
00:11:00
That's interesting
00:11:09
It's actually quite quick
00:11:11
It's really sufficient for daily use
00:11:13
It's powertrain integration is well done
00:11:16
Even when the engine kicks in
00:11:18
With the help of electric drive to the wheels
00:11:21
The whole process
00:11:22
It feels like it's simulating electric drive
00:11:25
But it doesn't have that huge instant torque feel
00:11:28
So this Plug-in Hybrid system
00:11:30
The first thing is that Its power
00:11:32
It seems more powerful than the Toyota hybrid system
00:11:36
Also the regenerative braking
00:11:37
It's in automatic mode now
00:11:39
Turn on high regen level and you'll feel that
00:11:42
There's also no drag at the beginning
00:11:45
If you guys are watching the video
00:11:46
It should be about one second
00:11:49
Why don't you try sitting in the back seat
00:11:51
Because this car focuses on the rear seats
00:11:53
Rear seat tester
00:11:58
But actually the way I see it now
00:12:01
Maybe with this large sunroof
00:12:04
I feel there's a lot of headroom
00:12:07
This car is a mid-size MPV
00:12:10
And the roofline extends straight back quite a bit
00:12:12
This car uses a more practical design
00:12:14
The headroom seems even better than my Model Y
00:12:17
The body design of this car
00:12:20
Actually its drag coefficient isn't too bad
00:12:23
The drag coefficient is quite good
00:12:25
Cd 0.288
00:12:27
For this type of SUV
00:12:28
Of course I'm referring to domestic cars
00:12:30
It's a relatively low figure
00:12:31
So when we were driving on the highway earlier
00:12:34
There wasn't too much wind noise
00:12:36
Driving over these bumpy roads
00:12:37
How do you feel
00:12:38
It feels like a gummy candy
00:12:41
Resiliently getting through
00:12:43
It doesn't feels like your Model Y
00:12:47
It feels softer
00:12:48
The feeling of me sitting in it
00:12:50
It's not like the XPeng G6
00:12:51
I think the suspension on this car is softer
00:12:54
Also this is a front-wheel-drive car
00:12:56
Front MacPherson rear multi-link.
00:12:59
I just checked the bottom of the car
00:13:01
I noticed its lower control arm is quite long
00:13:03
The points where the two control arms extend towards the car's centerline
00:13:06
They are quite close to the centerline
00:13:08
If the control arms are this long
00:13:10
You can imagine that
00:13:11
When there's actual movement
00:13:12
It's mostly moving along the centerline
00:13:14
It's not like one side is rising up
00:13:19
Don't you think that
00:13:21
Plug-in hybrids have always been expensive in Hong Kong Yes
00:13:25
But in mainland China nowadays
00:13:26
Something like this Galaxy 7 EM-i
00:13:28
It isn't really that expensive
00:13:31
You can get it for just over 100,000 RMB
00:13:33
Let's have a chitchat
00:13:35
Of course the tax is different
00:13:37
This kind of fuel-efficient SUV
00:13:40
Let's not to be exaggerate so much
00:13:41
With a range of 1,500 kilometers
00:13:43
Or even 2,000 kilometers
00:13:45
200,000 RMB
00:13:46
200,000 RMB is actually very attractive
00:13:50
I have to say one more thing
00:13:51
This Plug-in Hybrid system
00:13:55
AC charging supports 3.3kW
00:13:58
Which means the speed isn't high
00:14:00
But you can imagine that
00:14:01
Such a small battery
00:14:02
The maximum speed is 19kWh
00:14:04
At 3.3kW it'll be fully charged in 6 hours no matter what
00:14:07
Fast charging supports over 30kW
00:14:10
Over 30kW
00:14:11
Which means it'll be fully charged in no time
00:14:13
But if come to Hong Kong
00:14:14
Would it also be $200,000
00:14:16
Because there are no tax incentives Yes
00:14:19
How about this
00:14:20
We'll leave this part to the audience
00:14:22
How much do you think it would cost in Hong Kong
00:14:24
To make you interested
00:14:26
Leave a comment and let us know
00:14:29
5.4 liters per 100 kilometers
00:14:32
We drove 94.6km
00:14:36
Is that a good result
00:14:37
The official figure is around 3L/100km
00:14:39
How is that even achievable in reality
00:14:42
Around 5L/100 is already acceptable
00:14:44
Okay
00:14:46
We couldn't go to Shanghai Tianma Circuit
00:14:47
We soent half day over day
00:14:49
Then we switched to another car
00:14:51
It called Star Wish
00:14:54
I wonder if it's still called the Star Wish
00:14:55
After coming to Hong Kong.
