    accountability, restraint, and respect

    for constitutional rights. Historically,

    democracies that blur the line between

    military power and civilian life risk

    sliding toward authoritarianism

    as the armed forces become instruments
    00:01:14
    of political control rather than
    00:01:16
    national defense. Deploying troops
    00:01:19
    against citizens erodess public trust,

    creates fear instead of safety, and

    threatens the constitutional balance

    that prevents the government from using

    overwhelming military force to silence

    dissent. In his 52page opinion, Brier

    beyond its legal authority when it sent

    guard troops to assist federal

    immigration raids and maintain order

    Hgse had publicly signaled interest in

    extending similar deployments to cities

    such as Oakland, San Francisco, Chicago,

    Baltimore, and New York. Plans Brier

    warned suggested the creation of a

    national police force with the president

    as its chief. Although the judge stopped
    00:02:09
    short of immediately ordering the
    00:02:10
    withdrawal of the roughly 300 remaining
    00:02:13
    soldiers in Los Angeles, he barred them
    00:02:15
    from engaging in a broad range of law
    00:02:17
    enforcement actions, including making
    00:02:19
    arrests, conducting searches, setting up
    00:02:22
    perimeters, or gathering evidence. His
    00:02:24
    order, limited to California, will take
    00:02:27
    effect September 12th unless overturned
    00:02:30
    on appeal. The White House quickly
    00:02:32
    condemned the ruling. Anna Kelly

    dismissed Brier as a rogue judge, trying
    00:02:37
    to usurp the authority of the
    00:02:39
    commanderin-chief, insisting that Trump
    00:02:41
    had acted within his powers to protect
    00:02:43
    American cities from violence and
    00:02:46
    destruction, neither of which were
    00:02:48
    happening in Los Angeles. When pressed
    00:02:51
    on this issue at a news conference
    00:02:53
    today, Donald Trump deflected from the
    00:02:55
    question, twisting the answer to suit
    00:02:58
    his own propaganda. Well, it was it was
    00:03:01
    a radical left judge. But very
    00:03:03
    importantly, what did you not tell me in
    00:03:04
    that question or statement that you made
    00:03:06
    pretty much of a statement, I think?

    stemmed from a lawsuit filed by

    California back in June which argued

    that Trump's actions violated the Posy

    Commitatus Act of 1878.

    That law designed to limit the domestic
    00:03:39
    use of the military prohibits federal
    00:03:42
    troops from enforcing civilian law
    00:03:44
    unless expressly authorized by Congress.

    California Governor Gavin Nuome hailed
    00:03:49
    the judgment as a win for state
    00:03:51
    sovereignty and constitutional limits on
    00:03:54
    presidential power. No president is a
    00:03:57
    king, not even Trump, Newsome said. And
    00:04:00
    no president can trample a state's power
    00:04:03
    to protect its people. On social media,
    00:04:06
    he punctuated the point more sharply in
    00:04:08
    all caps. Donald Trump loses again. The

    courts agree his militarization of our

    streets is illegal. Trump's decision to

    deploy military forces onto US city

    streets are already having significant

    repercussions for tourism, an industry

    that relies heavily on perceptions of

    safety and freedom. Images of armored

    vehicles, soldiers in combat gear, and

    clashes between troops and protesters
    00:04:35
    project instability to the outside
    00:04:37
    world, making destinations like Los
    00:04:39
    Angeles, Chicago, or Washington DC
    00:04:42
    appear less welcoming to visitors.

    International travelers in particular
    00:04:47
    may associate the militarization of
    00:04:48
    public spaces with countries in
    00:04:51
    political crisis rather than with the
    00:04:54
    United States as a democratic and open
    00:04:56
    society. Lawyers for the Trump regime

    countered that the posy commentators act

    did not apply in this case since the

    guard was deployed to protect federal

    personnel and facilities rather than to

    enforce laws directly. They argued that

    activities. He cited evidence that guard

    roadblocks, conducted crowd control, and

    created what amounted to a show of force

    in Los Angeles. Testimony from Major

    General Scott Sherman, who initially

    oversaw the troops, revealed that he had

    Soldiers, Sherman said, were even given

    training materials listing prohibited

    marked the first time in decades that a

    president had federalized a state's

    national guard without the request of

    the governor. Trump's decision followed

    mild skirmishes between demonstrators

    and federal immigration agents in Los

    Angeles. Several dozen protesters had

    blocked a freeway and torched vehicles,

    prompting aggressive law enforcement

    responses that included rubber bullets
    00:06:30
    and tear gas. But Trump's response went

    beyond the call of duty, ordering around

    4,000 National Guard members and 700

    Marines to the city. Troops were

    visible, patrolling areas such as

    Whilst past presidents have invoked

    emergency powers to deploy guard forces,

    such as during the 1992 Rodney King

    riots, the key difference is those

    actions were taken at the request of
    00:07:04
    state leaders. Retired Army Lieutenant
    00:07:06
    Colonel Daniel Moira, now a law
    00:07:08
    professor, described Trump's move as the
    00:07:10
    most aggressive use of the military
    00:07:12
    domestically when the facts to support
    00:07:14
    them are extremely weak. He suggested
    00:07:17
    the ruling could become a roadmap for
    00:07:19
    other states resisting similar federal
    00:07:21
    deployments. The legal battle in
    00:07:24
    California comes as Trump has
    00:07:25
    increasingly leaned on military force to
    00:07:28
    advance his domestic agenda. He recently
    00:07:30
    sent Guard troops to Washington DC after
    00:07:33
    declaring a crime emergency in the
    00:07:35
    capital. In that case, Trump had direct
    00:07:38
    legal authority because the DC Guard
    00:07:40
    reports to the president. He also
    00:07:42
    expanded militarized operations along
    00:07:45
    the US Mexico border. Trump has hinted
    00:07:48
    that Chicago could be next. "We're going
    00:07:50
    in," he said to reporters, though he
    00:07:53
    declined to specify when. Democratic
    00:07:55
    leaders in Illinois, including Governor
    00:07:57
    JB Pritsker and Chicago Mayor Brandon

    Johnson, vowed to sue if he follows

    through. They stressed that violent

    crime has declined in the city and

    argued federal militarization would only

    undermine public confidence. The

    regime's escalating reliance on the

    military for domestic enforcement has

    alarmed civil liberties advocates and

    Despite those warnings, Trump has shown

    little sign of backing down. The White

    House maintains that the president has

    both the obligation and the authority to

    ensure public safety, especially in

    democratic cities he claims have failed

    to maintain order, especially in
    00:08:54
    democratic sanctuary cities that he

    falsely claims have failed to maintain

    order. This isn't a political thing,

    Trump insisted. I have an obligation for

    now. Briar's ruling applies only to
    00:09:08
    California, but it sets a legal
    00:09:09
    precedent that could shape battles in
    00:09:11
    other states. By explicitly barring
    00:09:14
    guard members from law enforcement
    00:09:16
    tasks, such as searches, seizures, and
    00:09:18
    interrogations, the judge reaffirmed

    limits on presidential power. California

    officials have already moved to block

    any extension of the Los Angeles
