00:00:00
hey everyone and welcome back to the
00:00:01
channel so a while back i made a video
00:00:04
of a blade sculpture that i painted
00:00:07
probably about five or six years ago and
00:00:09
it was the wesley snipes portrait on it
00:00:12
and i've been getting a lot of questions
00:00:14
on how did i paint that portrait what
00:00:18
did i use as far as paint method so i
00:00:21
decided today we're going to do a video
00:00:23
and show you about dark skin tones and
00:00:26
in today's video you guessed it we're
00:00:28
going to use another blade sculpture so
00:00:31
the blade sculpture i'm using today was
00:00:33
designed by dennis zowery it is a more
00:00:37
of a comic type
00:00:39
piece a little bit different than what
00:00:40
i'm used to but we're going to try some
00:00:42
realistic skin tones i'm going to show
00:00:44
you a quick and easy way how to do this
00:00:47
so i printed this in a quarter scale so
00:00:49
it is very big so you can see a lot of
00:00:51
the detail and a lot of what goes into
00:00:53
it
00:00:54
so enough of the talking let's get into
00:00:56
the video all right so this model is
00:00:58
pretty simple to uh go over there's only
00:01:02
three major parts for the skin tones
00:01:05
which is the head sculpt like this
00:01:08
and of course we'll do the tattoo on the
00:01:09
back and do the hair and the eyes and
00:01:12
then of course there's the arms that
00:01:14
also have the tattoo on there
00:01:16
and we'll do some shading on there show
00:01:18
you how to do that with dark skin tones
00:01:21
and
00:01:22
that's pretty much it now we're going to
00:01:24
be doing a lot of these tones with these
00:01:26
couple of colors here which is a
00:01:29
a chocolate brown and a flat earth brown
00:01:33
and then my own mix of my pink undertone
00:01:36
that i use for all my skin tones and
00:01:39
maybe just a tad bit of white so
00:01:41
there we go
00:01:43
so for time's sake i've pretty much got
00:01:45
all of the parts
00:01:47
painted black and sealed so i can
00:01:49
actually handle them as far as the torso
00:01:52
and the legs and boots
00:01:55
and then the hands
00:01:56
uh the gun the sword
00:02:00
the glasses pretty much all the stuff is
00:02:02
already done that way we don't have to
00:02:04
waste time on the video to go over the
00:02:05
stuff again
00:02:06
so the one thing to understand is the
00:02:09
dark skin tones work pretty much just
00:02:11
the same way as light skin tones do
00:02:13
you're just working with a darker
00:02:15
pigment you're still going to see the
00:02:17
blood under the skin you're still going
00:02:19
to see the shades the light the
00:02:21
highlights and everything like that as
00:02:23
well and you're going to see the
00:02:25
in-depth contrast
00:02:27
just because it's dark skin tone doesn't
00:02:28
mean everything is saturated in a dark
00:02:30
tone
00:02:31
you're going to have to go out and pick
00:02:33
those
00:02:34
areas where the light comes in
00:02:36
uh where the skin recesses and the light
00:02:39
socket or the eye sockets and the ears
00:02:42
and the under the chin and everything
00:02:44
like that so that's gonna determine on
00:02:46
what your light source is or whether
00:02:48
you're just going to do it kind of a
00:02:50
realistic approach
00:02:51
today's approach is we're going to take
00:02:54
and do it in a hyper realistic form so
00:02:56
there won't be a lot of dark shading or
00:02:59
deep shading into the recesses under the
00:03:02
chin under the eyes and everything like
00:03:03
that
00:03:04
i usually like to let the natural light
00:03:06
kind of make up its own mind of where
00:03:09
it's going to go in and
00:03:11
poke out those highlights and see where
00:03:13
the
00:03:14
the low lights or the undercuts or
00:03:16
whatever like that are going to be
00:03:18
all right so one thing i do like to do
00:03:20
on darker skin tones is i do like to
00:03:22
work light to dark
00:03:24
and i will pretty much just go in and
00:03:27
lay down a general base coat
00:03:47
okay so now that i've got the base coats
00:03:49
what i'm going to do is
00:03:51
this undertone pink that i've got right
00:03:53
here that i mixed up i'm actually going
00:03:56
to go ahead and just load some of that
00:03:57
in my brush
00:03:59
and add a little bit of water and i'm
00:04:01
not gonna clean my brush out because i
00:04:03
want some of that brown in there
00:04:07
probably need a little bit more in there
00:04:10
so what i'm gonna do is
00:04:12
it's gonna give me a really good
00:04:16
undertone here probably add just a tad
00:04:18
more
00:04:21
and mixing it really good and then i'm
00:04:23
gonna go under
00:04:25
the undertones as far as the lips
00:04:29
the eyes
00:04:30
and around the
00:04:31
the ears and stuff like that and i'm
00:04:34
gonna go in and add this
00:04:37
to that
00:05:01
all right so what i'm going to do on the
00:05:03
arms is i'm going to
00:05:05
highlight some of the areas where the
00:05:07
blood may flow closer to the skin and
00:05:10
then we'll go in and we'll do some
00:05:12
shading right before we do the tattoo
00:05:46
so now i'm going to use this german
00:05:48
black brown from the vallejos panzer
00:05:51
series for the
00:05:53
shading on the face and on the arms
00:05:56
i don't use this color very often
00:05:58
the only time i really use it is during
00:06:00
dark skin tones
00:06:02
it is a good combination of a little bit
00:06:04
of black and a lot of dark brown