00:14:56
It's actually a movie name in Hong Kong
00:14:59
It's actually a movie name in Hong Kong
00:15:02
Starring Cecilia Cheung
00:15:03
It's your generation don't pretend you don't know it
00:15:05
I should have seen it
00:15:06
But I can't remember the movie name
00:15:08
Cecilia Cheung was a goddess in your era
00:15:11
It seems like she isn't anymore
00:15:13
Really
00:15:14
Maybe she's Ar Fu's era's goddess
00:15:15
Seriously
00:15:17
This is a compact car
00:15:18
Its dimensions are quite interesting
00:15:20
A bit shorter than the ORA 03
00:15:22
50mm shorter than the Dolphin
00:15:25
It's more similar to MINI Aceman
00:15:28
But still bigger than the MINI Aceman
00:15:30
Actually where is our destination
00:15:32
We went to Shanghai Tianma Circuit
00:15:34
But we couldn't see it
00:15:36
I want to see what my old workplace looks like now
00:15:39
And how the place I used to live
00:15:40
Now we're taking the outer ring road to Pudong
00:15:43
Because I remember that
00:15:45
When I lived in Pudong back then
00:15:47
My colleagues were shocked that
00:15:48
Why would I live in Pudong
00:15:51
It's so far away
00:15:52
Your workplace seems far away from here
00:15:55
Because I work near the city center in Puxi
00:15:58
The actual distance isn't really that far
00:16:00
But the traffic situation is often not smooth
00:16:04
Usually it takes about half an hour to get back
00:16:06
You live outside the city center
00:16:08
Half-hour journey is normal
00:16:09
Actually yes
00:16:11
But their half hour
00:16:12
It Is constantly driving on the highway
00:16:13
Your half hour is constant traffic jams
00:16:15
You probably couldn't handle that
00:16:17
You're so impatient
00:16:18
No I am not
00:16:20
I feel like things move slowly since I came to Shanghai
00:16:24
I'm just listening first
00:16:25
Because when you come to a new place
00:16:28
You have to learn the local culture first
00:16:31
If you just arrive
00:16:32
Then just speeding like you're on Princess Road
00:16:33
What's going to happen How many accidents could there be
00:16:36
Because I drive in Shanghai
00:16:37
There really are cultural differences
00:16:39
It feels a bit better now
00:16:41
I'm telling you
00:16:42
If some roads have three lanes going through an S-curve together
00:16:45
Everyone will always end up taking one lane
00:16:48
Forming a straight line
00:16:49
Plus the work pressure back then
00:16:52
It wasn't as high as in Hong Kong
00:16:53
Basically I didn't have to write much
00:16:57
So what did you do
00:16:58
Actually I used to be an editorial consultant
00:17:02
I think for those familiar with the publishing industry in China know that
00:17:05
Publishing in China
00:17:07
All publications have an ISBN
00:17:08
The ISBN belongs to the country
00:17:09
To be the editor-in-chief responsible for an ISBN
00:17:12
Theoretically you have to be a local
00:17:13
That is someone with a national ID card
00:17:15
I only had a temporary residence permit
00:17:17
I couldn't hold those positions
00:17:21
In fact I was the editor-in-chief
00:17:23
You could say that
00:17:24
Officially it was a demotion in rank Yes
00:17:28
Actually early publishing was more of a technical exchange
00:17:31
Hong Kong's publishing industry has developed for many years
00:17:34
To some extent
00:17:35
You could say they have more experience
00:17:37
Publishing in mainland China is a different ecosystem
00:17:39
After they shifted to a stronger commercial model
00:17:42
They wanted editors with commercial model experience
00:17:45
Or people with experience to do it
00:17:48
So I didn't have to write articles back then
00:17:50
I will go out for test drive
00:17:52
I would go to Shanghai Tianma Circuit
00:17:54
Because driving on a racetrack
00:17:55
Back then my colleagues from China
00:17:57
Didn't have much experience yet
00:17:59
I was the one setting all the lap times
00:18:00
Aren't you actually The Stig
00:18:03
But I didn't have a helmet
00:18:05
Later my colleagues started getting more and more experienced
00:18:08
I'd let them do some of it
00:18:10
Getting back to why I lived in Pudong
00:18:12
I don't think you're very familiar with Pudong
00:18:15
Pudong seems to be a more open Yes
00:18:19
Actually the building planning is also done better there
00:18:22
The spacing is better
00:18:24
The residential complexes are large
00:18:25
But the roads are wider
00:18:27
There are some parks separating things
00:18:29
It feels more open and airy
00:18:31
At the end Shanghai has been developing for so many years
00:18:33
It's very different from before
00:18:37
The steering wheel of this car feels great
00:18:39
We were constantly changing lanes just now
00:18:41
The turning diameter is less than 10 meters Very small
00:18:46
And you can turn it a lot
00:18:48
For example when you encounter traffic jams
00:18:50
If you suddenly want to go to right lane
00:18:51
It's easy to predict when to change lanes
00:18:53
And constantly accelerating decelerating and braking
00:18:58
Currently we're using lowest level of regen
00:18:59
Currently we're using lowest level of regen
00:19:02
And "Comfort" driving mode
00:19:04
The brake pedal is in "Comfort" mode
00:19:05
And 'Comfort Parking' is enabled
00:19:07
This is my favorite setting
00:19:09
Everything is set to 'Comfort'
00:19:11
Passenger agreed
00:19:12
Yes because Kennith have tested it
00:19:16
If I use medium or high regen
00:19:19
He could feel me accelerating and lifting off the throttle
00:19:21
But now I'm using the lowest regen
00:19:24
Plus Comfort mode
00:19:25
I can control the car very smoothly
00:19:28
But I feel like this car has something special
00:19:33
For a small car
00:19:35
You can try to open the glove box
00:19:37
It opens flat
00:19:39
It's actually a drawer
00:19:41
This is the glove drawer
00:19:44
But this design is interesting
00:19:46
And the things inside are very flat
00:19:49
Actually after pulling it out add a board
00:19:51
It can become a small table
00:19:53
This car also has a secret compartment
00:19:56
Which located at the bottom of rear seats
00:19:59
There's a recessed storage compartment
00:20:03
Like many domestic electric vehicles
00:20:07
This car has a camping mode
00:20:10
It has V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function
00:20:11
Which means it can discharge power
00:20:13
Its discharging power can go up to 3,300W
00:20:15
Its discharging power can go up to 3,300W
00:20:17
That's enough for a typical induction cooker
00:20:20
And there's something very special
00:20:23
It has a speaker that plays outwards
00:20:25
So when you're camping or playing outside and park the car
00:20:28
The car can become a host for playing music loudly
00:20:32
This Geely Xingyuan is very special
00:20:34
Because I didn't expect it to be like this
00:20:35
It's not following the trend
00:20:39
Big battery long range
00:20:41
Instead, they're using a smaller battery
00:20:42
It comes in two versions
00:20:44
You can take a look at this specification
00:20:45
A smaller battery version and a larger battery version
00:20:46
The differences in range horsepower and torque of them
00:20:49
It might not surprise you
00:20:51
It might not surprise you
00:20:52
This thing has already proven that
00:20:54
Geely has some ideas about this car
00:20:56
In fact the frame structure of this car
00:20:59
It isn't actually fully packed with batteries
00:21:02
It reserves some space
00:21:03
To be a buffer for impacts
00:21:06
Also the lithium iron phosphate battery it's currently using
00:21:08
It has a very high energy density
00:21:10
Exceeding 180Wh/kg
00:21:13
Typical batteries in the same class are around 140 to 160Wh/kg
00:21:17
The ones you can buy in Hong Kong are about the same
00:21:19
So it's actually a very energy-efficient car
00:21:21
So it's actually a very energy-efficient car
00:21:22
However the battery is small
00:21:24
The overall horsepower output won't be tuned very high
00:21:27
So the specification number aren't that impressive
00:21:29