00:06:07
and it really accentuates the undercuts
00:06:10
and everything on skin tones
00:06:28
[Music]
00:07:22
all right so at this stage you can go in
00:07:25
and add more highlights if you want
00:07:28
you can lighten up the skin if you want
00:07:30
with a lighter shade of brown
00:07:32
but what i am going to do now is i'm
00:07:34
going to
00:07:35
i'm going to do the eyes and do the
00:07:37
tattoo on the back of the head and do
00:07:39
the hairline
00:07:40
and then i'm going to move to the arms
00:07:43
as you can see this is well shaded and
00:07:45
this is what i really want to accomplish
00:07:48
here a little bit of a
00:07:50
darker skin tone
00:07:51
a darker darker skin tone with a little
00:07:53
bit of highlights in it like we got
00:07:56
and then i'm going to look and decide if
00:07:58
i want to add any more highlights a
00:08:01
little bit of lighter brown maybe in the
00:08:02
cheekbones
00:08:04
on the forehead or on the bridge of the
00:08:06
nose um but at this point i'm kind of
00:08:09
liking how it looks
00:08:10
this is a wesley snipes type sculpt
00:08:13
so we want to get it close to wesley's
00:08:16
skin tone as much as possible so as a
00:08:19
tip when you do the eyes try to use like
00:08:21
an off-white
00:08:23
don't use a solid white or a cold white
00:08:26
because it's going to be way too bright
00:08:27
for you and don't use an ivory because
00:08:30
it's going to have a yellow tint to it
00:08:32
an off-white is a very good
00:08:35
color to use for the
00:08:36
for the eyes and the
00:08:39
maybe the teeth as well
00:08:40
okay so first things first on the eyes
00:08:42
i'm going to put my little line
00:08:46
for the top of the
00:08:50
eyelash
00:08:59
now we move on to the whites of the eyes
00:09:17
now that i've got the whites of the eyes
00:09:18
in
00:09:20
it's easy on a quarter scale piece like
00:09:22
this to cover up the black line so it's
00:09:25
much easier to go back in and put it in
00:09:27
so i probably should have put it in uh
00:09:29
after i did the white and so uh we'll go
00:09:32
in and we'll touch that up and then
00:09:34
right now so after doing that we will
00:09:36
add the pupil
00:09:37
and add the iris
00:09:39
and we'll finish up the rest of the face
00:09:42
like the mustache and we'll do a little
00:09:44
bit more to the lips
00:09:47
[Music]
00:09:52
[Music]
00:10:05
[Music]
00:10:19
all right so the eyes are done i'm gonna
00:10:22
go in and add the eyebrows start on the
00:10:25
hairline and start on the tattoo
00:10:28
but uh the sculpt is good however it
00:10:31
just does not look like wesley snipes it
00:10:33
kind of looks more like eddie murphy
00:10:35
at this point so maybe once we get the
00:10:38
glasses and the tattoo and everything
00:10:40
it's still a nice sculpt
00:10:42
but it shows us you know how we can do
00:10:45
uh dark skin tones and that's all that's
00:10:47
important right now at this point
00:10:49
and um but i think it's turning out
00:10:51
pretty good we're hitting the highlights
00:10:53
we're doing the undercuts the way they
00:10:54
need to be done
00:10:56
that's the most important part that i
00:10:58
wanted to show you
00:10:59
and as far as the arms are concerned
00:11:02
how to shade the arms for a dark skin
00:11:05
tone
00:11:06
you can lighten it up if you want to
00:11:08
you can
00:11:09
do whatever you want it all works the
00:11:12
same way as a normal white skin tone
00:11:16
you're just using a darker pigment so
00:11:18
it's however you want to do it
00:11:20
the method is still the same
00:11:23
[Music]
00:11:32
[Music]
00:11:41
all right so the tattoo is done that is
00:11:44
all freehand there is nothing masking
00:11:47
off right there guys
00:11:48
um so if you ever do a model like this
00:11:51
be prepared to be patient
00:11:53
and take your time
00:12:06
[Music]
00:12:22
so with a couple of quick little tweaks
00:12:24
and getting all the
00:12:27
mustache and tattoo and hair all done
00:12:29
and getting it sealed we're gonna go
00:12:31
ahead and put this thing together and
00:12:33
see how it looks one thing i did do on
00:12:35
the torso is i did add another gun
00:12:38
it only had one in the original design
00:12:40
but i remember blade had two guns
00:12:43
and uh yeah this is more of a comic book
00:12:45
style a little bit different than what
00:12:47
i'm used to it is a nice sculpt but it
00:12:49
doesn't look like wesley snipes once
00:12:51
it's painted
00:12:53
but it is still a nice sculpt
00:12:55
i did print it big for the sake of doing
00:12:57
so
00:12:58
and i just wanted to print a really nice
00:13:02
size
00:13:03
blade statue and that's what i did
00:13:19
[Music]
00:13:27
so
00:13:32
[Music]
00:14:12
so i didn't print a base for this or
00:14:14
anything
00:14:15
because i had the intention of doing a
00:14:18
wooden base a little bit different than
00:14:20
what the figure came with and so
00:14:23
i'll do that later on uh the main thing
00:14:25
this video is to check and see how i did
00:14:28
the skin tones on it show you a quick
00:14:30
and easy way that way you can do dark
00:14:32
skin tones as well
00:14:34
and hey while we're at it i'd be foolish
00:14:35
not to tell you about my patreon that i

to do dark skin tones there's many
00:15:21
different variations that you can do
00:15:23
there really is no right or wrong way
00:15:25
this is just a simple method that i use
00:15:27
every now and then just want to pass it
00:15:29