You can already see Geely's thinking with this
00:21:32
They're not just following the mainstream trend
00:21:34
Another thing is that This car weighs only 1,285 kilograms
00:21:38
It has a range of 410 kilometers
00:21:40
That's the top-spec version
00:21:41
This weight is lighter than a
00:21:43
3-door 1,500cc three-cylinder turbocharged Mini Cooper
00:21:48
But it's an electric car
00:21:49
Did you ever imagine that
00:21:50
Why is it so light
00:21:51
The first reason is that
00:21:52
65% of this car's body components
00:21:55
It was made of high-strength steel
00:21:57
To achieve the same torsional resistance
00:22:00
The steel can actually be made thinner
00:22:02
Because it's strong enough
00:22:04
Also the entire drive motor
00:22:07
Transmission and electronic controls
00:22:09
It only weigh slightly over 50 kilograms which is very light
00:22:11
In other words
00:22:12
Geely put a lot of effort into controlling the car's weight
00:22:16
The motor I just mentioned
00:22:18
It is an integrated design
00:22:20
The manufacturer has named it as
00:22:21
"11-in-1" complete system
00:22:24
We saw the real thing at the Shanghai Auto Show
00:22:26
It's really compact
00:22:28
It has everything inside
00:22:30
Everything is complete
00:22:31
And there's another feature
00:22:32
It's placed on the rear axle
00:22:34
I believe in this class of car in China until now
00:22:38
Only this model is rear-motor rear-wheel drive
00:22:40
Why do they do it this way
00:22:41
The manufacturer says it's to enhance the driving feel
00:22:46
It gained some benefit
00:22:47
But the steering wheel feel
00:22:49
It isn't as dramatic as a gasoline-powered rear-wheel drive car
00:22:52
Because it's electric power steering just a simulation
00:22:54
But the body's stability
00:22:56
With rear-wheel drive during rapid acceleration
00:22:58
The front wheels are indeed less prone to slipping
00:23:01
And making tire squeal
00:23:02
The body is a bit more stable
00:23:04
Plus now they've designed the car
00:23:05
With 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution
00:23:08
It seems this car has some thought put into its dynamic design
00:23:12
It seems this car has some thought put into its dynamic design
00:23:14
The manufacturer wants it to be easier and more fun to drive
00:23:17
Although it has a bit less horsepower
00:23:18
And the range is a little shorter
00:23:19
The driving feel is more intense
00:23:22
Of course the feeling of a rear-wheel-drive car pushing its tail out
00:23:25
It is definitely more exhilarating
00:23:27
When you accelerate hard
00:23:28
Front-wheel-drive cars especially electric car it can't handle it
00:23:32
It might spin
00:23:34
The feeling isn't that great at all
00:23:35
There is another thing
00:23:36
According to some domestic media
00:23:39
This car can perfom drifting
00:23:43
If the manufacturer disables ESC
00:23:45
But the ESC system of this car
00:23:46
Can you disable it yourself
00:23:47
No it has to be specially disabled by the manufacturer
00:23:56
You seem to be reminiscing about the old days
00:23:58
Yes
00:24:00
When I worked at Shanghai
00:24:03
One of the reasons I live in Pudong is that
00:24:05
As I mentioned the open space and vastness
00:24:08
The apartments in Pudong are much bigger
00:24:11
How big
00:24:12
Over 2,000 square feet
00:24:13
Wow
00:24:15
It seems like two apartments per floor
00:24:17
How many rooms does it have
00:24:18
Actually it has three rooms
00:24:20
Isn't your house was super huge
00:24:22
Yes it was
00:24:24
Later I realized there was a room
00:24:26
I wouldn't even go into it once a year
00:24:28
And its terrace
00:24:30
Even if you put two mahjong tables
00:24:32
It allows 8 people play mahjong together
00:24:34
It was so big
00:24:36
Back then I chose this place
00:24:37
The rent was relatively expensive too
00:24:38
Let me tell you the rent was 10,000 RMB
00:24:40
It was a new building at the time
00:24:41
And it was developed by a Singaporean developer
00:24:44
The quality was really good
00:24:46
It had a clubhouse and underground parking
00:24:49
Yes it's was the unit
00:24:52
And I have a feeling that
00:24:54
When I worked in Shanghai
00:24:56
Driving half an hour every day
00:24:59
Or even 20 minutes
00:25:01
That's what makes it feel like life very fulfilling
00:25:03
There definitely has to be a driving component
00:25:05
Actually you moved so far away
00:25:06
You were here to drive
00:25:08
Guise of being able to drive
00:25:11
Later when the lease expired
00:25:12
And I think about that
00:25:14
I don't need to live in such a big house
00:25:15
I really didn't need it
00:25:16
Although I personally don't think it's expensive
00:25:19
My colleagues said I'm crazy
00:25:20
Living in such an expensive place Crazy
00:25:22
Then I moved to here
00:25:24
Right across from here
00:25:27
Looks like it's this building
00:25:28
Also a three rooms apartment
00:25:30
But it seems like 1,500 square feet Quite big too
00:25:33
That would be enough for me
00:25:37
Back then this place was really desolate
00:25:39
During summer
00:25:40
When I walk from here to shop
00:25:43
It felt like being sunburned
00:25:47
But I don't believe you'd walk that many times
00:25:49
I wouldn't walk
00:25:50
I would definitely drive there
00:25:53
Now it's lush and beautiful
00:25:55
It's pretty good now
00:26:01
I have one more thing to say
00:26:03
Actually the entire electronic control system
00:26:05
It's not just about being smooth
00:26:08
Actually it feels very light
00:26:10
Of all the EVs we've driven
00:26:13
This one feels like the lightest
00:26:15
No matter how hard you push
00:26:17
If it's a heavy car
00:26:18
You can always feel its weight
00:26:21
If the car body is light enough
00:26:22
You won't feel its mass
00:26:25
Plus the power of the motor
00:26:27
It's already so strong at such low RPMs
00:26:28
When you accelerate
00:26:30
It doesn't have the burden of weight
00:26:32
The whole feeling is very smooth
00:26:34
There's another reason
00:26:35
And that's the rear-wheel drive
00:26:36
When the traction of all four wheels is this stable
00:26:38
When the traction of all four wheels is this stable
00:26:39
It's beneficial whether you're accelerating or braking
00:26:42
If it's this smooth
00:26:45
It's suitable for people who aren't highly skilled drivers
00:26:47
Is that so Because passengers
00:26:49
It can easily sense if the driver isn't driving well
00:26:53
Yes you're right
00:26:55
Anyone can hop in and drive it
00:26:57
Passengers probably won't feel too uncomfortable
00:27:00
It's suitable for people who are new to driving electric cars
00:27:03
Plus modern cars have such good electronic controls
00:27:06
Such a light electric car
00:27:08
The driving experience is much more enjoyable
00:27:10
Also I think the manufacturer
00:27:13
It didn't deliberately tune the powertrain
00:27:16
To a very high ratio
00:27:18
They didn't make it so that when you accelerate
00:27:19
Or let you achieve a very quick 0-100 km/h time
00:27:22
They didn't do that
00:27:23
Instead they created a smoother feel
00:27:25
I think the whole car
00:27:27
It is designed for small families
00:27:29
Is 400 kilometers enough
00:27:32
Of course it depends on where you're going
00:27:34
But 400 kilometers
00:27:35
For a car of this size
00:27:36
It is a pretty common figure
00:27:38
Of course some of them are exaggerated
00:27:39
Some even claim over 500 kilometers
00:27:41
But it requires a very heavy battery
00:27:43
Because with such a heavy battery installed
00:27:44
And such a short wheelbase
00:27:45
The advantages that small cars originally had
00:27:48
Some of them will be diminished
00:27:50
There's also something else
00:27:51
Did you see I tried it earlier
00:27:54
A large rear seat
00:27:55
This person has very agile movements
00:27:57
Because its rear door can open very wide
00:28:00
The door can't open to 90 degrees
00:28:03
But its door frame is very large
00:28:04
And the sill is level with the floor
00:28:08
You won't end up jumping down and falling hard
00:28:12
Plus it has a flat floor itself
00:28:13
Of course it's a flat floor
00:28:15
You can get out of the car quickly
00:28:16
Like a stuntman
00:28:19
Can you feel it feels like the marshmallows
00:28:21
Not really the suspension itself is actually tuned to be softer
00:28:25
This is a common suspension setup for domestic family cars
00:28:30
It's tuned to be softer
00:28:31
But it's not too soft
00:28:35
It feels a bit like a gummy candy
00:28:37
The suspension has a bit of that feeling
00:28:39
Plus the subframe
00:28:41
It uses a lot of soft suspension components
00:28:43
Of course soft mount are more prone to damage
00:28:46
They need to be replaced more frequently
00:28:48
But this is an affordable car to begin with
00:28:50
I believe the parts won't be too expensive
00:28:53
Plus these tires are particularly thick
00:28:55
For such a combination
00:28:57
It makes it feel very comfortable
00:28:59
This car is really quite comfortable
00:29:01
And it's very quiet with good shock absorption
00:29:04
Combined with the seats and tires
00:29:06
It feels like you're sitting on even more cushioning
00:29:08
Not just one cushion but three cushions
00:29:11
This thing too
00:29:12
I think Geely had a lot of ideas when they made this car
00:29:30
This is where I used to work
00:29:32
"Autocar"
00:29:33
Apart from "Autocar"
00:29:35
Apart from "Autocar"
00:29:36
Also "What Car?"
00:29:38
And "Stuff Magazine"
00:29:39
I don't know if you know "Stuff Magazine" or not
00:29:41
It's a magazine about gadgets and small items
00:29:43
It's quite famous abroad as well
00:29:44
It was very popular in the UK
00:29:46
I remember they focus on these three magazines
00:29:47
But it's really completely different now
00:29:49
Because down here
00:29:51
The shopping mall below has been rebuilt
00:29:54
It used to feel like a state-owned department store
00:29:57
I used to enter from here
00:30:00
My room faced the North-South Elevated Road
00:30:02
I could see this road directly
00:30:05
I saw traffic jams here every day
00:30:07
And my room was very big
00:30:09
How big was it
00:30:11
I think it was about the same size as today's nano apartments
00:30:15
It was about 100 to 200 square feet big
00:30:18
Meaning you could sleep at the office
00:30:20
There was a 3-seater sofa inside
00:30:23
Did your previous job require you to stay overnight at the company
00:30:26
No after I came here
00:30:28
The work became much easier
00:30:30
Firstly what I wrote wasn't suitable for here
00:30:33
My colleagues helped me to drastically revise the content
00:30:36
I was happy not to have to write
00:30:38
Secondly I do more planning
00:30:41
Actually the colleagues all need experience
00:30:44
So sometimes before test drives
00:30:46
Everyone will discuss what ideas they have
00:30:49
And I give them some ideas too
00:30:50
If we're going for a test drive
00:30:52
If you want to test drive What should we pay attention to
00:30:54
Whenever I do a test drive I usually go out too
00:30:57
I always look at the script
00:30:59
But I haven't proofreading the content that much But I haven't proofreading the content that much
00:31:00
I used to handle everything myself at "Top Gear"
00:31:04
But there are 8 people working on one book here
00:31:08
So is it quite relaxed
00:31:12
Actually it is
00:31:13
Because your role is different now
00:31:15
You're doing different things
00:31:16
If it's about editorial work
00:31:18
Of course it's easier than before
00:31:20
But the pressure you'll face
00:31:21
It is from other things
00:31:23
Where are you taking me to
00:31:24
The place where we used to have meetings
00:31:26
Did you left the company
00:31:28
Yes I love leaving the company for meetings
00:31:31
Bringing some new culture to colleagues
00:31:34
Don't be so serious
00:31:35
Of course back then even a coffee was expensive
00:31:38
It cost over 10 RMB
00:31:40
Of course I always paid
00:31:42
Why don't we need meetings now
00:31:45
We're all experienced veterans now
00:31:47
No need for meetings
00:31:49
Straight to work
00:31:50
We only talk few works before starting
00:31:51
Then everyone knows what to do
00:31:53
We've been working together for so many years
00:31:54
Everyone should know what to do
00:31:56
They're all gone now
00:31:58
This is the main way head to subway station
00:32:01
There used to be some stalls along the roadside
00:32:03
So tiny
00:32:04
Like a container restaurant selling coffee
00:32:08
But they're all gone nice and clean
00:32:12
Did you go to the places you wanted to go
00:32:15
We went almost all places
00:32:17
Because I spent the most time in those places
00:32:20
A group of very motivated young people working together
00:32:23
And we made a lot of really good stuff
00:32:25
I still remember
00:32:26
This young man
00:32:27
Of course I was young
00:32:29
I still remember after we finished it
00:32:31
The editor-in-chief from the UK saw it and said
00:32:33
"Excellent"
00:32:35
I was actually very happy
00:32:36
Did you finished Yes
00:32:40
Let's have some Shanghainese food after work
00:32:43
He's the local boss
00:32:44
Actually not
00:32:46
When I came to Shanghai
00:32:48
And I heard people speaking Shanghainese
00:32:50
I felt a sense of familiarity for some reason
00:32:52
Although I didn't understand
00:32:54
But it felt very familiar to me
00:32:56

Description:

Geely Galaxy L7 EM-i (simply called Starship 7) and the pure electric compact car Xingyuan are both recently launched models by Geely. The Starship 7 EM-i features a plug-in hybrid system with two battery options: 8.5 kWh and 19.09 kWh, paired with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The hybrid operates in parallel mode, meaning the engine can both generate electricity to charge the battery and help drive the front wheels. The Starship 7 EM-i’s CLTC fuel consumption in China is 3.75 L/100 km, which is over 20–30% more efficient than the domestically made Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, which is not a plug-in hybrid. In terms of engine thermal efficiency, the Starship 7 EM-i reaches 46.5%, slightly higher than Toyota hybrid’s approximate 40%. In China, the Starship 7 is priced between about 80,000 to 120,000 RMB, with dimensions close to the BMW iX3, making it very practical. Since Hong Kong offers no tax incentives for hybrid or plug-in hybrid cars for one-to-one tax relief, the Starship 7’s price in Hong Kong including registration tax will not be lower than HKD 200,000. Do you find such a plug-in hybrid SUV appealing? Geely’s Xingyuan is sized similarly to the Ora 3, BYD Dolphin, and Mini Aceman EVs available in Hong Kong, but it uses a rare rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout for its class. Geely calls its integrated “eleven-in-one” motor, electronics, and transmission unit compact and light (around 50 kg). Components like the air conditioner are placed under the front hood, so although Xingyuan is a rear-driven small car, it still has excellent storage space both front and rear, and very good cabin space. Geely putting so much effort into a small EV priced between 60,000 to 90,000 RMB is aimed at driving pleasure, offering the driver a richer experience. Edmond Lau test drove the Starship 7 EM-i and the 410 km-range version of Xingyuan in Shanghai and said the biggest surprise was the Xingyuan. The left-hand-drive Xingyuan is currently displayed at Geely’s showroom in Hong Kong. You can go see it and especially try its so-called “marshmallow seat,” which is very comfortable. ———————————————————— Join REV Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIGUFivK2exiseCZLpfkaew/join ———————————————————— #revchannel #geely ———————————————————— Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/revchannelhk IG: https://www.instagram.com/revchannelhk ———————————————————— Host IG Edmond: https://www.instagram.com/edmondlau.rev Lung Sir: https://www.instagram.com/hingcheunglung Yiu Tsz Ho|Afu: https://www.instagram.com/yiutszho_fu ———————————————————— Our BGM comes from: https://artlist.io/admin-2717569
